Come send a note or letter using your own owl or any of the school owls. Owls line the walls in nooks and on branches. Pellets, old animal skeletons, and belladonna berries are on the floor.
There are a few pieces of parchment, a ragged quill, and a dried-up bottle of ink on an old wooden desk in the corner should you need to add a postscript to your letter.
Can you (please) send me a subscription to the Daily Prophet? I wanna stay in the loop. Classes are okay so far, students have been shrinking and aging all over the place! Okay, only in class, but it all seems fun. Mum I found the music room and I'm thinking about using it once in awhile... but I don't like having to go up all those steps! Am I allowed to use magic to get up there or something? Didn't you say something about passageways between floors? Please let me know..

In the hubbub of first lessons, Kye almost forgot to send a letter to her parents that she even got to Hogwarts. There wasn't much she needed to tell them, but she knew they would be very displeased if she didn't even write hello to them in the first week. Kye rolled up her letter and made her way to the Owlery. She sometimes wished that she had an owl as well as Edie, but she didn't want to be responsible for one to be honest.
Arriving at near the highest point at Hogwarts, Kye looked around at the owls fluttering away in the little room. Some seemed to be facing the other way purposefully, some looked tired, and some were clearly owned by someone. She chose a tawny owl near her and attached the parchment to its leg. There.
SHE FOUND IT! Despite it being probably the farthest point of the castle from the Hufflepuff common room, Isabella had managed to find the Owlery. Huffing and puffing from climbing up the steps, she leaned against a dirty old desk before trying to get an owl to mail her letter. Whew. Her mother would be so proud of her for making it through the week. Having caught her breath, she went to gingerly approach an owl, patting her pockets until she remembered which pocket she had put her letter in.
Isabella pulled the slightly wrinkled piece of parchment out of her pocket and opened it so she could double-check what she had written. No spelling errors, no bad grammar... and she hadn't forgotten anything, at least not from her quick glance. Right. Her brothers and parents would be pleased to hear from her, and she had only said good things. Yes, it was a good letter home.

Dear Mama and Papa,
I am a Hufflepuff now! Everybody is so nice in Hufflepuff! I am already friends with the other first year girls who I share a dorm room with. I've gotten lost several times, but people help me get un-lost eventually. I went to all my classes. They were fine.

Dear Paul, Gabe, and Raf-
Hogwarts is so excellent! The ceiling of the great hall is enchanted, it looks like the sky! When I first got here, I thought it was made of stars. Did you know there is a hidden swimming pool? I haven't found it yet, but a professor told me about it, so some day I will find it!
I have not been able to fly at all, since (as you know) first years don't get to bring their brooms. I will write again soon with more exciting news! I haven't really accomplished anything but going to class so far.

Satisfied with her letter and after letting the postscript dry, Isabella smoothed the parchment as best she could and folded it up. She spotted an attentive-looking brown owl, timidly attached her letter to its leg, and watched it fly away. She couldn't wait to get mail from her parents' reply! Hopefully the letter would come at breakfast so she could get mail in the great hall with all the other students.
Sighing contentedly, Isabella returned her quill to her pocket and headed back down the Owlery stairs.

Still unable to process what had arrived via snail mail over the holidays, the Astronomy professor had finally found a moment between lesson work, Head of House duties, and juggling some Astronomer Royal duties to sit down with his schedule and find himself an open weekend. Well, open was not the proper term, more like a weekend that he could spare away from the castle. Assuming St. Mungo's could fit him in so last minute.
Checking over the contents of his letter once more, Airey gave his sundial watch a cursory glance and then proceeded to select one of the school owls to accomplish the task. A Great Horned Owl, to be precise. He had read somewhere or overheard someone saying that they were the fastest sorts of owls. Probably something he should have confirmed on his own given his lack of creature knowledge. Oh well. Too late now.
Attaching the letter to the owl's leg, he cleared his throat. "St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries," he instructed. "Warp 10+ so you arrive yesterday...or a week ago...or last month."
You know, whatever got the owl there FAST.
And then he released the owl, watching it fly off into the distance with Pebbles waiting dutifully by his right foot and pink leash strung around his wrist .
