Ravenclaw The Library

Stretching out across a section of the common room sits a unique library of sorts. With floor to ceiling bookshelves, this mini library belongs strictly to Ravenclaw Tower and, as such, are as unique as its inhabitants. Books on your everyday subjects can be found here, with extra copies of textbooks placed in case anyone needs it. However, the library also holds many books on other, more unique subjects: books on lesser-known sports, arts and craft and even music sheets can be found here. After all, knowledge doesn't stop short at school subjects, does it?

What's particularly amazing to note about this library is what's in the bookshelves themselves. Some of these books have been passed down from older Ravenclaw students who don't need them anymore. Their notes and other wise words can still be seen etched into margins and crammed on spare pieces of parchment in the books themselves.

Near the library sits a few comfortable armchairs and sofas, each near their own little lamps for the person who wants to do a spot of midnight reading.

Resident Ghost of Ravenclaw | Intelligent & Evasive

Valentine's Day was often a day that ruffled her feathers with the obvious rise in hormones and chaos, especially amongst the students. There was also the matter of the Baron's mere presence on this day that dampened her spirits. But this year, her Ladyship found herself in far brighter spirits than before. Spirits that had very little to do with the location she was currently in, Sir Nicholas had certainly seen to that.

Her hands, poised, were clasped in front of her waist and she adorned a bright smile on her face as she floated between the shelves of the Ravenclaw Library. If she wasn't in such a good mood, her mind would've been focused on her longing to be able to physically pick up the books that sat on these very shelves. So much knowledge, so much wisdom. She hoped it wasn't going to waste.

Before anything fun could happen for Valentine's Day, Sam had a History of Magic essay to finish. It was due in only a couple of days, and she wanted her brother to give it a once over before submitting it. So, here she was, leant casually against one of the bookshelves and skimming through a book on goblin rebellions to see if it had any useful references.

As she turned the page, movement at the next shelf caught her eye. She looked up, and seeing the Grey Lady, gave a smile and nod of her head in greeting. "Good day, Ma'am." She always felt a little in awe of the ghost's presence, despite it now being in her fifth year. The students she must have and interacted with over the years. Their stories and achievements. It made her feel both proud of her House's heritage, and a small insignificant speck at the same time.

"What brings you to the library?"

Had it not been for the young eaglette uttering words of greeting, the ghost of Ravenclaw Tower would've almost missed her presence. As it were, she turned her head to smile at the young girl before floating in her general direction. "Oh hello, Ms Tyler." Despite having talked to a large array of Ravenclaws over the years, her ladyship hardly forgot a face. She distinctly remembered this very young face asking her about her summer many, many years ago.

"The library has always been a source of joy for me. A lot of wisdom sits on these shelves," she said, placing a ghostly hand inches away from the nearest line of books, "I can't pick up any of them, of course, but sometimes, I like floating between these shelves." Her eyes turned back to Ms Tyler, her lips stretched into a warm smile. "What brings you here, m'dear?"

"That it does," Sam agreed firmly. Although this book didn't appear to have the knowledge she needed, so she shut it carefully and slid it back in place on the shelf. She pulled the next one out and laid it on the table. There weren't many others to check. Maybe she'd have to re-settle in the main library; at least it should be fairly quiet today. Probably wasn't the hottest of date spots.

"Well, feel free to read over my shoulder anytime." If she could be of service to her House Ghost, then she'd certainly like to be. Although, she didn't see that her current subject would be top of the reading list. "History of Magic essay." She nodded at the parchment on the table, covered in scribblings out and re-phrasings. "It's not my forte. I wanted to put in something about the goblin rebellions, but I can't find the references I need." And her brother had taught her she needed evidence to back her claims in answering the essay title, especially if she wanted to get above a P in her OWL.

The book being placed back on the shelf didn't go entirely unnoticed but being the kind of ghostly being that she was, she wasn't one to mention it. Instead, her ladyship glowed internally at the niceties that Ms Tyler was displaying. She'd always been rather fond of this house of her mother's and here was a clear example why. "Thank you, that's very nice of you." A group reading session didn't sound like a terrible idea.

She glanced at the table and particularly at the parchment that was taken over by scribbles and rephrasing. Messy as it were, the sight brought about a wider smile on her face. "Well, you're certainly talking to the right person about this." Being a ghost, she, naturally, knew a lot about certain subjects, with historical ones ranking high in the list. Of course, there were some topics that were too dark and disturbing for her to ponder along but goblin rebellions? Hm. "Which part of the rebellions are you looking to reference?" She might've been talking to the young eaglette but her eyes skimmed over the nearest books, historical ones, in search of the perfect one.

"Of course," Sam replied brightly. "I'm mainly reading stuff for me OWLs at the moment, but if there's anything in particular you'd like to revisit, then I'm open to suggestions." For something Sam had struggled with so long, having come to the castle barely being able to read or spell at all, the Ravenclaw now took a lot of pleasure in reading widely. Usually curled up on one of the armchairs by the fireplace. She'd be interested to hear the Grey Lady's suggestions, she was sure she'd have across plenty of page turners through her interactions with the students.

And honestly, it'd never crossed her mind to ask the house ghost about homework. Maybe she'd assumed it would be too tedious for the ghost, if everyone had pestered her about it it'd be not only very repetitive, but she'd also never have time to herself. There was probably some pride at play too; Sam wanted to show that an illiterate street kid could go on and succeed on her own terms, even if she wasn't sure what her aim after school was yet.

"I'm discussing persecution and prejudice in medieval wizarding Great Britain," she explained. "The main focus is between wizards and muggles, but I wanted to bring in points about other magical beings within the wizarding world, like goblins and werewolves." She already had a paragraph on the latter that she was pretty proud of, discussing why requiring werewolves to sign the 1637 Werewolf Code of Conduct in person was more than a little problematic. The goblin rebellions were harder to narrow down to the most relevant points in her narrative. She frowned in thought. "I was thinking the 1612 conflict, but I probably next to put it in the wider context."
