This was her third duel and like the previous two, she was paired with a friend; another fellow Ravenclaw. Rachel stood in the familiar setting of the duels. She curtsied, straightened up and smiled at Katherine. "All the best, Katherine.'' Yes, it may be a friendly competition but she still wanted to see her friend do well.
''Everte Statum.'' The girl pointed her wand at Katherine and orange light shot from it towards her. This was a spell she had been practicing for a while but was quite sure that she had not developed the ability to make it very strong as yet. She thought this was a good thing. If it hit Katherine, it wouldn't hurt her.

She lost her second duel as well, and she wasn't even burnt this time. She was constantly losing, and it didn't look well with "going to be the best out there" goal of her mother's own self. She was doing something wrong, and she didn't even know what... she'd always been so self-confident, arrogant even, but now... she might have to admit she wasn't good at something, which was a crisis because she was good at EVERYTHING. No, no, she got this. She was going to beat Rachel, who happened to be that good for nothing Haddie's best friend. This was a piece of cake...
...was it?
Anyway, she had about zero chance to doubt herself more, because Rachel was already bowing. "Hi," she called back as she bowed, and as Rachel cast her spell, she cast "Protego!" quickly before the spell could hit her. She even used the deflecting-back type of it - she had specifically practised this, but one spell was never enough, so she quickly sent a Jelly-fingers curse as well.
If she bombarded her opponent with spells, she'd win, right?
I got this... I got this...

Rachel was impressed with Katherine's Shield Charm. She wished she were as good with that since she usually produced a feeble one incapable of stopping stronger spells. However, she would admire this spell work later because the spell she had used had rebounded towards her. She was too slow in defending and as such she was thrown backwards though she managed to keep her balance. It seemed she had not even cast that spell strong enough to do much damage.
Now she needed to be prepared for the next spell. But... was Katherine even aiming for her? The Jinx missed her altogether without her having to move at all. Rachel didn't waste anytime in sending a reply spell. She sent the Stinging Hex at her friend.

Okay, her Jelly-finger spell didn't work only because Rachel had moved when her own spell hit her back.
Yeah, Katherine was proud of her shield too.
But never mind, she had to keep up that shield, so she focused on that. Well, she still had problems with deflecting back the second spell that hit her shield, so Rachel's spell didn't return back to her. But at least it didn't hit Katherine either and that was the point for now. She was still keen on an aggressive approach, so she aimed properly this time and sent a "Obscuro!" at Rachel. She waited for a split second to see if Rachel would move to avoid her spell, and depending on where the other girl seemed to be moving, she quickly sent another "Rictusempra!" in that direction, aiming as well as she could.
She DID want to win this round, and she was going to. By being aggressive.

Katherine was excellent when it came to duels. Rachel felt herself being impressed again but she could not afford to be distracted right now especially since her opponent was being aggressive. She had experience with this, thanks to Mason, and she knew she must keep her calm and wits about.
She ducked the first one and raised her wand for the second. "Protego.'' She was defending herself as well as deflecting the spell back. Would it work? Would the rebound of the Rictusempra spell hit the other Eagle?

Well, it did hit Katherine back, but since she still had her shield up, she wasn't affected. Her shield was getting weaker though, and she doubted it'd last another spell. It didn't matter much. She could put it up back again, for now she knew she needed to attack.
She heard that 'Protego', so she decided to opt for the smashing spell to hopefully break her shield. Katherine didn't know how exactly shields worked (like was it a shield to literally break?), but she felt like smashing it would be better than just sending a random spell. And Rachel would hopefully be too busy with protecting her shield to attack her back, so as soon as she felt that Rachel's shield was down, she was attacking with a silencing charm and... something else that she'd think about later.

Katherine wasn't affected and Rachel spared a second or two to envy her friend's Shield Charm as it has resisted her own attacks. She wished her Charms of the same type were as strong. Speaking of which... that Smashing spell went right through her always and so annoyingly weak Shield charm.
But Rachel was fast. With another duck, she escaped the spell. She wasn't out as yet though! She cast the Trip Jinx at Katherine.

So even though Rachel ducked, her Shield was down, right? Because shields couldn't duck? Well, Katherine didn't know and she made a mental note to ask Professor Hirsch later. For now, though, she knew she had to attack. She had been prepared for Rachel's counter spell, so she dived, while yelling "SLUGULUS ERUCTO!" This duel had been going on far too longer than she'd have liked.

Was it just him or was Katherine Moss really ferocious in this duel?
It was almost as if the girl had a personal vendetta against Rachel Watson and wanted to get her own revenge. Or, she had a point to prove. Whatever it was, the quality of her spellwork seemed to have....... improved? Maybe in his eyes. There was a lot more intent behind her casting and there was no way that that was a bad thing in terms of dueling.
The duel continued and he had to hand it to Rachel for not giving up throughout it all. The time for the duel came to a close all too soon but he figured that that might be something the girls would like. Tired was still an emotion, after all. The shield went up, just in time to save Rachel from throwing up a bunch of slugs. You're welcome. "Well done on putting up a great fight. Both of you. That was an excellent duel." Keep it up, okay? "And while you've put up a good display of dueling ability, Rachel, Katherine takes the lead in this one. Congratulations!" Smile.
