Default Stone Gargoyle

A large stone gargoyle awaits as you approach closer toward the entrance to the office of Headmistress Hawthorne. It, even though a mere statue, appears to be closely watching you with every step you take. Or maybe that is just your imagination. Nonetheless, as you examine the intricate etches on the gargoyle, it is clear that it will not be moving any time soon ... unless the password is on the tip of your tongue, of course. Once the password has been said, the gargoyle will leap aside to reveal a spiral stone staircase. Step onto the escalator-like staircase, and you will come face-to-face with a polished oak door adorned with a brass griffin knocker that may already be opened if your arrival is expected.

Should it happen to be that you are not one of the fortunate few who know the password, you have three options: decide to speak with the headmistress another time, try sweet-talking the gargoyle into letting you pass through (good luck with that), or patiently wait for the woman to make an appearance. On either side of the entrance are two cushioned chairs for you two sit in, accompanied with end tables that hold various books and magazines for you to flip through to pass the time, if you decide to wait. Maybe you'll get some brownie points if the headmistress catches you reading up on defensive magic, magical hieroglyphs and logograms, and/or famous historical landmarks.

OOC: If you wish to enter the office, please post here first and wait for the gargoyle to respond. Remember that only Hogwarts Staff will know the password to the office. Students should not be entering without being accompanied by Headmistress Hawthorne or a professor, unless he/she is lucky enough to have been given the password ahead of time.

Default Regina/Zoe! <3

Dora was more than a little eager to get started with her tutoring with the Headlady... so much so that the EXACT third day of school she found herself at the stone gargoyles. Having owled her about the Arabic lessons, she was even more stoked to get these things started.

Also, she wanted to talk to her about her experiences over the summer... both with the British Ministry, but also the ICW, and Japanese Ministry. It had been enlightening, exciting, and downright confusing when it was all over! Seeing as the woman had provided her with advice last term following the IMPS mess, she had grown to trust her. Enough to show up and ask the gargoyle to tell Regina that she was in the waiting area, anyway.

Perching in one of the chairs the seventh year took out a piece of parchment and began to jot some ideas down... and possibly some doodles in the margins. She had no idea how long it would take the busy woman to get to her or if she was even in her office at all. Heh.

Here she was in all her glory, the Headmistress' most favoritest student in all of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: Zoryn Amari Spinnet.

She had been meaning to meet with the Headmistress for quite some time, but there was never any time, which by the way, is why she decided to come so early in the year!! See, Zoryn should've honestly been a Ravenclaw she was oh so intelligent thinking ahead and such. Oh how lucky was Headmistress Hawthorne to have a pupil as bright as Zoryn Spinnet enrolled at her school.

Anyways, there was just one problem.

Getting up to the office... 'Cause it looked like it was guarded by a v unhappy gargoyle (no offense). Well seeing as there were really only three clear options here, Zoryn opted for the second. "Hello Mr. Gargoyle Sir, you are looking absolutely ravishing. Is that a new coat of pain you're wearing?" Was it working? Was the flattery working?

Zoryn hoped so.

"Now, if you'll just excuseeee me! I've got to have a chat with the Headmistress. I'm a VIP so you can just let me up."

Of course, with it being the third day of school, Regina hadn't made it customary for her to stow herself away in her office. The paper work was a very small pile and no one was disappearing or dying, so there really was no need for her to be there. She was making her rounds, from classroom to classroom, to briefly check in and see how everyone's first week was going.

Her heels clicked as she made her way down the corridor, past the suits of armour and toward the stone gargoyle that guarded the entrance to her office. From a distance the headmistress took note of the red on the robes of the figure that was sitting in one of her seats. The hair was a dead giveaway.

"Good evening, Miss Umbridge. I hope you haven't been here waiting on me too long," she said to the seventh year. There was the temptation to glance down at the girl's parchment to see just how long she had been there (as demonstrated by notes and doodles), but decided that wasn't important.

"I wasn't expecting a visit from you so soon," she added as the gargoyle, hearing the woman's voice, was stepping aside and exposing the staircase up to the office. "After you."

Today was another one of those days when Regina wasn't staying cooped up inside of her office. No, today was primarily spent up in the Ancient Rooms Study, doing some last minute preparation for the week's lessons. In fact, it was that very room she was now coming from. Fortunately the narrow staircase connecting the fifth floor corridor to where her gargoyle was on the second floor made the trek quick.

Her steps down the corridor were quiet, having opted out on wearing heels for a change. As she grew closer toward the gargoyle and the unexpected visitor that was standing in front of it, she was able to overhear what the girl was saying. It resulted in her moving forward silently, unable to stop herself from her eyes.

Zoryn Spinnet was a very special Gryffindor indeed.

"I don't think flattery is going to get you very far with the gargoyle any time soon, Miss Spinnet," the woman said lightheartedly. "And I don't think it cares much about whether or not someone considers themselves a VIP. It just wants a simple password." Well, maybe simple wasn't the right word for it.

Regina shot the girl a smile. She wanted to see her? The headmistress had mixed feelings about that. "Anyway, now that I am here, to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?" she asked as she made a gesture for the third year to climb the stairs.

Y'know, what was the point of sweet talking the statue if it wasn't even gonna listen. Zoryn gave it a deep FROWN. "Um. Boi." She knocked on it's torso. IS ANYONE EVEN IN HERE??? This was dumb. Zoryn was much more confident in her ability to woo portraits. This gargoyle, however, was a dud. She hadn't given up though because this was a matter of utmost importance and utter urgency. Which is probably why she was #blest by the wizard gods with the Headmistress' presence. Oh. Hey. Fancy seeing her here, yeah?

The young Gryffindor turned around abruptly at the reply to her beautifully thought out 'let me past' speech. "Huh," it wasn't until she realized that the voice and face belonged to the Headmistress when the initial surprise set in. Still, her confidence didn't falter. "Well that's no fun. Is the password the same as the one for the Gryffindor Common Room, 'cause to be honest ma'am, I don't think I can remember two of them." It was a shame really. Zoryn hardly remembered the one password she needed for her own common room, so if they could just make every password the same... It would surely make her own life a heck of a lot easier.

"Well I've actually got LOADS to talk to you about. I've been writing everything down for two whole years," she explained, stepping forward and climbing up the stairs after her Headmistress indicated that she should. "I figured I'd just save it all up and give 'em to you at once so that I could use my time real efficiently. Y'know, I'm an incredibly busy person." Not that the Headmistress would know anything about that.... Zoryn didn't think so anyways. What could possibly be so hard about running an entire school, its staff, extracurriculars, and an entire class all at the same time? Nothing, probably.

Must be nice to be Headmistress.

Zoryn was still thinking about taking over the position like Professor Hirsch suggested. It was a good idea tbh. But Zoryn kinda wanted MORE stuff to do, y'know? 'Cause this was nothing!

TIME TO TALK TO REGINA HAWTHORNE ABOUT THIS. WELLLLLL!

Paul cleared his throat as he stepped up to the stone gargoyle. He knew the password. It was quite the privilege, or at least Paul thought so, and so he puffed up slightly as he whispered it to the stone, patting the lower part of one of the wings.

It slowly began to turn, and Paul waited to step into the staircase to go inside.

The boa was snugly wrapped around his neck. The feathers itched slightly.

The gargoyle, as it always did, watched very carefully whenever someone approached it. Whether student or adult, every human received the same stoic stare. Whether or not it would move was all a matter of the correct password being said.

Of course, Herbology professor knew the magic phrase, so the stone structure had no qualms stepping aside for him. Even though it was considering barring passage for the boa that was being around the old man's neck. Nevertheless, the gargoyle did let him through. The wing patting was much appreciated.

Up the stairs and into the office you go, Paul Myers! When you get to the top, you will see that the door is cracked open ever-so-slightly. The headmistress had not forgotten about the appointment that had been made.

He looked at the stone gargoyle again trying to come up with a way to gain entry. "Uh hey big guy, I know you're here for protecting but some strange things are going on by the bulletin board and uh, Slytherin Prefect sent me to get the headmistress so she could come assess the situation." He hoped that the Gargoyle would quickly turn and let him in, he was starting to get a bit nervous.

The stone gargoyle, as the be expected, did not budge an inch, even with the first year telling it that something strange was going on and that one of the prefects had sent him. It would have been different if it had been one of the professors or even the prefect that had sent the boy. The stone structure trusted them given their status within the school. Besides, it was a gargoyle. It served one purpose: to guard passage to the office and only move once the password was stated.

Nevertheless, after a few minutes, the stone did step to the side, only to reveal the headmistress who was wearing a worried look on her face. The message that the silver fennec fox had to bear was one that brought her anxiety. Regina was already praising Merline that Roderik was already at the scene of ... whatever was going on.

Her eyes met with the first year's the moment she got to the landing, the gargoyle stepping back in its place once it the headmistress had stepped onto the corridor. At first she was a bit confused why he was there, but assumed someone had sent him in spite of there being quicker modes of communication. Regardless, the woman's wand was out, her body stiff but alert.

"Come with me, Mr. Dooley. And stay close," she said, leading the way. It was no mysterious portal, but an ominous animal painted in blood, clearly not a prank, was enough to put her on edge.

Armed with a bit of sticky tape he had acquired from the Muggle Studies classroom and piece of parchment, Derf cautiously approached the stone gargoyle with the hood of his robes UP and trying to look as inconspicuous as possible. Which really meant it was not such at ALL, but a Hufflepuff could dream.

Giving the area another quick glance around, Derf inspected his letter and read over his mature sounding words. He supposed the crossed out bits were sorta unprofessional, but he was in a hurry as it were. So much so that he had neglected to remember the letterhead at the top of the parchment that, well, he defeated the purpose of things. Oops.

There were a lot of things this term that had the 13-year-old concerned...but inability a discouragement of defending themselves, FORCING them to be helpless, had really struck a nerve with him.

Rolling some tape and sticking it to the back of the parchment, Derf approached the gargoyle in full and gave a bit of a jump to stick it to its beak. There. Now there was NO way that his letter could be missed.

Text Cut: text version

Headmistress Hawthorne -

Me, an anonymous person, am writing you because of some happenings as of late.

In yesterday’s Muggle Studies lesson, we students were placed in a situation where we they were discouraged and even PUNISHED for defending ourselves against unfair odds. What was SUPPOSED to be an exercise thingy in understanding muggle sports turned into nothing but discouragement. The professor asked Peeves to help throw water balloons at us students and he did so while being invisible AND she did not ask the Bloody Baron to supervise. Not only did none of us the students gain a deeper understanding of the sport of dodgeball, but Peeves ended up taking over the class and the professor lashed out at students more than the poltergeist. In light of things that have happened at Hogwarts since I was a first year since the portal incident, discouraging students from defending themselves with huge point loss and detention is kinda scary. The professor also sorta went through an emotional roller coaster during the lesson (middle age pausing I hear is a serious thing with adults) and perhaps needs a vacation.

Yours truly,
An Anonymous Concerned Person

With another satisfied nod, the third year BOLTED down the corridor.
