That's one of the things that's really cool about SS to me. It's a great place for people to get that exposure to English that don't normally have anyone in their daily lives! And since apparently English has taken over like half the world now...

also i think you and i both remember a time when feast table threads were ridiiiiiculously longer we just gave up doing any backreading and if we werent VM'd or announced here that we were quoted on page 298 we'd never see it

Just have fun and enjoy the RP. It is what you make it! When I was new I would stalk a lot and just playing with others and seeing different styles of RP's brought me to my comfort level and my enjoyment level in how I RP. Anytime you want to play just let me know I'm always up for it!

You are very sweet :tackle: and trust me, I know how you feel. As Ali (bazinga) said earlier - have fun...i think the best advice I can give is to not overwhelm yourself but that's something we all sort of need to work on? the start of term is always way too fun!

I think you're doing fabulously! You've got a good mix of dialogue and action, and lots of detail. We've all been new here, and I think it's just something you feel more comfortable doing over time, getting to know your character, getting to know how other people RP etc. Also what the others have said Your charrie is fantastic, and your back-story is awesome!

I'm going to second what everyone said, re: doing great and include Ginevra in my reply here becaaaaaaaause, the Ravenclaw nerd that I am (ignore the puff banner ), I'm gonna draw your attention to this forum (and also while I'm at it, suggest that you guys check in your user cp under edit options, scroll down, and make sure your 'Default Thread Age Cut Off' is set to 'show all threads' because there's a ton of OLD stuff that's totally worth reading (whether you are stalking old RP things in the archives, or info threads or anything, there is fifteen years of history on SS!) but the information forum (which we're in a sub forum of right now) has a ton of discussion and advice threads about RPing, that can help out, and help with feeling a bit more comfortable and brave enough to experiment and find what works to you and also like you're not alone in your apprehensiveness (which you aren't! we all feel new/lacking sometimes, and yet everyone brings some special flavour to the RP as a whole!). Also stalking the RP archives is a great way to get a handle on things AND see how much SS has evolved RP wise (those early terms? oh boy the ic/ooc blur is crazy).

Other than direct you guys to explore some of that stuff, my advice is simple:

1) have fun. It comes across in your RPing if you are enjoying yourself, and automatically makes for better RPing!

2) treat the RP like one big interactive story: we are all in this together. That means reacting to other stuff going on around your charrie, and allowing for others to do the same. Way more fun if we aren't all RPing in a vacuum!

3) Be 'brave' and invade RPs! See a charrie doing something? Guess what, its open season! You're ALLOWED to join in, always. If it was private then it wouldn't be in the main threads! The only 'exception' to this is to make sure its a place your charrie makes sense being. For instance if they suddenly showed up in the staff room that probably will get them in trouble.

4) along those same lines: join in on things! If you see some weird plot thing happening (usually a 'red name account', go react and interact with your charrie! participate in lessons if you have the time (RL comes first)

5) Be a 'stalker'. I throw the stalker word around a lot and so do a lot of SSers and it can weird newbies out at times because we don't mean it in a creepy way we mean take interest in other charries. Read other people's RPs. Basically we're so lucky here that its like we're having stories written especially for us, which is SO amazing.

6) I'm going back to number 1, because HAVE FUN. That's the most important thing of all. If you aren't having fun or you're getting stressed out, then its going to show. And after all SS is here for members, that's the entire point of this wonderful place, you're the REASON for this site, all the plotting and stories and structure of the site wide RPs and everything else is for your benefit. Its YOUR place, so enjoy it!

'too many clicks' was literally mine and Touz's mantra for so long Anything that required more than a couple was just like ehhh nah VMs are so much better for that reason.

I'm still traumatized from my first lesson in the best possible way, given it was right when pottermore happened and we had 1 thousand new members that sorting (not that they all posted but yikes) And there was one lesson I literally did a post that took 6 hours, lost it, did a shorter version that took 4 hours, LOST THAT and then cried for a few days, and then ended up with a post that took a further 7 hours lmao.
