First person mentioned in the thread title is the first person to start off the duel.
Maggie had found that dueling friends was a lot nicer than dueling her ENEMIES. While some people might have been worried about hurting or attacking the people they actually liked and cared about, Maggie was mostly just glad that she could (hopefully) trust said people not to try and KILL HER! Like Nicole had tried to do. Maggie was absolutely sure that that was what Nicole had been doing exactly that: trying to KILL HER. And if it hadn't been for Professor Hirsch intervening...well, who knew.
And above all, he had scolded HER. Magdalena.
Like...what was UP with that? That had just been so wrong.
Ugh.
Anyway. New day. New duel. One that was actually going to be somewhat enjoyable. Or so she hoped anyway. "Hugo!" Maggie grinned at her opponent before going through the necessary bows and other forms of dueling etiquette. Really, somebody should have added proper twirls or something. Make it more fun. ANYWAY. DUELING. "You ready?" Because she most certainly was. Hehehehe.
"Colloshoo!" She pointed her wand at the boy's feet before quickly sending a Stinging Hex at him. Gotta start easy you know.
Or not.

By now, Hugo was used to duel his friends so, whatever. This time was Maggie his opponent and years ago this would have been a very interesting duel because he remembered how "well" they used to get along. It was funny to see her annoyed by his presence though but now it was not that case and somehow they became friends. Only Merlin knew what happened there.
So, the duel. She was the first girl he was dueling because his duel with Janelle didn't happened. He wasn't going to be mean but neither he was going to let her win. Hehe. Hugo smiled without giving a response and bowed. And the duel started. Quickly he casted a Protego to deflect the first spell and of course he was expecting a second one, he side-stepped to avoid it. Now his turn. He decided to have a bit of fun. Hugo muttered Aguamenti, his wand aiming at Maggie and her hair and then followed up by a Ears to Kumquats.

All she'd done this term was duel girls so Hugo was definitely a welcome change.
Not just because of him being male but also because she actually liked him.
After all her yeaaaars of experiiiiieeeeenceee with dueling Maggie had pretty much expected Hugo to deflect the spell back to her. She'd seen him duel. He wasn't too bad. Plus, they'd only just started. She would have almost been disappointed if her FIRST spell had hit him already. So she very casually and nonchalantly cast a Shield around her to defend her against her own spell.
Next?
OH NO YOU DIDN'T!
If she hadn't been busy defending herself she would have glared at Hugo. Water. That was just plain rude. "GLACIUS!" It was the first thing that had come to her mind so Maggie quickly sent the Freezing Spell at the water heading her way, successfully freezing it in place. She didn't even really have time to watch it shatter (and compliment herself on how clever she was) because there was ANOTHER spell heading her way.
Quickly ducking out of the way, Maggie then sent an Impedimenta st Hugo from her current position.

Well, well, well, it seemed Maggie was very good at avoiding his spells. Okay, okay, no problem for Hugo Foster. He was just disappointed that the Aguamenti didn't hit her, it would have been funny. Shame.
He casted a Protego to avoid Maggie's spell and right after that he sent an Expelliarmus. "Good thing you don't dislike me anymore" or maybe it would have been easier that way? Maybe. And then sent one more, "Anteoculatia"

Maggie, too, quickly cast a Shield Charm around herself to avoid his disarming spell after standing upright again and sent it back his way. His words made her lips curl into a small amused smirk as she kept moving around to make it harder for him to hit her. "You know I-"
UGH. Always with the talking. The talking was distracting.
So distracting in fact that she was too slow to get out of the way or shield herself from that second spell he sent her way. Great. Just great. LUCKILY there were no mirrors in here. Although maybe if she looked at- No. No distractions. Nope. Not anymore. Not even if her beautiful hair had just been turned into ANTLERS. At least it wasn't anything too gross. Maybe she just looked like a pretty deer now? Yes. That was it. Definitely.
Focusing on the duel again Maggie focused hard, then cast a Disillusionment Charm on herself. Yes, she had gotten quite good at those. Ask Zeke. Now, that would probably make it harder for Hugo to hit her again. Mostly to mess with him, she then sent a Trip Jinx at Hugo before tip-toeing out of the way. She didn't want him to know where she was after all.
Nor that she was trying to sneak up on him from behind.

Hugo avoided again the deflected spell and was happy that his second spell worked. He just wanted to have fun and since the Aguamenti did nothing, well, at least her hair was now turned into antlers. Hehe.
BUT, not everything was joy because Maggie was...gone. Alright, things just got serious but no worries, not at all. Hugo waited cautiously, his eyes scanning his surrounding and soon enough a spell hit him. Good. He fell down. "I hope you don't use this for stalking people..." just saying. Hugo got up and took a few steps forward looking around, even behind him because you never know and muttered an Homenum Revelio.
He was ready for Maggie to appear and a spell to be sent at him.

Was talking during a duel some kind of new duelling tactic that he was missing? Something to do with keeping the duel friendly? Or was this more of a distracting tactic?
All in all, Hirsch was slightly confused.
But duelling was something he understood very well so, he decided to pay all of his attention to that instead. This was proving to be difficult at the sight of Zeke Browne up in the stands, clearly there to root for his girlfriend. See, even the professors knew a thing or two that went on around the castle.
Anyways.
Oh. Was that it? Already? These duels sure do go by quickly, don't they? The shield went up, saving Miss Traulton from having to reveal herself just yet. "Well done, both of you. I like the level of magical ability displayed here today." As a teacher, he was rather impressed. "Congratulations are in order, especially to Mr Foster, who's taken the lead here today. Well done on putting up a good fight, Miss Traulton."
And hopefully, she could forgive him?
