Post Mister Baldvinsson’s Hut

Banner credit: Suziella

On the Grounds just at the edge of the Forbidden Forest stands a hut which have been the home to many Groundskeepers over the years. Although keeping most of its original exterior, its current resident, Mr. Baldvinsson has added a few things to make himself feel more at home. Dangling in the wind above the door hangs feathers, a few ancient blow horns and some runes for protection. Mind your head.

Once the Groundskeeper have let you in, you are met by a large wooden table in the center of the room where you may take a seat and listen to a story or two. You’ll see no photographs of people but of that of wide, white landscapes, mountains and icy blue water that makes the Great Lake resemble a pond. Except for a small kitchen and a generous sized bed in the corner, the walls of the hut is lined with shelves of old artifacts such as bones, runes, mysterious looking tools and books with titles in foreign Nordic languages.

Please do not touch any of the ancient artifacts that Mr. Baldvinsson has collected over the years. If you wish to take a closer look, ask and if you’re lucky; you may get to know how Mr. Baldvinsson came across said object.

Whether it’s curiosity, seeking advice or just dropping in for a cup of tea, Mr. Baldvinsson enjoys visitors. Knock, take a seat on the bench right next to the door and he will be with you shortly. If not inside, he’s probably out making sure no students wander off into the Forbidden Forest.

Please post your character knocking on the door and we will let you in as soon as possible!

Though Henry wasn't exactly impressed with the lack of consistency in staff around here anymore - even if he had grown to expect it, he was secretly glad about one change of face. Flying of course was his passion and he wasn't always so sure about the former flying instructor. Henry often thought the guy had a thing against his house and head of house that he sometimes had a hard time getting past. But he never let that influence his drive to take to the skies.

He was curious if this new guy had a different kind of approach or just what he was about in general. Of course, it was possible that he might not see eye to eye with this one either, but Henry wanted to make a good impression and find out! On one relatively sunny day during the first week back, Henry headed outside and towards the new groundskeeper hut. It looked mostly the same except for a few curious additions that distracted the boy for a few minutes before giving the door a good knock. Hopefully he was in, so he could say hello! What was his name, again?

Haraldur Baldvinsson had a lot to do. A. LOT. The older students were fine but the younger ones... They were just everywhere. They were exploring and they were tiny. So tiny he was afraid to accidently step on one of them. But so far there were no crushed students on his watch.

The summer weather was still an annoyance to him though, so he usually went about his business early morning and in the evenings. (Which meant a lot of spying out through his window to keep the students from "exploring" the Forbidden Forest).

He was just about to take a nap read up on Hogwarts' history when a knock on the door startled him. Haraldur shuffled up to the door and opened it cautiously (praying it wasn't the Headmistress for an interrogation). The groundskeeper's eyes fell on the young boy outside his hut. He had a badge on his robes which meant he was one of those... One of those... One of those. If the old man squinted, he could make out the yellow colors. That was the herbology professor's house! A Puffeluff student.

"AH!" He exlaimed in surprise and opened his door wider. "A student! Well, don't just stand there boy, come in, come in you're letting all the heat in!" And that muggle fan he'd borrowed was really not doing a proper job in keeping the hut cool enough. He waved one arm urgently for the badged student to step inside. "Go on!" In you go.

Skylar was never one to visit professors, but there was something curious about the new groundskeeper that made her want to meet him before her first flying class this term. Perhaps it was the way he was dressed far too warm for the Fall heat or it was the feathers, whatever it was, she was most definitely curious by him. Approaching the hut, something she'd never even done in her first three terms when it was her head of house occupying this spot, she wondered how much of it was changed by the new face. And honestly, she had no clue. She guessed though that Mister Mcleod did NOT have feathers hanging up, although the runes might have been there.

Glancing around, she finally gave a knock on the door. Now she would wait, which thankfully was not bitter cold yet, or she probably wouldn't have made the trek out here.

As a groundskeeper, Haraldur could get away with not knowing the names of everyone. A nod here and there was sufficient enough. But as the new flying instructor... He was expected to actually know all the names of the students by heart. All of them. He barely knew the names of his fellow Staff members. To memorize the children's names was an impossible task. A task he was juuust getting started with as he heard a knock on the door.

Shame really. Now he was going to practice names some other time. Not his fault. There was obviously a student or staff that required his attention. Students always came before boring studies. Heh.

Haraldur opened the door to spot one of the smaller children. Well, they were all tiny even the graduates but this one was one of the small ones. Or semi-small. CUTE "OH. Well hello there, child."

Had someone sneaked into the forbidden forest? Fallen off the wooden bridge? Broken into the broomshed?

"What can I do for you Miss..." Nope. Didn't know the name. "Ahem. Come in, come in." The old man flicked one of his feathers on his head to make it stand straight before taking a step back so she could step by him inside the hut. He'd had a weird ringing in his ear ever since flying through a hail storm a few weeks back so hopefully this little one could speak up. And preferrably articulate.

Henry wasn't completely sure if the groundskeeper was in his hut. He wasn't sure that he kept office (?) hours at all, but he was just taking the chance he'd be there. He could of course come back later if he wasn't. Henry was nearly always outside any chance he had.

While he waited the minute or less for someone to answer the door, the sixteen year old gazed curiously at a few of the runes around the exterior.
He thought he recognized one of them as part of the bindrune that he wore for all of his games, but he really didn't know runes that well. Not more than what Char had told him. The fleeting thought that maybe he should have taken Ancient Runes as his elective instead of Arithmancy went through his mind, since it wasn't being offered now. But he thought that maybe it was too late since he hadn't taken it before.

But before he could give that matter anymore thought, the door was opening and Henry turned his attention there. Oh! He was immediately being ushered inside and the sixteen year old offered the man a wide grin. "Oh, thanks.. uh, Mr. B." Henry couldn't quite remember the man's name besides that it sounded like Bald-something. And Mr. Baldy was anything but respectful. Hopefully the guy wouldn't mind the nickname though.

A curious boy, he couldn't help but look around a bit once inside. He didn't think he was ever in here when Mr. McLeod was here so he didn't know how it compared, but Mr. B seemed to have a lot of cool artifacts. "I'm Henry Whittebrook, Hufflepuff prefect," he said as a matter of introduction, not certain the man would know his name yet. "I was just a little curious about flying lessons this year," he started. Well, eager was more like it. "Oh, and wanted to welcome you to Hogwarts. Are you enjoying it so far?"

When he opened the door to greet her, Skylar was taken aback by his appearance. Although she'd seen him before, up close as she was right now, he appeared much older (and larger) than she had taken notice of at the feast. Then again, he had been sitting down, behind a table. Hidden by fur.

Also, he just called her child. Sure he wasn't responsible for knowing all the student's names, as were her other professors, but it was still strange being called 'child', even if she technically was one. It seemed rather derogatory and definitely discombobulated her for a moment.

"Miss Diggory."
She said, when she finally regained full awareness. "Skylar Diggory is the name." Also, did he always have feathers on his head? Because she kind of wanted one. A feather in hair would look cute, the fourth year decided. And he seemed to be waiting for why she was here, which ... well, why WAS she here? Chewing on her lower lip, she tucked some stray hair behind her ears. "I just wanted to say hello. See how you were liking these grounds... they seem different from where you're from, yes?" she was referring, of course, to his outfit.

"I was just a little curious about flying lessons this year," he started. Well, eager was more like it. "Oh, and wanted to welcome you to Hogwarts. Are you enjoying it so far?"

Haraldur closed the door behind Henry and walked past him inside the hut. He had never been one for grand living situations. He was used to living in the woods where an abandoned treehouse was considered fancy. ”Welcome, welcome.” He might have puffed his chest out a little as he gestured at the shelves of… Well, things he owned. He actually really liked the hut. It wasn’t too big or too small, it was just right. Plus, it was close to work, so he didn’t have to think about commuting.

Yes, yes, Henry Whittebrook. He remembered that name from the staff meetings as one of the prefects. Kind of. His memory wasn’t what it had been. When he mentioned flying lessons, the old man shone up, unable and not really trying to hide his excitement.

”You’re curious about flying! Of course you are!” Haraldur knew it was a good boy from the moment he laid eyes on him. He had a special talent for that, if he could say so himself. ”Sit! Sit!” He ushered Henry to the large wooden table in the middle of the room and pulled out a chair for him. They would now enjoy each other’s company over a cup of tea. Because that’s what people did in the UK when guests came over. He’d learned that in his research of the country.

”Thank you for the welcome, Mr. Whittebrooke. I am enjoying it. Bit too hot though, don’t you think?” The old man was constantly forced to find objects around him to fan himself with. Really, when would December get here?

The newly appointed groundskeeper took the kettle from the stove and poured it into two large cups before dumping some leaves in it. That’s what they all enjoyed right? Warm water with plants in it. It was an odd drink but if that’s what they wanted then THAT’S what they would get. Haraldur placed one of the cups on the table for Henry and took the other one for himself as he sat down. He obviously wouldn’t drink his because quite honestly, it probably tasted as awful as it looked.

”SO, you’re a flyer then?” CALLED IT.

Right, Diggory. He knew that. Obviously. ”Miss Diggory.” So formal. ”You’re in Slytherin.” In case she’d forgotten, or he just stated it to show off. ”What a nice little surprise, come in, come in.” Because you know, squinting in the sunlight was only fun for like a nano second.

He turned his back to her and went back into the hut, scooping up the books about Hogwarts’ history from the table and dropped them on the floor to deal with later. Professor Kalen would obviously hear that he’d treated them with as much care as he did his brooms. Ahem.

”Yes, Hogwarts is a bit different to say the least. I never even visited when I went to Durmstrang.” But that was a long, long long time ago not that long ago. ”I must say I like it though.” Except for the summer. He fled the British summer. ”But it does take some getting used to.”

”Would you like something to eat? Drink? I have…” He searched through some of the cupboards but closed them again giving her a grumpy look. ”Well. I don’t actually have anything to offer food-wise.” Which was just sad in and of itself. It meant he would be flying (because why walk when you can fly) up to the castle to raid the kitchen once the students went to sleep later that evening. ”But to drink I have… Water. Warm water, I mean, tea. And… Yes.” What a nice host he was. Both cold and hot water.

As he looked around a bit, Henry couldn't help but to wonder what it would be like to essentially live outside - or in an outdoor dwelling. He already wanted to have an enormous treehouse one day and this hut was essentially a treehouse but on the ground. Which, okay, was not quite as cool and probably not as large as what Henry would want, but it was still outdoorsy and interesting.

"Well, thank you, sir!" Henry grinned at the man who he thought was very friendly and he decided he liked him instantly. And he did find the need to get a little closer to Mr. B's shelves as he gestured to them, just so he could see the artifacts closer. What were these things? But he turned back around when the groundskeeper offered him a place to sit.

Sure, he wouldn't mind sitting for a few, and he took the offered seat, nodding eagerly as the subject turned to flying. And it seemed like Mr. B really liked that fact, which told Henry that maybe he was passionate about it too. Which would make sense since he was the flying instructor, though one never really knew.

Too hot? Henry gave the man a curious kind of look. It wasn't even as hot as it had been in July and August. "Um, actually I really like summer. I like going to the beach and swimming in the sea." And there were lots of other fun things to do during break. "But winter's a close second," he added quickly. "Bundling up to go ice skating and having hot chocolate by the fireplace is fun too. Plus my birthday's in winter." Honestly, he could probably find things he liked about every season. "Do you prefer winter?"

Oh, tea was nice. Henry wouldn't say no to tea, even if he didn't like it. He was polite like that. He did prefer his with a touch of honey, but he took a little sip from his cup before setting it down. Yeah, better with honey.

"I am!" he grinned with another enthusiastic nod. "Flying's one of my favorite things. I actually play Quidditch too, and my sister does too. So I've been flying since I was really young. I'm pretty experienced." He wondered about Mr. B's experience too, not that he doubted his expertise, just wondered if he played any broom games or was strictly a flier. But he'd let him offer that on his own. "Are there going to be classes for really experienced fliers too?"

Dora couldnt recall ever going to the groundskeeper hut before in her Hogwarts career. Was that odd? Surely not. She was just kind of... particular about people. Professors included.

But she'd be lying if she didn't admit that the new dude had piqued her interest. He was an odd duck and those tended to be her PEOPLE. So with her hands shoved in her pockets, the Gryffindor made her way down to the edge of the forest to the hut. She paused and let her eyes wander over all of thE runes and feathers and such before she moved forward and knocked lightly on the door.

She hoped he was in. She had questions. QUESTIONS ONLY HE COULD ANSWER.

Heh, he was funny, this one, Skylar decided she liked him already. "Yes, sir, I am. This will be my fourth year in the house." You know, just in case he forgot that she wasn't completely brand new. She was officially a middle-classmen. "My parents were actually Hufflepuff Prefects during their time here, and my older siblings were both Ravenclaws." Not that she expected him to remember all that, but just some information in case he cared to know.

Did he just ... drop books? Opening her mouth in disbelief, she then quickly closed it, figuring it was probably none of her business. And it really wasn't. So he went to Durmstrang, how interesting?

"Durmstrang, hmm? Yea, I would imagine Hogwarts would be different. But there's really no place else I'd rather be, given my parents and siblings have gone here. And friends too." Friends were important, even to a Slytherin. "though to be honest, the lack of quidditch is troublesome. I mean, there was a dangerous portal and a flesh eating monster last year, and there have been swarms of spiders, so surely quidditch can't be that dangerous compared to what else Hogwarts has been through." Just saying. And considering he taught flying in addition to managing the grounds, this was probably the person to talk to, right?

"Water would be good," Skylar nodded appreciatively, as she found her way over to a seat. How very hospitable he was...

Haraldur gave the boy an odd look at the mention of summer. What's to enjoy? There was no worse feeling than that of your clothes sticking to your body because SWEAT. Because summer was hot. Too hot. But he let it slide. Apparently it was a common opinion. Did he prefer winter? The groundskeeper nodded briskly. "In Scotland? Yes, I prefer the winter here." He didn't mind summer in Svalbard but anywhere else, winter was definitely to prefer. "I don't acclimate that well." He admitted, mumbling.

Moving on from the subject of summer to something MUCH more interesting: Flying. Haraldur leaned forward over the table, listening to what the young man had to say. "Quidditch is a good sport." He nodded, approvingly. "There will always be lessons for experienced fliers Mr. Whittebrook." This he said with conviction. The more he thought of actually teaching, the more he took it to heart. "If you ever have any thoughts on my lessons, my door is always open." Student's opinions were important, especially student's who seemed passionate about flying.

"Sounds like it means a great deal to you. Any thoughts on following down this path after graduation?"

What was this now? Asking about career choices? He was such a teacher

Haraldur had raided the kitchen. It was true. He had taken his broom and zoomed up to the castle, gone to the second floor and just raided the kitchen. It was easy to hide a steak or two things in his big fur coats. He was just setting up for lunch when he heard two knocks on the door.

Haraldur glanced over his shoulder at the door. Back to the food on the table and then at the door again. What if students were in the forbidden forest? What if a firstie was being dragged into the lake by a grindylow?

...

What if someone had broken into the broomshed?!

"I'm coming, I'm coming!" He called from inside the hut and quickly shuffled over to the door to swing it open.

"Miss Umbridge?" He raised his eyebrows and took in her expression. She seemed calm enough. Probably not a grindylow then. "Good day to you, Miss Umbridge." He brushed off his fur coat and straightened a feather on his head. "What can I do for you?"

"A fourth year! One last calm year before the OWLs." Haraldur chuckled. Ah, he did not miss those. He smiled at the mention of her family. Even though he had never gone to Hogwarts himself, everyone knew of the different houses.

The basics anyway. Heh. "A big mix then! No Gryffindors?" The Gryffindor house matched his red feathers. He liked red. Other than that, he didn't have any preference towards either house. He'd gathered that the students got quite attached to their house and the school, young miss Diggory was a good example of that. "Friends and family is important." He nodded in agreement but not really agreeing. He had always been a lone wolf. But that life wasn't for everyone and friends and family was important to the young ones.

Then the conversation continued on to the monster and the spider swarm and he clasped his hands over his chest while he listened.

Yup.

Hogwarts was a place for trouble but it prepared the students for the real world. The world of flesh eating monsters... Yeah. It was bad. Oooobviously nothing bad would ever happen at the school as long as he was the groundskeeper. Nothing got past him.

Unless he was sleeping of course. Or looking the other way.

Haraldur brought her a glass of water and sat down by the table with one of his own. "Believe me, if it were up to me..." He interrupted himself and took a few sips of the water in annoyance. "I will do what I can do bring quidditch back on the table for discussion." He promised her with a determined nod. He was distraught that they didn't have the games anymore. A few broken arms? Stress and pressure from the members of the house? There were worse things in the world. Like flesh eating monsters.

No, he was perfectly in agreement with Miss Diggory on this one. "I cannot bring quidditch back without the rest of the staff with me." And probably the Board of Governors. "But I promise you that I will try. Until then, you are more than welcomed to gain access to the broomshed and the quidditch material I have in there."

Haraldur leaned back and took a few more sips of the water. The annoyance quickly disappeared. "What position would you like to play then, Miss Diggory?" He asked curiously.

The calm before her OWLS, yes, yes, thank you for that reminder. Except Skylar was actually kind of looking forward to taking her OWL exams, because she was kind of a nerd like that. Not that Professor B needed to know that, so she just nodded in agreement. "Halfway through Hogwarts too." It was weird; three years younger, three years older. Wasn't she like just in first year? Her older friends weren't kidding when they said these years flew by. "Oh, there's gryffindors too, actually. Just not in my immediate family, but extended yes." Sky nodded; figuring there was little need to mention more than that.

Aww, he agreed with her that quidditch was harmless compared with the other things mentioned. "Of course not. It wasn't gone in a day, so i doubt it'd take a day to bring it back." She mused, and nodded appreciatively when he said she was welcome to the broomshed and quidditch material. "Why thank you. I'll most definitely be taking advantage of that, especially this year, since as you said, last calm year."

What position? "Well, it's complicated... in my heart, I know I'm a beater, but I'm kind of too violent as a beater, so lately I've been working on training for the seeker position." Because seeker was kind of challenging, but fun for sure.

Anyway. She shook herself from her thoughts and smiled some more. "Sir, I was wondering about the hot springs. And the igloo actually. Do you have a few moments to chat?" Because if this was a bad time she could totally come back!

Halfway through. Haraldur clasped his hands over his chest, listening to the young (YES, YOUNG) student. Ah,
he was relieved he wasn't in school anymore. Trapped and forced to study things you wouldn't use later in life? Nah.

He didn't share these thoughts with her though. No, he was going to be very supportive. Study = good. Cutting class to practice quidditch = Bad. Mmmhm. "Then you're almost done!" Done = Freedom. Yup.
Three years was nothing, three years always felt like three weeks. Tops.

Yes, yes, the quidditch material. "You must definitely should, Miss Diggory." He nodded, determined. "You can always catch up on other classes once the snow gets here." It was just nicer to fly in the fall than in the winter. At least, others seemed to think so. And really, flying should be a priority for everyone.

"Too violent?" Haraldur smiled, amused. Anyone was violent with a bat though. "But seeker is a great way to learn control and patience. Maybe practicing as a seeker will help control your... Violent beater-problem."

How was he finding Hogwarts? Haraldur nodded, deep in thought. "I enjoy it here." He decided. He liked the grounds, he liked the lake, the hut and he liked his position as the flying instructor. "It wouldn't kill me if the snow got here sooner rather than later but what can you do, eh?"

He raised his eyebrows surprised when she mentioned the hot springs. He really hoped the sulphur smell had returned, he would never hear the end of it from the other members of staff. "Of course, of course, of course." Haraldur gestured with one arm and stepped aside to let her in.

And then he remembered the stolen food on the table. He cleared his throat. "Oh, don't mind that. It's... It's not all for me." Actually it really was. "ANYWAY, you want something to drink?" He swiftly moved the food from the table to a nearby counter. Lunch could wait. "Tea? Pumpkin juice?" Because he had LOADS of stuff now after raiding the kitchen previously.

Worth noting that he wasn't a thief, simply a large groundskeeper who needed a lot of food in order to keep all the students like.. Alive.

"I'm honestly very glad to hear that, siiir. I find you to be a breath of fresh air here," she with great sincerity as she stepped past the man and took in the decor of the hut. It was awesome! The Gryffindor briefly wondered if the man would let her come hang out here some time, really. Like it was cozy and a bit odd... and just comfortable. Yas.

"I'm not a huge fan of the colder months, but I'm sure it would be a welcome change for you. " Not knowing SPECIFICALLY where he hailed from yet, she had deduced by his accent and his runes and fur coats and such he was from a Scandinavian country... possibly. She could definitely be wrong, but her intensive studies of foreign languages led her to this conclusion. If she was wrong she gladly welcomed the correction though! NO BETTER WAY TO LEARN!

Oh... but wait. Food and drink? FROM A PROFESSOR? Dora shook her head so that her curls bounced a bit. "I have a very strict personal rule against accepting food and drink from professors. No offense meant, of course. " Although she had found that most DID take it as a personal offense. Sighs.

But to the matter at hand! "I was merely curious what spells you had cast on the igloo and the springs. They must be very powerful forms of magic and I find it... curious. I'd love to learn more about it. Keeping an igloo cold enough here year round is a mighty feat. And I've also encountered natural springs... they smell gross. How are you maintaining this magic, sir. " It seemed clear to her he was a powerful wizard. She just wanted to KNOW MORE!

Yes, yes, the quidditch material. "You must definitely should, Miss Diggory." He nodded, determined. "You can always catch up on other classes once the snow gets here." Almost done? How did being halfway done with school equate to being almost done? Skylar liked the older man, but somehow failed to see his logic here. Nonetheless, she gave him a polite smile. "Yes, sir... Almost done." Except not, but she would just agree with him, because he was older and it seemed wrong to disagree with someone who was like your grandparent's age. She still had OWL and NEWT studies to get through, which were fairly big years and she didn't plan to slack off for those exams.

Wait, did he just encourage her to skive off of homework until the snow got here? She couldn't be sure, but she was FAIRLY sure that is what he'd been implying. She was also sure he hadn't been filled in on who was a good student versus not, which is why Skylar said next what she did. "I can keep up with my studies and practice quidditch just fine." She was well-rounded and good in the academic department like that; got that from her mother's side, no doubt.

She smiled when he seemed amused by her revelation in being too violent of a beater. "That's what I'm talking about. But I mean, I guess sending your brother to St Mungos is probably a good enough reason to switch positions ... at least temporarily." She mused, thoughtfully, glancing down at her knees and then raised her gaze to meet his again.

Rising up from where she'd been seated, she gave a little awkward curtsy. "Anyway, I should be going now. Thank you for the water, and I guess... I'll see you around?" She assumed so, given how much time she spent practicing her flying.

A breath of fresh air...? Was that a hint that his breath smelled badly? Or just a Brittish compliment? One could never know for sure. Deciding he would take it as a compliment, he smiled at the young lady.

Ah yes, the cold. "It'll just be easier to move around once it gets colder." During the hotter days all he could do was nap. But in the winter he could actually move and be productive.

But he was surprised she didn't want anything to eat or drink. Surprised but oddly happy about that answer. More for him. "A very strict rule?" He shuffled to sit down by the table, gesturing with his hand for her to sit down if she wanted to. He also briefly wondered what had brought that on. "I think it sounds like a smart rule, young lady." People with rules lived longer. That was just a fact.

Then she got down to business. Grounds business. The groundskeeper smiled, obviously amused by her questions. "I'm flattered, Miss Umbridge." Very powerful forms of magic. Heh. "To create the igloo, I simply used Glacius, a freezing charm. The ice blocks forming the igloo is actually water from the great lake. I added an atmospheric charm to keep it that way." He didn't have to use the freezing charm all year, the atmospheric charm was quite easy to entertain longer periods of time.

"And the hot springs..." Huff, puff, more huffing. "IIII wanted to keep the natural smell of the hot springs but.. Yeah." Apparently that would create a "horrible work environment". Scoff. "I got a little help with that one." There was a reason he wasn't the potions or muggle studies professor. "It is a mixture of baking soda and v.... V.... Vinegar. That's the one." With his memory recollection failing, he was very proud of remembering that one.

"But... Maybe we should keep this between us. The mystery adds some cool points, doesn't it?" He laughed. "Cool. Get... Get it? Ahh..." He laughed at his own jokes because he was lame that guy.

Haraldur stood up right after she did and nodded his head. "I'll be seeing you out on the pitch, Miss Diggory."

He followed her to the door and opened it for her. "Good luck in your seeker practice. And, uh, try to avoid sending anyone to St. Mungos in class." The flying instructor gave the young student a grin. She was more than welcome to step by and ask his advice any time.

But for now, it was time hor him to go on patrol take a walk on the grounds.

He didn't mind summer in Svalbard but anywhere else, winter was definitely to prefer.

Henry really didn't understand the odd look Mr. B was giving him, but he didn't question it either. Sure, he and most of his friends really enjoyed summer, it was freedom from school and they got to mostly do what they wanted. And he personally loved the beach. But he also knew there was fun to be had in all seasons, just different types of fun. "Oh.." he nodded sympathetically. "Is it much different where you're from?" Where was he from?

It didn't surprise Henry too much that the flying instructor might like Quidditch, but it did make him visibly light up to talk about it. "It's a great sport," he grinned. "Do you think it will ever come back to Hogwarts?" He had pretty much given up on it returning while he was here, considering he had only one more year left after this one. But wouldn't it be great if he could even just play his last year? "Okay, great. I know I have a lot of experience but there's always something to learn. I can always be better." Even if it was just more practice. Did he have ideas on lessons? Henry would have to give it some thought, but he was sure he could offer an opinion.

"Um, yeah, I had been giving it some thought lately." With his mum in education, it was something that was pretty much insisted on. Plus he had to narrow things down a bit with his OWLs last year. "I'm hoping to play professional Quidditch after school. But I also want to go to university to study creatures." Part time of course if Quidditch did work out, but it was also sort of a back up plan if it didn't.

"Oh, we have summer in Svalbard." The professor smiled at the boy. "And the sun never sets there in the summer." Yes, he missed it. The never ending sunlight. "The sun here is just more... Aggressive." Yes.

The old man could talk about the subject of quidditch returning to Hogwarts for hours. The kids wanted it, the kids deserved it. The kids, the kids, the KIDS. However, the subject was a really party pooper in all the board of governors meetings or staff meetings. He still brought it up though. Endlessly. But so far, he hadn't been successful.

"I..." He glanced at the boy. Young man, even, and sighed. "I don't know." He replied truthfully. "It's not impossible. And if it were up to me, I would already be drawing up a schedule for the matches. As it is... It's not just up to me." There were loads of grumpy parents and not so convinced staffers that also had a say in the matter. "However," He added, in a more softer tone. "I will do whatever I can to convince them it's safe for quidditch to be played at Hogwarts." Yes, he'd continue to bring it up, he was a very persistent man.

On the matter of Henry possibly pursuing a career in quidditch, Haraldur leaned forward across the table, intrigued. "YES!" He exlaimed, clapping his hands together a few times. "You SHOULD play quidditch!" This was adult advising, right? Promoting your own subject. He cleared his throat and leaned back in his seat again. "What I mean is, it would be such a shame for professional quidditch for a talent to go to waste. Plus, and don't tell anyone I said this; it can be a dangerous sport." It was rare for professional quidditch players to have a very long career as active players. "A combination would be good. Something to fall back on, whichever subject you chose to focus on."

Wow. He was so wise and inspirational. Look at him go.

Svalbard. Was that in... Sweden? No, Henry wasn't completely sure, but the name sounded like it was in that part of the world. And he was a traveler in spirit if not as much in the flesh as he'd like, so he wanted to find out exactly where that was. He wasn't sure if it was that polite to ask though. Whoa... what? "The sun never sets? Really?" Wow. Now he really wanted to see that. He loved summer and if the sun never set.... it would just seem to last forever, wouldn't it?

Sure, Henry was disappointed, but he couldn't say he was surprised. He could tell that Mr. B was a big fan of Quidditch too and he knew that it wasn't up to him to just snap his fingers and just make Quidditch reappear again. He knew and he nodded his understanding. "Sure, that'd be great, Mr. B. I know it probably won't come back while I'm here though." Unless it came back next year and that just seemed unlikely. "Some of my friends from the U17 team and I practice as much as we can, and we play pickup games sometimes." Yeah, it wasn't really the same, but it was all that was allowed and they needed to keep their skills sharp for the summer league.

But he grinned widely at the Flying Instructor’s sudden excitement. “That is the plan, sir,” he agreed with a nod. And yes, he knew all about how dangerous it was too. He was prepared. “Oh, yeah, I know,” he added with a chuckle. “My sister’s been playing pro almost as long as I can remember.” Of course she had taken that bit of time off to have kids. “I’ve been around Quidditch all my life.” He honestly couldn’t imagine not playing it.

Haraldur leaned back in his seat and listened to what the child-, boy- young man told him about quidditch. The old man always enjoyed the company of people who shared the same enthusiasm for flying as he did. So he couldn't say he was surprised when he found himself especially invested in the students who did as well.

"I'm happy to hear it. You're welcome to borrow any supplies you and your team need, buf of course you already knew that." He glanced quickly on the large clock hanging on the wall and realized he had a lesson for some first years to plan and school brooms to test.

"I'm going to have to cut this a little short, I'm afraid, my boy." He got out of his seat and gave the young man a warm smile.

Yup. He liked him. The kid was on his like-list. "I'll be looking forward to seeing you in class soon, until then, keep practising. And, don't feel like you can't stop by for chat sometime as well." Like... Any time. All the time.
