The small tower office that now belongs to Divination Professor Laurel Vance has had quite a number of inhabitants over the course of Hogwarts history like the famous seer Sybill Trelawney that taught the noble art during the trio's years at the school. The reddish floor is clean and covered here and there by a few mats in different shapes, colours and sizes. The parchments filled with interesting scrying methods to test at a later time, personal correspondence letters, various notes, drawings and Laurel's big load of books ranging from Divination textbooks to fantasy literature and boxes full of divination instruments and items have all neatly been put away in the filing units and bookcases that line the back wall.
The desk in the heart of the office of sturdy dark wood is kept neat but cluttered. On it you can usually find a deck of tarot cards, a red peacock quill, an earth globe and a novel of some sort. The window sill is home to a mimbulus mimbletonia and a pot of daisies. In a corner of the office a small magically self-serving tea table is set up that also can serve visitors lemonade who prefer that to tea along with a tray of freshly baked cookies or candy. Professor Vance is not the only inhabitant of the office since her Bengal cat Max also resides here if he isn't off hunting for mice somewhere in the castle. Do not lift or pet him if he doesn't seem like he wants to cuddle.

OCC: I will not have an arrival thread so please don't clog up the thread with 'waiting to enter' posts. Have your character knock on the door and then wait for Professor Vance to allow you to enter or to come back later. Yes, she had an appointment to visit with Professor Vance, but it was definitely not by choice. It wasn't anything against the Divination Professor, except the fact that she wasn't particularly fond of the subject, even if she had excelled in it last year. It was just that the nature of the meeting, well, Skylar was ninety-nine percent sure she knew why her new head of house had requested to meet with her. And she was also about ninety percent sure that she didn't really want to talk about it.
Her new head of house had said nothing in the moment, so why now? As an afterthought? It just seemed to be retroactive, something that she was also sure Mister McLeod never did. But then again, other than flying lessons, she didn't have much contact with him. So perhaps this could be a moment to shine with her new head of house? She was already on her list as an excellent student and even though she goofed up, maybe the meeting didn't have to be a bad thing. Maybe, just maybe, the fourth year snakette could turn it around into a positive.
Finally, she knocked on the door, and waited, wondering just how she was going to turn the light around.

Usually you didn't tell someone you had a crush on them in such a public area as a feast. It raised a number of questions.
Laurel was debating whether or not to put on a kettle of tea when she heard a knock on her office door. A quick glance to her wrist watch told her that Skylar had arrived with a few minutes to spare for their meeting. Giving her office a last look and pulling her blond strands back behind her ear's Laurel unlocked and opened her door to greet Skylar with a small but kind smile pursing her lips as she ushered. "Hello Skylar, come in, come in! I expect that you've already guessed what I wish to discuss with you?"

Nodding at the blond woman when she ushered her in, she did so, blue-gray eyes glancing around the room to take in the decor. One thing that struck her as surprising was the amount of books and the plants on the windowsill. And there was a cat too, how interesting. Oh, and Professor Vance had asked her a question.
Finally meeting the Professor's gaze (again), she gave a half of smile. "I assume what happened at the feast." She said simply, shrugging. Talking to her peers about it was one thing, but talking to her house head was something else.

Zarina had gotten a summons from her head of house. This slytherin knew she wasn't going to be talking about Divination. That was her least favorite subject. Zae had a theory though, I mean probably the Bloody Baron and her were close. Maybe he ratted her out. That could be a possibility. In that case Baron you were in for a rude awakening. As she climbed up ALL the stairs to the divination tower and was out of breath, she saw at the top of the staircase she wasn't alone. There was a fellow slytherin here. Zae was surprised but she still nodded to her. She met her before right? Racking her brains back oh right it was Skylar.
Zae plopped down in her seat and was still trying to catch her breath. She even stripped off her robes. Man she was sweating, couldn't the head of house have a better meeting place like oh I don't know the great hall? Easy walk to that place. Zae knocked on the door and waited for the Head of House to greet her in.

"Do you like tea?" she asked of the young girl before she readied a teapot. Tea she had found many times helped when you needed to discuss serious matters.
When Skylar finally toward her to met her gaze Laurel nodded affirming. "Yes, I'd like to speak to you about your actions at the feast." Motioning for Skylar to take one of the comfy chairs in her little seating group she continued. "Skylar, what possessed you to come up on the staff dais before Headmistress Hawthorne had delivered her annual speech to announce that you think that Healer Reed smells good to the whole assembled faculty?"

Repining her Slytherin Head of house pin to the front of her robes in front of the mirror in her bathroom Laurel gave her make-up and hair a last look before she headed out of her office to tidy up a little before her meeting with Zarina. His bloodiness had seeked her out in her office the morning after the feast before she even had had breakfast and had relayed his version of the young girl's rude behaviour at the snake table during the opening feast. The Baron was a complicated spectre that demanded and got respect, but Zarina had apparently been sassy, impolite and rude to him something the Baron didn't tolerate and neither did she.
Hearing the knock on the door Laurel went to answer her door, unlocking it she peered out in confusion as took in the sight of Zarina sitting in one of her waiting chairs without any robes on and looking overly flustered and hot Laurel greeted a slight worry in her tone. "Hello Zarina, are you all right? Has someone or something chased you up here from the dungeons?"

Skylar had felt Professor Vance's gaze on her while she'd been looking around and almost felt guilty for being nosy, yet it wasn't as if she was really being nosy. She was merely trying to get a feel for the kind of person her head of house was; while she'd been in her Divination Professor for a few years now (since her first year? second year?), she didn't really know the woman. She smiled graciously though when the blond offered her tea. "Tea is good, thank you," she said as she found her way to the comfy seat the Professor had motioned for her to take.
Ah, she figured. And one thing that Skylar noticed was that the Professor didn't beat around the bush in terms of getting to the topic. "Honestly, I don't know." Okay, that was only somewhat truthful, and she figured she might as well get to the point, or this meeting could go on forever. "I mean, I didn't come up to the staff dais looking to profess anything. I noticed Mr McLeod wasn't there and I was coming up to see if I could figure out who his replacement was. In hindsight, I probably should have just waited, since I didn't find out till the Headmistress gave her speech anyway." Because of her distraction with the Healer, but seriously, why were the male faculty members such eye candy?
So how about that tea? And biscuits?

"Oh yeah I am alright.." Zae replied to the Professor's concern. "I am just out of shape is all. I need to go back on the Quidditch field and do some running.." Did anyone chase her out of the Dungeons? She snorted with laughter and replied, "Nah no one chased me. Well the Baron said I was supposed to come here.." He seemed pretty persistent. "Hence why I am here chilling out in your lovely office.." Seriously thought it was so clean and kept up.

If she had to venture a guess then she thought it was to get a feel for the woman that was now her new head of house. She missed Justin. Telling herself to push it away, she returned the snakettes smile with a warm one of her own before she got the tea, cups and chocolate biscuits ready on tray. Walking over to join Skylar, Laurel put the tea tray down before taking the chair opposite the girl. Leaning forwards to pour tea from the teapot into the two cups she asked "I hope you like Chamomile? I've got other tea sorts too."
Taking her cup in both hands Laurel leaned back in her chair as Skylar tried to explain her reasons for coming up on the staff dais. The answers just raised a number of new questions. "I see. You wanted to see who Mr. McLeod's replacement as Head of House was, but why didn't you just ask? Or better yet wait down at the snake table to hear it be announced in the Headmistress speech instead of embarrassing yourself and the house by making a scene on the dais and losing house points on the first night."
Raising her cup to her lips Laurel took a sip of tea which she swallowed down before asking. "Do you know what Amortentia is?" If she did then maybe that answered in part why Skylar had blabbed out that River smelled good, or not.

She looked around when her Head of House closed the door. She was being gestured to sit down? Well she couulldd sit down when she felt like it but since she was authority, she HAD to listen. Zae sat down in a cushy chair and felt herself sink in. Jeez...that was unexpected. Now she was crossing her hands, this meant business. Zae was prepared.
Here comes the million dollar question...so the bloody baron did snitch. Of course he would. Now how would she phrase this lightly? "Oh right that..." she began. "Well the Bloody Baron doesn't have nice manners incase you haven't noticed." Well duh everyone at the snakes table noticed it seemed her Head of House didn't. "Sooo I was just giving him a taste of his own medicine. Might I add he seems to be the better person in this situation but he gives out nasty comments to the fellow students too, so excuse me for sticking up for myself." She wasn't letting the Baron get away too easily.

Laurel's office wasn't always clean, but when she had snake visitors or colleagues coming by she made sure that it looked impeccable. It seemed pointless to beat around the bush so she had gone straight to the reason why she had summoned the snakette there. Zarina was quick to give her reasons for her behaviour too. As expected Zarina blamed it all on his bloodiness. Thoughtfully Laurel responded quietly, eyes on Zarina. "I see, just because you think that the Baron is bad mannered, and gives nasty comments it gives you the right to be rude to him?
Let me remind you that the Baron is Slytherin's House ghost and he deserves to be met with respect, politeness and kindness by all Slytherin students no matter what you privately think about him or his comments. I recommend you to meet him with politeness in the future while you go to school here, do you think you can do that Zarina?" The Baron could be resource of information if you weren't going out of your way to be rude to him.

Sipping on her own cup of tea Laurel smiled. "It delights me to see that at least one of my students enjoys tea too." Whether Skylar was a tea fanatic like herself that was a topic for another day. They were speaking about teenage problems after all. Setting her cup down on the table to pick up a cookie and nibbled on it Laurel listened as Skylar proved the theory that she had been reflecting over before the girl's visit. Nodding she said "I think I know what you are going through since I was a teenager not too long ago myself. It's hard sometimes to control your impulses and impatience to act right Skylar?"
"Can you promise me to try in the future to think at least a little before you just act on your impulses?" Because next time it was possible that Skylar might not be so lucky as just losing a few house points but land herself in detention.
Ah, Skylar clearly had no experience with Amortentia so the 'he smells good' comment had just been taking out of the air in the stress of the moment most likely. "I recommend that you don't tell anymore people that they smell good until Professor Canterbury have taught you about Amortentia smells and potions."
Laurel's office wasn't always clean, but when she had snake visitors or colleagues coming by she made sure that it looked impeccable. It seemed pointless to beat around the bush so she had gone straight to the reason why she had summoned the snakette there. Zarina was quick to give her reasons for her behaviour too. As expected Zarina blamed it all on his bloodiness. Thoughtfully Laurel responded quietly, eyes on Zarina. "I see, just because you think that the Baron is bad mannered, and gives nasty comments it gives you the right to be rude to him?
Let me remind you that the Baron is Slytherin's House ghost and he deserves to be met with respect, politeness and kindness by all Slytherin students no matter what you privately think about him or his comments. I recommend you to meet him with politeness in the future while you go to school here, do you think you can do that Zarina?" The Baron could be source of information if you weren't going out of your way to be rude to him.
Zarina heard her head of houses comment and shrugged. Well that seemed right in her opinion. "Well yeah...give him a taste of his own medicine like I said?" Why not stand up for yourself. Zae raised her eyebrow at the aspect of respect, politeness and kindness? She snorted with laughter, she couldn't help it. She didn't care for being polite. After her comment Zae then had the nagging thought of her mother in her head. "Be nice Zarina especially to those higher in power. Remember to shut your big mouth." Zarina sighed and muttered, "Yeah I can do that..." and she crossed her arms and sulked.

Skylar raised her own teacup with her little pinky in the air too, at Professor Vance's tea comment, as a form of cheers to that. "I doubt I'm the only one either. We are in Great Britain, after all." Following the professor's lead, she set her teacup back on its little saucer. She nodded at the woman, trying to imagine her as a teenager and suddenly wondering how old she was. Having this distinct feeling that her parents were older than Professor Vance. Heck, most of her professors were probably younger than her parents, except like probably Myers and Professor B. "Well, I guess I'm no Hufflepuff?" Skylar mused, trying to make light of the situation about impatience.
Hmm... Thinking on the question, or at least giving it the air of thought, Skylar hesitated a moment before responding, "I guess I can try that."
And then the recommendation, at not telling anymore people they smell good until she had an official lesson on amortentia. Which made her think, perhaps she should just research it on her own in the Potions Laboratory? It wasn't as if she was a first year, so experimenting and practicing potions she hadn't done yet was perfectly acceptable, wasn't it? "Fair enough," Inching a little off her seat, she glanced down at her knees before raising her gaze to meet the Professor's. "So ... is that all then?"
