 As you continue along the second-floor corridor, you will eventually stumble upon a bust of a medieval wizard who is quietly muttering to himself in Latin. But it is the antechamber near this statue that draw in a lot of students because over the years this spot has been designated as a popular hang-out area. More often than not, those who need a break from schoolwork come here to play an array of indoor wizarding games.
Scattered around this small room are chess boards, decks of Exploding Snap cards, areas for playing Gobstones, and other wizarding games ranging from Snitch Snatcher to Wizard Cracker Pop-It to Wizard Skittles. If none of these games interest you, there is a small table where Runok Ko and Rune Riddle books can be found. Otherwise, you can go check out the suit of armour that stands off to the side -- maybe you will figure out that it is guarding a passage to a secret storeroom -- or, if you feel there's more of the castle for you to explore, take the stairway that leads up to the third floor.

In an attempt to distract himself from any and all anxieties he might have felt over the Quidditch team and whether or not he would make it, Cameron had wandered off and had somehow ended up in the arcade area. He hadn‘t really been here the past few years even though he had in fact known of its existence. Still, it was usually packed and he wasn‘t a huge fan of large groups of people if he had the choice.
Today however it appeared to be quiet so he got to have a proper look around. It WAS in fact quite fascinating to see all the different kinds of games on display. Maybe he‘d ask Liam to come here with him sometime if they had a free period. That could be fun. |

When he wasn't spending his free time tucked up in the dormitory with his favourite comic book, Maxton liked spending time in the arcade area. It was normally a good place to find someone to practice Gobstones with. It was pretty quiet at the moment though and Maxton had found himself a table in the corner where he could polish his Gobstone collection instead.
The newly turned fourth year leant back in his chair to admire his work proudly but noticed a finger smudge he'd missed. He couldn't have that! He set to work once again, rubbing at the smudge vigorously with a handkerchief and then....
"Argghhhh!!!!"
Gobstone juice right in the face!!

Cameron hadn‘t even noticed that he wasn‘t in fact alone in the arcade area until he heard a noise. A disapproving noise, clearly. Coming from a corner of the room. Once he‘d figured out WHICH corner he turned towards it, quickly recognizing the other person in here.
„Maxton.“ What a coincidence. Slowly walking over to his dorm-mate he gave him a curious look. „Are you alright?“ The noise he‘d made and the....oh. “What‘s that on your face?“ It looked...gross to say the least. Maxton knew he had something on his face, didn‘t he? It wasn‘t one of those moments where you point out a stain on their face to someone and then they break down in tears because they‘d been walking around like that all day.

Before he had a chance to run away or at least clean himself up, someone was saying his name. How embarrassing!! Stupid gobstones! Maxton's cheeks flushed pink as he looked up and saw his dorm-mate. At least Cameron seemed a little concerned at not like he was about to tease him.
"Ugh, stupid..." Maxton grumbled, forgetting he had a handkerchief right there and quickly trying to wipe away the slime with his sleeve. There was no way he was going to be able to wipe away the smell however.
"Stupid gobstones... It must've, I don't know... Malfunctioned or something." This set had treated him so well, why had it turned on him now!?
"Maybe it was ticklish or something," he finished lamely, looking up at Cameron and attempting a smile.

The smell, yeah. That was.......not good.
The closer he got the more intense it got. Consequently, by the time he came to a stop in front of Maxton, Cameron‘s nose was wrinkled. Not that that helped much with the smell. “Oh.“ He could tell now. The smell must have been even worse for Maxton himself. Cam took a small step backwards.
No offense, Maxton. It‘s not you, it‘s that gross stuff on your face.
„Maybe.“ Mhm. Perhaps that was why. He was more concerned with getting rid of the smell though. “Maybe do it with your wand.“ Just a suggestion, the handkerchief seemed to be quite ineffective. At least with regard to the smell. AND he hadn‘t quite managed to wipe off everything too. | |

Oh Merlin, this was just gross. Cameron's face pretty much said it all and Maxton felt his blush spread until even the tips of his ears were a bright red. He wiped some more at his face before finally admitting defeat and leaning back in his chair.
It smelled like a troll and puked all over him or something.
"Huh? My wand?" Right! Obviously that made the world of sense! Maxton could think of a few charms that might potentially work but he wasn't sure if he was confident enough to actually turn his wand on himself. "Uhhhh, do you think you could do it for me?"

Yes, his wand. He was a wizard, wasn‘t he?
It shouldn‘t have come as a huge surprise to him then when Maxton asked if he could help him with that. Seeing as he hadn‘t even considered using his wand, Cameron doubted he‘d be confident enough to use it on his face without as much as a mirror. Or the right spell in mind, presumably.
No offense, just stating the obvious.
“Alright.“ Cameron stepped closer to him while drawing his wand. “Hold still.“ He stopped once he was standing right in front of him and lifted one hand to hold onto Maxton‘s chin to make sure he didn‘t move his head. Then he pointed his wand at the GROSS AND SMELLY stain on the other boy‘s face. “Tergeo.“ There, that should do it for now. Until his next shower or face wash anyway. | |

When Cameron took a step closer and steadied his chin, Maxton squeezed his eyes shut as tight as he could. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. It'd be easier just to go scrub at his face with some soap. What if something went wrong and Cameron accidentally sprouted permanent giant hairy warts all over his face instead?
Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh...
He flinched ever so slightly when Cameron spoke the incantation and then peeked cautiously through one eye. He lifted one hand and had a feel. His face still felt normal. It definitely still felt okay. And sniff. The stench had gone. Well, almost anyway.
"Mate, you're a genius," a grin slowly crept across Maxton's lips. "I still look like me, right?" He just had to check.

Cam noticed the fact that Maxton had closed his eyes but didn‘t take it the wrong way. There weren‘t too many people he would trust to use a spell on his face either. So it was an understandable reaction.
Not to worry, though, Maxton.
Dropping his hand from the other boy‘s chin, he put his wand away and took a step back again. „You look fine, yeah.“ And he SMELLED fine too now. That was the most important thing anyway. | |

"Cool," his grin widened when Cam confirmed that he looked fine. "Thanks for that, I owe you one." He looked fine and he smelled fine. Crisis diverted!
"Fancy a game of gobstones now? Heh." He was KIDDING obviously. There was no way he was going near those blasted things again for a while. They were not supposed to malfunction like that! Maybe it was time to get a new set.

Cam just nodded in reply to his first words. He did owe him one. He'd keep that in mind. If push came to shove in their dorm it was good to know that they'd have Maxton on their side. Who knew with Blaze after all. And Slate was strange too. No offense.
Maxton was alright though.
Funny. Cameron gave him a small grin to acknowledge the joke but then turned on the spot to look around the room again. "What else do they have in here?" It was as much a question directed at the other boy as it was a simple musing out loud. Maybe they could find something to play together. | |

Maxton started putting his gobstones back into their little drawstring bag. He was sure to handle them a little more cautiously then normal just in case they tried squirting at him again. When they were back in there safe and sound he drew a little sigh of relief. Fiasco over. Thank Merlin Cameron paid attention in Charms.
He watched as the other boy spun around to scope out the room and shrugged casually.
"I mostly just come here to play gobstones." And sometimes the occasional game of chess but he wasn't that great at it. "I saw some kids playing skittles here the other day, that looked kinda fun. A bit like muggle bowling, have you ever played that?"

Well, neither of them were in the mood to play Gobstones NOW.
After a careful look around, Cameron met Maxton's gaze again as the other boy started to suggest a game of Skittles. Hm. "I have not played that, no. Have you?" He knew what the board looked like but hadn't actually played it himself. Nor had he ever been bowling. Could be fun though, he supposed. Plus, he was always ready to try something new. | |

Harriet loved exploring the castle. She was a sixth year now, but it was so exciting and she was still finding new things even though this was her sixth year of being here. Today though, the girl was only heading up to the second floor. She wanted to have a bit of a relax, let her hair down so to speak. So she was heading to the Arcade Area, so that she could play a couple of wizarding games. She'd been doing a bit of studying this morning, and so wanted to relax a little before she headed to class for the afternoon. The blonde hummed to herself as she wandered down the corridor, hoping that it wouldn't be too busy. She liked talking, but it would be no fun to play games if there was too many people there.
Luckily it was pretty empty, and so the girl headed towards the rune riddle table. She wasn't the best at runes, but she had had fun playing these riddles before. And so, she sat down and began to play.

Juniper was in the mood to have some fun, outside of quidditch and reading, her other favorite things to do was gobstones, and Chess where else would she go but to the arcade area on the second floor. Although it was far from the confronts of her common room, she made the trek down to the lower floors just for a nice place to play.
As she wandered down the second floor corridor to the arcade area, she had noticed the bust of the wizard she had past many many times during her time at Hogwarts, but was it mumbling something in latin? She knew latin. She stopped right in front of it. ”Salve!” She tilted her head. Was it possible that the bust would actually speak to her? She was just going to stand here to wait and see.
