The door to a mysterious door on the fifth floor swings open to reveal a dank and dusty room which has clearly been vacant for years. White sheets cover the furniture, cobwebs fill every nook, cranny, corner, and everything in between, including a cup filled with wooden potion stirrers. The heavy scent of mildew permeates every aspect of the room. For some reason, all you can do is stand and stare inside.
Though the door swung open easily, a strange barrier once again prohibits the living from entering this room. The barrier was put in place by Marcella Riddle the term after her unfortunate demise and protected the peace and quiet of the ghosts still residing at Hogwarts. The room has on off since laid quietly in the years since the young Hogwarts ghosts reattained their bodies.

After making special arrangements with the Hogwarts ghosts, the barrier to the Spirit Room has been temporarily removed to allow the living to enter for tonight's festivities. One of the tables in the back has been cleaned off and instead of cobwebs and other questionable looking remains of......something...there is an array of Halloween treats and beverages - the majority of which are pumpkin based (thank you, students, for all your pumpkin guts and seeds!). There is even a little side table full of rotten food, but it is not recommended that you eat that.
Looking for the pumpkins you carved in class? Simply look up. They have been charmed to float above to mimic the night sky with their eerie glow. Just ignore that there are repeats of the same constellations - your professor is.
While the standard Halloween parties games of bobbing for apples and shrunken head bowling are present to one side of the room, the other side has a more academic feel about it. Here you will see a long table filled with flower pots containing little plant saplings that have only just broken the surface of the soil. Beside the station is a blackboard with instructions.

The Spirit Room?
He'd been confused by that the moment Professor Airey had mentioned it in class... but NOW, he was even more confused. People COULDN'T go in there. They just couldn't. It was NOT possible! He'd even tried.
However, the extra credit notice was very clear with directions, and there was no mistaking that it said they could enter, and so here he was to test the theory.
Dressed in a make-shift space-themed poor attempt at a solar system costume, Zeke braced himself in front of the threshold and peered inside. It was different, it was LIVEly... ZOMG THEY COULD GO IN! He didn't waste a second longer standing around, he entered and his hazel eyes explored every inch of the ceiling before falling on everything else. Wow... just, wow.
Awesome.
Cool.
Wicked.
Amazing.
HE WAS IIIIIINNNNNN THE SPIRIT ROOM!!!!
His jaw hung open a fraction as a grin spread across his face, lifting his cheeks and bringing a spark to his eyes.
"He-hello, Professor." Yeah, yeah, he was amazed, what was even more amazing was that he actually managed to get words out.

Adi was curious. Dressed in his costume which he had done his best to duplicate, he stepped in. Of course the first thing he noticed was the food. He paused for a moment to examine it all. "Pumpkpin,'' he determined. Yep, pumpkin stuff. Anyway, he was going to sink his teeth into that later. Glancing up, that's when he noticed allll the pumpkins that they'd carved in class. That was so cool! And there were games also! Man! This was going to be fun!
Ah looky! Zeke was already here. The Hufflepuff wondered if the Gryffindor had noticed him. Reaching the younger boy, he gave him a light poke. "Hiya, Zeke.'' He wasn't too sure how he sounded... the helmet was on his head. Hehe.

So, the Spirit Room.
A few years ago Lux wouldn't have been caught dead (hehe) here, but look at her now. Dressed up in her Halloween costume, the redhead scanned the room while making sure to avoid the rotten food because ewww. Oh, hello friends. Waving, she made her way over to Zeke and Adii "Hey, guys. Looking good." Space costumes were kinda cute and she pulled off a fairly decent shooting star if she said so herself.
Oh gooooosh, their pumpkins were floating overhead. Craning her neck upwards, she tried to make out hers but it seemed that a few others had chosen to do Gemini as well.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Cilla cautiously entered The Spirit Room with a Cassiopeia inspired costume. She took ages deciding what to wear and then making it. As she adjusted her blonde wig she shyly smiled at her fellow students. She was a bit jealous of how amazing their costumes looked.
She wasn't really feeling much like partying so she headed for a quiet corner.

It wasn't really his usual choice in costume... No, certainly not. But extra credit for dressing up in a relevant costume and well, with the looks of the house points at the moment... It was needed. A small sacrifice for this particular lion, but a huge step for lionkind? Or something like that. But he had worked pretty hard on his particular getup actually. He had managed to put together a nice big blue, spherical-planet shaped... thing.
But of course it wouldn't be easy to tell what he was dressed up as without the ring! So he had attached a bright hula hoop around the center of his costume to add the finishing touch. All together it looked pretty funky, but hopefully people would be able to tell what look he was going for. Which was a planet. Well, one particular planet actually. One that he knew how to pronounce properly now thankyouverymuch. This Gryffindor wasn't playing tomato today!
Waddling his way into the room-- bulky costumes meant hard to walk in, ok?-- he struggled his way over to Professor Flamsteed, BUT finally got there in the end. "Guess what I am Professor!" Actually, no. He wasn't going to wait for the guess. "I'm yoo-RAIN-us, see?" He had learned.

His back to the entrance of the Spirit Room for the time being - mostly because he was currently stuffing his face with roasted pumpkin seeds - the Astronomy professor turned around to face the small group of students that were trickling in and greeted them properly.
"Happy Cross-Quarter Day," he said, trying his best to keep his expression stoic but failing miserably when he saw what Mr. Adair was wearing.
Oh sweet solstice.
Laughter subsiding, he gestured towards the food and party games. "Come on in and enjoy yourselves. Extra credit is in that direction." And pumpkin seeds were right over here...but he wasn't sure he wanted to share those just yet.

Cilla meandered towards the food. She had a lot on her mind and it was making her feel miserable. She had received a letter from her parents and the contents of that letter had put a downer on things.
Cilla sighed miserably as she picked up a pumpkin pastie.
Puck made her way to the Halloween party and grinned when she spotted everyone’s attire. Running a hand over the fabric of her own costume she couldn’t help but smile. Her dress sparkled and shimmered as it shifted not unlike the night sky, as well, that was what she had been intending to go as.
“Hello Captain,” she grinned at Professor Flamsteed as she entered the room and glanced around at the other’s costumes. “Zeke nice costume,” She grinned at the younger Gryffindor “nice Adi,” she grinned and then beamed at Luz when she spotted her. “You look so cute Lux,” she chuckled and glanced around. Honestly Zander’s costume was EPIC the most EPIC considering how he’d pronounced it in class.
“Nice Zander,” Puck grinned and made her way in for the extra credit and the food…there was going to be food right?

Margo was excited for this litter party!!! She couldn't wait, she loved Halloween and was so happy to being doing something that wasn't Homework or lessons for a while......well this was sort of homework, but not really! So there was something about potted plants on the board, but Margo wasn't ready to think about new charms or spells yet. She just wanted to enjoy her time.
Dressed as a Surgeon, complete with blue scrubs, a scrub cap, a white doctor coats and a stethoscope around her neck Margo bounced in! "Hello Professor, thanks for throwing the party! I love pumpkin seeds!!!" Margo added grabbing a handful of her own! This is why she wanted to keep some from carving her pumpkin before, clearly the gesture wasn't needed!

When Professor Airey mentioned that extra credit was THAT WAY... as in, over where he was pointing too... Zeke found it difficult to choose between points and food. WHICH came first? Obviously he'd have them both, but there were decisions to be made here.

And THERE was a brave person, coming as a non-aeronomy related Halloween costed person. That took guts, didn't it? He thought so at least.

Margo smiled at Adi "Hey there Big Bro!" She said moving a little closer to him in order to avoid shouting across the way. "I love this party already!!! Halloween is great!" Margo couldn't stop smiling, she was having the time of her life.
Then Margo heard another person talking to her. "Thanks, before I was accepted at Hogwarts I wanted to be a doctor, and now I would love to be a healer." Margo told Zeke. Oh boy, she was just giving out information to some one she hadn't really met before. "I'm Margo by the way." She added with a smile and a hand shake.

Okay so Ben hadn't really thought on Halloween and having a costume for the autumn holiday. But then Professor Flamsteed's assignment had been posted and there had been mention of a costume requirement for the little party he was hosting and so the fifth year had to actually debate on what he wanted to do. A couple of owls home and bam he had what he considered almost like a space jumpsuit based on what they had seen last term on their field trip.
After a few personal modifications, the Gryffindor was ready and headed down to the spirit room. It felt weird to finally enter the place given its history but alas it wasn't too different than any other place in the castle. Airey was there of course and Zeke and Zander and Puck his housemates were present and accounted for among others including a space suited person. "Good evening Professor," he said, greeting the man before choosing to wander the place to see what was up.
Oh wait...the suited figure was Adi. Grabbing some food on a plate he headed towards his best friend. "Hey..."
Resident Ghost of Gryffindor | Chivilrous & Sociable
Making his presence known by his flamboyant entrance through the wall, Sir Nicholas tipped his head to the side and laughed deeply. "My dear friends. Welcome, welcome ... so glad you could come ...." he waved to students as he glided confidently towards the Astronomy professor. "Mighty fine Hallowe'en festivities you have here, Professor Flamsteed," he noted with a casual glance around the room. The ghost was almost willing to overlook the date and its significance for certain others.
Kace decided to go to the extra credit assignment for Professor Airey. As he made his way into the Spirit Room fashionably late as usual and due to the fact he needed some time for his costume. He wondered if anyone would notice it was him. He saw Puck in her costume and he grinned and decided to sneak up on her. He tapped her shoulders and said, "You know for a costume that is too original.." She couldn't see him smile but she knew he was kidding.
He also saw Nearly Headless Nick was here. He nodded towards him and listened to what he had to say.

Kate loved dressing up for Halloween! She looked forward to each new Halloween season, because that meant she could choose another costume and have fun dressing up. Oh, and there was candy. She could never forget the Halloween candy. As soon as she had seen the announcement about the party, she'd started on her costume right away. She had decided to dress in a solar system costume that featured the constellation Cepheus on the shirt and all eight planets plus Pluto on the pants. Then of course she'd accessorized with a starry night bow.
Kate walked in dressed from head to toe in her costume. She looked around the room in search of anybody she knew, but some were unrecognizable in their costumes. She took in the rest of the directions then, and even saw their pumpkins from class floating above them. Awesome! Kate decided to take a look around and see what else the party had to offer.

Holy Merlin, it was quite festive in here tonight, innit? The Friar was by the table where all the delicious smelly rotten food was laid out. He heard Nicholas welcome the students and the professor, and he echoed after him. "Hello, what a lovely night to be gathered all here for some fancy pumpkin feast." And whatever that other long table was for. He floated around the room, getting away from the food for now, and admiring all those killer costumes.

Awww, Zeke was adorable with his lame jokes. Haha, he made her laugh. "I like your costume. I considered going as Saturn but felt the costume made me look fat." Haha, nothing wrong with admitting that. The idea for the WHOLE solar system as a costume hadn't occurred to her, but she was rather fond of being a shooting star so it was all good. Seemed that she wasn't the only one that liked the costume, because Adi was complimenting her. "Thanks! You look really nice too." He pulled off an astronaut very well.
Spotting Professor Flamsteed, she happily returned the gesture which she assumed was a form of greeting relating to Star Trek. "Live long and prosper, sir." Even if she wasn't very familiar with the series, she DID know that line. "This party looks amazing!" Rotten food aside, of course. Her attention turned to the area for the Extra Credit assignment before Nearly Headless Nick joined them. "Happy cross-quarter day, Sir Nicholas. I hope you are well."
More people arrived, and Lux waved to Zander, Puck, Margo, Benny, and Kace in turn. "Looking good, guys!" She liked how Margo and Kace had done their own thing instead of wearing something related to Astronomy. "I didn't know you liked the Power Rangers," she told Kace before laughing as he snuck up on Puck.
Hearing the Fat Friar, Lux turned her attention to him. "Happy cross-quarter day, Friar. How are you?" He was her House Ghost and seemed really nice - no surprise since he HAD been a Hufflepuff.

She wiped away a tear and then said, "I'm Cilla, by the way."

Cilla looked up and saw a Hufflepuff and sighed sadly.
"I don't feel much like partying. Everyone has great costumes and I rushed to sew the dress together and sew the pattern on it, by hand. It looks awful! Why would anyone want to hang out with me?! I have also received word from my folks at home that isn't helping my mood."
She wiped away a tear and then said, "I'm Cilla, by the way."
As Lux was with her friends, she couldn't help overhearing one of the girls she didn't know talking to Adi. She didn't sound very happy and that was sad because everyone should have a great time while at a party - especially if costumes are involved.
Hoping she could help cheer the girl up, Lux joined the two. "I think you have a very nice costume," she told her truthfully. "You did a very good job sewing it; I couldn't sew for the life of me. And I'm sure everyone here would like to hang out with you." Honest. Everyone here was so nice.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when

Smiling at the girl, Lux nodded. "Yeah, it's really nice. How long have you been sewing?" She didn't know many people that could do sewing besides her mother, and she had always been so dreadful at it that she had given up when she was younger. "I'm Lux," she added. She didn't really know this girl but she had seen her around in different classes.

So was it just him or did Professor Flamsteed start laughing just as soon as he saw Zander? Definitely not coincidental... Right? Though he had put his costume together in hopes that others would understand why exactly he had come dressed like this. And maybe the laughter just proved that? Mayyyybe? Plus, it'd give him a chance to show that he learned how to say things the proper way now. Anyways, waddling was happening. Despite the fact that the costume was made pretty darn well, he only had two holes for his legs to go through and that didn't give much freedom for movement. Rather restricting.
"I thought you might like it, Professor!" The Gryffindor grinned. Normally, the laughter would send him off into a very bright red mess. But it was kind of expected and even a little intentional this time... So he'd live with it. And oh, extra credit, eh? He could do that! Maybe not easily considering the er, choice of attire, but he'd try? "Are we allowed to get started on that, right now?"
