As soon as the students had been given the opportunity to explore the castle, Olivia took her chance. The brunette, with her older brother's notebook in hand, followed Simon's directions and narrative around the tower. It was as if her brother was here giving her a private tour. After completing the first two floors of the castle, the young Lioness had made her way onto the third floor and had stumbled upon the entrance to the clock tower. Olivia glanced up, looking at the large swinging pendulum in front of her. "Wow," she said, staring at the intricate runes on it. She chuckled. No wonder her brother liked it. He had always loved runes. It was impressive to think that the Golden Trio had stood here and then her own brother had stood her many years ago.

Olivia glanced down at the notebook and read the next portion of the journal.

Here dearest sister you will find one of my favourite places in the whole school. I find this place incredibly calming in stressful situations. I'm sure that you will experience your own situations that you will need to seek guidance. I'd suggest this place or the Treehouse as a little hideaway from the craziness of Hogwarts. Though I'm sure you'll be fine because you're more outgoing than I am. Random question: Can you tell me what runes are there? Take a photo for me and enjoy.

Glancing up, she walked closer to the pendulum and tried to examine the runes.

Kay did like watching the pendulum swing. For some reason the Clock Tower was one of those places that she liked to visit when she wanted quiet time. Since today was one of those days, she made her way to it. Even though she was in the mood to be alone, a tiny part of her hoped that she'd run into some one. Maybe she could engage in a peaceful conversation.

She was pleased to find someone examining the pendulum when she got there.

Kay recognised her almost at once. "Hello there, Ms Holden. Are you trying to figure out the runic symbols?'' She herself had taken the time to examine them a bit before but had never made much progress. Ancient Runes had never her strongest subject.

She had flipped to a runic alphabet in her brother's notebook and had stared to figure out the runes when she heard her name. Olivia turned around to face the person. It was Professor Stewart. Her Muggle Studies Professor. What a pleasant surprise! She was impressed that the Professor recognized her. "Hello Professor Stewart!" she grinned. "I am. My brother went to Hogwarts and told me to come check out the runic symbols on the pendulum. I'm afraid I can't discern which rune is which as their pretty faded." She chuckled, knowing full well that she could learn about it in the future. She glanced back at the pendulum, squinting her eyes, trying to figure out the runes. It was a futile event.

She took a step away from the pendulum and turned to Professor Stewart. "How are you, Professor? Did you have a good summer?"

Which was quite sad as she was sure there was something interesting written there. "Perhaps there's something written in a book. I'll do some research about the runes.''

"Yes, I did! I spent a great deal of my time catching up with my muggle students as well as having outings with a few friends. But enough about me in case I bore you to death.'' Kay laughed softly. "How was yours? Are you ready to take on another year of school?''

Olivia shook her head in response to Professor Stewart's inquiry. "No, he was a Slytherin." In fact, she had been surprised that she had not ended up in the same house as Simon as they were both ambitious. However, Olivia was much more outgoing than her brother. "That's alright, Professor. Doing some research could give some interesting information. Maybe these runes protect Hogwarts?" She paused and then chuckled at her next thought. "Or then again, they could just be for decoration."

Kay gave her soft laugh. “I can only imagine! It’s fascinating that you two got into the Houses that had the biggest rivalry many years ago.’’ Then she nodded in agreement, making a mental note to ask Viktor for help about the runes if she failed to find out anything about them. Or perhaps Rose knew something about them. One way or the other, she would find out and get back to Olivia.

The Professor listened to all the details carefully and with even more excitement. “He’s a cruppy. How wonderful!’’ Crups were cute but cruppies were even cuter! They were to die for. “You and your family will need to keep those socks away from him now. Who’s taking care of him while you’re at Hogwarts?’’

“You could say that I am but I’ve never taken the time to follow it in detail. I just know about it vaguely. Maybe I ought to change that, don’t you think?’’

Gryffindor had a good reputation over the years and Slytherin.... Slytherin had a fascinating reputation. Sometimes good but mostly bad. Though this was all dependent on opinion.

She had done a little more reading about Hogwarts' history over the past few days. She had learned about the Golden Trio's relations with Slytherin. Olivia had been stunned to learn about the Slytherins in that time period and before. Though Slytherin must have changed since then (though there were probably some people good people back in those days).

"My older brother, Simon! He's brought him to his job at Beauxbatons." She was so proud of Simon. He would be an Assistant Professor there for this year and a couple more years. "I miss him but I know he's in good hands." She paused, missing both her crup and Simon. She would see them soon enough. They were probably both doing very, very well. "Do you have any siblings, Professor?"

Kay beamed. She had been certain there would have been a lot of curiosity about any relationship between her and Cami. “She’s great! As good as any sibling one could have. She certainly knows her Transfiguration and I’m glad you enjoy her classes.’’ The professor was feeling rather proud at the moment.

She listened with interest. “We have quite a bit of thing in common here, Ms Holden. I’ve read A Series of Unfortunate Events. Uncle Monty and the kids happen to be my favorite characters as well as the Count to an extent.’’ Lord of the Rings! “I am a fan of those two as well. Especially Lord of the Rings. I have a liking for Sam Gamgee and Sokka. By the way, should you ever feel the urge to watch any of those, the DVDs are kept in the Fun Room.’’

Okay, so it was REALLY cold today... not that the recent months hadn't all been cold here in lovely old Scotland, but today the chill seemed to hit all the way to Dora's core. Stopping in the entrance the Gryffindor pulled her wand and quickly cast a warming charm over herself before pulling her scarf tighter still. Sheesh. When was it ever going to be spring again?! Or summer. Sweet, sweet summer.

This made the blonde give a dreamy sigh before casting a glance around. Hmmm. What to do today?

November was really not the best time to be out there flying. Daisy knew that because her Mum had always said that. Well, not specifically about November, more about the winter months in general. Something about waiting for Spring to fly without a risk of catching a cold.

Still, Daisy didn't listen.

So she had been flying and she had made sure that she was fully covered. Winter jacket, gloves, scarf and beanie hat all shielding her from the cold, the Slytherin girl had taken the time off to take her broomstick for a spin. Or ... well, a flight?

Anyway.

She had been sitting on said broomstick by the entrance door, but not really entering the castle. Instead she was reading the Daily Prophet - well, the Quidditch section - floating about in her broomstick. It was a windy day, though. So, without her noticing, the broomstick started floating towards the inside of the castle....

.... wait, why could she see stone beneath her?

The fifth year finally looked up from the newspaper to find herself heading straight for a blonde girl. Sure, she was going slowly, but hey. "Duck, duck, duck, DUCK!!"

QUACK.

So she had NOT expected to see Daisy Carden on a broom... reading a newspaper when she ventured out into the cold, but upon hearing the word DUCK shouted so eagerly, she turned to see just that. If the Gryffindor had been a bit slower on the uptake, she would not have had time to draw her wand and shout. "DEPULSO!"

Okay... maybe she should have thought about that... or aimed better. Who knew if it was even going to have the desired effect?! She was cold and casting on a whim.

Sheesh. If she hurt Daisy she was going to cry. It was official. Dora was just waiting now.

And of course it was one of those split seconds that felt like a stinking eternity. Now. Braced for impact she just... waited.

So the blonde girl was a Gryffindor. And, most specifically, it was Dora Umbridge. With a wand. Right. Well, this didn't bode well. Daisy didn't really have time to do anything, even if everything appeared to be moving slower than usual. That would - of course - include her brain.

Otherwise she would've gotten her wand and cast a shield charm. Or jump off the broomstick. Heck, even lean away.

Instead she sat there, on her floating broomstick which was about to cause an accident, wide-eyed and with an open mouth, watching as Dora cast a spell in her direction.

And suddenly things started moving.

"UNF!" Daisy exclaimed as she felt herself being pushed backwards and fell off her broomstick even as it collided with the Gryffindor. SO ... good thing she hadn't been fully hit, eh? Laying on her back on the cold floor, though, the Slytherin quickly noticed that her newspaper was definitely gone.

So it had sacrificed itself. Bless his ... paper? HMMM.

WAIT. DORA!

"I'm sorry! Are you okay?" She asked the Gryffindor girl, sitting up on the floor.

So this was shaping up to be the crappiest term yet. Lost her snogging partner, got a concussion, broke someone's nose, and now she got smacked right in the FACE with a wild broomstick.

The eye to be specific.

In a show of dramatics, the blonde fell back and yelled out as she gripped her hand over her face. Daisy had better be glad that the Gryffindor had even thought about the spell before casting... usually she just set things on fire or blew things up. HOW ABOUT THAT DAISY CARDEN!?

"What in the name of all things Merlinian were you DOING? You have gone and blacked my eye with your broomstick!" Not that it was ACTUALLY the Slytherin girls fault that the broom had hit her there... and in hindsight, it could have been MUCH worse for the both of them. But hello.

Dora's were D R A M A T I c!

"Are you okay?" she added as an after thought. A LONG TIME AFTER.

Hmph.

So Dora was making a lot of noise. That was actually a thing that was happening. Which ... hmmm, probably wasn't a very good sign. Scrambling to her knees, the Slytherin girl rushed to Dora's side and worriedly counted her arms. And her legs. Her fingers, too, just to be on the safe side.

Wait. An eye?

"I'm sorry, Dora!" As far as she remembered she had never even spoken to the girl outside of classes and now there she was, apologising for HITTING HER WITH A BROOM! Although, to be fair, Dora had also hit her. Kinda. "It might not even bruise! And if it does, I'll give you my bruise removal paste and you'll be fine!" Promise, promise.

See, having a Mum for a Healer had its benefits.

After an ETERNITY - and they said Slytherins were selfish - Dora seemed to remember that she cast a Banishing Charm at Daisy and the Slytherin chuckled. "Yeah, I'm fine. The newspaper took most of the hit." It was probably in the Forbidden Forest by now or something.

Which was bad because Daisy still had some reading to do.

Of course she was making noise! Her face was mangled! What was UP with people throwing things at her head? A drink, a whole FISH, and now a broom... This term was officially STUPID. And she was OFFICIALLY OFFICIALLY dramatic.

In case anyone had ever missed the memo.

When Daisy came scrambling to her, Dora furrowed her brow, what could be seen of it since she was clutching her face in agony. "I am sure it is going to be blacked. It feels like it is swollen shut." Would Daisy check it to see? Was it bleeding? Was she going to be blind? This was agonizing.

Wait. THe NEWSPAPER.

That was it. That was what Dora had seen her doing. On a broom. What the heck? Moving her hand, but keeping her now swollen and already bruising eye clenched shut, Dora trained her eye on the Slytherin and gave a deadpan stare of epic proportions. Or as epic as it could be with one working eye. Sheesh.

"What in the name of Merlin possessed you to read the Prophet while on a broom? I mean, I am anti flying anyway, but that seems especially stupid." The action was stupid, not the person. Daisy actually seemed like a pretty smart cookie from what Dora had seen in classes. So why make an error such as this?

SIGH. Gryffindors were .... lovely people, really. BUT OH SO DRAMATIC. Their Common Room must be insane and not for the first time, the Slytherin girl wished she could take a peek inside. They were all probably hexing each other and then crying murder.

Like Dora was doing!!

"It's not swollen shut!" Daisy replied trying very, very hard not to roll her eyes. She couldn't roll her eyes at the Gryffindor's antics because she had been the one to hurt her. Nope, Daisy would take care of her. Squinting her own eyes, she leant closer and tried to get a closer look at the injured eye. Well, what she could see of it, anyway. EEEEK, it was pretty swollen. Oops. "It's just ... a bit swollen." And yeah, it would probably bruise. "I'll have a first year take the bruise removal paste to your Common Room."

And by that she meant she would bribe a first year. But oh well.

Oh. When Dora got that serious look on her face, Daisy leant away from her and tried to distractedly scoot away aswell. She did not like that face, okay? Apparently, she was right not to. "I went flying and I stole found the newspaper. I just wasn't counting in the wind factor, that's all." Or the open door, for that matter. Honestly, it was NOVEMBER! Who left the door open?!

"What do you mean you're anti-flying?!" The Slytherin suddenly asked, seemingly only just understand Dora's words. She stared at the younger girl, one hand clutching her chest in horror.

WHAT?!

TWO POINTS? HAD THE PROFESSOR JUST SAID TWO POINTS? Wow. That was.. incredible. Woah. Take that Simon! She wondered if her brother had earned any extra points during his free time? She'd have to certainly write to him and gloat a little. Hehe. "Thank you, Professor," she said with widened eyes and a large grin. Wow. Extra points. She still hadn't gotten over that. Too bad what happened to him..." she sighed. She had always hoped that Uncle Monty would have been able to stay with the kids longer; however, the name of the story was a Series of Unfortunate Events so that was a rather naive thought on her end. Le sigh. At the mention of Count Olaf, Olivia laughed. "He's a character that you love to hate, I suppose?" You couldn't have the series without him. That man certainly had ambition. There was no doubt about that in her mind. "The Fun Room? Where's that?" she asked, having never visited there before. If they had THOSE series in there, that would become her new favourite place in ALL of Hogwarts.

Katherine had been thinking about the older boy's 'There are many other peaceful places,' statement, and she had finally come to the conclusion that this place was one of them. It had everything: Away from the 'hot spots' of the castle, was very enjoyable to watch the clock and even had runes to keep her Ravenclaw mind busy. So she came here with a small cushion to keep herself comfortable and warm while sitting on the stone and a notebook to write down her thoughts, a habit she gained last year.

Kay could see the how happy those two points made Olivia. She loved seeing the students that way when they were rewarded. “You’re welcome, Ms Holden. They’re well deserved.’’ She nodded a little at the question. “I would say there is certainly not as much as there was so many years ago. Based on my observations, the other three Houses get along much more with Slytherin now.’’ She smiled reassuringly. There was no need for Olivia to be worried about this.

The Professor winked, her eyes twinkling. “You’ll find out soon enough. I hope you’ll enjoy what I have planned for this year.’’

“Yes, that was very sad. The three kids would have such a good life with him.’’ She nodded, agreeing. “That’s a wonderful way to put that. There wouldn’t be a story without Olaf, after all. There are some villains that we just cannot hate.’’

Sam, too, was a fan of quiet, peaceful places. Crowds had never exactly been his thing. And right now, the Gryffindor common room, as well as his dorm, was too busy for his liking at the moment. He neared the clock tower entrance with his latest novel under his arm, but his footsteps slowed as he noticed that there was someone there before him.
