Hadley Denaker had the compartment to herself, and had since the Hogwarts Express had shown up. One of the perks of getting to King's Cross at 4:34 am, well before even the train had arrived. The other perks included having nothing to eat but mustard and a bag of pretzels, and being dead tired. So it was no surprise that she was stretched out on the seat, her back resting against the window, completely passed out. She had headphones over her ears, and her head was angled toward the back of the seat, a little bit of drool collecting on her shoulder. Asher, her ash colored ferret, was curled up in the crook of her arm, also sound asleep.

They had been that way for the last hour or so.

Hads chose the compartment she was in with purpose: The front of the train was likely the last place her friends would think to look for her. She was avoiding them. As much as she wanted to see them, she was also dreading it. Dreading the questions of where she'd been all summer, and having to answer them. She didn't want to face them or the questions just yet. And so, Hadley was hiding without actually hiding.

So hiding hadn't worked quite the way he thought it would but he supposed he should have known better. With his dumb luck of course he'd get caught and of course he'd get a final, stern word before his father all but escorted him onto the train. If he'd known it would have ended so shoddily, the Third Year would have saved himself the humiliation and boarded the Express in peace. Sometimes surrender was the only way.

Dejected by the prospect of yet another year of school, all Blaise could manage was dumping his luggage then finding himself an empty compartment with his most sullen expression. The boy sat facing the window, hugging his knees and watching as the train took him further and further from where he wanted to be.

His quill lazed about, floating over his shoulder but otherwise dormant from a lack of a captivating subjects to distort.

Was it June yet?

What's up new and old Hogwarts people? It was his SIXTH YEAR. Yeah, SIIIXTH YEEEAR and Hugo was ready for it. Or maybe not but the first day was always excited. Mhm. Hugo was wearing the shiny badge which indicated he was still the Slytherin prefect and that meant he was part of the authority of the school and everyone had to respect him. Ahem.

He waved goodbye to his family and boarded the train, once again. His summer had been pretty interesting, lots of fun and relaxing, visiting people and hanging out. Everything had been good. Or at least he thought so. Hugo was looking for Dante and stepped into the first compartment he saw, he opened the door and there was a boy in there already who was not Dante BUT did recognized.

Blaise.

Melbourne Johanson had already picked up the necessary items for the trip to school…well, she’d doubled down on things because of course she knew Had needed things. That was what best friends were for wasn’t it? She had popped her head into almost all of the compartments when she saw her sleeping.

Mel had just come back from the mini-trip to visit her grandparents in Kaikoura New Zealand where they were vacationing…really; it was weird going from summer to the end of winter and back to the end of summer again. So weird.

Stopping next to her sleeping friend Mel placed a can of what had to be the best energy thing ever. V. Seriously she was addicted to the stuff, it made her brain sing happy little hyper thoughts whenever she had it. “I brought you some caffeine Hads,” she spoke poking her friend in the shoulder lightly as she spoke. “And food…there’s bagels and I even brought chocolate frogs and candies if you want some” she smiled at her and gave her own ferret a little pat before sitting down herself.

Oh for Circe's sake. Blaise let out a heavy sigh having glanced to the door when it opened and seeing who he'd gotten for company--temporary company. It was a Prefect, because everyone knew how fond he was of those--of this one that had been mean to Liv and made her all sad on her very first train ride ever. Was that what they taught Prefects to do at the mandatory Prefect Camp they obviously held over the summers? Someone needed to lodge a formal complaint.

The boy turned his gaze to the window again, determined to pretend the boy wasn't still standing there. Maybe if he ignored him long enough...he'd go away?

Granted, Blaise had no problems moping in the presence of others but he didn't wanna in front anyone with a badge. Always thought they knew everything and that they were better than everyone--except Norah. Bless her. The most perfect person in the Universe. "Do you mind?" Because Mr. Prefect wasn't leaving fast enough.

Evie had followed her mother dutifully through the largest train station she had ever seen. Pulling her large trunk behind her and trying not to look around gawking at all the people. Her mother lead her straight through all the platforms, and stopped at a brick wall between the platforms 9 and 10. "Uhhh.. Mom, there's no one here. There's nothing here. Let's find the platform before I miss my train!! " To be honest, Evie still wasn't certain about this whole Hogwarts business, her mother still had been very tight lipped and her father... well he still wasn't speaking and the night before they left for London was packing clothes to move into the flat above the bank that he worked at.

Catelyn, Evie's mother, shuffled behind the brunette and sternly placed her hands on her shoulders. Shoving her quickly through the brick wall. 'WHAT -!!" Evie screamed as she disappeared through the wall and almost passed out once she saw the other side. Gasping for air she spun around slowly as she took it all in. Exactly where there hadn't been was now a train platform and the most gorgeous train she had ever seen sitting...waiting.

Smiling her mother took Evie by the hand and lead her over to the front of the train. "Be good darling, I promise they will take good care of you. Just keep your chin up and write whenever you want. Give your father some time, he will come around. And we will see you at Christmas."The woman hugged Evie tightly and motioned for the steps onto the train.

Bounding up the steps Evie stepped into the first car, finding that some of the compartments had already been taken. She looked around as some friends were talking, taking a deep breath she took the very first compartment on the side away from the platform. She didn't want to see her mother again and chicken out of doing this. Opening the door she smiled as she sat down. She sat her purse beside her and double checked that the money (weird money at that) was still inside. Leaving her door open so that maybe someone would take it as an invitation to join her, she needed to make friends after all.

If anyone thought that Bec would be staying at the middle cars the whole ride they were sadly mistaken. Who wanted to sit in one place anyway when there was exploring to do!? So, already dressed in her Hogwarts uniform the eleven year old walked through the corridor of the train and made her way over to the front.

She had heard from her parents that a food cart was somewhere in the train and she could do with some candy. She hadn't eaten one since she left her house! But, the further she walked, the more she began to realize that the trolley was perhaps at the other side of the train. Of course it was. Turning to walk back, her attention went to an open compartment door she had passed a second ago.

Looking inside, the soon to be first year Gryffindor she was sure of it! saw another girl who looked like she was her age. "Hi!" she said with a wave , still standing at the entrance of the compartment. "Are you new like i am?" she asked.

The basically 13 year old, groaned and tried to bury her face deeper into the cushion of the back rest. It didn't help. She was already stirring. Finally, Hads sat up and wiped the drool off her face. This earned her a prompt "telling off" from Asher, but with a single look from Hadley, he settled down. It was a far cry from barely keeping him under control at the end of last term. The summer had given her a lot of free time. Lots of boredom too. Part of that time had been used to train Asher and Wimple, though the latter had never really needed any training.

Asher moved to Hadley's lap and curled up again. He was back asleep in a few seconds. Which was how long it took Hads to piece together where she was. She took the offered food and caffeine, yawned, and then looked Bernie up and down. "Thanks. What's with the flannel?" The girl's voice had changed over the summer. While not as drastic as how boy's voices change, there was still a difference in it. It was heavier in a way, more fuller. Hadley ignored the energy drink for now, instead focusing on the bagel and chocolate frogs, which she devoured ravenously.

Saying bye to the family had been a little weird this term. Normally it had been just Hady and her father at the platform minus last term when Koen had joined them. This year though in addition to her father and cousin had been her stepmom and one of her stepbrothers. The one that was also getting on the train. Yeah, the year wouldn't be awkward at all.

Having passed off the baby cruppie to Koen with words of assurance that he would keep a good eye on it the now sixth year had boarded the train. Her things stowed away in the luggage compartment she made her way towards the front compartments with Hagan padding along at her side.

Pushing up one of the compartment doors and finding it empty she slipped inside, taking a seat against the window. Patting the spot beside her her fluff ball of a cat leaped up and laid down curling into her side nudging his head into her arm demanding a petting which he always got.

Another summer gone and another school term ready to begin.

Evie had just gotten comfortable when she watched a girl about her age pass by her compartment, she was excited at first hoping the girl would want to sit with her but the flame of excitement burned out as she kept walking. She had just turned to look out the window when she heard a voice, jerking her head back towards the door there stood the girl who had just passed asking if she was a first year too. "I am!" Evie beamed but as she looked at the girl she realized she was already in her school uniform, her mother had told her to change farther in the trip that way she wouldn't get tired of them so early. "Are we supposed to be in uniform already?" Evie asked nervously she didn't want to be in trouble before they even got to school. She motioned to the bench across from her "You can sit with me if you'd like." the brunette smiled shyly.

Kelly did't know how to feel about the train ride back this term. Last term had been so eventful and now she had to leave her boyfriend behind and she probably wouldn't get to see him for a while. Even though she knew he was gonna visit it wouldn't be the same and that kind made her sad. But it had been the right decision. What the blonde wanted the most was for her boyfriend to be happy and bastien couldn't have been happy at Hogwarts. He belonged to Durmstrang. So it was her job as girlfriend to accept that and be as supportive as she could be.

Even though she knew he was gonna visit it wouldn't be the same and that kind made her sad. But it had been the right decision. What the blonde wanted the most was for her boyfriend to be happy and bastien couldn't have been happy at Hogwarts. He belonged to Durmstrang. So it was her job as girlfriend to accept that and be as supportive as she could be.


Walking through the train made her remember the train ride home before summer, where they had spent the whole ride kissing. Hopefully she would see one of her friends soon, cause these sad thoughts weren't what she needed now. A new term was starting which meant they had a whole new year for adventures and challenges. As she walked past a compartment Kelly noticed a familiar face and opened the door quickly. "HADY!!" Oh boy was she excited to see her friend. They had spent a lot of time together during summer but it was still nice to see a fellow Siren.

Hady had been enjoying the quiet however brief it might have been. Her eyes had been closed, head resting back against the seat and fingers running gently through her cats fur. Content was what she was. Or had been.

The quiet was shattered by someone shouting her name causing her eyes to snap open. Who it was wasn't a mystery at all for she knew the voice well by now. It was one of the band mates, particularly Kelly. Hazel eyes landed on the blonde. "Hey Kel, gonna join me?" She asked nodding her head at the empty bench across from her. "Where's the rest of the girls?" Were they coming too?

Dillon pushed his daughters cart through the crowded train station. It had been years since he'd been to King's Crossing, the last time to send his younger brothers off to Hogwarts. Now he was seeing his won daughter off for her first year. He wanted to be excited, if nothing for Felix's sake, but his heart wasn't in it.

The tiny pair weaved in and out of the crowds of muggles effortlessly. Soon they pushed through the barrier onto platform 9 3/4. The gleaming Hogwarts train stood on the tracks waiting to whisk his daughter away for a whole year.

"Oh daddy is so pretty. Red really is a nice color for a train." Felix exclaimed trying to reach out to touch the train. The gap was too large and she was still too small to reach it.

Dillon dropped her trunk, owl cage and mobil lab kit off with the porter. "Mind the gap Peanut." He aid before she tumbled down onto the track. Felix snatched her hand back and looked up at her father. His heart squeezed painfully i his chest. What was he doing to do without her?

All around them families said their goodbye and kids hurried onto the train. Dillon gathered Felix into his arms. "Daddy is going to miss you so much." He whispered holding back the tears.

Felix hugged her father hard. "Don't be sad daddy. We've got the mirrors so we can talk remember, and I will be back for Christmas and my birthday and uncle JoJo will still be there." She pulled back and was startled to see the tears in her father's eye. She had never seen him cry before. Her uncle Lucas sure, he cried during Frozen. Her grandfather, yeah, he cried when a dragon was born, but her dad had never cried in front of her before. "Daddy." she said softly. "If you don't want me to go I won't go."

Dillon looked at Felix, If he said no, she would stay with him, but could he really deny her this opportunity? He remembered his days at Hogwarts fondly, even though he was without his twin. "No Sugabug. I want you to go I'm just going to be really sad for a little bit, but its ok. This is the going to be the longest we've been apart." He kissed her forehead. "This is going to be a grand adventure for you."

Felix smiled. "Maybe I can top some of your pranks."

Dillon chuckled. "I'm sure you will. You're a lot smarter than me." He hugged and kissed her one more time before helping her onto the train. He stood on the tracks and waved till the train disappeared. He apperated to his mother's house for a good cry and a chocolate milkshake.

Felix walked along the corridor looking for a empty compartment. The first coupe of cars were full of laughing and chatting students, most of them looked older and bigger. In Felix's experience with her cousins the older and bigger they looked the less they wanted a 'kid' in their midst. Felix didn't mind, she didn't like when they mad fun of her muggle toys or the fact that she had a slight candy addiction.

Finally she found an empty compartment. It was a struggle to push open the door, but she managed it well enough. She had to pull herself up into the seat before she could settle down. She pulled a jawbreaker the size of a tennis ball from her tunic and started licking it.

As was tradition whenever he found himself on the Hogwarts Express, Frankie made his loyal visit to the trolley lady and bought as many sweets as he could possibly carry. Typically he would have returned to the prefects' compartment to snack hardcore (the life of a prefect was rough, man), but he stopped himself after walking past one of the train compartments.

Was that Hady? The blond grinned, happy that he was able to catch her before the feast. The prefects would have to wait. Mhhm.

Walking backwards a few feet, the prefect and his armful of sweets were now in plain sight of his girlfriend ... and a shrieking female. Was he about to interrupt a happy reunion? Should he come back later?

Knowing full well that the odds of him leaving the prefects' compartment until the train ride was over was slim, he decided to stick around. He coughed awkwardly, hoping he wasn't intruding on anything super important. He smiled at both girls, though the words that came out of his mouth were directed toward Hady. "Somehow I managed to come across all of these sweets, and I thought to myself 'How sweet of me would it be if I shared my sweets with my sweet pea.'" And her friend too, if she wanted a chocolate frog or pumpkin pasty.

Ariadne had been to the candy trolley, and it had been an AMAZING experience. Nothing had happened but her just getting in line, making her selections, paying for and receiving her candy, and then leaving. So why had it been so amazing? Umm...HELLO! Chocolate frogs! TWO of them to be exact. There were other items in her bag, too, but her mind was set on eating one of the chocolate frogs just as soon as she got settled back into her compartment.

She'd gotten turned around, though, and instead of heading to the one she'd been sitting in, she turned toward a different one. She slid open the compartment door and stepped inside just in time to see another girl close to her age already inside. "Oh...oops," she said. "I guess I'm in the wrong compartment." Awkward. Hopefully this girl didn't mind. "I didn't mean to barge in on you, but I'm in here now! Do you mind the company?" She just wanted to sit down soon, because that chocolate frog was calling her name!

Felix nearly dropped her jawbreaker as the compartment doors creaked open. She had been in the middle of a great daydream about blue and green edible bubbles that you could ride in.

She grinned at the new girl."I never mind company." She slid over close to the window in case the girl wanted to sit on the same seat with Felix. Though that would be awkward, well not for Felix she didn't take up a lot of room, but the girl might have a thing about personal bubbles. "I've just been trying to calculate how long it will take me to get to the center of this." She waved her jawbreaker at the girl. "My daddy says there is a surprise in the center but you have to get to it within a year and you can't cheat like keeping it in water. Who would put a jawbreaker in water that takes all the fun out of licking. Not a lot of people invest in proper licking technique. My baby cousin Cuba is a great licker. She once licked a baby snow leopard." Felix held out her jawbreaker. "How long do you think it would take to get to the center? I figure you have to divide the radius of the jawbreaker by the drag coefficient of the lick then square the day of the week."

Azura slowly settled down into an empty compartment, the little girl was paler than she usually was, and her usually pretty white skin had a slightly yellow tinge to it and her usually bright purple eyes were dull and pained looking..

Ever since her mother had died, Azura had felt numb and everything seemed to be cloaked in darkness.. The last week had been hellish.. Finding out on the street.. The funeral..

Standing in front of her Father, dressed in black as family members tried to console her. She hadn't been sleeping well, or eating much at all, she spent her time locked in her room studying, or in the kitchen, baking.. Trying to perfect the raindrop cake for Jace..

She had a package in her lap containing the cake.. She had intended on giving it to him on the platform, and then let him continue his train ride without her.. But she hadnt wanted to let go of her father, long enough to look for her friend.

She sighed softly as she bit her lip and looked out the window. Maybe she could see if she could find Jace now.. She missed him, and wanted to see him badly.

What is worse than having a pair of very short legs? Jace could feel his legs start to cramp as he finally boarded the train, pretty much shoving his parents away in a hurry to catch Azura. He’d seen her board earlier, and if his papa hadn’t fussed over him profusely before getting on the train, then he would have caught up to his best friend immediately. Something was wrong, he could tell. Why were her relatives wearing black?

Ducking his head to get away from his papa’s kiss, Jace snatched the pack of wet towelettes from his mama, and ran for the train door. They have smothered him enough to last the whole term, so it was all good.

With dishevelled hair, creased clothes, and a look on his face that said T I R E D all over, Jace paced the whole stretch of the train, wondering where Azura had left off. Taking a wild turn for the front car, the second year Ravenclaw peeked through different compartment doors until he saw a lone girl...who looked as awful as him. Sliding the door open, Jace stood on the spot for a moment, and wondered what happened to his best friend. Something was definitely amiss. “Ohayo, Azura-san.”

As the compartment door open Azura looked and for a moment a slight sparkle came into her dull purple eyes.

Jace.

She hadn't seen him all summer! And to finally see him in front of her made her want to cry! Or hug him tightly and never let go! Her heart throbbed slightly as her eyes roved over him and she bit her lip, trying to stop the tears from coming to her tired eyes.

She slowly moved upwards and then with a bow said "Hisashiburi desu, Jace- kun. " She whispered to him as she raised her head and looked up at him, he looked so tired! And rumpled and his hair was a mess.. But he was here and that was all that mattered.

Fwoopers she wanted to hug him!

Should...he be alarmed? Azura didn't look so good, and wondered if her date last summer didn't go well? Cyprian Night, yes? The still small second year Ravenclaw stilled and just got so confused with what he saw. Azura's tone in her letter was different...way different than what he's seeing now.

Was she hiding something from him? Not telling the whole story kind of stuff?

The Japanese phrase came as a surprise though, and this lit up Jace's face. "It' been a long time, indeed." he replied in his native tongue, and was sure that Azura didn't understand it one bit. "So...what else have you learned over summer? What kept you from sending me an owl?" Because there would be zero letters, if it weren't for Jace giving her an update first.

Azura was moments away from hugging the small Ravenclaw, when his face lit up as she spoke and she felt a sigh of relief move through her as he responded back to her in Japanese. She must have done it right! She didn't understand what he said but.. Next summer. She would take more lessons then!

She slowly sat back in the seat and motioned for him to sit down with her so they could talk..

She smiled a bit at his first words before biting her lip at his second. Mmmm, she had been a bad best friend in not owling him. But she hadn't wanted to worry him, nor had she wanted to lie.

"I learned how to make the cake you sent me.. In fact.." She pulled a covered package from out from under her coat and handed it to him. "For you. " She said as she bit her lip and sighed.

"I'm sorry I didn't owl you Jace, I meant too but as soon as I got off the train last summer everything went wrong. Cyprian and I.. Well that didn't happen.." She looked down as she bit her lip a little.. "But the biggest thing.. I didn't want to worry you, or tell you about it.. until I knew something concrete. Which only happened last week."

Azura's eyes were filling with tears.. She hadn't planned on telling Jace.. But.. She bit her lip a little as she tried to calm herself down..

"Jace.. My.." Azura was trying not to sob now.. She hadn't actually said it out loud yet.. Because.. She was still trying to believe that everyone was wrong.. Her mother COULDN'T be dead.. She just couldn't be.. They HAD to be wrong!!

"My..my mom.." The words were hard to get out.. Fwoopers help her. She was clenching her fists and trying to look over at her friend..

Charlotte liked sitting at the front of the train so that she would be one of the FIRST back to Hogsmeade, and therefore get on the carriages FIRST and therefore be back at school FIRST. She found herself a compartment -an empty one- and spread out on one of the seats, feet towards the window.

This was the FIRST time also that Char hadn't immediately gone looking for her friends. She would if they didn't come find her (but they SO WOULD right?). She had things to do anyway, like a LIST. She was working on a LIST. Notebook in her lap, fluffy feather quill busily writing, Charlotte's tongue poked out in concentration.

The list had to be perrrfect!

Kelly hadn't noticed the peaceful position her friend had been in when she stormed in. There was too much excitement about seeing her again. Also, the blonde was really glad she didn't have to spend the train ride alone cause her thoughts would eat her up alive. "If you don't mind?", she smiled, " i hope i didn't interrupt anything?" Even though Hady was alone in the compartment, one could never be sure. Maybe she was having a conversation with herself? Kelly had heard that, that was healthy somewhere.

Sitting down on the across the fellow snake the fifth year sighed a little. Her trunks were really heavy and she was glad she didn't have to look after them anymore. "I haven't seen anyone else yet but i am sure they'll spot us when they come by." Now that would be fun, to have the band here in the compartment. The ride would certainly fly by if they all joined them. They could have a singalong or something.

Just as the blonde was gonna suggest that the compartment door opened up again and a blond dude stepped in....she had seen him before but the slytherin wasn't quite sure were to put him. Hmmmm....

OHHHHHHH!


It was Hady's boyfriend Frankie. Of course! How could she not see that immediately? Kelly Rose Flenegan , you fail. Hady was so lucky to have her boyfriend on the train with her. It kind of made her sad thinking about how Bastien was on the ship to Durmstrang right now and she was here. Hundreds of miles away from him. But they could do this, it would be fine. They had owls and he could visit. She'd sneak him in whenever.


Giving Frankie a smile, she observed the conversation that was going on between him and Hady. They were adorable.

Bec’s eyes grew wide and she clapped her hands excitedly before entering the compartment and sat down on the opposite seat of the same aged girl. “That is cool! You’re the third person I met who is a first year” she said and then looked down at her school uniform as the girl had pointed it out.
