As you crest the staircase coming up from the sixth floor, you'll notice a statue to your right. Lachlan the Lanky is a great, if not extremely old, landmark for a meeting place, because he has just enough space behind him for a firstie to squeeze in and hide.

Never underestimate the element of surprise when greeting your friends, and even more so when sneaking up on your enemies. This statue of a wizard innocently reading is anything but innocent.

Was she lost again? Hazel thought she was finally getting the hang of all the nooks and crannies of Hogwarts castle, but for some reason, the higher levels still go her all turned around sometimes.

Oh well. If she wasn't sure where she was, she was at least going to get to know this particular area before she headed back down the stairs. The statue got most of her attention. Her head tilted this way and that, taking in its features. Her lips twitched into a smile as she looked around it, seeing a spot just big enough for her tiny body.

She started trying to wiggle her way into the space, to see if she'd really fit.

Abey obviously had PLENTY of reason to be hanging around the seventh floor obviously. Because he LIVED up here obviously actually obviously. Well... not here, not in this corridor, but up on this level.

Sort of... well, not really. Because the part he lived in was actually in a tower actually, and that was higher up. BUT the seventh floor was where the entrance to the common room was. That was the point. And so it made sense that whenever Abey wanted to go for a walk to avoid doing homework (which was every time he actually attempted his homework actually) it was the seventh floor that he ended up roaming around. Because of the extent of his procrastination and avoidance, he knew the seventh floor almost as well as... well... uh... well, he wasn't sure. But he knew his way around.

Which meant he knew this statue, for surely sure. This statue was the one that he liked to hide behind and jump out to scare Théo or Charlie when they walked past. Not to be MEAN or anything, but because apparently that was what Gryffindors did for fun. That was what a sixth year had told him, anyway, and Abey was trying to fit in. With his CAPTORS.

Of course, that meant that Abey knew to be wary of this statue, and who might be hiding behind it to try and get their revenge (Charlie was the type to get revenge, after all). So, as soon as he got close to it, Abey creeeeeeeeept closer. He thought he could hear some shuffling, and he was not going to let someone jump out at him! From this angle, though, he couldn't see anyone. Spoooooky.

Closer... closer... and then Abey hurried forward those last few steps and leaned in to see if someone was back there. And, in doing so, he managed to startle himself all the same.

"AAH!" Abey yelped, quite loudly too, out of reflex. Because actually if you KNEW someone was hiding somewhere and went to look, it STILL sometimes scared you when you found them actually. But then he smiled. "Hazel!"

HE KNEW THIS ONE.

As Hazel worked her body behind the statue, it occurred to her that this would also be a space where a number of smaller critters could hide. She filed that realization away in her mind, just in case someone's pet ever went missing or if she were in search of new micey friends.

A few more wiggles and Hazel was just about completely behind the statue, except for maybe a glimpse of her ginger braid.

It was then that she heard footsteps and had the sudden, fleeting thought that maybe she wasn't supposed to be back her. She started to breathe slowly and shallowly, hoping not to alert whoever it was to her presence. If only she could turn around a little and see... Hazel tried to wiggle a bit to turn around but was finding it mostly futile. Maybe the space wasn't as big as she'd thought.

At the sound of the yelp, Hazel herself squealed and only relaxed when she heard her name. She knew that voice! "Abey!" She smiled in relief and tried to wiggle to turn once more... before finally realizing that she could back out exactly the way she came.

Once that was done, Hazel turned to face him, brushing dust from her shirt. "Hi."

Abey waited patiently for Hazel to pull herself back out of that space again, bouncing on his toes and cheerily swinging his hands backwards and forwards by his sides. He smiled brightly when she appeared for really reals, and resisted the urge to help her brush the dust away, because sometimes people didn't like that apparently, even when you were only trying to help them.

"Hi! Who were you hiding from?" Was she playing hide and seek? Could Abey play too? Possibly actually maybe? It sounded a lot better than going back to his common room and doing homework.

Or, well, pretending to do homework.

Even with all the brushing, Hazel still had either a cobweb or some stringy dust stuck in her braid that she couldn't see. Not that it would have bothered the girl. "Wasn't hiding," she explained, rocking on her heels. "I was exploring."

Never mind that she'd gotten turned around again, something she was starting to get just a liiiiittle embarrassed about. She could find her way through every nook and cranny of the sanctuary back home, but parts of the castle still mystified her.

"What are you doing?"

"Ohhhhhhh." Well, that made sense, sort of, didn't it? Abey nodded, because he understood. Exploring, after all, was how he had found that little space the first time he ever did. Well, actually no. He found it because an older student told him where to look, but it still counted!

Oh... see, now, Abey had no problem with mess or anything, what with being a typical eleven-year-old boy, but he couldn't quite help himself actually from reaching out and plucking away that last little stringy bit of something from Hazel's hair.

Anyway, yes, carry on.

"I'm procrampstinading," Abey declared, repeating a word he had heard other older students say and sort of just assuming it was the one he wanted. And, just in case Hazel didn't know it (though she probably(?) did) he explained. "That means I don't want to do homework. So actually I'm doing everything else ever instead actually."

Hazel didn't know quite what Abey was doing and so flinched just ever so slightly when he reached for her hair. But as he was only picking out the stringy bit, she soon exhaled, relaxing a tension she didn't realize she'd added to her shoulders. "Thanks."

She tilted her head at the very long, somewhat funny word that he used. "Pro.. Pro...cramp..stinating... Procrampstinating." She rolled it over in her mouth the way she would an unfamiliar spell, finally making a 'bleh' face, with accompanying noise, sticking her tongue out as she did so. "That's a hard one. Is it fun to do?" The putting off of things you should do... like chores maybe... in favor of the fun stuff.. like climbing trees.

That sounded like a Hazel word, after all.

Abey nodded along as Hazel spoke, in a very wise and impressive way actually. Look at him! Sharing knowledge that other people didn't know! That never happened usually actually.

"Procrampsinating." He nodded. Yes, that was right. "Oh, it's SO fun! Because it means not doing anything you don't want to do, and doing something more fun instead!" And honestly, why would anyone want to do anything other than that? "So actually it's basically the greatest thing ever, right?"

In fact, now that Abey had the hang of it, he was going to work it into his schedule every single day actually. ALL day, if he could.

Abey was just so smart, Hazel thought. He should have been in Ravenclaw, maybe! The redhead just continued to smile as her friend explained the awesomeness that was procrampstinating.

"I like that idea," she said, thinking about all the fun things she could do. Was it the greatest thing ever? Probably not as far as Hazel was concerned, given how highly she rated finding a new animal friend. But it was pretty high up there.

"Can we go procrampstinate now?"

Were Abey a Legilimens, he might have pointed out that actually, the Hat had even mentioned Ravenclaw during his Sorting! Though Abey still didn't fully understand why because actually he knew for a fact that he really wasn't very smart at all, and that if you just said things with confidence then people tended to believe them. He WAS very interested in art and music, though, so maybe that was the Hat's thinking. Abey didn't know, because he'd spend the whole of his time sat on the stool trying to convince the mean old hat that he was supposed to be a Hufflepuff and nothing else, and it didn't even LISTEN to him. Sigh.

Anyway, all of that was irrelevant though actually, because Abey couldn't read or hear or feeeEEEEeeeEEEeEEeeeEeEEEEL Hazel's thoughts. Only her words. But her words were just as fun.

"Yes!" he replied, with great enthusiasm. From what he knew about avoiding homework with Théobore, procrampstinating was waaaaaay better with someone else. "What do you want to do?"

YES! Abey wanted to procrampstinate together! It excited the redhead and she could not keep herself from bouncing just a little in her shoes. But then he asked the next question and she settled quite quickly. What did she want to do?

"Ummm," she said, drawing it out and trying to buy some time to think. Procrampstinating was his idea! He knew how to do it! Why did sheeeeee need to be the one to have an idea. Oh no oh no, what if she did it wrong???

"I wanna do... whatever you were doing before you found me." Ha! There!
