The Playground

Looking for a spot to unleash that inner child of yours or perhaps to keep yourself in shape? This is definitely the place to go. Slides, monkey bars, swings, a see-saw, jungle gym, and even a pole with a tether ball attached is in place ready to be played with. You may also take a seat in the sand that surrounds all the equipment and build a castle. Not to worry though, there's minimal risk of injury here as a cushion charm was placed on the ground.

The first week back at school and it already felt as stuffy as ever inside the castle. As soon as he could, Lance dragged his feet out to the grounds for some fresh air and maybe clear his mind of negativity which was easier said than done. Although, his pace picked up a little bit when he noticed the playground was deserted and the swings were open.

One of those was his.

Being outdoors was the best place to be, in Olly's opinion. He didn't care if it was cold or hot, raining or not, he just liked to be outside. He was lucky that Hogwarts' grounds were so extensive, and there was usually no shortage of ways to entertain himself. Though he was typically very easily entertained.

Olly had not been back at the castle very long before he headed out to the grounds. He never really had a specific end goal in mind, he just went wherever grabbed his interest. And today he was interested in the playground. Maybe the monkey bars or the slide or the swings. He was one of the only students around so he could choose from any of the options. After a moment of consideration he decided on the swings and plopped himself down in an empty one. And of course he smiled at the other boy before starting to swing.

Not one who preferred to be indoors to begin with, Paige made her way outside with no real destination in mind, Neville the Norandula tucked under her arm for a bit of natural sunlight. Usually she would head down to the lake, slip off her shoes, and walk along the bank as the water gently lapped against her feet...but today the fates had brought her here...and she was not sure why.

Although perhaps the presence of a younger Gryffindor and Slytherin would turn out to be the reason.

"Hello," she greeted both with a small wave as she moved closer. Merlin she hadn't been on swings...or any sort of equipment like this in a long while.

It seemed as though no sooner had he sat down on the swing and began swaying some did someone show up. The tops of his shoes dragged against the grass as he looked up to who had claimed the second swing. Apparently he was destined to meet all kinds of Slytherins this term. There may have been internal sighing happening. The previous Slytherin he'd met wasn't exactly... warmhearted.

With a nod, he hesitantly smiled back.

The older girl he was prepared for, having seen her walking up now that he was alert. He stopped swaying on the swing, wrapping his arms around the chains and giving a little wave in return to her. Maybe he snagged his place on the playground just in time.

"Hello." General greeting out there. For both of them.

Not long after Olly had began his swinging, another person neared the playground. He didn't know her either, though of course he could vaguely recognize both of them as Hogwarts students he'd seen in classes and just around. But he'd never met either of them and didn't even know their names.

"Hello," he said in greeting to both of them when the girl came closer. And, because he didn't know their names which meant they probably didn't know his either, he thought it would probably be best to introduce himself. That would be how one makes friends. "I'm Oliver," he offered.

"Paige Skeeter," she replied, offering her hand to Oliver as she had become accustomed to during her internship and accompanying interviews. It was just something she naturally slipped into when presented with potentially awkward first impressions which, given the fact that all three of them had uttered nothing more than the same single word, this certainly was.

"And you're...Lancelot, right?" she said as she turned to the Gryffindor, feeling slightly more familiar with him from observations and the few times they had worked together on projects for Professor Flamsteed.

Her blues eyes wandered curiously to the pole with a ball attached. "Do...either of you know what that is?"

"Yea, though Lance is fine," he said, knowing his name was a bit of a mouthful, but surprised she remembered him. Goodness only Merlin knew how many names he'd forgotten over the years and just over the summer. Especially this last summer.

A grin broke out upon his face as his gaze shifted to the object that caught Paige's attention. "You hit it," he stood, a bit eager to try it out since no one else was around. "I've... never played, but I've seen others play it. First one to wrap the ball around the pole wins." Taking the ball attached to the pole, he weighed it in his hands before glancing up to the two of them.

"Either of you wanna play?"

"Hi Paige." He had to repeat her name to better help him remember it. He would probably be able to, at least for the duration of their interaction. There was no guarantee that he would remember it later, but that was yet to be determined. And he could not shake her hand because he was currently swinging. Olly was watching where she moved to make sure he did not kick her, but he also knew that she was most likely smart enough to avoid getting hit by a swinging person.

"Your name is Lancelot?" He looked at the boy on the swing next to him. "That is so cool." Probably one of the coolest names he had ever heard. Why couldn't Olly have a name that cool?

He didn't have anything to contribute immediately to the discussion of that game. He had never played it, and did not even know what it as called. Sure he had seen one before but he had never really put much thought into it. But now that Lancelot explained it a bit, it did sound pretty cool. Olly waited until his swing swung back up before jumping off and managing to land on his feet not far from the other two. "Yeah, I'll play!"

"Lance then," she nodded, since he seemed to prefer being called by that. Although she did not mind using full names - she often times preferred it really.

Lancelot and Oliver. She would commit those to memory. Hopefully.

Pursing her lips, Paige took a step towards the pole and eyed it curiously. "Seems simple enough," she mused. "Count me in as well." Cue some more staring at the pole and ball. "Can you play with three people at a time?" She was mostly looking to Lance since he seemed to be the one more in the know at the moment.

His ears burned from the compliment.

"Thanks."

Watching that pretty awesome jump Oliver made, he subconsciously rubbed his ear while glancing between the two of them. COULD they play with three people at a time? He had no idea. He'd only seen two people play. "I dunno," he said, moving to rub the back of his neck. "Maybe... you two... against me?" Maybe?

Alex loved the out doors. As soon as Alex could he went to the play ground, o other kids were here well that changed every thing. Maybe he should go back, no he was going to by brave. Alex walks up hi I am Alex.

Can I play to Alex asked.

Ash/Junia and anyone else

Okay...so she was pretty stoked to head outside to the playground. Yes, it was childish. Yes, it was cold out. No, she didn't care. BAM! She was smiling to herself as she made her way across the grounds and rushed to drop her bum into a swing!

All was right in her world... at the moment at least. And there was nothing like some good old PLAYING to brighten her mood even more. Heheh.

Dora's hair flew out behind her as she pushed and pulled her body on the swing. Forcing it higher and higher she felt that familiar rush. That one that felt like any moment you were going to blast off into the sky? Like you would suddenly fly free of the set and take flight. Her eyes shut, giggles erupting, she pushed higher still.

Sneakeh Cat 09-16-2016 12:02 AM

For Sarah!

It was cold outside, but Juliette McDean would rather be outside in the cold than be inside where it was stuffy. She enjoyed the people here, she really did, but there was a part of her that wanted away from the hustle and bustle. She wanted moments like she had when she was homeschooled where she could be away from everything and just think. It was hard to find time to do that in a school full of people who always seemed to be going somewhere.

She walked out to the playground; her hands stuffed deep down into the pockets of her robes. When she saw an open swing, she bee-lined right towards it and took a seat.

This is what she wanted. Peace and quiet.

Olly still did not really understand the concept of the game, but it seemed like it shouldn't be all too complicated once they actually started playing. At least, he hoped not. He was a competitive person and he didn't like to lose. But he supposed it wouldn't be too bad if he lost a game that he had never even heard of before.

If the game wasn't meant for three players that might be a problem. Two against one didn't really seem fair, even if none of them had played before. "We could do it sort of tournament style," he suggested. "Two can play at a time and then the third plays the winner? You two can go first, if we want to do it that way." He shrugged. However they played didn't really matter to him, he was just trying to make it fair.

The air was cool and crisp and it made Junia want to curl up and drink hot chocolate by the fire place, mostly. Unfortunately, the common room was much too crowded for her liking at the moment and so she settled for a walk instead. It wasn't too long before the sound of laughter caught her attention and curious as ever, the second year turned towards the noise. Someone was sure enjoying themselves.

She didn't immediately recognize the older girl, a blur of hair and legs as she went up and back again on the swing, but as she got closer, Junia figured it out. "Hello Dora," She called. Dora who was her sister's friend but also Dora who'd made Astrea terribly upset. Junia didn't know who Dora was to her just yet. She hadn't decided.

Over her laughter she heard her name. Which was saying something because between the wind whistling in her ears and that, she thought she was shutting the whole world out. Stopping kicking she looked down and smiled. It was Junia. It was true, they weren't exactly friends, but she liked the younger girl well enough. Having no clue that Astrea told others about their encounter, she simply beamed and slowed herself down more.

"Hey Junia! You should swing with me! It's loads of fun!" And her dad had told her to try and have fun some this term. F U N. She thought that was impossible after her nightmarish summer and falling ill as soon as term started. Stupid magical bug!

Paige was...just going to take Lancelot's word for it on how to play, although the two against one seemed like it would end up a rather lopsided game...not to mention she could already see the potential for heads to knock into one another if it was truly meant to be a two person game. She honestly hadn't a clue but it seemed not to be the case.

"I think we ought to go with Oliver's suggestion," she nodded. All of it really. She was not the most athletic and would surely fall the first round regardless which left the two boys to duke it out for the championship. Although she was surveying the area a little bit, particularly the large circle around the pole. "Or...we could divide that," she added, pointing to the ground. "Into thirds rather than halves? All we would need to do is paint new lines on the ground with a bit of magic. Could remove it once we are done...that way no one has to wait."

Slowly, she kicked off and started to pump her legs. She didn't go too fast at first, easing into the motion.

Dora smiled back at Junia as she settled into the swing next to her. She was a sweet kid. And she quite enjoyed when anyone did what she wanted to do! Like now. Swinging. Hehe.

The blonde girl began to pump her legs hard again. She had been about to enter another dimension, she was sure of that. Maybe Junia could join her. Hehe. "Oh nah. I was just laughing because I was having fun." That wasn't entirely true... she had been THINKING of things, but they were fun things about swinging, no?

"So do you think we could like swing ALL THE WAY around? Like over the top bar and stay in the swing seat?" That was kind of what she had been imagining after all... as childish as it was.

It was definitely getting colder outside, it was a good thing that Kat loved her sweaters she was wearing her favorite out today. She had spent the morning picking flowers and working on homework in the treehouse, Heating charms, yeah those were great. She could still do her homework in the tree house and NOT freeze, Thought she did love the cold weather.

On her way back to the castle she noticed that the playground wasn't as crowded as normal and there were a few swings open. So Katerina being Katerina decided that she would go swing. The child is a 5 year old trapped in a 13 year old body. She plopped down in the swing beside a fellow hufflepuff. One of Brady's friends she thought, "Hey, you're friends with my best friend Brady, Right?" Pushing off and swinging herself.

ALL the way around? Junia's eyes widened slightly, picturing such a thing. Seemed like a good way to end up in the hospital wing, honestly.

"Maybe if you glued your bum to the seat first." Her expression was thoughtful as she began to pump her legs harder, picking up speed. "That way you wouldn't fall off the swing when you went upside down." That was the only way she'd ever try it.

"You think anyone has ever tried it before?" Without breaking something, she meant.

Juliette was slowly swinging back and forth, keeping her feet on the ground as she did so. She glanced around the playground as she people watched. It was about to be that time of the year when she needed to decide whether she was going home for Christmas or not, and she needed decide when she would visit her father and when she would visit her mother. It was not easy having parents that lived in two different cities that were miles and miles away from each other. If she could have one wish, it would be to have one more Christmas as a family, which she knew would never happen.

She turned her head when she heard a voice close by. Oh! It was... um... "Kat, right?" She had never personally had a conversation with the other Hufflepuff, but she knew about her from Brady and from seeing her around school. "I am, yes. I'm Juliette. It's nice to finally talk with you." She smiled. "Enjoying this weather?" lol, small talk. She was bad at this making friends thing.

Katerina wasn't sure if Juliette knew who she was or not. She nodded and beamed, "Yes, I'm Katerina." hehe Brady DID love her, right? if his other friends knew who she was. Sure Brady and her had been friends still birth and they did have a few of the some mutual friends but for the most part they had a totally different group of friends. Oh yes she was talking to her.

"Yes, I do actually." Katerina did love the cold weather, snow, rain, she loved it. The normal weather that most people hated, she thrived with it. "What about you. Do you like this weather?" Pushing herself higher in the swing.

There were plenty of fun places at Hogwarts, for sure, but Xavieria was almost positive that the playground was one of her most favorite. Even though it was chilly and cold outside, she bundled herself up and skipped down to have a little play time. "Oh! Free swing!" That was a SCORE!

Xavvie jumped up on to the swing and started pumping her legs enthusiastically. Even though her dad usually pushed her, she was far old enough now to get herself pretty high on her own, and well, a girl never really outgrows a good swing, right?
