As you crest the staircase coming up from the sixth floor, you'll notice a statue to your right. Lachlan the Lanky is a great, if not extremely old, landmark for a meeting place, because he has just enough space behind him for a firstie to squeeze in and hide.

Never underestimate the element of surprise when greeting your friends, and even more so when sneaking up on your enemies. This statue of a wizard innocently reading is anything but innocent.

This was sooooooooooooooooo weird.

What had Culloden been thinking when he'd given them this assignment. Actually USE their potion. ON THEMSELVES. Being an animal for a day. Or well, not a DAY but however long it would last. Which hopefully wouldn't be too long. Although that would mean that her potion sucked. Meh.

Maggie had been wandering around the castle in search of a secluded spot to take her potion. She wanted to make sure that no one SAW her take it. So if they did spot her as an animal they wouldn't know it was her. Made total sense, yes? Yes absolutely. To be honest she was just hoping to not run into anyone, animal or human.

Wow. What if she ran into an actual cat though? HER cat even. Would it know??

With those unanswered questions on her mind, Maggie had somehow ended up on the seventh floor near that one statue. The one with the weird name. It seemed to be a good hiding spot though so she quickly stepped around it and leaned against Lachlan's leg. Okay. She could do this. Taking a deep breath Maggie closed her eyes and then quickly downed her potion.

OMG SHE WAS GOING DIE!!

That's what it felt like anyway. She was SHRINKING. AND THERE WAS FUR AND STUFF AND UGH WHAT WHY THIS WAS THE WORST THING EVER!

Eventually she took a deep breath through her nose....which was...not as big as she would have hoped. Maggie in general was no longer as big as she would have hoped. Why was she so SMALL??? She wrinkled her nose. And what was that smell? And what was THAT smell? AND OMG WHAT WAS-

Oh. Okay. That was just the statue. It was SO BIG THOUGH SHEESH.

She'd let out a small yelp and had jumped away from the statue. Whoa. Four legs. Four LEGS. Like what was balance???? Help? Before she fell over Maggie simply sat down. Although she was sitting more like a human would than a dog but at least she was sitting. Sitting was good. Okay. This was not fun.

It was no wonder potions was one of his favourite subjects. Aside from the fact that he was actually pretty good at it, it was also pretty neat. Like, FUN, neat. Waiting patiently wasn't something he did very well, but wait he did. As soon as he knew his brewing time was done he had returned to the potions lab to collect his sample and to collect the part of an animal he wanted to become.

This had been hard.

In the end he had managed to narrow it down to three choices. Lion, wolf, dog.

He ruled out dog pretty quickly, but only because a wolf was LIKE a dog anyway. And in the end he opted or the wolf fur over that of a lion because it seemed more practical. And besides, weren't wolves more agile than lions? He hopes to be able to stretch his legs - all four of them.

Zeke left the common room, not for the first time that day, and hadn't managed to get very far before unstoppering his vial with the wolf part, and downed it right then and there in front of the staircase. The aim had been to do it out on the grounds, but exercising his patience was not a priority for him at the minute.

Grimacing a bit as the potion went down, Zeke waited.

The transformation felt strange, weird, and unpleasant. His muscles felt like they were pulling tighter than they should, and his head span as he tried to adjust to his new body.

Wobbling slightly, Zeke found himself falling to his bum, or at least, the side of it. Peering down, the giant wolf paws he assumed were his feet didn't go unnoticed. Cool? He sat in that position - almost like a dog - for a considerable moment, before realising there was an odour that was making his nose twitch.

WHAT, was that?

Hazel eyes looking up, he caught sight of a small figure moving in his peripheral vision.

WHAT WAS THAT?!

Unfortunately for him he had to figure out how to move his legs in order to effectively move his body around to see properly. Heaving himself up was one part of the task, as his legs felt like jelly beneath him, but turning proved to be more difficult. His arms (legs) slid out from under him, sending his jaw crashing to the ground. Smooth, Zeke. Smooth.

Sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sniff sni-

All those smells were rather overwhelming at the moment. How could she NOT be aware of all of them in human form? Although, some of them Maggie was glad she COULDN'T usually smell. Like. Ew. No. She didn't want to know that. There was SOMETHING that had caught her attention though. Another smell. It smelled like.......an animal. Another animal.

Oh no, what if it was a school rat???? EW.

Apparently she didn't quite know how to use her newly heightened sense of smell yet because when she turned her head slightly she did spot the animal. And it was NOT a rat. Instead it was a wolf. Huh. Which (HOPEFULLY) meant it was another student also doing the potions homework assignment.

~~If it WASN'T a student she should probably start running now.~~

She gave an unintentional (and rather obnoxious) bark and wagged her tail. Which was rather difficult, seeing as she was mostly sitting ON her tail. How did dogs even function? Maggie pushed herself up on all fours and took a hesitant step towards the wolf. This walking on all fours things wasn't THAT hard really. As long as you focused. She was doing pretty well.

Unlike the wolf. Who had just face-planted.

Could she laugh in this form? Apparently not but inside she was snickering. Maggie stopped again and tilted her head to the side, watching the wolf. Would they be able to communicate? Was there a secret wolf/dog language? Probably. Maybe she should've looked into all that BEFORE transforming. She highly doubted they'd let her in the library like this. Meh. Wagging her tail still, she walked over and started circling the wolf. Hi hi hi hi hi hi.

Oooooomph. He'd have blushed if blushing was possible with fur, but thankfully it wasn't. Finding his feet... paws... again, Zeke righted himself and watched curiously as one of the smallest dogs he'd ever seen barked in his direction. There was no way of knowing WHO the dog form was, or whether it was SOMEONE or someones PET, but considering it seemed happy to see him, it made for an interesting meeting. "Aaaarrrrroooo," Zeke somehow voiced as he opened his mouth. The sound was something of a mix between a moan and a howl, and he wasn't quite sure if it translated correctly into wolf speak, but what he'd mean to say was HEY.

Bushy tail limp at his hind legs, Zeke panted with enthusiasm as the smaller dog started circling him. Nose twitching, he bent his head lower to try to pick up on the scent in an effort to get a sense of their human smell. Would he even know what they smelled like as a human? Whatever the smell was - which he couldn't quite describe, it wasn't bad.

Placing one paw in front of the other, Zeke slowly fell into line behind the small dog, attempting to circle it in return. Enthusiastically, and perhaps a little TOO enthusiastically, Zeke bump-rubbed his head against the smaller one. TAG! They were totally it, did they know? Tongue out the side of his mouth... and geez was it long, he grinned on the inside as he somehow successfully managed to bound a few paces backward ready to bolt given a chase.

The wolf's howl was a lot more powerful than her bark. Not that it intimidated her or anything. She was confident after all. Maggie had the confidence of....well, a small dog. It fit perfectly. She gave a few shrill barks in reply. The wolf was probably like 10x her size (at least that's what it looked like from down there) but she was at least 10x more obnoxious.

Okay it seemed like the wolf had gotten a hang of this walking thing too now and was circling her too and she was about to react to that when-

Hmpf!

Maggie fell over. Onto her side. OUCH! Not that he had actually hurt her but HOW DUMB WAS THIS WOLF???? Like. Had he done that on purpose? She was tiny!!! How could he just bump his head against her like that? Getting back on her feet she narrowed her eyes (which didn't really come across AS well in dog form) and growled at him. YES GROWLED!

Like. RUDE!

It was so on. Without thinking of height differences and how she had absolutely ZERO chance of catching him probably Maggie started RUNNING towards him, barking madly the whole time. She was going to.....do something. She doubted she was able to make him fall over but maybe she could bite his leg or tail or something. Yes. Good plan. That's what she was going for anyway.

... were they saying hello back? or was that something else? Go figure Zeke didn't speak dog, or wolf, and so all of this suddenly seemed incredibly inconvenient. WHY COULDN'T ANIMALS SPEAK ENGLISH?!... Wait. Woah. So... did that mean when someone told a dog to sit, that they didn't KNOW it was sit? But hey figured it out somehow?

This was mind-blowing, he was learning animal psychology right now!

While he didn't know what the dog was trying to say, he knew by the growl that the head rub hadn't been appreciated. But honestly, he hadn't meant to knock the poor thing over like that. Just didn't know his own strength?

He'd had a head start, but that was about the only advantage he had, because even though longer legs were usually good for covering distance... long legs were also a hindrance when one wasn't familiar with making them run. The first few steps he took as he went to bolt down the corridor the other way had gone fine, but it was as he was bringing his hind legs forward that he knocked them into one of his front paws, effectively kicking his own leg out from under him.

Zeke thudded to the floor, landing mostly on his shoulder, a sharp yelp escaped him from the pain and shock of the fall. Sheeeeesh. He didn't even want to look back, he was sure the dog was hot on his tail now. Getting back up was slow, moving one paw at a time.

Faster faster faster faster faster.

Maggie was mentally telling her legs (four now) to go faster. She was almost there. She'd almost caught the wolf. The barking wasn't necessarily helping her go faster but she did it anyway. To make sure the wolf KNEW she was still there. Right there. Behind him. Almost caught up.

Not really but maybe her barks would make him think that.

She felt the fall before she saw it, making her slow down for just a moment. Ouch. Well now at least the wolf knew what falling down felt like. Maggie was NOT feeling sorry for the wolf. Nope. Not at all. Hurrying up again (she was really getting the hang of this RUNNING thing wow), she ran towards the wolf and tried to bite its tail.

REVENGE FOR PUSHING HER OVER!

One paw, two paws, three paws... four....

His legs were extending further each time, but he was in strife, he KNEW he was in strife, the barking from behind him was as certain an indicator as he needed. And if that wasn't enough, it was as if all his nerves were on edge, the hairs on the back of his neck were standing on end in anticipation.

And before he could distance himself, something snapped shut on his leg? no, not leg, tail? Is that what a tail FELT like? He stopped dead in his tracks, a growl leaving his parted lips, teeth bared as he hissed in pain. OUCH! SINCE WHEN WAS BITING OKAY?!

Turning to stare down the little pooch, Zeke tilted his head, his still hazel eyes staring at the small figure. That move was gutsy, because as far as he was concerned, he could rip the dog to shreds. He had to remind himself that they were both PEOPLE, right? it WAS a person? Not just a feral pet? Instead of retaliating, Zeke opted for a different approach.

He lowered himself to the floor, laying on his stomach with his legs awkwardly tucked beneath him... it felt so weird... he just wanted to stretch them out behind him instead, and so he did... kinda, with a little effort. Resting his chin on the floor in front of the small dog, he emitted a whiney moan. By this, he meant... APOLOGISE!

Okay. The wolf growl was a liiiiiittle scary.

Which didn't mean that Maggie let go of the tail right away. No. She hadn't bitten down TOO hard. Or at least she didn't think so. She wasn't exactly used to biting things, let alone with sharp teeth, so she wasn't entirely sure about its effect. But it couldn't be THAT bad. There was no blood. And the wolf seemed to be okay. Although it was glaring at her now. She did her best to glare back.

If this was an actual wolf she was in so much trouble.

And even if it wasn't an actual wolf, Maggie would still be in trouble if it chose to bite back. Nonetheless, Maggie stood her ground, raising her head slightly after letting go of the tail. SO WHATS YOUR MOVE? YOU WANNA FIGHT??? She tried to give a nod of her head but it probably didn't mean the same thing as it did in human-speak. Just in case she tensed up though, ready to run away if the wolf was going to attack.

....which it didn't.

Instead the wolf lay down on the floor. And started whining. What was that supposed to mean? Maggie tilted her head to the side and considered the wolf. What did he want? They were sort of even though now. She'd bitten its tail and it had pushed her over. So in the end she touched the wolf's nose with her paw softly. She really didn't need a wolf-sized enemy at the moment.

So, friends?

There was no denying that communicating in this form was difficult, but it seemed as though his message had gotten through to his canine companion. It had stalled, and eventually released his tail. Granted, it didn't REALLY hurt all that much anymore, the pain subsided really quickly, but it had taken him by surprise initially. He supposed the thick hair softened the blow, or else he was certain those razor sharp teeth could have caused some damage.

How exactly would that manifest when the potion wore off? Would there be a bite mark on his bum? Is that how it would have worked??

His sulking also appeared to pay off, because next thing he knew there was a paw on his face - or more accurately, on his nose. He sniffed at it before extending his tongue to lick where it had touched his nose. HE COULD NEVER LICK HIS NOSE AS A HUMAN! This was, pretty cool. Cracking himself a wolfish grin, mouth open and tongue out the side, Zeke rolled from his position on his stomach onto his back, looking up at the smaller dog from where he lay. HEY FRIEND!

What exactly did dogs do? And more to the point, what did wolves do?

And just how long would they be like this? His concept of time seemed skewed, so he wouldn't have been able to say how long it had been since his transformation.

Apparently the wolf accepted her gesture of friendship. If him rolling onto his back was any indication. But wait. Maggie may never have BEEN a dog (nor had she owned one) but she still knew SOME things. Like that, that rolling onto your back thing, that meant that SHE was the one in charge now.

She was the boss! Hehe.

Maggie smirked inwardly before strutting around the wolf with her head held high. Almost as if it was her prey that she'd just caught. It was now hers.

Once she'd gone full circle, Maggie sat down next to the wolf's head again and considered it. For a few seconds she wondered just who was lying there in front of her. It was weird not knowing, really. But also oddly exciting. Somehow she hoped that she would never find out. That they would part ways before they changed back. There was no way for her to find out who it was just judging by the animal form though.

Feeling an itch coming on, Maggie did something she'd always wanted to do. She tried to scratch her ear with her hind leg. Like the dogs did. And most animals really. Only it required balance too. Which she usually had but not in this form. Everything was way too new. So when she tried to scratch herself, Maggie simply toppled over onto her side.

Oops. Awkward. Now they DEFINITELY had to part ways before changing back.

He was quite comfortable here, where he was, so comfortable in fact that he didn't bother moving when mystery dog circled him, looking smug with itself. What was it about small dogs? Like WHY were they always so aloof like snooty cats... just so... arrogant? Was that the word he was looking for?

Ears pricked with interest, he watched as it took a seat beside him. From his back, he rolled over to his side, giving him a different view of the tiny furry form. What he saw next had him laughing on the inside, laughing and LAUGHING on the inside, resulting in something akin to heavy breathing and huffing.

With a bit of effort, Zeke moved to get up, and as easy as it would have been in human form, he had NO grace as a wolf... which was bitterly disappointing, because they were totally supposed to be sophisticated and mysterious and smooth and stuff. Once on all fours, he stood over the small form. Would it do it again? Cause he'd dearly love to watch.

Zeke didn't have an itch, but he could still feel where he'd been laying against the flat cold surface. Steadying himself, paws parted slightly, Zeke tried to shake off the feeling, allowing his muscles to loosen slightly around him.

'Maggie' was probably the word he was looking for.

Maggie who was currently REALLY glad that no one had seen her. Or well, no one of interest. Like. Whoever this wolf was, they didn't know that it was HER who'd just fallen over trying to scratch her ear. So all was well. As long as she ran off once she could feel herself changing back. Which shouldn't be for a little longer though. She thought. Actually, she had no idea how much time had passed since she'd taken the potion or how long its effects would last.

But right now she still felt like a dog.

A very small dog. Especially once the wolf got up again and was standing over her. Hi. He was big. Which of course didn't mean she was scared or anything. Pfft. So since she STILL had that itch to scratch, Maggie quickly got to her feet again and moved to rub her head against the wolf's leg. Ah, yes. There. That was a lot better. And didn't involve falling over. Perfect.

A small yelp escaped her lips however when the wolf suddenly started shaking his body. For a second she thought he was changing back but it didn't look like it. Good. It would take the mystery out of it if she knew who the wolf was. Giving another bark she eyed the wolf's back. If they were to move out of this corridor she definitely wanted to sit there. Like. She had short legs and all.

At first he thought the small dog was going to have another waste of him, but he was pleasantly surprised that it was just rubbing its head against him. Because, that was perfectly normal, for dogs. HAHAHAHA. This was too funny. He REALLY wanted to know who this other person was, because he was now convinced it was one of his peers. Was it someone in his year? Someone in his House? He wouldn't try to guess, there really was no telling who.

Sniffing the top of its back as it did it's thing, Zeke wondered if dogs always smelled this way, and that he just hadn't noticed before.

Shaking himself off felt good though, like REALLY good, so he gave himself another little shake, only a small one this time and much of it was coming from his bottom instead of his head. HAHAHA... he was shaking his booty! IN WOLF FORM! Brilliant. Nudging the dog far more gently than last time, he flopped down so that he was at it's level. Y'know, eye contact for communication was crucial, and it was a little hard when you were 17397391 times taller than your friend. Friend? ... they were being friendLY at least.

And what as it looking at?

Turning his head slightly in an attempt to peer behind himself, he saw nothing but his bushy tail.

Maggie could feel the wolf sniff her back. It was a weird experience, yet not necessarily an unpleasant one. She wagged her tail. Not that she'd made any conscious decision to do so. It just happened. It was weird and she briefly wondered what it would be like to have something like that when in human form. Not a tail per se. But something that automatically reflected how you felt.

Maybe blushing could be considered something like that. Hmm.

When he was shaking his body, Maggie did the same but mostly shook her head. And ears. Those felt funny. Flopping about like that.

She considered the wolf with her head slightly cocked to the side for a moment. Then touched its nose with her paw again. Hi friend. This corridor was getting a bit boring though and she wasn't sure how much longer the potion would last. Maybe they should try go outside? After eying the wolf's back for a little longer she eventually strutted over to it and jumped on it.

Or tried to. Jumping was hard.

In the end she just crawled on his back, then took a seat on his neck. Hehe. She used her paw to tap the wolf on the head. Go, horsie, go. She didn't have all day. She barked once. Which totally meant 'go!' in dog speak. Totes.

He had expected to feel really hot as a wolf, cause his coat was quite thick, but he was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable that part of the experience was. Avoiding being slapped in the face by the dog's wagging tail, Zeke docked and dodged until suddenly he had a paw on his nose again. Instinctively he licked at it, because how else was he supposed to reply to the gesture? His own paw/hand/thing was about the size of the dog's face.

He was still confused about what the dog was trying to communicate, or was it just spacing out? He peered behind him again, but saw nothing. Was there something dogs could see that wolves couldn't? Or was it listening to something? Focusing intently, Zeke tried to hear all the sounds in their vicinity. It was actually pretty amazing how well he felt he could hear, but there was nothing of any real interest there.

It was only when the dog started CLIMBING on him that he figured out what it had been about. It wanted a wolf-back ride?? Zeke laughed internally at the thought, his bushy tail wagging from side to side a couple of times as he felt the small dogs claws inch their way up his back.

Unlike the sudden bite on the tail, he didn't feel much in the way of anything more than padding on his back, like someone was trying to massage him with the blunt end of a pencil. Feeling the figure stop moving and pat him on the head, Zeke did his best to rise to his feet without jolting his passenger too much. He had been itching to stretch his legs after all, so stuffing around in a corridor was not how he wanted to spend this precious wolf time if he could help it.

The barking was all the motivation he needed to get going, and so he did... slowly at first, still getting used to the feet/hands thing. In his mind, he had to liken it to how children played 'dogs' or 'horses' down on all fours, and so he consciously counted out his steps at first until he was able to gain momentum.

Would the dog stay on alright if he bounded down the stairs???

Time would tell.

Zeke howled with delight before taking a somewhat sharp turn to descend the first lot of stairs. And they were off!

For Tia's final spell attempt for transfiguration, she really wanted to try animating an object. She'd read about all sorts of incidences of great witches and wizards animating objects and knew it would be of challenge. And maybe she wouldn't quite get the hang of it for another few years, but she could at least attempt it now, at sixteen.

Leaving the common room, she knew just the object to try it on. Lachlan - an old statue that had been around probably as long as the castle.

"Pi-are-tote-um Lock-oh-mo-tor" she said, practicing the incantation a moment before reaching for wand in its holster. Point at the object. An easy enough wand movement.

Pointing old Lachlan, she swallowed nervously, "Pi-are-tote-um Lock-oh-mo-tor"

Except nothing. Perhaps she was saying it wrong, she did not know, but surely it was something that Professor York could help her hone in terms of casting spells. For now though, she was totally done. As it seemed old Lachlan was done too.
