Welcome to your third duel!

This is a key stepping stone into determining your placement in the Curse Tournament so please take this seriously. A list of spells to use can be found HERE while the cost of physical actions can be found below.

A referee (either Professor Airey or Professor Hirsch) will be present to oversee the duels and will only interfere if the duel ends or any foul play or unsportsmanship-like behaviour is displayed.

Please remember to adhere to the Dueling Club rules, the DADA rules as well as the SS Site rules.

OOC: This duel must be completed by the 21st of July by 11:59pm GMT+1/BST. You're required to make a minimum of 3 posts each in that time.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting me about them or posting them in the Dueling Club Rules thread. If you don't think you can post during that time or you don't think you can start/finish your duel, please let me know as soon as possible and we'll try and work something out.

Please note that you do NOT need to keep a note of any points used, gained or lost during this duel. Simply carry out the RPG process as normal.

Also remember to be as realistic as possible with your charrie's age and ability.

First person mentioned in the thread title is the first person to start off the duel.

This would be awesome for so many reasons.

1) HE WAS DUELING AN~~OTHER~~ AUROR
2) It was Genevieve aka VIVI BRANXTON... uh, James.
3) She worked for his Mum! (unique bonus)
4) She was married to MAXIMUS JAMES, only the best Keeper for the best team, EVER...

And despite knowing he was going to get creamed in this duel, he was looking forward to the lessons he would learn from this experience. At least it wouldn't be a complete shock to his system, he'd had plenty of practice at losing to professionals already... all part of his training of course.

His preparations were conducted in his usual manner, regimented, each action completed with care. His wand was polished, dueling uniform checked, pressed and worn with pride. He was ready, or as ready as he was ever going to be. When Zeke stepped out into the arena to face his opponent, he couldn't help but do it with a grin. Exciting, wasn't it?

Hazel eyes locking on his superior opponent Zeke couldn't help but wonder how well she remembered him, or if his mum had said anything about this duel or him at all... like, did she know she'd be dueling HIM? Did she know he was a two-time champ? Had this opportunity presented itself three or four years ago (before he knew any better), he might have been tempted to threaten the security of her job what with his obvious 'connections', but he wasn't a child anymore... and furthermore, he didn't want his mummy doing him any favours anyway.

"Auror James, good to see you... again," he greeted opting for formality as he bowed respectfully in her direction, prior to taking his place at one side of the arena - wand poised. Dueling his peers was one thing, and some of them were quite good, but this... this would stretch him. Strategy was key.

It was show time.

He'd learned early that a good start was always helpful, and to give himself a fighting chance he opted to do just that - start well. Stating the incantation clearly but quickly Zeke cast the Disillsionment Charm on himself before then casting the Arrow-Shooting Spell toward Vivi hoping it would be distraction enough to allow him some advantage however limited that might be. He'd need a better position if he was going to make an impact.

Aw, it was Emily's sprog. He'd gotten quite big, taller than Vivi now, but he was still Emily's sprog. Vivi grinned at Zeke and measured him with her gaze. He'd do. Probably put up a good fight, and if she wasn't careful, he'd blast a hole in her head and she'd have to wear a hat for the rest of her life.

"Mr. Browne. It's my pleasure to roundly thrash you. Try not to get me in trouble with your mother," she winked at him before slipping her wand out of her holster. Just a polite bow, take her stance, and...

Where'd he GO? Just like that, he was going to duel her as a bit of shadow and unruly hair? Nope. First thing was to negate the effect of that particular bit of spellwork and make Zeke visible again. She ducked the arrows, rather than wasting effort on shielding herself, before casting a dense smoke spell. "Fumos." It created a shadow of her opponent and obscured Vivi just as well.

Now for some fun. "Tarantallegra."

He loved Aurors, they were good value. Hilarious really. Vivi's remark had resulted in a stifled chuckle on his part. As long as he didn't lose limbs or eyes he was sure his mum would be okay with the so called thrashing he was about to receive.

For a brief moment - SUPER brief really - he was confident that he might have a shot at getting in some early knocks. But as he moved to the side for a better angle of attack, the Auror's smokescreen took him by surprise. He didn't think she'd go that route...

Merlin.

In an effort to negate the impact of the smoke, Zeke thrust his wand in front of him in line with the shadowy figure of his opponent and cast "Ventus Duo!" hoping for two birds with one stone. Was she blown away by his efforts? Heh. It was as he'd done so that he was hit by a flash of green light from her end of the arena... and he was dancing.

Wand hand unsteady he opted to first send an offensive spell at Vivi, an attempt to not keep her waiting for him (or sending more spells of her own his way). "Everte Statum Persequoris," he cast, using the homing spell to help himself find his target. Confident with his actions, his next move was to counter the effects of the blasted jinx. He didn't much MIND dancing... but THIS was not his style. A quick but careful Finite took care of that.

His wind spell was charming, and Vivi couldn't help but grin in his general direction as the wind blew back her hair and dissipated her smoke. She knew where he was now, mostly, because of the directionality of his casting and because of the wild sound of feet hitting the floor over and over.

To be fair, a dancing spell was handy in a duel like this, but she'd never use it in a face off on the street. A Dark Wizard wouldn't hesitate to cast an Unforgivable while Vivi was messing around with a silly jinx.

But currently... it made her LAUGH. The curse that blew her back off her feet did not make Vivi laugh, but she merely scrambled to her feet and pointed her wand again. She swore quietly to herself, since the lack of scrambling feet meant that Zeke was no longer dancing to death... and was much harder to find.

She swore again before casting a quicksand charm over the entire floor near where she assumed Zeke's feet were resting. "Orbis!" Gotta keep him still long enough to issue that thrashing.

It was cute that she was laughing, truly it was... but it bruised his ego somewhat. This was relatively short-lived however, because seeing her knocked off her feet was incredibly satisfying. She was quick to recover though... perhaps too quick.

He knew he had to move, and move with relative silence. At least now he was in control of his own feet, which managed to lead him slightly out of the way of where he had been just previous. Fat lot of good that did him. Vivi's next move had HIM scrambling to get out of the way, but with the floor turning to mush around him he couldn't take chances. THIS WAS LIFE OR DEATH... so to speak. Like. She was an AUROR.

"Mobilicorpus," he cast on himself, causing him to levitate off the floor.

This was better than being sucked into the floor, by a long shot... but it came with its own disadvantages. Deciding that another distraction for the Auror would be advantageous to him (hopefully... maybe), Zeke cast the Scorching Spell in her direction.

So... Zeke was so obviously Emily's kid. Quick on his feet, relentless, and definitely driven to win. And not put off by her laughing like a loon at his misfortune. It was disappointing that he overcame the quicksand so easily, but there was also grudging respect for him.

"Protego," Vivi threw up a quick shield to avoid the scorching heat wave heading toward her. She liked her eyebrows, kthx. And also the skin on her face. And also this was a new blouse. Rotten Browne.

She really hoped his success in taking her down earlier didn't go to his head. Imagine a Browne with a big head... he wouldn't be able to get out the door. He'd wobble and fall over. Which, honestly, would be hilarious. Decision made! "Engorgio Skullus!"

Take that, baby big head.

This was another one of the duels that he was sure would thoroughly help the student dueller, simply because they had expressed an interest in learning more in the world of Defence. So, why not put him up against an Auror? Surely, his mum would be pleased if he came out of this in good spirits?

Here's hoping.

The man had a lot of confidence in Zeke Browne, whether the boy knew it or not, so he wasn't all that fussed with this duel. He could stand back and watch it unfold. As glad as he was that Miss James was putting Zeke through his paces, he was also glad that the boy wasn't backing down anytime soon. It wasn't in his nature, was it? Good. Really.

And, all too soon, the duel had to come to a close. Which was a shame, really, because the man had been looking forward to seeing how the young Gryffindor would react to more spells shot by the Auror. The familiar shield was shot up and Hirsch moved out into the open. "Brilliant! Really, that was an excellent duel," he said, smiling at the two of them, "Thank you for your time, Miss James. I appreciate you coming in to give Zeke a challenge." And how did he fare? Hm?

As for the young boy, did he notice the proud smile on Hirsch's face? "Well done! I hope this helped you to pick up some more tips that you could use."
