Default The Transformation Room

Located adjacent to the Transfiguration Classroom door, is... well, another door. A small plague nailed to the front of the door reads;

The Transformation Room

When you enter, it might look like just an ordinary spare classroom. And... well... it probably is. There is no furniture here, only ample floor space, floor to ceiling windows with a view of the lovely Hogwarts Grounds, and a high ceiling. You can use this room to practice your spells or to complete homework.

At times, Professor York might have transformed the room into something else. Keep checking the Noticeboard for any information.

As soon as his first foot landed onto the floor of the Transformation room, Cutty's silvery (and some might say quite distempered) wand was out. He'd had a whole summer, unexpectedly spent in Egypt but nonetheless fulfilling and most of all informative, to toy with the spells he was most curious about now that he was of age. He wanted to test out a formula he'd been working on his curiousity for human transfiguration remaining as in tact as the day that girl from the competing school had given him a pigs snout and ears.

Beatrice was just returning to her office, after getting a mug of hot chocolate from the kitchen, which she was sipping on. As she walked down the corridor of the sixth floor, she saw an older lad heading into the transformation room. Delighted that someone was venturing into her spare room, hopefully to try out some spells, she stood in the doorway to see what he would do. Was he about to do some practicing from earlier years, or perhaps try something more challenging?

Considering the body weight bit of the basic Transfig spellwork formula, Cutty brought both of his feet closer together and lifted at the heels in a quick and almost dancer-like motion. They made a soft tap as they hit the floor. It seemed to be the most variable factor of the formula at times as his height had changed so dramatically over the summer. He stretched his duelists wand out and conjured a full-length mirror so that he could see what he'd done once he'd done it.

This was the one place he could've done it in a complete manner. There were people here that could and would if they realized it, change him back if he could not do so himself. Or in any case, he thought he could adapt to his new situation. He recalled the Egyptian spell and started at his feet, which were at once too small to support him and Cutty fell over forward. He inhaled deeply, determined not to break his concentration and have to start again. He continued the cast until he was about 1/4th of his original size and covered with russet fur. His wand landed onto the floor with a clattering sound as he no longer had the dexterity to hold it and he lept over toward the mirror he had conjured to have a look. Unlike the recent times he'd done it before, which had to be done in bits and pieces, this was a full and complete fox. He didn't care that the fur on the brushy tail was far too long in places or that one of the forepaws was larger than the others. His aim was not always for perfection, but for end game.

Human Cutty would've concealed his excitement, but with his animal emotions his four skinny legs bent and lowered his body as he darted about the room, tail wagging and little chortling squeaks coming from him. He sounded like a happy kazoo.

Beatrice watched as the student conjured a mirror. Already deeply impressed, though she felt as if she were almost intruding on their practice time, she just wanted to watch to see what spells he was about to do. Whatever it was, Beatrice could sense the great concentration radiating from the student, and audibly gasped as she watched him transform his feet into... what on EARTH were they? It didn't take long before she saw the student transform himself into a fox. "My my Myyyyyy," she marvelled, watching, absolutely, completely impressed with his skill.

Cutty froze. His foxy nose, being more sensitive than his human one by much, was picking up a scent. A cleanly sort of a scent like a bath perhaps the parchment of a book or two...million. He turned his head and then his body to face his new Transfiguration teacher. Quite forgetting that he wouldn't have the capability of normal, human speech Cutty said something like, "Wur'wur wur-wur-wur." But what he meant to say was, Professor York, how are you liking Hogwarts?

He then picked up his wand and immediately tried to bury it. A fruitless task it was on the hard castle floor.

It took a few moments for Beatrice to recover from the shock at seeing one of the students transform himself into a wolf. But she was delighted nonetheless. "Well hello there," she said, unable to keep from kneeling down to look at the wolf. She ran her hand down the animal/student's back briefly, not even thinking about how weird that might have been. It was... well, it was a perfect wolf. No sign of transfiguration gone wrong. How long had he been practicing this spell?

And then she grinned as he tried to bury his wand. She watched for a moment, not sure whether she should pull her own wand out and untransfigure him, or let him be for a bit longer, see what he would do...

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Out of all the places he had practiced the most obvious place hadn't crossed his mind until now. Funny how the mind works. Plus the practice room was far warmer than being outside in the snow and it was more quiet right now as he was the only one in here.

There wasn't much to see in this room though. No furniture or anything. Just a tall room with windows looking out at the grounds. He wasn't going to look out of the window to check the view though. He knew the transfiguration class was up at the sixth floor and that was hiiiigh.

The Gryffindor found a place to sit against a wall and got out his wand. He placed it beside him on the ground before taking out a pencil case from his bag. This should be good enough to practice Flintifors on. As this was a lower grade transfiguration spell, of course Yoongi knew how to do it but he still wanted to practice it. Because practicing over and over again was never a waste of time.

Pointing his wand at the pencil case, the Gryffindor flicked his wand upwards and mumbled. "Flintifors" in a second, the case transfigured in to a match box. Practicing was far more fun when a spell went right at the first try. But maybe that was because this was a lower grade spell... And if he couldn't do this one then wow...

Transfiguring the match box back to its original item, Yoongi moved around until he sat with his legs crossed. The hard ground wasn't really comfortable to sit on though but he wasn't sure how to conjure up a pillow. So instead he focused on the spell again and tried it verbally for a second time. The case transfigured in to a box immediately. He wished he was as good as this in other classes like potions and herbology.

Alright, time for the real challenge! trying it non-verbally. He changed the box back again and then re-pointed his wand. With a flick upwards he thought 'Flintifors' and to his surprise, the pencil case transformed!. No Hyland, don't get excited, keep your focus! He had learned from his past mistakes apparently because instead of cheering and clapping, he kept calm and focused on the spell. As the pencil case turned smaller and the colors changed, Yoongi felt really proud of himself. He grinned as he picked up the little matchbox and examined it. It looked really good if he said so himse--- the box had changed back again. Maybe he should practice more...

But not now though. The sixth year checked his watch and saw that it was almost dinner time. He placed the pencil case back in his school bag and stood up before walking out of the room.

Zander Adair was sick of sitting around in his room all day, so he opted to do his homework in this room instead. Nice change of scenery 'n all that. Plus, the Sixth Floor wasn't too far away and walking a bit was always nice. It was a needed stretch for his legs. As he arrived in the room, he pulled out a single coin from one pocket and his wand from the other.

Honestly, he didn't really see the point in this assignment... They had basically done the same thing in class. Buuuuut... He wouldn't complain. It was easy enough. Just had to do a spell wrong so many times. Zander could handle that, yeah. Deciding which spell he wanted to do was the easy part, he chose something simple that he could probably do in his sleep. Actually, probably not in his sleep. But the sentiment still stood, okay? He could do this one any time any day. It was easy.

Flintifors. He was gonna make this coin into a matchbox. Not hard. Something he had done before several times for class. Pretty sure he used it one of the first few lessons back. Easy Peasy. But he had to do it wrong this time. Which felt weird, knowing very well that he always did this one right. So when he opted to draw some lazy circles for the wand movement and slumped his back over when he said, "Flintifors!" It was no surprise that the coin hardly did a thing. He had been waiting for that. Knowing very well that the result would be anything but a matchbox.

He let out a small sigh as he tried again, this time focusing on his potions homework that was still left unfinished up in the laboratory. "Flintifors," his wand movement was still a lazy one, however, he didn't draw the random circles, correcting his movement this time to the proper one. Still the coin didn't do very much. It moved a bit and it looked like something would happen but in the matter of only seconds it was back to normal, nothing changed.

Deciding it was time for lunch, the Gryffindor pointed his wand once more, "Flintifors!" This time, opting for the right movement, incantation, and focus. And no surprise, but the coin did it's thing and became the matchbox that the Gryffindor was hoping to see. Quickly, Zander pocketed the newly formed matchbox before turning towards the door and heading down to the great hall.

Boy, all this transfiguration sure made a boy hungry.
