Default Stone Gargoyle

A large stone gargoyle awaits as you approach closer toward the entrance to the office of Headmistress Hawthorne. It, even though a mere statue, appears to be closely watching you with every step you take. Or maybe that is just your imagination. Nonetheless, as you examine the intricate etches on the gargoyle, it is clear that it will not be moving any time soon ... unless the password is on the tip of your tongue, of course. Once the password has been said, the gargoyle will leap aside to reveal a spiral stone staircase. Step onto the escalator-like staircase, and you will come face-to-face with a polished oak door adorned with a brass griffin knocker that may already be opened if your arrival is expected.

Should it happen to be that you are not one of the fortunate few who know the password, you have three options: decide to speak with the headmistress another time, try sweet-talking the gargoyle into letting you pass through (good luck with that), or patiently wait for the woman to make an appearance. On either side of the entrance are two cushioned chairs for you two sit in, accompanied with end tables that hold various books and magazines for you to flip through to pass the time, if you decide to wait. Maybe you'll get some brownie points if the headmistress catches you reading up on defensive magic, magical hieroglyphs and logograms, and/or famous historical landmarks.

OOC: If you wish to enter the office, please post here first and wait for the gargoyle to respond. Remember that only Hogwarts Staff will know the password to the office. Students should not be entering without being accompanied by Headmistress Hawthorne or a professor, unless he/she is lucky enough to have been given the password ahead of time.

UGH.

Ronnie had NO idea why her mother wanted to speak to her, but somehow she had been summoned to the office. Hopefully she wasn't in trouble for something that she hadn't even DONE, but if that was the case it could be more than handled; Ronnie was definitely not afraid to speak her mind and she wouldn't shy away from her mom. Not like she was her Headmistress anyway; that was Moxley.

With a sigh, she made her way over to the stone gargoyle. "Let me up to speak to my mother." Ronnie wanted to get this over with so that she could get back to doing other things.

She didn't have all day...

The gargoyle watched as the girl approached it, as it did whenever a student felt the need to walk past or try to sweet-talk it to moving aside. However, it was able to register that there was something different about this particular girl making her way down the corridor. Though she was young, there was something familiar about her...

Initially, the first three words that left the girl's mouth made the statue want to break its silence and tell her that was no way to speak to a well-respected guard of one of the most important people of the school. However, it was that final word that was said that made it reconsider. This was one of the few people in the entire wizarding world that didn't need to provide a password to get through.

After a moment of hesitation, the gargoyle leapt to the side, revealing the spiral staircase. Up you go!

OOC: You may now post in the office.

Noelle need something from the Headmistress.

To be honest, the Headmistress intimidated her a little bit. Noelle had never lost points before but last year, the Headmistress had taken them from her. So she didn't know if she was in good favor or bad favor with her. Not to mention her mishap in the portal last term. The only encounters she'd really had with the Headmistress hadn't been good ones.

So needing a signature from her, was frightening. Noelle needed it though. She made her way through the castle and stopped outside the stone gargoyle. She looked at it and took a deep breath before .... she talked to the gargoyle. "Hi, I need to speak with the Headmistress, please." Asking nicely never hurt, right?

The gargoyle remained stoic as ever while the prefect approached it. Needless to say, it remembered this one, but only because the headmistress had taken points from the girl last term practically right in front of it. Gryffindors were rather odd creatures, that much it had observed after all these years of guarding the office behind it.

No matter how nice they were, however, it wasn't going to step aside for them without the password. Sweet-talking the statue never did work out in the end. There were very few people in the world that it would step aside for, without a password being muttered. Unfortunately for Miss Summers, she wasn't one of those people. She would have to wait for the headmistress just like everyone else.

After a few minutes went by, though, the stone gargoyle did leap aside, exposing the spiral staircase that lead to the headmistress's dwelling. However, it wasn't an invitation for the girl to climb up those stairs. The headmistress herself was making her way down.

The watch she was wearing on her wrist chimed loudly at her as she placed a student file back into its proper place. Regina nearly jumped at the sound of the alarm, which was reminding her that she needed to collect a few last-minute necessities for an upcoming lesson before she forgot and it was lost in the sea of things she needed to take care of. With a graceful wave of her hand, the file cabinet locked and she made her way toward the door as a white wisp appeared.

The wisp was a Patronus, though it didn't stop the woman from opening the door as it followed her and spoke. It was expected. Just some last minute communication about the logistics of one of the challenges. After closing the door, she took out her wand and made her reply as she walked down the stairs. A white alligator erupted from her wand and sped off down the stairwell, snuck past the gargoyle, and made its way down the corridor and out of sight.

"Oh," she stated the moment she made it to the bottom of the stairs. Her blue eyes were gazing at the prefect now as she stepped into the corridor so the gargoyle could return to its post. Fleeting thoughts ran through her mind about the sixth year in front of her, but a small smile formed on her lips nonetheless. "Hello, Miss Summers. Can I help you with something?"

Gah. Why did this stone gargoyle have to have a password for students? What if this was an emergency? ..... Which it wasn't but... you know.

Noelle rubbed her arm and moved to the side. She'd have to wait. Was the headmistress even in her office? Noelle needed her form signed so there really wasn't a choice. She went to stand by the wall. She was about to pull a book out of her bag when the stone gargoyle started moving.

Yes!! She was lucky. Noelle moved to speak to the Headmistress as she emerged from the staircase. "Good evening professor. I hopefully wont take up too much of your time. I was wondering if you could sign a slip for me. It is to continue with my animagi training. Professor Marchand has already signed it. " She said pulling the slip from under her arm and presenting it to her.

The moment the form was presented, her eyebrows rose ever so slightly. Was she surprised by the revelation? No, not really. It was only a matter of time, considering she knew that the Gryffindor standing in front of her was one of a select few that had been mucking their way through Animagus training with Camilla. Regina herself once considered the process in her youth briefly, though that's all it was: a consideration. There were more immediate, less time-consuming ways of disguise and concealment that didn't involve making oneself so vulnerable to risk.

Nevertheless, the woman took the form from Noel's hands and read over its contents word for word. If the girl wanted her signature, once she did not give out all willy nilly, then it was necessary to understand the ins and outs of the document. She resisted the urge to roll her eyes when it was mentioned that Gaston had already signed it. Knowing him, he just slapped on that signature of his without asking the important questions.

"Before I sign this, Miss Summers, I have a few questions for you. Just for the sake of protocol," she said, still holding onto the form. She didn't want things backfiring on her, considering the space reserved for her name, if things happened to go horribly wrong. "I trust you already know from Professor Stewart and your own personal research the risk involved in pursuing this not-so-easy endeavor that requires much concentration and has no room for rash thinking." So there was no need to ask about that, though the woman had reason to doubt after witnessing certain events. "But I am curious... What grades did you receive in Transfiguration and Potions on your OWLs? And how exactly do you plan to use this ability should you be successful in achieving it?"

She was sure the girl was at least talented in Transfiguration (otherwise the form wouldn't have been given to her), and there had been whispers of her wanting to be an Auror ... though being an Animagus wasn't a requirement for that field. So, yes, the headmistress was curious.

Oh Merlin. Did Noelle mentioned that she was intimidated by the Headmistress?? Because she was. She saw her brows raise slightly when the form was presented. She knew this wouldn't be an easy sign and go process. It was a good thing though. Thorough and all.

When the Headmistress started asking her questions, she kind of grinned just a tad. Marchand had asked her a few questions as well plus the training she was already doing with Professor Stewart. Questions were bound to happen.

"Of course Headmistress." Noelle said with a nod about the protocol. She watched the Headmistress before offering a smile and then explaining. "I do know that the task is a very daunting one. One that is risky and if not done properly, will have me stuck in a half animal and half human form... that most go into hiding due to the social aspects of." She said easily but with great caution. It was why she wasn't rushing the process. She was a work in progress. "I received an O in Transfiguration and Potions." She'd come a long way in Potions, her other grades not where she wanted them because she focused most of her attention on Transfigurafion, Potions, and DADA.

"I do not know if you know this about me, but I had made a bad mistake when I was younger and was taken, sold, and kept in a dungeon for about 6 months. Aurors like Alexa Cambridge rescued me and other prisoners." She admired that woman. One of her heroes. "I came back pretty much scared of my own shadow. It wasn't until I started training with Hirsch that I grew some confidence. With practice and time, I realized that I wanted to be an auror. But I want to enhance those skills. Being an animagus, I am hoping, will allow me access to places that you cant just walk into. It will give me an enhancement of sorts. I want to make a difference. I want to rescue kids that have been taken." And it may be childish or naïve but.. "I don't want anyone feeling the way I felt. I want to be able to enhance myself in any way possible to achieve that." She said looking at the Headmistress and then chewing her lip.

The woman listened very carefully to the sixth year, latching on to every word she said. So far, she was off to a good start. Had she not received an Outstanding on her Transfiguration and Potions OWLs, then the form would have gone unsigned and she would have had to question how she had gotten it in the first place. But the initial requirement for Animagus training was met. Now the why was what she wanted to know.

A roll of her eyes was rested the moment 'made a bad mistake' left her lips. Thoughts of last term quickly flashed in the woman's mind. Nevertheless, other students made stupid mistakes as well, even the ones that should've known better. Carry on, Miss Summers.

Her story and reason behind wanting to become an Auror, on top of wanting to acquire the ability to transfigure oneself into an animal, was not something that she expected. It was something she wasn't even aware of. Her reasoning for wanting to become an Auror was quite sound. As for the reasoning for wanting to be an Animagus, the woman didn't find that to be crucial to being successful in that line of work. Nevertheless, the want to have such an advantage was justifiable.

When Noelle stopped speaking, a simple head nod was given. Regina's eyes shifted from the girl back to the form. She read it over in full one last time before reaching for something inside her robe pocket. Out came a self-inking quill, which the woman used to sign her John Hancock on the appropriate dotted line.

"I wish you the best of luck in your training, Miss Summers," the headmistress said, returning the quill to her pocket and the form in the Gryffindor's hands.

To be honest, Noelle was expecting the Headmistress to not sign the form. She knew that she'd made a mistake last term while in a grave predicament. It had caused several people to get hurt. Plus, it could have been worse if it weren't for other people helping. But the thing with Noelle was, she knew she wasn't perfect and only knew there was one way to go. Up. When she made mistakes, you had to learn from them and improve. Like... going into Knockturn Alley with her friend.. because they wanted to find the hag because he thought he was related to him... It had ended the worst way possible. One mistake. Almost cost her, her life. It took some time, but Noelle improved from that situation. She started training, taking her studies seriously. With the mistake last term, Noelle had gone to Professor Hirsch and had gotten help and more training. Improvement was key.

She caught the look the Headmistress gave when Noelle said mistake. she almost winced.... almost. She was intimidated by the Headmistress ... it was definitely true... but she looked up to this woman. She was strong, confident, and didn't take no for an answer. Noelle strived to be like her.

Please sign the form... Noelle thought in her head before the Headmistress was signing her form and handing it back to her.

Noelle couldn't help it. Her mouth dropped and she held the paper up in an almost disbelief. The headmistress had signed her form. Blink.

Before she could stop herself, Noelle wrapped her arms around the Headmistress and squeezed her into a quick hug. "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!!" Noelle said in an excited yell. Opps. Sorry Headmistress.

She looked down at all the signatures. She'd done it!! Before the Headmistress could change her mind at Noelle's little outburst though, she waved at the Headmistress with a big beam and started down the corridor in a hurry. "Thank you!!!"

The mouth-dropping didn't go unnoticed by the headmistress. She, quite literally, had to force a smirk from appearing on her lips. Did the Gryffindor prefect think that the form would go unsigned? Had the girl asked last year, she would have been inclined to say no. However, this was under different circumstances. Noelle's response appealing to the woman's sense of logic, Regina saw no reason to not sign the form. She had met the OWL requirement and had a valid reason for wanting to continue her training.

Eyes widened when the girl latched herself onto her and squeezed. It was ... unnecessary. As was the yelling. She opened her mouth to sternly tell the prefect to let her go before she took that form back, but she remained silent and still. Deep down, she actually appreciated the hug.

A small smile did manage to grow on her face when the Gryffindor beamed up at her and skedaddled down the corridor. Regina didn't bother telling the girl to slow down or risk getting points taken from her again in the same spot she had last term. She let the girl rush off, and the woman progressed to the narrow stairwell that would take her up to the fifth floor.

You're welcome, Miss Summers.
