Please note that these actions take away from the Fatigue Points section. Also note that these are only taken into account if you're attacking or avoiding a spell. If you're simply moving around the hall, these points don't need to be considered.

OOC: This duel must be completed by the 15th of June by 11:59pm GMT. You're required to make a minimum of 3 posts each in that time.

Include as much information as you can about the spell in the spoiler section at the bottom of your post, including the directionality of the spell.
Also remember to be as realistic as possible with your charrie's age and ability.

Derf honestly had no idea what to expect in this duel, but if he had learned anything last year it was to always expect the unexpected. Too bad he didn't even know what TO expect so it was kinda hard to know whether or not it was unexpected, you know? But he liked Faith and found himself faced with a similar moral dilemma he had when dueling Abey last term. HOW did you duel a FRIEND? He hadn't really had this problem when dueling Kane...because he hadn't really KNOWN Kane and also he was a full year older. But this was FAITH!
Bounding up on to the stage, Derf waited for Faith before bowing all politely and such and then took on his ready dueling position. Ladies first? It was not that he also realized he had never dueled a GIRL classmate before. And while Derf did not really see the need to treat her any different than he had Abey or Kane or Simon in a duel...something FELT different. He couldn't really put his finger on it though.
Anyway. Focus. He could do that. Maybe. He already knew ONE spell he was going to cast...because he always did. But once...just ONCE in his life could it actually hit?! Opting with some sort of distraction to start, Derf sent a Rictusempra at his friend first. That was relatively harmless, you know? Plus Faith had a REALLY nice laugh, in case anyone was curious to know. He quickly followed this one up with his signature AND the one spell that he could actually get through without stuttering over the incantation despite all the 's' sounds. "Slugulus Eructo!"

Faith didn't know how to feel about this duel, really. Mum hadn't let her join the duelling club last year because she didn't trust her not to accidentally kill someone. But a lot of convincing later, she did agree over the summer to let Faith join the club for the upcoming year. Which was great, except most people she knew were in the club since first year which meant they knew more about duelling and had better reflexes - but she was determined to get it right and do well and make Uncle Legend proud.
Or at least proud-ish. Lose with dignity and all that.
Bowing deeply from the waist as she was taught, all the blonde could hear was the rush of blood in her ears as she straightened back up. Certainly not the incantation Derf was using, and by the time she saw the jet of light coming from his wand, it was too late. The tickling charm took hold, and she immediately started squirming. Giggling uncontrollably, she tried her level best to straighten back up and point her wand back at her friend (HER FRIEND. HOW WAS IT EVEN OK TO DUEL THEIR FRIENDS?) and prepared herself for offense, only to hear him throw a slug-vomitting charm at her.
AHHHH!
"Proteg-" she tried, but then burst into a fit of giggles, eventually resulting in her rolling onto the floor, she only barely managed to avoid the stream of light coming at her. Well. At least she didn't have to vomit slugs for the next few minutes of the duel? Only, she'd have to keep laughing until she figured out how to stop it or if the charm wore off. From her location on the floor, she whispered the Jelly-Fingers Curse at Derf, pointing her wand as squarely at his hands as she could while restraining giggles. Which largely meant holding her breath.
And on that note, she'd just try to clamber back upright. If the curse took hold, at least he'd drop his wand and have some trouble jinxing her again. But just in case: "St- Steleus!" she gasped, then clutched her side. Giggling was painful and she was going to get him back for this. Really. Watch out, Derf. She'd tickle you when you least expect it now. Like in Herbology.

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Why did his signature spell NEVER seem to hit? Although to be fair MAYBE it would have this time if Faith had not been struck by his tickling charm which, to be fair, he was relieved hit because at least it was rather benign, you know? And she really DID have a nice laugh. A laugh that he was kinda sorta captivated by and why her Jelly-Fingers Hex hit him easily.
His fingers tingled and then felt bubbly - like when you opened up a fizzy drink kind of bubbling and everything foamed over the rim of the can - and soon his wand fell to the ground. Scrambling on his knees to pick it up, Derf attempted to hold his wand as well as he possibly could. He wasn't so good with Finite yet, you know? He mostly just...kept making whatever spell was in effect worse sooooo rather than risk turning his fingers into ACTUAL jelly...he would just endure this. He JUST had enough time to throw up a basic Contego, giving it a little extra umpth to rebound her spell back at her, before he regrouped to throw something attitudinal at her. BUT WHAT?!
UM UM UM UUUUUUUUUUUUUM...OH!
Curse of the Bogies! No wait...he kinda felt bad about using that on faith. Hmmm...OH BETTER IDEA! "Tarantallegra!"

Faith was very much out of breath by now, and finding it very difficult to stay upright. Which meant that she was at quite the disadvantage here, really. Because giggling during a duel was somewhat inappropriate and definitely inconvenient but this was all Derf's fault. And she was going to tickle him back for this in person when he least expected it. The Hit List now included Derf. Only for tickles. No actual hitting, though she'd have to ask Noelle for some boxing tips since she was so good at the whole combat thing.
A small shriek escaping her as the jinx rebounded against the shield, but she only managed to raise her wand by the time it reached her. Being too busy giggling was bad enough, now she was giggling and sneezing.
ATCHOO.
Whoever said that dueling was fun was probably up for a sock in the jaw. EN GARDE, LIAR. Ok, maybe they weren't lying because this would probably be really funny once she was done with the duel and not giggle!sneezing but dang did her sneezing jinx work wonders. She was oddly proud of herself, heck.
But this time, she did see (or hear) the next spell coming. And there was no way in Merlin's soggy left sock that she was going to survive this duel if she was giggling and sneezing and dancing. No. Just no. So much no. No on so many different levels, but mostly on the level that she did not want to tap-dance while sneezing and giggling. Seriously, Derf, what were you thinking? Faith was pretty sure she hit him with a jelly-fingers curse not a jelly-brain one.
"CONTEGO!" she squeaked, between fits of laughter, and then punctuated with a sneeze. Bright side was, she could feel it wearing off. Not-so-bright side was, like all sneezes, you don't know when it's gonna hit until it does. Faith's shield charm was less effective than Derf's insofar that the curse didn't rebound, so she would just have to retaliate with one of her own.
Taking quite a while to steady herself and her wand and not sneeze at an inopportune moment, Faith took a very deep breath and with the most focus she'd had since the giggling curse hit (because honestly, she needed it) cast a Babbling Curse at her friend.
It was mostly harmless. Derf and her talked a lot anyway.

There seemed to be a recurring theme of friend vs friend in this first round of duels and, if he was completely honest with himself, he actually found it interesting. Not that he wanted the students to feel conflicted but it was much harder to face your friend than it was to face someone you hardly knew. And if history said anything, friendship duels were meant to help.
Hoping that this duel would follow that path, Hirsch watched the duel commence. It wasn't long before there was laughter filling up the arena, only to be punctuated by sneezing and the shouting of spells. Again, they were harmless spells to use but if he was glad about anything, it was that they were already getting to grips with their defensive magic. Contego might not be as strong as Protego but it was a stepping stone to good defensive skills.
Did it excite him? It did.
Unfortunately, it wasn't long after the second Contego rang in the air that the duel had to come to a close. The shield appeared between the two duellers, making the light from the Babbling Curse hit the shield and ricochet off. Oops?
"A short but sweet duel," he said, appearing from his spot in the corner. He flicked his wand at both of them, eliminating the effects of any spells that might be lingering in the air. "I have to say, I'm very proud of the use of the Contego spell. Well done to both of you!" Smile. "Since there can only be one winner, congratulations to you, Mr Ashburry-Hawthorne, for taking the lead in this duel. And well done on putting up a good fight, Miss Chosen."
