Astronomy Lesson 1 :: The Moon {formation theory & tides}
The first thing you may notice as you step into the Astronomy classroom on this especially sunny afternoon is that Professor Flamsteed is no where to be seen. Is this another test your constant vigilance or is the man uncharacteristically running late? Which ever the reason, you best find a seat among the large semicircle of desks and follow the instructions on the blackboard that read:

Take out a quill and write your FULL name and year on the piece of parchment provided.
Once you have done so, give it a tap with your wand.
The parchment, enchanted by the professor himself, will turn into a sturdy wood name plaque when you do so.
Did you remember to use the lint roller on the small table outside of the classroom? It was there next to the sign that reads, "Not to be used as a brush for your hair" and has the signature of a former student in the bottom right corner.
So come on in and have a seat. Class will begin....well...as soon as the professor graces you all with his presence.

This lesson has officially started! Please do not announce your character arriving late and just pretend like they have been in class all along. You are free to jump in any time and should use the lesson progression links to keep up.

Evie was definitely not sure what to expect here. She guessed the classes would be harder than her previous schools. Well she hoped. She had blown straight through all the science classes available to her at this point and she really wanted to be challenged in everything. The small brunette stomped into the classroom wearing the galoshes that were encouraged on the noticeboard. But not before using the given lint roller to make sure all the lint was off of her robes. It was her first class at Hogwarts after all.. good impressions needed to be made.
Upon entering she was planning on at least greeting the professor but didn't see anyone who looked like they would be the professor so she just kept walking and found somewhere to sit. And then saw the instructions for names and years.

Nothing to see here, folks. It was just one of your always so cheerful Hufflpuffs. Adi made sure to use the lint roller before happily shuffling into the classroom to come face to face with the usual setting of the room. And look! So MANY peoples! HelloooOOOOooo, peoples!
Who to sit by today? Adi peered over his classes looking at the little firstie Puffer that was Philipe. Excellent! The guy might need help during one of his first ever lessons at Hogwarts.
Adi made a beeline for the boy, waving to Benny and of course, at the awesome dude that was Henric. The sixth year was sure Henric sulking... just look at him. Poor dude. Adi would have to ask what Flamsteed had told him. Speaking of Flamsteed, where was the man? Had he slept away and was late for class? Heh.
Anywayyyy, Adi flopped down into the seat beside Philipe. "Heya, Philipe! All set for your first Astronomy lesson?'' he asked brightly as he eyed the board. Ohh, quill and parchment. Adi got those and wrote:

Next, he tapped the parchment smartly with his wand so that there name plaque. Whyyy did Flamsteed need these? He was quite good with names as far as Adi could tell.
Sophia was beyond excited, it was the first class of Astronomy of the year and she was beyond excited! Racing up the stars toward the tower she pushed a couple of people out of the way, she didn't want to be late for her favorite class, that was unexpectable. As she reached the towers out of breath she walked in she seen that she was early which made her sigh in relief, she hated being late to class, especially her favorite class! Walking up towards Professor Flamsteed's desk she took out a piece of parchment and quill and wrote her name neatly before she gotten out her wand and tapped it.

Seeing Kace she waved at him and gave him a soft warm smile deciding not to bug him seeing how it looked like he was with his girlfriend. Her eyes wondering around the room he seen Lux as she skipped over towards her. "Hiya Luxury Lux! "said Sophia as she hugged her older puffer friend that was like a big sister to her. Seeing Adi she waved at him.

As more people walked in, Lux sent them waves and smiles. It was no surprise to her that Kace chose to sit with Emmy since they were dating. Even though things were still rocky, she felt that they were an adorable couple.

It was Eden!! Happily, Lux hugged her friend the best she could while they were sitting beside each other. "Haaaai!" Even though they had seen each other on the train, they hadn't talked much and yep... She had missed her friend!! Then she was being pulled into a hug of her own. EEEP!! "Hey there, Hugglepuff!!" Smiling, she returned the hug. Maybe she should come up with a nickname of her own for Sophia, but Hugglepuff just fit her too perfectly.
Timmy strolled into the classroom early. She was excited for any astronomy classes. Something about it always caught her attention, besides her Head of House being the professor teaching the class. Quietly taking a seat, the small blonde wondered if Brian or Kate would show up soon. They should! Timmy knew Ollie probably wouldn't. Pfft. Looking up at the board, she squinted and arched an eyebrow. "Well, okay then," she mumbled to herself wrote on the piece of parchment.

Henric wasn't looking forward to Professor Flamsteed's class but he walked in anyway with a heavy sigh. He found a seat...at the back....that was empty and claimed it as his own. He really didn't want to be here, but he had no choice, he had to because he would be seeing Professor Flamsteed personally in his office as soon as the class was over. He noticed the instructions on the noticeboard and looked down on his parchment. Might as well follow whatever his classmates did before he could get in anymore trouble with the Gryffindor Head of House.
He wrote his name with his quill:
Once done, he tap his wand on the parchment and made it into a nametag. He wasn't expecting that but he wasn't going to show his excitement that it changed magically.Henric left it there, and continued sulking and watching silently at the back.
Ilia was rather excited, this would be her first class , in her new school. She had made sure that her robes were proper and pressed and that over all she looked presentable. She brought everything listed upon the notice board in the common room and her 'pet rock', neatly tucked into her black leather satchel. She was early and the professor wasn't here yet, though several of the students were. She scanned around to see where she should sit, not knowing whether any place was better than any other, when she spotted Henric sitting in the back. She smiled slightly and sat herself right next to him. "Good Morning." She said quietly, yet cheerfully. She read the board and settled herself to writing upon her parchment.

She tapped her parchment with her wand upon finishing it and was immediately pleased that it had changed. She fixed it neatly to the corner of her desk and made sure that she had everything else that she would need ready.
Henric noticed Adi waving at him, he waved back but barely. He was still not in the mood to interact with the rest of his classmates just yet so he let himself sunk further down his seat. For a few moments, he paid no mind to the rest of the class and continued fiddling with his name plaque as if it was the most interesting thing in his world right now. He lifted his head when he heard someone moved right next to where he was seated and greeted to him softly. Oh...its none other than his good friend llia. He gave her a small smile back,"Hey, morning..." Henric didn't know what to say to her next. His mind was in complete *blankers*, if ever there was a word for it. He watched her changed her parchment into a her own name plaque and couldn't help smile a little bit more. He liked all this magic stuff truly, because it was a long time he had practiced magic again. He wasn't allowed to back home. "Feels nice to use magic again,huh?"he asked her.

It took him awhile to enter the classroom, having been quite puzzled on what to do with a lint roller. He'd never seen one before, needing to witness another student using it before trying himself. It was an odd invention. Cool, but odd.
Though he felt sparkly new afterwards, so that was nice.
Speaking of the classroom, was this really it?? It didn't look like one. He grinned as the sun hit him, and even more so when choosing a seat near Evie...a little more comfortable being around someone his own age. Check out this VIEW, right!? It took him a moment to register the blackboard and another couple moments to read what was written, but fancy frogs on a fishing trip, they got to use their wands in this class. ALREADY.

There was hesitation to enter the classroom when one Ethan Mordaunt finished cleaning his robe with the lint roller situated near the entrance. He had the option to drop lessons since he’s already a sixth year, but for some reason, he just can’t get Astronomy off of his list.
Weird.
And no Flamsteed? Ethan squinted his eyes, and carefully entered the classroom. The guy must have disillusioned himself like the Headmistress last term? Just to be on the safer side, the sixth year Slytherin situated himself at the back row and eyed everyone in front of him. Merlin. Lots of kids in the classroom, huh? The fair haired teenager’s sight shifted from the tiny heads before him to the blackboard up front.
Uh-huh. And…what’s up with the FULL name thing? Shrugging, Ethan got his quill and scribbled down his name, and once finished, tapped the parchment with his wand.

She approached the Astronomy classroom door, but stopped seeing the lint roller on the table outside of the classroom. Without a word, the fifteen year old took hold of the object & quickly ran it over her robes making sure that there were absolutely none of Sebastian's hairs sticking to her at all.
After a few minutes of using the roller, she felt that she was ready to enter the classroom & the moment she walked into the room, she stopped dead in her tracks. Her eyes widened immediately when they had rested on a certain boy, none other than Ethan Mordaunt. She bit her lip nervously as she stared at him for a only a few moments but snapped herself out of her random trance to quickly find a seat. The Ravenclaw slipped into her seat with ease before picking up her quill to quickly scribble down her wand, then lifted her wand, giving it a light tap.

Yoongi had been pretty interested in this subject seeing as it wasn't teached at Charms school and also because his own Head of House taught it. The only Professor he had met so far and he seemed like an ok dude. Perhaps a bit weird...
He picked up the lint roller and used it like instructed. First day and all, he wanted to leave a good impression. Not to mention that he prefered looking as clean and neat as possible. He just liked his clothes to look as good as himself.
Entering the classroom, the first thing he noticed was that the Professor was not there. He placed down his bag near a chair and pulled out his trusted lip balm from his uniform pocket. He applied it on his lips as he looked around. This was weeird. The Professors at Charms School had always been in class before it started. "he isn’t sick right?" he asked no one in particular.
Anyways, he still had to write down his name so he grabbed a bottle with ink and a quill and began to write.

His very first lesson! Wheee! James was excited and delighted that he was going to be learning something at HOGWARTS. He knew it was going to end up getting boring at some point, but that point was NOT right now! Haaa!
He'd read over the galoshes requirement and had had to resort to using a dictionary to find out what they were. He had none, so he picked up his wellies and brought those instead. He was about to walk into the room when he saw the lint roller and paused. Was this for real? Like, seriously for real? Jay eyed the roller and walked around the thing before entering the classroom and setting down his bright yellow wellies by his chair. He sat down and looked at the parchment.
Picking up his quill and focusing hard, he dipped it in the ink and started to write the way mum had shown him. It was strange not using muggle pens and pencils. They were so much easier. Once he'd written his name, he extracted his wand from his holster for the first time and looked at it. Okay, did he have to do anything special? His blue eyes scanned the paper quickly before he read the instructions again and finally tapped his wand on the paper, muttering "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" to himself. A plaque appeared and James beamed at it. His magic word had worked!

IT WAS TIMEEEEEE! It was time for class... and at least it was Astronomy - which he loved, except for when it was HARD, which granted... was becoming more frequent. On the plus side, Professor Airey was supportive, awesome and just down-right fun... so... he'd keep the subject for now.
After de-linting himself, not that he tried too hard, Zeke entered the class and made his way toward a vacant seat. He KNEW he wasn't late, but he didn't realise he was early - which he was, purely because P. Airey hadn't made an appearance yet - that he knew of.
...
Unpacking his things, Zeke read the instructions on the board and did as instructed.
Quill in hand, he scrawled across the parchment provided.

Angel couldn't believe that the first lesson was already starting, why couldn't they have a week or so to look around the castle and just hang out with friends.
Angel walked into the room. "Hi Professor, did you have a good summer?" Angel smiled as she then went and sat down and wrote her name on the name tag that was provided.
Leah raaan up the final staircase to the Astronomy Tower for her first lesson of the term. She liked the subject even though she was not very good at it. But hey, that was what Hogwarts was for. To LEARN. She used the lint roller outside the classroom, peeking into the room meanwhile only to find a lot of students already seated.
"Hi, Professor..." she said as she walked in, but oh Flamsteed wasn't here? OMG what was wrong? Was he sick? Did something bad happen to him? The Hufflepuff wanted the lesson to begin, so where was he? All she could do was to follow the instructions on the board. Leah took a seat and took out her pretty pair of galoshes before writing her information on the parchment.

So Noel may have climbed all the way up those stairs and waited for him outside the ravenclaw tower. It wasn't the most ideal thing since he had to avoid certain people but he did it anyway.
Once spotted, Noel Wallace threw his arm round his best friend's neck with a large grin and pulled him to the astronomy class. Upon arrival and knowing the gist, Noel came to a halt outside the door and picked up the lint roller and brushed his clothes off before offering it to the ravenclaw beside him.
Pushing past the door, Noel moved to the first empty seat he saw. And oh, no professor space yet. Taking two parchments - one for himself and one for Benzi, Noel settled down.
'Noel Wallace - Fifth year' he wrote and tapped the thing with his wand.

It was time for some learning! Hady was more then ready to get started and welcome any distraction that would keep her mind from racing with a million thoughts of the summer. Upon reaching the room she picked up the lint roller from the desk beside the door and ran it over her already clean robes.
Tucking a stray strand of green hair behind her ear she made her way into the Astronomy room instantly taking notice to two things. One being the Professor hadn't arrived yet...a little strange there but okay. The other being the class was quite full already. Hm.
Searching the room quickly Hady spotted an empty seat and headed that way sitting down. She began to lay out the usual items of parchment, quill, textbook and her wand onto her desk. However this time she also set her new green Pet Rock Elvis onto her desk as well. Perfect. A glance at the board up front told her what was needed now. Grabbing her quill she quickly jotted down the proper info onto the parchment.

Speaking of class, Grayson was here. He'd walked aaaaaaaaaall the way up here from the dungeons, which wasn't an easy feat. Who needed exercise when the stairs were about as likeable as homework and studying and FREAKING LACK OF WIFI. What in the name of Merlin was THAT about?!
ANYWAYS. The Slytherin walked into the classroom, ready to greet Flammy with a YOOOOOOO but......... he wasn't here. Just a buncha students doing their own thing because what else are students gonna do when a professor wasn't here? Did he have a suit emergency or what? Why was he running late? Unless he wasn't. Unless someone had had enough of his rock business and decided to off him.
Anything was possible at Hogwarts.
Shrugging, the seventh year headed over towards a seat and sat down. It was only then that his eyes found the notice, which made him look down at his parchment and take out his writing equipment. Scribble scribble..........

First leasson of the year, Love it! Margo was excited to be back into these lessons. She had missed Hogwarts so much! She didn't realize how much she did until she got back here. So obeying the rules of the class Margo lint rolled all of the lint off her robes, or so she hoped she had gotten it all and bounced into the class room door.

Astronomy. Benzi liked astronomy. He'd gotten an 'E' in it and everything. He would have gotten an 'O' had it not been for his temporary lapse into insanity during the exam. Oh well. An 'E' was still good.
... Blinking when he was handed the roller, it took him a few seconds to remember that this was one of Professor Airey Flamsteed's rules. Also there was a sign. DUH Benzi. Rolling it over himself, he handed it to the next kid and took his seat beside Noel. Quickly writing down his name, he wondered if the Professor would happen to remember him.
Best write down his name anyways.

The first Astronomy lesson of the term....and Gabriel was READY to jump back in!
Pausing just outside to take care of the lint!rolling business...which was a chore as his arms were sore this afternoon, he proceeded in and grabbed a seat. Close to the front of the room, too...Gabe wasn't ashamed to admit. He was here to learn, okay? Not sleep. That clearly required the best vantage point.
Settling his bag down, he took his time with writing out his name, using it as a relaxation technique. It wasn't conventional...but even with the potions, Gabe still got a little anxious. So, best to get it where he could. After he was finished, he tapped the parchment as instructed...watching it transform.

First Lesson and bam Name Tags. Dante was a fan of the name tags. They lead to some fun if the Professor did not care to know your name that early in the year. But then the fun wears off as the Professor finds out your name or cares enough to look it up.
Professor Q at least has run with it for a whole year.

Stella managed to find her way to the Astronomy classroom by following the crowd again. Her headache felt a little better now that she'd taken another dose of the pain relieving potion her mum had given her. She was excited for her first class. She was pretty good at astronomy. Mostly because Ima was an astronomy nut. There was a reason her and Aster's names literally meant star.
Though a bit odd at first, once she considered it, Stella liked the idea of the lint roller. You never knew who had allergies and it didn't hurt to keep yourself neat. She did wonder what the sign meant though, and why the word "not" had been scribbled out. Stella ran the lint roller over her uniform and wasn't surprised when it came away with cat hair on it that she hadn't seen on her clothing. Oh the joys of wearing black and having a cuddly black cat.
Stella sat down in front of Echo, the second year she'd talked to last night. She pulled out her self inking quill and wrote her name and year down on the parchment. Then she eagerly pulled out her wand and tapped the parchment, surprised when it changed into a wooden plaque. She'd seen the ones on the other students' desks, but still. This was one of her first bits of magic and she was excited at the novelty of it.
After she put her textbook on her desk, Stella was all set. She turned around in her seat to say hi to Echo and the older kids she was sitting with. She was pretty impressed that Echo was sitting with prefect and three other older students and she looked totally comfortable. It was the kind of thing Aster would do.
"Hey, Echo. Nice to see you again," Stella said to her housemate. "Hello Mr. Prefect (Caleb), other people (Sophie, Kace, Emmy, Cinnamon). It's nice to meet you."

While the professor is still no where to be seen, a large spherical form suddenly reveals itself to the class. Floating well above your head, there are no distinguishing features on the rocky looking sphere to give you any indication as to what it may represent...but surely inquisitive minds like yourselves already have a few theories swimming through your heads.
Spinning rapidly on its axis, the large sphere - approximately 5 meters in diameter - is actually quite dull to look at once you have gotten over ooh-ing and awe-ing at its sudden appearance.
However, a few minutes later the low hissing sound of something whizzing through the air catches your attention and suddenly there is another sphere (about half the size of the first) hurtling itself towards the first.
"DUCK AND COVER!" the professor shouts from the doorway to the classroom in his usual suit attire.
In just enough time for you to get under your desk, the smaller sphere CRASHES into the first, sending bits of rocky - but surprisingly soft and squish to those who actually get hit with some of it - in various directions. The debris that does not propel itself towards desks results in a disk of orbiting material around the large sphere while the smaller sphere has seemingly, well, gone completely KABOOM.
And is it just you...or has the spinning of the large sphere....slowed down a little? Perhaps it is just the shock of a collision playing tricks on you.
Looking quite pleased with himself despite the obvious dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep, the Astronomy professor picked walked by the table holding the lint roller - failing to notice the change on the sign for now - and shut the door behind him. "Nothing like starting the term off with a BANG, I always say," he chuckled as he strolled to the front of the room and stood beside the blackboard.
"Hello everyone and welcome to Astronomy. For those of you who are new among us, I am Professor Flamsteed - although you may call me Professor Airey if you prefer. If you all could please take your seats and cease all side conversations so that we may begin properly that would be absolutely stellar." Yes? Thank you.
"Now," he said, clasping his hands together rather dramatically while he bounced giddily in place. "Just what was all THAT about, do you think?" he asked, gesturing towards the above sphere and all the floating debris around it. "Oh yes, name plates where I can see them."
So he could actually call upon new students by their names rather then "you" or "that Ravenclaw" or what have you.
OOC: Class has officially begun! Please do not post your character arriving after this point unless you are willing to accept any IC consequences that may occur
You do not need to wait for Professor Flamsteed to call on your student to answer, just go ahead and have your character raise their hand and assume that he has done do. Remember, wrong answers count just as much as correct ones, so do not feel like you HAVE to be right. Let your character speak for themselves and get creative!
