Hadley was on time this time, and practically brimming over with excitement and eagerness. She'd spent all of last year wanting to face off with Mossy, back when Mossy hated her, and Hadley had something to prove. Now they were friends, but that didn't really lessen Hadley's desire to duel Mossy.
This was going to be a good duel. She could feel it.
With her game face on, Hads stepped onto the dueling stage, and bowed, first to Sir Knight and then to Katherine Moss. "Just to let you know, Mossy, I'm in this to win. Ready?"
She raised her wand with lightning speed and aimed it at Mossy's wand. "Expelliarmus!" Then in rapid quick succession, she fired another spell. "Everte Statum!"

...no, Katherine Moss hadn't looked forward to this at all for the last few months (ever since her mother told her to stay away from Haddie despite their friendship). In fact, she wished was facing anyone but Haddie. The girl was probably going to think this was a game or something, a friendly competition; whereas if Katherine lost, her mother would be very displeased. And Katherine could feel that she was going to lose.
Well...
"We'll see about that," she just said, bowed at the same time and yelled "Protego!" in response to her attacking spell. She always had her shield up first, always, ever since that crazy Olivia tried to burn her alive. She didn't even pause for a breath - once the shield was up, she yelled "Titillando!" as she side-stepped to avoid the second spell. Could her shield hold on for that one as well? Probably, but for the first time in her life, Katherine didn't trust her shield, for her mind really wasn't into duelling.

"Protego!" There was no way she was gonna be disarmed by her own Expelliarmus. But that didn't give Hadley enough time to react properly to Mossy's second spell and it hit her in her right arm. The feeling of feathery fingers spread across Hadley's torso, doubling her over in a fit of giggles. Hadley squirmed under the sensation, as she tried to shuck off the feeling or at the very least tried to keep from falling over from it.
Finally the spell came to an end, or rather, weakened enough for Hadley to ignore. She smiled, partially due to the lingering sense of being tickled and partially due to the thrill of dueling Mossy. As far as Hadley could tell they were both equally matched. This was gonna be a good battle. "Colloshoo!" Hadley followed this up with, "Furnunculus!"

Katherine allowed herself to smile a little, but she didn't just stand there to watch her opponent. No, on the contrary - she got ready to duck. Wait for it - NOW WAS THE TIME AND SHE DUCKED while she also expertly AIMED at Haddie.
"Silencio!"
This was THE spell to end the duel and restore her honour in front of her mother's eyes -
In her distraction, she completely missed Haddie's second spell, so she was HIT with Furnunculus. That spell which caused boils all over. Although Haddie's must have been a weak jinx, it still was.

Her colloshoo didn't hit, unfortunately, but there was a bit of satisfaction in seeing the boils spread across Mossy's skin. Just a tiny bit. More than that, seeing how flustered it made Moss was one of the most encouraging things yet. If battles really are won in the mind, then it's highly possible that Hadley just won this duel.
Or not.
It seemed Katherine was out to end this duel fast.
Hads rolled, feeling the rush of the spell as it zipped over her. As she came out of the roll she readied herself to cast a shield charm, but no second spell came at her. Huh. Mossy was too focused on ridding herself of those boils. A perfect opening. "Everte Statum! Incarcerous!" The two spells were fired off in quick succession. Knock Mossy off her feet and bind her up in ropes while she was distracted. That was the plan at least. Or at least get her with the second spell before she could recover from the blocking or dodging the first. That was the hope at least.

Haddie was still there. And casting a spell. And Katherine was completely unprepared. And she was hit. Her wand flew away, and before she could properly fall, she was hit again - no, she wasn't hit, she was tied.
Deep breaths. You're out in the open, you'renot being suffocated, you're just tied, it's okay, the professor will be here soon, it's okay...
However, if anyone looked at her closely for one second, they would see that her face was getting redder with every second and she was having trouble with breathing, even though the ropes weren't that tight.
She wanted to get out - out of this arena, castle, land.
Hadley blinked. Once. Twice. It worked! It really worked! "Yes!" she jumped as high as she could, fist pumping in the air. Wait...
Wasn't that Mossy's wand that went flying out of her hand? Hadley had disarmed her? She won?
"YES!" She leapt in the air, cheering once again as she started to make her way down the dueling platform to Mossy.
Whoa. Mossy was not looking good. Hadley hadn't hit her that hard with the knockback jinx had she? She didn't think so. "Um, hi." She lifted her wand and aimed it at the ropes binding Katherine. "Deletrius!" Immediately, the ropes began to disintegrate into dust, freeing her dorm mate. Hads held out her hand to help Mossy up. "Sorry."

Do you hear that? That was the sound of determination in the air.
And if there was one thing that made duels even better, it was determination. Hirsch loved it. To him, a dueller who was determined to give it their all was equivalent to a student who was enthusiastic about the subject he taught. Both were great to see and both of the girls here had that determination in them.
So, he watched as spells flew past and clever dodges were made. It made the man smile, really. It probably one of the most intense duels he'd had to watch or take part in but it was clear to him that both girls wanted to win this and that was something he very much liked to see-
..........
..................
NO!
Oh no oh no oh no!
The smile was gone, along with any colour that had been in his face. Hirsch hurried forwards towards Miss Moss, not caring to strike up that shield. There was no use for it now, was there? Not when this was happening. Heart palpitations were happening at the sight of the girl's red face and her lack of breathing. It was probably a good thing Haddie had taken off the ropes, then. Had they been secured on that tightly?
"It's okay, Miss Moss, you're okay now," Taking out his wand, he drew a circle in the air and conjured up a small goblet, much like the ones you'd find in the Great Hall. This was then filled up with water and held out towards the young Ravenclaw. "Here, drink up, it'll help." Pity he didn't have any chocolate on him right now. Maybe there were some in his office? "How do you feel?"
And no, he wasn't going to announce the winner just now.
