Welcome to Dufftown! This small village, located in northeastern Scotland, offers activities to suit a wide range of interests. Enjoy a relaxing day perusing the shops along Balvenie and Fife Streets where you'll find a hair salon, ice cream parlour, and several shops selling various Muggle trinkets and clothes. Hungry? Sample some of the local fare in one of the pubs and restaurants.
Maybe you'd prefer sports to shopping. If that's the case, there's a football ground just around the corner from the shops. Grab some friends, and get a game going!
If history is more your thing, explore Balvenie Castle, built in the 13th century and once inhabited by Mary, Queen of Scots, or the ruins of Auchindoun Castle. Check out the clock tower, a building with a colourful history that once housed the town jail, or have a bite to eat at The Seven Stills, Dufftown's longest-running Scottish inn.
Have fun exploring the town and interacting with the locals, but remember to be on your best behaviour and keep your wands hidden!
OOC: This thread is, more or less, a weekend getaway on the final Saturday in May right before final exams come in full swing. Students going on this trip would have gotten permission slips signed and, so the Statute isn't broken, would have arrived to this burgh not far from Hogwarts by bus. This thread is being used for plot purposes; feel free to join in -- the more the merrier!

Archie was minding his own business, going on his routine stroll through the streets on his way to the park where he read the paper, when all of a sudden a hoard of youngsters made their appearance. The old man nearly lost his balance out of the shock of one of them (Beau) shouting extremely loud about wanting ice cream and needing the loo. He caught himself against one of the building walls and gripped his cane tighter before he regained his footing.

He gave a stiff nod at the girl's (Zita) response to the boy and opened his mouth to agree ... and then another boy (Matthew) made a comment that really riled up his old bones. Naturally, the older boy got a little jab with his cane.
"Not on my street," he grumbled. He then pointed a long finger at one of the buildings nearby. "Public loo's over there, kid."
Closing his muggle pocketbook with a snap, Jace looked out of the bus' window when it came to halt, and momentarily took in what he saw from where he was sat. It was indeed a beautiful weekend, and he was quite surprised that he wasn't freaking out with the fact that it was their last weekend before the exams. Just a couple of days after that, he'd be packing up his dormitory for good to leave Hogwarts...and Scotland in general.
Not wanting to get caught up in the excessive excitement from the younger crowd, he stalled for just a bit to let them all pass before he got up and exited the muggle ride himself. He fished out a pair of muggle in-ear headphones, wore them and played a nice upbeat music from his portable music player. Having spent most of his summer days with muggles back in Japan, blending in with the crowd was not a problem at all. As long as the wand inside his shirt's sleeve was kept out of sight, he looked like a normal 18-year-old muggle tourist; he didn't even look like a local with his unique features.
As a general rule, the first thing to do was to look for an information center. He asked a young woman where to obtain a map, and he was directed towards the large clock tower right smack in the center of the city proper. Jace emerged from the establishment carrying a fold-away map and read all about the interesting sites and activities that are worth checking out. Balvenie and Auchindoun Castle caught his attention, and it raised a tiny problem: transportation. There was no way, he'd walk that far if they only have a day. He'd have to squeeze in a decent meal in between tours.
Pulling his earphones off of his ears, Jace approached an old man who was definitely not a member of the school staff and cleared his throat to get his attention. "Good day, sir. How are you?" he said with a slight bow of his head, an inbred gesture, and custom from a native of Japan. "I'm new to Dufftown, and I was wondering if you could tell me where the train station is? Which line should I take to get to Balvenie Castle?" he said showing the old man his newly acquired map from the Tourist Center. "Do you also know a place where I can rent a bicycle here?" he said, as he looked around them.

Well, perhaps it was a bit of fresh air being here. Not that Vivian was tired of the usual Hogsmeade--she loved the village and its shops, for the record--but despite knowing the ways of the muggles, the blond still quite found herself getting that strange vibe from the place. Having grown much more accustomed to magic, of course, it was going to take a few moments to get used to all of this. The really boring ride on the bus was draining on its own, so she was also half excited to get her feet going to explore the town.
And what better way to explore than to share the fun with friends?
Catching up to her dorm mates, Vivian looped her arm around Sky's. "Hi, guys," the prefect greeted with a grin. Upon hearing the mention of cheeseburgers and fries, she sighed longingly. "I bet they have nice food here." Food sounded great, yes? Nobody could ever go wrong with food. It was food, after all.
"Anyway, mind if I join you two?" She didn't really need to ask, but oh well.

Rylee had never been one to turn down the chance to do something different. Especially not a weekend trip. It was a chance to get out of confines of the castle and it's grounds. Most of the bus ride had been spent with her staring out the window but now that they had arrived and she was able to stretch her legs the fun could start.
There was food to eat. Things to be bought. And places to explore.
Only problem was... where was she supposed to begin? Rylee glanced around waiting for something to catch her eye while also looking for a friend or two that might want to stick with her for a little while. Where were all her fellow firsties?

"Are you mad?" She glared at Matt, was he born in the forest? For a seventh year he was quite the idiot, but before she could respond there was a muggle right near them and heard everything and Derf was trying to clear the air, "He was only joking." Giving glares to Matt to respond saying that she moved away from the group, no way did she want to be involved with this lot now.
That's when she spotted him and smiled, moving closer she slipped her arm through Max's "think I can hang with you for a little bit, they seem to want to get in trouble with the locals." She nodded her head towards the older man, but then she heard Derf suggest the little Claw hang with Max and yes she gave him looks, seriously did Derf want to cramp her style?
Her thoughts distracted as she heard gossip coming from some women (Muggles) and she smiled and moved a little closer, still with her arm linked to Max. She didn't know them, but gossip was gossip. Her eyes then moved towards a woman (Moira Mckinley) saying Beau could use her loo, good now the old man could walk away and not have to worry about the corner being tarnished. "Depends on what kinds you have." Her samples she meant of course.

There was a lot going on, and Max soon felt himself getting a little overwhelmed by it all. Big groups of people and social interactions weren't his cup of tea and he was really looking forward to sneaking away and exploring the ruins.
But before he knew it, Derf was offering him up to little Ravenclaw kid and he had a Zita on his arm.
"Uhh yeah, no problem," he nodded and pocketed his map when she asked if she could hang with him. Although he wasn't really sure if he had much choice in the matter seeing as his arm had been claimed already.
He perked up at the prospect of free ice cream though and looked in the direction of the lady who was doing the offering. YES PLEASE. "I hope she has mint-chocolate chip."

Ugh I know, about time too," she laughed. Now let's just hope she didn't trip or something. Ah yes, the fact that Sky was already talking about food proved that she was the PERFECT traveling companion! She didn't want to tie herself down with a meal just yet, because she would definitely be looking through the menu. Oh how she hoped for a sampler... "Oh cool, my own personal tour guide!" Kye laughed again, now imagining the castle selling burgers out front. As they passed some of the other group, she waved at Professor Vance and hey! "Hey Vivi!" Kye greeted happily. Man, when was the last time the three of them hung out?! Of course, this was Kye's fault, as she had chosen to be a hermit the last few years. And obviously, no, Vivian didn't need any kind of invitation. They were now walking arm in arm through Dufftown, and Kye couldn't help but giggle a little at what a sight they might be. Especially that elderly muggle that had jabbed Matt with his cane!

If there was something that unsettled Beau to the core...it was DEFINITELY this whole eyebrow thing that Zita had going on with makeup. It was her thing, yes, but sTILL. Couldn't someone just leave their face to look like their face...? He bet she was a lot prettierbetter lookingless ewless scary looking more natural underneath it all. Still, Beau SMIIIIIIIIIIIILED his biggest smile as she pointed to where she thought toilets were and was ABOUT to take a run in that direction when Matt spoke.

He SPED off in a run into the ice cream shop, past Derf, Jessa and Zoryn who he was going to be follow to get ice cream no matter whaT. "MEEEEEEEEE FIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRST. RILEY C'MONNNNNNNNN. ICE CREAM TIME!" And he was not taking no for an answer.
His quick little legs got him to the bathroom and back in record time (literally because he had counted and it had ONLy been four seconds... or was that just how long it took him to get bored of counting..? WHATEVS.
"HEY LADY HEY LADY HEY LADY HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. ICE. CREAM. ICE. CREAM. ICE. CREAM." The free kind first. "I'd like to try a free sample of ALL your flavours. I have to see which MOOD I am in today. HMMMMMMM." Starting with CHOCOLATEY GOODNEZZZZZZZZZ. None of that boring STRAWBERRY YACKKKKKKKKK.
Matt casually shook his head at Zita's asking if he were mad. He also shrugged at the Gryffindor kid's response to his suggestion. "You could always vanish it." The Gryffindor added to both Zita and the kid. It wasn't like he had to leave his pee there forever, you know.
But the seventh year was being JABBED by something that didn't feel like a wand, so he turned around to see WHO was doing it and WHY. "Oi!!" He said to... an old man he had never seen in his entire life. The 'owner' of the street, apparently. "Whoa, you must be really rich, sir, having been able to purchase the entire street!" Matt was impressed!
Not.
And wut! That kid was telling the old man to poke him again. "You'll ruin your sceptre if you do, mr king of the street." He told the old man, sending him a cheeky and sarcastic grin.
If this lot wanted to be boring and point the Ravenclaw kid in the direction of an actual loo, so be it. Boring people will be boring, but GUESS WHAT, Matt didn't have to deal with them. Ciao fo' now.
Matt did want to go check out the clock tower or that Castle he had heard about, but the lady calling out for everyone to try some ice cream was tempting him big time. "I'll have one!" He exclaimed as he approached the shop. He had even brought some Muggle money and everything aaaand he knew how it worked, having a Muggle for a father and everything, so he'd be fine.

Seriously? Just because he was in Ravenclaw that did not mean that he knew every person in the school. So when Derf suggested for him to hang out with a guy named Maxton, the boy literally raised an eyebrow. But before he could ask who Maxton was he saw a girl (Zita) giving Derf a glance which he interpreted as 'shut up'. He might only be twelve but he wasn't stupid. "I'm not third wheeling!" he said as he shook his head. Eww no he did not want to be in between a couple. They were a couple right? Why else would they have locked arms? SURELY not for fun...
The ice cream woman was a good distraction though and without a word the boy left the group to get a free sample. "Do you have Canary Cream flavor?" he asked, the woman (Moira) forgetting for a second that he was in the Muggle world.
While he waited for an answer which was hopefully a yes, Dorian looked around at the streets, taking in the view. And then his eyes landed on Rylee. "'RYLEE! OVER HERE, FREE ICE CREAM SAMPLES!" he shouted in case she did not hear him over the noise of Beau being really loud. Every one liked free stuff.

It was a perfect almost-end to the term. A trip for the kiddos to a Muggle town meant that Kaysha would definitely be heading there with them. It would be an extra enjoyable trip since one of her best friends had agreed to chaperone with her.
She was one of the last persons to disembark from the bus but when she did, she could feel the excitement rise in her. Blue eyes surveyed the students. They were well dressed, muggle- wise. She was pleased that most of them had managed to complete their casual outfits and some were even wearing them.
Seeing Laurel and Kalen in conversation, Kay chose to address the kiddos. "Just a reminder, everyone. Be on your best behaviour.'' They got a wink from her. Surely they would all know what that meant- to be Muggles for the day! "Have fun!''

Ronan was silently listening to all the conversations going on around him.....and, yep, they had pretty much confirmed it. He was distancing himself from as many of his schoolmates as he could. First was Matt's suggestion that Beau go PEE IN A CORNER, which was uncouth whether you were a wizard or a muggle and his follow up suggestion that he could simply vanish it. "Not in front of the muggles!" he hissed in response to that. And of course, the typical volume of Beau, which was enough to drive him out of the common room most days (the kid seemed sweet enough, but good lord). And he was pretty sure he'd just heard that little Ravenclaw boy ask about canary cream flavored ice-cream. That was his queue to say a "Byyye!" to the group and power walk-almost jog a decent distance away. He also almost told Professor Stewart that that group needed to be kept an eye on but didn't....for reasons.
Ah, peace. Ronan pulled out his map, trying to decide what to do first. He wasn't really into football, so the football grounds were out. Wow, there wasn't really much to do here. No cinemas or arcades and the only museum was dedicated to whiskey. Sigh. What did the local kids do for fun?

She didn't need to be reminded to be on her best behaviour. Blue eyes trailed lazily over to Professor Stewart at the warning, giving very little in the form of a reaction while her schoolmates chattered about around her.
She gave very little in the way of a reaction to Beau too, even after an elderly gentleman decided to insert himself in business he had no business being in. Beau wouldn't go randomly peeing places, Derf was right about that much. No comment towards Matt for the suggestion. He was a Gryffindor and while she tried to avoid stereotypes, that lot did have a few tendencies that, even if they didn't necessarily act on, they still thought about in the first place.
Dorian's question caught her attention and being one of her baby claws, she was about to invite him along when Derf did. The Prefect simply nodded, indicating her agreement but in the next minute the boy was heading off after the speeding Beau.
Ice-cream? Free samples? Strawberry? So maybe she was looking forward to that too. "We can get Picketta a whole ton of doll clothes--could get some for my dolls too." Even if they wouldn't be able to appreciate it. Having never been one to shove, Jessa waited her turn for a free sample of the ice-cream, agreeing almost immediately with Zoryn. This was pretty good. "I'll have a cone too." She replied at the Gryffindor Captain's question--half directed at the shopkeeper (Moira) herself. "Err....once you've got them sorted." Jessa added as an afterthought, taking in the eager Second Years.
The 16 year old leaned against the counter, watching as a few others poured into the shop. "I wonder what they're sundaes are like." She and Derf used to split those. The thought of doing so again brought on a pleasant feeling of nostalgia. "Bet we could get a huge one instead of the cones." They still had time to change their mind, yeah?
"Is it bad I'm kinda hoping the castles will be haunted?" Even muggles had ghosts....right? It'd certainly give them something more to do.

Skylar giggled when Kye said about time. But before she could say anything else, someone was on her other side and smiled when she looked over and saw who it was too short for Apollo. "Vivi! I was hoping you hadn't disappeared to snog Chase before seeing some castles!" And for a brief moment she felt .... unstoppable. Like the queens of the school and to think they were only sixth years. Almost made her wish she was wearing more than just these converses. Also, how had her dormmates neglected to inform her of the skirts trend? Not that she minded her jeans as they did look flattering on her and she wore skirts all the time back at Hogwarts.
She gazed ahead at the Balvenie castle noticing a gathering of some young people. Huh, another field trip? Were they supposed to interact with them as part of their own field trip? She tugged a little on Kye's arm. "Psst, they're kinda cute, don't you think?" Because obviously Kye was the only single one, so she had to live vicariously though her. "So tour guide, huh? Guess we'll start over there and maybe we can get some of those kids to join us for lunch."
But first, was there a lady handing out ice cream samples? That was when Skylar realized her mistake. She'd been to Muggle London dozens of times and knew the protocol for currency and yet, all she had in her pocket was .... galleons and sickles and a couple knuts. Though she guessed she could just argue that they were pesos or so American coins and she hadn't the chance to exchange them over from her Spring Break Vacation. Yes, perfect. Oh there was Professor Stewart; she thought she'd seen her on the bus. Though to be honest, Skylar thought for sure she'd be one of the first off the bus .... even though she'd probably been here loads of times before.
Nice food here? What kind of comment was that? "So Vivi. Have you never eaten a cheeseburger in a pub before then? It's amazing...." Surely the bestie knew she had. "But maybe we should get some ice cream first and then head off to that Balvenie Castle up there for a closer look?" A closer look at the castle or the muggle boys, was the same difference really, right? She looked at the muggle lady. "Three samples, please." Prolonging having to use her "vacation" story would work best, she decided.

Hands shoved in his pockets, Boyd idly kicked a ball along at his feet. Occasionally he flicked it up in the air, doing a few keepy-uppies for show, or dribbling it between bollards on the pedestrianised area. Really though, he was bored.
Bored. Bored. Bored.
There was nothing interesting to do in Dufftown. He was meant to be going to the cinema in the next town over, but then the best mate had only gone and got himself grounded and stuck at home. So here he was. Hanging out on his own.
But then voices...so many voices. Around his age, too. A smile came onto his face as he too headed over towards the free samples. "Hey Ms McKinley!" he greeted the owner with a lopsided grin. He rummaged in his pocket for a couple of quid for a cone as he joined in the line, ball still at his feet. "You mean custard cream?" he questioned the boy in front of him (Dorian). "Nah, I don't think they they do." Weird choice that was, a biscuit flavoured ice cream. Although if anyone could make it taste good, Ms McKinley could.
And the growing crowd gave him an idea of how to while away the afternoon. "Hey...anyone fancy a kickabout on the field after?"

Dressing like a Muggle wasn’t really that hard. At least, Stasya was pretty sure she’d managed it reasonably well, looking around as she’d gotten off the bus. Part of her had thought about not going on the trip. Lots of research could have gotten done without needing to be secretive, when the castle was more empty than usual, especially since Professor Kennedy was one of the chaperones. Although so far, she hadn’t had to worry about too many questions, or more accurately, Ollie hadn’t had to since he’d been the one to borrow the books from the library. She’d still brought one of the transfiguration books with her to read on the bus ride though. But the other part of staying at the castle was nervousness over everything that had been going on. Still going on, actually. Considering she hadn’t forgotten the experience of finding herself mysteriously in a random corridor in the middle of the night last term without knowing why. The tall fourteen-year-old was almost completely positive that whatever was happening was connected to last term’s stuff. Possibly even the stuff that had happened way back when she was a first year, two terms ago.
It probably didn’t help that she considered Derf one of her best friends, either. Considering his theories. Either way, getting to explore a new place was exciting, even if she hoped that nothing happened back at the castle while they were gone. She’d seriously thought about smuggling both Dobby and Albus with her here in her backpack but had decided against it at the last minute. Instead, she was going to try and find presents for the squirrel and puffskein while she was here. That and maybe something for Demyan too.
Ice cream was definitely tempting, but there were all sorts of other possibilities too.

Moira smiled at one girl (Zoryn) as she took one of the samples off her tray and said it was yummy. It was nice to know her hard work was appreciated! "Thank you, dear," she replied. "Of course. What flavor would you like?"
Then another girl (Zita) appeared. Sounded like this one had discriminating tastes. Well, Moira was determined to find something she liked! "This here's chocolate-covered strawberry flavored," she said, gesturing toward the tray in her hands, "but we also have vanilla, birthday cake, rocky road, peach, white chocolate raspberry, mocha, salted caramel, peanut butter fudge..." Of course, those weren't the only flavors she sold, but it would take her all day to list them all!
A boy (Maxton) joined them, and she couldn't help but overhear him say something about mint chocolate chip. She smiled. "You're in luck, son," she said. "I just so happen to have a fresh batch of mint chocolate chip."
Oh, the little boy (Beau) was back from the loo, and - Blimey, he was an excitable one! Moira laughed a little to herself; he reminded her a little of her son when he was that age. "No need to shout, son. there's plenty to go around," she said. Then he was asking for all the flavors, and she laughed again. "You can have some samples -" But not all of them. Poor thing would get a tummyache! "What flavor would you like to try first?"
Another boy (Matt) appeared. Moira handed him a sample, but before she could ask if he'd like a cone, a younger boy (Dorian) was asking her about - What in the world was canary cream? Surely it wasn't something made with real canaries, was it? She assumed it was a sweet named for its canary yellow color. "Can't say that I do. Sorry, son," she said. "Any other flavor you'd like?"
The shop was getting pretty crowded now, and Moira waved as she spotted a familiar face (Boyd). "Nice to see you, Boyd!" she greeted, returning his grin. "What can I get for you today?"
Then there was an older girl (Jessa) offering to wait until the little ones were served. Moira beamed but shook her head. "Nonsense, dear. You were here first," she said. Then she overheard the mention of sundaes. "Our sundaes are three scoops of the ice cream flavor of your choice topped with fudge, caramel, strawberry, or butterscotch sauce, whipped cream, and whichever toppings you like." She gestured toward the topping bar full of various types of fruit, nuts, candies, and cookie crumbles.
Another girl (Skylar) was next and asked for three samples. Moira smiled as she handed her three small cups of ice cream. "There you are, dear. Anything else you'd like?"

The opportunity to spend the day in another town was pretty exciting. The six years she'd been at Hogwarts she'd only ever gotten to see Hogsmeade. So this was new. It was also a muggle town, so it was going to be so different than Hogsmeade. She was excited. It would be good to do some exploring. The bus ride had been interesting. Being on a bus with all her peers had been a new experience. She knew they had all spent time on the train, but at least they could walk on that. A bus was totally different. But it was survivable. And now they were here. It looked pretty cool. Quiet, but cool. Although it wasn't going to be quiet for much longer. Not with all them around.
The blonde looked down at the map that was in her hand, deciding what she wanted to do. She spotted Skylar, but was keeping her distance. They hadn't spoken in a while, and she honestly didn't know what to do with that situation right now. So she would stay away still. Hmm. Maybe she'd go do some solo exploring. That would be fun.

Having a short attention span such as hers made field trips excitably overwhelming. All the noise, people and different things to do. It clear to see that Rylee was having a terribly hard time in deciding on where to go first. All she could think about was checking out every place and doing everything that was allowed. In other words she wanted a nonstop weekend of fun and excitement.
Somehow she managed to hear Professor Stewart's warning over all the shouting going on around her and give her a bright smile and a thumbs up. Next thing she knew her name was being shouted along with something about ice cream. Loudly.
The still very small ginger, sadly she hadn't grown much if at all this term, spun on her heel to find the source of the shouts. Or well more like the source of who was shouting for her. Spotting Dorian and Beau and main others crowding around someone (Moira) she hurried over to join them all. There was NO WAY she would pass up ICE CREAM!
"May I have a sample of strawberry please?" she asked smiling brightly up at the women when it was her turn. Blue eyes turned to Dorian and Beau. "Where are you two heading first?" After they had their ice cream of course. She needed ideas on where to go... or at the very least who to tag along with if they didn't mind.

The bus had certainly been an interesting experience. Abra couldn't ever remember being on one before in his life, not even the magical Knight Bus or its Egyptian equivalent. Frankly, he hadn't enjoyed it. Abra was used to doing all sorts of tricks on his broom that would make anyone's stomach churn (like his mother, when she caught sight of him doing said tricks) without issue, but the bus journey had made him feel absolutely wretched and ready to upchuck.
He'd disappeared for just a few minutes, to stand off down an alleyway where nobody could see him, bent double and clutching his stomach while taking some steadying breaths. It had sort of worked; he'd not thrown up, at least, but while the nausea had started to subside, he was still feeling a little... delicate.
Finally he rejoined the main street where everyone else was, still pale but a little more prepared to make the most of the trip - even if the unfamiliarity of the place and the potential for disaster had his anxiety jets firing on all cylinders. No, Abra. This is a fun day out, so lets enjoy it otherwise it'll just be misery until the exams are over, literally actually.
Inner-monologue Abra was correct. It would be no good to waste this field trip, which was technically a free pass from the staff for a day where they weren't expected to pretend to study for their final exams.
Hands shoved into his pockets, Abra looked around for something that might hold his attention, swerving automatically away from the crowds and the perhaps-a-little-less-than-happy-looking muggles. And the ice cream. He still didn't trust himself not to bring it right back up again. Among a large crowd of Hogwarts kids, standing in line for ice cream, there just so happened to be a boy (Boyd) whom he didn't recognise. Muggle then, especially obvious once he heard his accent, though really it was unfamiliar face that sort of gave the game away actually.
Kickabout? Abra wasn't entirely sure what that was - though could hazard a well-educated guess - but he decided that he certainly wouldn't mind tagging along. Thing was, he didn't quite have the confidence to actually speak up, and so ended up sort of furtively looking between the boy with the ball and the nearby crowd of magical brethren, as if hoping someone could speak up so that he could quietly latch onto the group without having to speak up for himself.

Diandra was reading the brochure and decided where she should visit first. Hmmmm.... Maybe she should see the Balvenie Castle first, it looked cool and it seemed quiet since not many students were interested with the castle sightseeing. Or, should she head to the Huntly Falconry Center first? The Hufflepuff knew a fellow housemate who might've been interested with this and probably he would be excited if she asked him to go there.... except that he already headed some company.
And speak of the devil, that particular housemate whom she had thought about was just calling her. Yeah, the guy that she meant was no other than Derfael Ashburry-Hawthorne.
Smiling, Diandra decided to walk approaching him. "I would love to, if you guys don't mind." She said and smiled to him, also to Zoryn and Jessa. Were they going to get some ice cream? That sounded like a good idea though, but perhaps she could get something warmer first because getting a cold food sometimes makes her sensitive digestive system gone upset. But the Hufflepuff gitl would just tag along with the others.
She couldn't help but gasped as a boy suggested a younger student to urinate at an open space. Alamak, he wasn't serious, was he? Back in Singapore, spitting was counted as a crime and the person who did that could get fined... let alone urinating in public. Haha. But thankfully a nice muggle woman offered her loo... She's almost living in the Britain for a year and still not used to some British-only slang like a loo.
And since Zoryn had dragged Derf and the Ravenclaw prefect ahead from the crowd... Should she follow her too? Perhaps not, that girl didn't seem to like her at all. "Uhh.... I think I should walk around with others." Diandra said to the Hufflepuff prefect. She would be fine, walking around by herself would not be that bad.
Then she heard an older student (Jace) mentioned about renting a bicycle. Oooohhhh, that sounded fun! She hadn't ridden a bike since forever. Diandra decided to approach him. "Uh.... hi, Did you just mention about renting a bike? Can I... join you?"

Scarlett had never been on a bus before - despite growing up on the edge of the Alley and having to interact with muggles on a daily basis. How exciting! She was also soooo excited to just have some time away from her NEWT studies - all the information felt like it was just jumbled around in her brain, with no rhyme or reason to it whatsoever. It was going to be nice to take a day to just relax and not worry about it. She wasn't sure she'd be able to entirely push back her anxiety, though...ah well. She'd give it a shot!
She elected to just window shop, for the time being. Particularly when it came to the muggle clothing stores. She LOVED muggle clothes. The brighter and more colorful they were, the better!

Kye would say that they looked like a mix between Britney Spears in Crossroads and The Plastics in Mean Girls... If she had known what those were. When Sky mentioned the boys, Kye giggled in a bashful way. Yes yes, she was quite aware that she was APPARENTLY the ONLY person NOT on the dating scene. So she was starting to get that boy crazy fever. Merlin help her. She looked at the nearest group of boys curiously, wondering what Muggle girls talked about if not Quidditch and the normal things from the wizard world. For the sake of being able to go on a lunch date with them though, she was willing to find out! And if she had known what Sky was thinking about the currency issue, she would have told her and Vivi that they could try to flirt their way to a free meal if it came to that. Haha!...? But really though that was a thing.
At the mention of free samples, Kye was completely on board with getting in line before it got absurdly long. When they had reached the front, Kye decided not to assume that each of the samples was for them. Maybe Sky wanted all three? After all, there were apparently tons of flavors! Kye had her eye on a couple in particular. She smiled at the shopkeeper and spoke up. "Hi! Uhm, can I get a sample of the peanut butter fudge, and one of the birthday cake please?". Obviously she knew how peanut butter fudge tasted, but it was her favorite! And she was genuinely curious about the birthday cake flavor... At least the Muggle version. She didn't think it would be a mix of the actual taste of cake and ice cream mixing in her mouth. That was probably a little too Willy Wonka for Dufftown. Ah, she hoped she had enough time to eat these before they got to their next destination and to hold them over until they found lunch dates a lunch spot.
Waiting his turn, Boyd rolled the ball around under his foot, counting out the change he'd found in his pocket on his palm. He had enough for a double scoop, and he mentally debated which flavours to get as the kids in front of him got served. The fresh batch of mint chocolate chip he heard mentioned was tempting, but he knew his Mam had some of that in the freezer at home.
"You too, Ms McKinley," Boyd replied with a smile as he reached the counter, finally settling on his choice of flavours. "I reckon I'll have a cone with two scoops, ta. One chocolate and the other salted caramel...oh, and a chocolate flake." Couldn't forget the chocolate flake on top.
It was as he waited to pay that he noticed the kid about his age (Abra) eyeing him. Boyd nudged the ball over gently in the boy's direction. Did he want to play? Football was pretty universal, didn't matter if they didn't speak the same language. He'd played with some Spanish kids last summer. At least, he thought they were Spanish...languages weren't his strong point. Regardless, all you needed for a game of footie was a ball and a couple of hoodies to mark a goal, and the rest just sort of...worked itself out.
For the life of her, she could not figure out what all the fuss was. It was a bus, people. She’d probably been on a bus thousands of times. Plus, it wasn’t like they were going anywhere special. Not like Hogsmeade. It was a muggle town. She had spent her life, up until last fall, living in more exciting muggle towns than the one they were visiting. Either way, she was glad to be away from the castle for just a bit.
Not feeling very social, Emmalyn decided to head to a quiet part of the street and have a seat. She figured her time away would be best spent people watching and staying out of trouble. Plus, she didn’t want to be associated with the kid yelling about needing to use the bathroom. She roamed around and spotted a nice little bench on the East side of Balvenie street where she had plain view of the shops, but was away from the busyness of the shoppers.
With the warm sun on her face and the murmuring of shoppers across the street, she closed her eyes and leaned back against the bench. She knew she would be completely happy spending the entirety of the trip sitting in the very spot she sat.

Okay, so fourth year was hard and Faith was finding it increasingly difficult to pass with just listening to lessons. Apparently, their professors didn't have enough time to cover all the material and she'd have to do reading outside of class. But reading was awful and words on the page did the whole swirly thing and she really really didn't like it.
So here she was. Making a conscious effort not to study. Because that was her plan. To not study. It was a great plan, though Chloe might not agree.
But she was here anyway, and there was a spooky-looking castle, which meant that there would be ghost stories. Spotting a blonde in the distance who looked like Sylvie, at least from this angle, she made a run for her and pounced onto her in a tackle. "SYLVIE, HI!" she grinned, until she realised that this is not Sylvie. But it would be rude to take the greeting back so she'd just... stay there. And laugh awkwardly. "Sorry, you're not Sylvie."
