Thornton was taking some time before charms to sit in the corridor and write a letter home to his sister. Sitting on the floor, Thornton rested a book against his knees, leaning on it, his quill scratching at the parchment.

Dipping his quill into the inkwell near his foot, Thornton bit his lip, trying to decide what of the opening feast and first days to share.

Caleb had WANTED to use this free time to brush up on his charms before class started, but sadly he was not going to be able to do that now. He supposed he COULD carry around his charms book, but he felt like that wouldn't be very safe - he'd probably walk into someone.

Which is what he did anyways. Without any book or anything to distract him.

Not paying attention to where he was going, he accidentally tripped over the feet of a kid who was sitting on the floor, writing something in his book. GAHHH why was he here?! Didn't he knew they had a library? Caleb ALMOST killed him. For real.

"Sorry about that...wouldn't you rather sit at a table and do that?" he asked, raising a dark eyebrow. He didn't mean to sound all...accusatory towards the kid, but every minute Caleb was NOT studying, he was panicking about OWLs. He seriously needed to start drinking calming tea or something, his anxiety was going berserk...

Thornton was only mildly aware of the older boy coming down that hall as he continued his letter home. That was, at least, until his feet were kicked and the boy tripped.

Eyes wide, Thornton quickly put his parchment and quill down and scrambled to his feet. He cast a quick glance down to make sure the inkwell had not spilled or cracked. He nudged it with his foot to slide it against the wall. Looking up, Thornton looked just a little panicked. Because that was a prefect's badge. "My sincerest apologies," he said, looking down at his feet. "Completely my own fault."

He dropped to the ground to gather his supplies and pack them back in his bag. "You're absolutely right, I should have gone to the library or stayed in the common room."

Uh oh. That hadn't been what Caleb had wanted - he just wanted the kid to apologize, not grovel at his feet. Literally. Caleb did not do well with stuttering and anxious children. All anger gone, he quickly shook his head and waved his hands.

"No no no, it's ok. It was an accident. I was just...wondering why you were THERE, and not at a table, is all. I mean....there's no rule against it or anything," he assured the boy with a soft smile. There, see? He was nice. Not a Big Bad Prefect!

Thornton stuffed everything back in his bag, and threw the strap over his shoulder as he stood. While sitting in corridors was his preference, it had clearly not been a wise choice today.

He continued to shake his head, though his voice was steady. "No, I should picked somewhere more out of the way, especially since people will walk this way for class soon." He had made an error in judgment, and it had caused an accident.

Caleb wasn't sure how else to try and comfort the boy. He seemed...very hard on himself. Hmm. He glanced at the blue robes - Ravenclaw, of course - and wondered if the boy was such a perfectionist that he couldn't even accept that maybe it had been CALEB's fault, for being stupid and not looking where he was going and being kind of cranky today as well.

"It's really ok. I'm not going to report you to Truebridge or anything, I promise," he added with a small smile. "I should have been looking where I was going. I'm just...well, still brooding a bit on our point loss from the feast, if I'm entirely honest," he added with another smile. He was trying to be joking with the boy and hopefully it would work. Was he a first year? He wasn't sure...definitely young.

Angel suddenly smiled as she looked around for a stray cat and now, she had a few thing to do for this homework, she wasn't really interested in this sort of divination but she wanted to try and do a few thing.

Angel suddenly saw washing its face and stuff, now what was that supposed to mean, luckily she had brought her book, she turned to the right page.

He was on his way back to class when he had a brain wave. The Hospital Wing had people in it ALL the time. Surely they'd like visitors? Right? And visitors that asked questions were EVEN BETTER. So he was on his way. Yep. He surely had enough time to get this done before he had to return to class.

Parchment on his book, and his pen in his pocket, Zeke walked down the third floor corridor determined to interrogate someone.

She was doing weird things lately. Sitting on the stairs was one of those weird things, sitting on the floor of the third floor hallway was the next. But, she reasoned, the floor wasn't liable to start moving all crazy on her. And there were plenty of interesting things to watch from here.

For instance, the number of people who wore red shoes. There were a lot. No jokes. No lies. Red was a popular trend. Not so much as the amount of people who had neon shoelaces. Those she had lost count of. Barefooted had come up to three so far. Sandals only to two. And high heels. She didn't get those, but they were up to ten.

And then there were these shoes. Simple, reserved yet with a characteristic, quirky step. Amur glanced up, up and not so far up before her eyes rested on Zeke's face. A grin split her lips and she waved. "Hey, Zeke!"

He was totally going to ace this, he HAD to ace this. HAD TO. No if's or but's about it. He had been looking out for people for what felt like AGES, cause, twenty minutes had passed already? Whoops... but then there was an Amur! Perhaps he wouldn't have to invade the Hospital Wing after all.

"Hey!" he greeted brightly. Was she looking at his shoes before? What was wrong with them?! WERE THEY BEING LOUD?! What was she doing out of class? Or did she not have one right now? ANYYYWAAAYYYSS. "Uuhhh... mind if I ask you a question?" he asked. "It's for Arithmancy, I need to survey people so I can do these Major Life Cycle calculation THINGS." Yeah, something like that. Mmhhmm. So could he???

Amur blinked at Zeke. "No. Why would I mind? I like questions."

How did he not know that? She asked a lot of them. All the time.

Shifting her weight a little, Amur turned to face him properly. "It's a what now?" Major. Life. Cycle. Calculation....things? For, Arithmancy? Wasn't that math? Amur groaned, and eyed the boy. "As long as you don't ask me to do any formulas. I'm no good at them."

But then this was Zeke, and for Zeke....sigh. "Or, I suppose you can ask me that too. But!" She held up a finger. "No promises I'll be any good at it, or come up with the right answer."

Fair warning fellow Gryffindor. Fair warning.

Ahem. "So....what's your question?"

Yeah, it was a silly question, it'd have made more sense if he'd had just skipped to his PROPER question, not to mention it'd have been far more efficient where time was concerned. Zeke nodded, "I should have known better," really, he should have. Of all the people he was asking, it was her, and she usually asked as many questions as he did. It was exactly the kind of thing she could appreciate.

But uuuuhhh... no asking her formulas then. Nope. Not that there was like a proper legit all out complex formula to these things. Numbers were just numbers, and Arithmancy was shaping up to be FAR EASIER than muggle math. "I won't, promise," he said smiling, "it's actually quite easy, I could teach you some time," he added.

Alas... his question. He should get to that.

"Uhh yeah.... what's your birth date?" he asked, his expression very serious and totally innocent despite the unusual question. So... what was it? Pulling his pen out of his pocket, he pressed to his parchment, ready to note down the significant date. Mmmhhhmm.

"Yup, you should have." While questions were good, and she enjoyed them, it was a rule of asking questions that if one was going to ask a question, they shouldn't precede it by asking another question. It made for confusing times.

But this didn't sound confusing, and Amur went to her feet, curious as to what he was going to ask her that had to do with Arithmancy but not formulas. She eyed the paper on his clipboard, glancing between him and it. "I appreciate the offer, but it depends on what you are offering to teach."

Because she wasn't going to agree to learn something that she would end up hating.

But....birth date? Amur blinked at him. "Why do you want to know---" She caught the look on his face: the look of business. Swallowing her own question, Amur shifted from one foot to the next. "October 11, 2075."

She eyed his pen, waiting for it to move. The question wouldn't be restrained. "Whhhyyyy?"

At least he'd know for next time. Yep. No repeating same mistakes... he learnt from THIS one at least.

It was funny that she wasn't JUMPING FOR JOY to learn some, and he could make the assumption that if it was a spell he was offering to teach, that she'd be all over it and then some. Alas... Arithmancy just didn't draw in the crowd. Shame too, cause it was turning out to be easier than well.. half of his other subjects. "It's super easy basic math stuff that can tell you things about what you're good at and where your life is going and what you'll do and things like that." Yep. It was pretty awesome, and so much more legit than that Divination stuff.

BUT!

Zeke scribbled down the date on his parchment, then reduced down the numbers since he was at it.

"I need it to calculate your life cycle numbers..." he replied, somewhat distracted by the math.

"Thanks, this is super helpful." And so like, that was all. That was it. She was free to do whatever it was she was doing a moment ago.

"Nothing is super-easy-basic-math-stuff." She muttered, leaning forward a little so she could peer at what he was writing. So far he hadn't shooed her back, so she assumed it was safe to stick her nose in his business. Quite literally. And it had to do with her, so technically it was her business too. "So, Divination...by numbers?"

Divination by cats was hard enough, and she liked cats. Divination by numbers and formulas though? That, just the mere thought of that made her head hurt. Still, she was curious as to how numbers and her birth date could tell all of that, so she leaned forward a little bit more.

Life. Cycle. Numbers. Five. ......Five. FIVE?!

Amur stared wide eyed at the page and abruptly pointed at the figure. "What do you mean five life cycles? Does that mean I only have five more years to live? Or is it five more decades? No....they say it takes seven years to master something, so that must mean a life cycle. So if its five of those that would mean I've only got...." She counted it out on her fingers...."Thirty....thirty...thirty-five?!"

But no, not even! She was already one life cycle done. One and a half done! So that meant... why was math so hard? She counted back on her fingers. Thirty-five minus seven was twenty-eight, minus three was twenty-five. Add eleven. Her heart dropped into her stomach and her voice squeaked out. "I've only got till I'm thirty-six?"

She did not like this Arithmancy thing one bit.

What Austin was doing on the third floor was a mystery to even himself. He had some free time after dinner, and decided to stroll the halls. He had talked to a few of the moving paintings, wondered up and down the moving staircases, and had somehow ended up here. He leaned his elbows on one of the window sills, and glanced out at the setting sun. The grounds were peaceful at this time of evening. The lake was settling, the snow had melted a little, but there was still enough of it to hide the frozen ground. Even the forbidden forest looked peaceful with the orange sky behind it. Austin had heard stories about how unpleasant it was, but he couldn't believe any of it with this view.

He wondered what other students were up to. Were they out soaking up the last of the rays of sun, before the grounds became even colder? Were some doing work before they headed off to bed? Such random thoughts. But there really wasn't much to do in the castle. It was better when you had friends to be with. Sure, he had Ophelia, but she was doing work, or sleeping or something. Whatever it was, he hadn't seen her in a while. They had an odd habit of not seeing each other for a week or so and then going on a wild adventure. It wasn't much, but it was something.

The truth was, was that Austin didn't make many friends. He had only made one friend, Ophelia, and had punched the guy who tried to push that relationship any further. He wondered what Gregoire was up to now a days. He had seen The Snake in potions class a few times, but that was about it. Although it really was to be expected since they were in different houses.

Angel now had time to move, she was totally happy now that it seemed like the lessons had finished for the year and well she didn't have any exams, though where was time flying because next year she was going to be in her fourth year and well it just seemed like yesterday that they were just starting at Hogwarts, this was getting very scary... very fast.

Angel decided to sit down on the floor whilst she started to think about a few things, she had a feeling if anyone came by now she probably wouldn't notice with everything she was thinking about.

Abby was wandering back up to the common room and she wasnt paying attention to where she was walking and just about tripped up over her sister Angel and said "Hey Angel what you doing down on the floor for" Abby hadnt seen her sister in a while but she was glad that lessons were over for the year and it was rather scary to think that next year she would be a fourth year seemed like only yesterday that she was a firstie at hogwarts

Angel was just thinking about things when she suddenly felt her knee throbbing, at least the person hadn't hit her head, because that would have hurt. "Hey Abby." Angel hadn't seen her sister for a few month. "I'm just thinking about different things." Angel then looked up at her sister. "What you doing up there?" Angel decided that she might as well ask her sister a question.

Abby half smiled at her sister and said "Well actually i was heading back up to my common room for your information Angel"

Angel stuck her tongue out at Abby. "That's cool, I was trying to figure out where time was going, next year we will be fourth years and it seems so unbelievable." Angel sighed, seriously soon they would be doing OWL's and trying to figure out what they wanted to study after they left school.

Abby nodded and said "Yeah time seems to be flying i am not ready to be a fourth year yet and do not stick you tongue out at me again" Abby didn't like it when Angel was cheeky with her
