So she had held her own until the last minute during the last duel. So anyone could have been befuddled by a confundus charm, even the most talented of witches and wizards she supposed. But it still had bugged Cassie a little and she certainly wanted to do better the second time around. For herself. For showing her head of house that she was listening to his lessons and understanding his subject and words. No being surprised instead of noticing things due to vigilance. At least she wasn’t going up against another challenger for the IMPS. Not that that was anything bad against the Gryffindor she was sharing the duel with.

Nope…her fellow 5th year just lucked out concerning that embarrassment.

“Good luck,” Cass offered the other girl with politeness as she moved onto the floor of the dueling arena. She then gave a bow with a move of tradition, gathering herself in preparation of what was to come. Which including the decision on what spell or action to start out with. Her wand at the ready even as she straightened up to her proper height, the Ravenclaw took her stance and cast. “Levicorpus!” she pronounced clearly, watching the spell head towards her opponent. Best not to go too easy and let someone have the upper hand. And then as she readied herself for the counter, Cassie added the feather-light charm on herself as she had seen its usefulness first hand in previous matches.

Melbourne bowed down to Cassandra on the dueling platform and gave her a small smile at the spoken words of luck. ”Good luck to you as well McNally,” Melbourne’s wand was at the ready and her eyes trained on Cassandra’s slim frame. She was ready to see what she was going to cast at her when the words left Cassandra’s lips she was ready.

The incantation had left her lips just as Cassandra finished her spell. “protego”, she knew that she had to act quickly in order to not be caught off guard. Twisting to the side away from the spell – incase her shield did not work Mel had turned her wand toward herself and cast a feather light charm on herself. It was then, that the nearly sixteen year old girl decided to try a new spell she had been working on for OWL studies.

“Entomorphis” she cast, the movement was a breeze. Really, she did wonder how it would work…if it would work? Was the girl going to develop a pair of antenna? She had no idea but this, it was going to be fun to find out.

Cassandra moved to dodge the deflected spell, not wanting to hang by her own ankle up in the air thank you very much. She much preferred dueling with her feet on the ground so she had the better chance of getting a hit off of her opponent. An opponent who also appeared to understand the help that the feather light charm could give in movement and the like, casting it on herself. The Ravenclaw absently nodded in acknowledgement of the casting as she stood ready for the next move she had to make.

“Protego!” she quickly cast, making said move, deflecting the spell away and perhaps maybe, just maybe, catching Melbourne. Entomorphis…Cass didn’t want to become a bug either. “Flipendo,” she added to the tail of the shield charm, not wanting to wait and allow the girl too much chance to react and get away from. That tended to be her luck though, dueling with those who seemed to have all the luck despite her practicing where she could.

The fact that the first spell used here was Levicorpus was something that made Hirsch very happy, indeed. It gave an indication as to how the rest of the duel was going to go and if this was the starting spell, he really couldn't wait to see what else the duellers had up their sleeves.

It was exciting, wasn't it?

Unfortunately, all too soon, the time remaining for the duel was coming to a close, meaning that the students didn't have too much time to display their duelling abilities. Pity, really, because he would've loved to see what else they could put forward for this duel. As always, the shield was struck up between them, just as Cassie cast the Knockback Jinx.

"Excellent! Really and truly," he said, emerging from his spot and walking over to the two duellers, "That was a great display of skill and I'm sure the two of you would've shown more great spellwork if time wasn't a limit here." But they did have other duellers who needed to compete so..... "That was very close but seeing as there can only be one winner, congratulations, Cassie, on taking the lead in this duel. And well done, Miss Sorin-Ward, for putting up a great fight."

And they were allowed to go.

Stats:
Cassandra McNally: 111.67%
Melbourne Sorin-Ward: 110.56%
