The Seating Area Outside Professor Flamsteed's Office
Several comfortable looking black leather sofa chairs await you in the small nook outside of Professor Flamsteed's office. The walls are bare save for a framed magazine cover and a large map on the wall opposite of the sofa chairs. Since the Astronomy professor keeps his door shut at all times, you will need to knock if you wish to speak with him. You could try to remove the protective charms placed on the door and break in, but that would not be very wise on your part as you would walk away with lime green eyebrows that won't fade for days and hair growing out of your ears down to the floor. While you wait to be invited in, why not read the latest issue of one of the many astronomy magazines stacked neatly on the wooden coffee table? StarDate Observer or Meteorite Mementos anyone? Do be careful as you take a seat, though. Despite the valiant efforts of students last term you are likely to walk away with a sparkly pink bum thanks to some left over glitter wedged between the cushions.
OOC: Please post in this thread FIRST, by having your character knock on the door. When the professor is ready to invite you in, I will post here letting you know and then you can post in the office. You may RP with friends here, but please try to keep the chit chat to a minimum. Thank you!

Lex....felt like she was on a sugar rush. It was possible she was on a sugar rush, COULD YOU SEE HER BOUNCING???? Any minute now she'd stop of course but at the moment she was SOOOO excited. Finally she'd get into the Restricted Section and it would be legit. No getting kicked out, no costing her house points just her and all the books on the dark arts she could stuff into her brain before she had to leave. Could things get any better? She wasn't sure they could...in fact no they couldn't. She'd been waiting for this for yeeeaaars. Years of Romanos telling her maybe next term. There was no next term after this one and she was glad Professor Airey realized this without her having to point this out.
Knock. KNOCK. KNOCK.
...Maybe she'd need to bang louder? She could you know. This was some serious stuff. Her future happiness depended on the Professor handing her the most beautiful gift ever; that permission slip.

Stopit Lex, he was probably on his way to open it, or out...he might not be in his office--or SLEEPING!!! KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. "Professssooooorrrrr? You in there???" Sweet Merlin he didn't drop dead before giving her the slip did he??? Don't knock. Don't knock again Lex. No.

Start of term staaaaaaaaaart of term!
Airey was in the middle of doing some lesson preparation in his office when the initial knock came on his door. Well, KNOCKS as it were. Putting one of his comic books down on his desk - yes, reading comic books WAS actually legitimate preparation for the term - he moved to stand up when even MORE knocking came. And more. And more. AND MORE.
"Hold your comets, I'm coming," he exclaimed as he tucked an issue of Molecule Man under his arm and made his way to the door...with MORE knocking rattling his door. Someone was certainly eager, and he was tempted to think it was Miss Wisteria at first coming to discuss their special arrangement, but the knock on his door was no Hufflepuff Hogwartian knock. His door was being Gryffindor'd right now.
A thought that was confirmed by the voice that came next.
"Yes, YES, Miss Cambridge. I am in," he chuckled after opening the door. "If you enjoy banging on things so much, perhaps you should invest in a drums set?" Maybe he should have put one of those in the common room instead of a piano...hmmm...

Just to be sure...she was gonna knock again. Yeah. It was for the best. Perhaps the Professor had fallen asleep at his table after the night they all had in the Common Room. She wouldn't blame him, but she WOULD bang his door down if that's what it took. No neeeeeeed though because he answered!!!
The moment the door swung open there was a wide grin waiting to greethim. "I like you being in your office Professor, I do." But only because this is where he said she should come and like...if she'd come and he wasn't in...Merlin he might have come back to find he didn't have a door anymore. She'd apologize of course but clearly it would be his fault. "I've never considered drums...when things get loud I like them to explode shortly after if you know what I mean."
So...was she just...gonna stand here smiling or was he gonna hand her the golden ticket that would make all her cursing dreams come true?
She cleared her throat but didn't remove the grin. Permission. Give the permisssionnnnn.

Propping open the door with his body, the astronomer leaned against it with his right shoulder and folded his arms across his chest in an amused manner. "Yes, I do recall a certain admiration for all things that go boom," he smirked with a subtle eyebrow wiggle. He could still remember the exploding furniture down by the lake. "Let's try not to blow anything up until class, yeah?"
See? He did keep promises.
"How about you step into my office. I'll get a mug of hot chocolate ready for you."
Unless for some earth shattering reason Miss Cambridge had disowned hot chocolate and no longer wish to drink it anymore. In which case Airey was fairly certain that the apocalypse was upon them.

Angel was sad that her new head of house was mad at her, seriously she wanted Professor Bentley so that she could cry on her shoulder, her sister had started it, okay so she shouldn't have retaliated like she did but she thought she needed to show her sister than she couldn't walk all over her, but maybe next time she'll just cry and run behind a Professor she'd decide when and if it happened again, saying that her head of house suits would make a nice tissue.
Angel decided that she owed the Head of her House an apology for her actions, she didn't want him thinking she was crazy when she wasn't really she had just been shocked and angry about what had happened.

Angel sighed as she waited to see if the Professor was in, she hoped he was.

Was it strange that the biggest reason that he wanted to get back to school as soon as possible was because he wanted his hat back. He was very determined in that if he said so himself. That was why Kevin walked from the common room to the seating area outside of the Astronomy's Professor's office in the early morning.
Upon reaching the door, the third year Gryffindor had to control himself to not bang on the door like crazy. Something he did in his first year but he was older now so he simply knocked a few times but after that he did NOT turn around to take a seat and wait. Instead he folded his arms over each other and put on his tough guy face, waiting in front of the door.

Lying down comfortable on his sofa reading a book, Airey paused mid-sentence when he heard the first knock at the door - partly because he had been hoping that it had just been a sound of his imagination - but when the second one came there was no denying it. Placing his leather bookmark on the page and quickly skimming the rest of the sentence to end on a period, the suited astronomer made his way to the door and flung it open.
"Ah, Miss Valentine," he greeted with a small smile. "What can I do for you?"

Hopping up from his desk, he made his way over to the door and swung it open. Yep. Nailed it.
"Good day, Miss Wisteria. I was hoping you would stop by. I have materials waiting for you in my office with your name on them." Quite literally, actually. "If you would care to step inside, that is."

Now this was a knock he did not recognize. Judging from the gently and simplicity of said knock, Airey wrote it off as the knock belonging to a curious first year. So you can imagine the surprise plastered on his face when he opened the door to see Mr. Hirase standing right there under his nose.
"Mr. Hirase, I must say that I am impressed," he beamed down at the young man, not a single trace of sarcasm in his tone by the way.

Angel looked down at her feet as the Professor opened the door. "I want to apologise for my crazy actions at the start of term feast." Angel continued to stare down at her feet to ashamed to look up at her head of house, she wished Professor Bentley was around because she could use a hug and she knew Flamsteed didn't like that sort of thing. "I should have left Abby for you to deal with Professor instead of getting involved." Angel had known that at the time but for some reason she just couldn't keep her temper under control.
Angel was still looking down at the floor as she thought about what had gone on and how much the Professor must hate her for ruining his night. Angel wondered if the Professor would let her transfer houses because she was most certainly not Gryffindor Material in her eyes, maybe she should talk to him about that but then he wouldn't be able to do anything anyway. So in the end she just stood there continuing to look at her shoes trying to decided if there was anything else to add.
Angel finally looked up at the Professor as she thought about what had been going through her head, she couldn't make up her mind what to say about the transfer idea or if to say anything at all, in the end she just looked straight at the Professor and said. "I'm sorry I let Gryffindor down, if you don't want me mingling with the other Gryffindor's I understand." Angel would sleep outside in a tent if she had to, or she would avoid everyone else if the Professor wanted her too, she'd do anything to make Professor Flamsteed happy again, he was the coolest Professor that she knew.

Airey rocked back nervously on to his heels and balanced himself there for a moment - sort of as a distraction from what the second year was saying while also serving as a means to keep his brain focused. He was excellent at multitasking you see. He said nothing, instead choosing to wait until Miss Valentine was finished and even then he waited for a few more moments to allow her to make sure that she was sure she had finished.
Which it seemed she was and that meant that he had to say something. Okay...here we go. Comfort and reassurance talk. He could do this. Or at least he hoped he could for he was 100% positive that this was only the first of many Gryffindor woes he would have to hear in his new position.
Merlin help him.
"I am not disappointed that you defended yourself, Miss Valentine. I want to make that clear. It is the means of which you choose to do so that I have the problem with," he began. And he was one to talk. He had been known to throw a fist or two as a student to fight back. Ended up with him in the hospital wing because he didn't know how to throw a proper punch and therefore broke his fingers, but no one needed to know that. "That being said, your apology is accepted and I hope that next time you find a different set of actions."
Or at least didn't do what she did right under the nose of a professor. Only in trouble if you get caught, yeah? Miss Valentine needed to be smart about that. Only he couldn't very well say THAT out loud.
The last bit she had to say, however, was right back to the whole teenage angst bit. "Now why would I not want that, Miss Valentine?" he questioned as his feet returned to lay flat on the ground. "I will Professor." Angel hadn't decided what her set of action would be but if she was going to get back at the person she would make sure no Professor was there.

How was it possible that this man always caught him off guard with what he said. He had expected a comment like 'here again?' or 'you're not giving up are you?' But instead he was ...impressed. The third year looked confused for a split second but then he looked smug. "It took you three years to find out i'm impressive?" he clapped his hands slowly and then laughed. "You're so sloooow!"
He stopped and rolled his eyes. "You know why i'm here, let me in" Or he would just walked in to the office without permission, he didn't care.

Oh sweet solstice. How in the world was Miss Valentine jumping from point A to point 99. It all quite literally made as much sense as that.
The astronomer rubbed his temples firmly with his fingers for several moments, trying to remind himself that conversations such as this called for some sort of bedside manner and not hard facts.
"The only thing that is un-Gryffindor about anything you have done recently, Miss Valentine, are your words right now. It seems to me that you are saying that you are giving up, and if that is the case then you are right. Because Gryffindors do not give up. They push through and don't see failure as an option, but a challenge." Which she then seemed to counter with her next words. Still something that needed said regardless. Rawr.
"I'm sure you will and then some," he nodded. He had no doubt about that. There were other Gryffindors he was far more concerned about with costing Gryffindor points. He paused for another moment and took another loooooooooong breath. "Life is tough, Miss Valentine, I suggest you wear a helmet and don't allow yourself to get so worked up over the small things."

Airey took a deep breath and tapped his hands against his thighs before speaking. "I was referring to the manner in which you knocked, Mr. Hirase," he replied calmly. "But with an attitude like that, it seems as though another lesson in manners with the Headmistress is in order." A small smirk tugged at the corners of his lips. Yes, staff was well aware of this 'lesson' in manners. "So you can check the attitude and try again, or else I'll be returning to my prep work as we have nothing further to discuss."
Grin.

Airey took a deep breath and tapped his hands against his thighs before speaking. "I was referring to the manner in which you knocked, Mr. Hirase," he replied calmly. "But with an attitude like that, it seems as though another lesson in manners with the Headmistress is in order." A small smirk tugged at the corners of his lips. Yes, staff was well aware of this 'lesson' in manners. "So you can check the attitude and try again, or else I'll be returning to my prep work as we have nothing further to discuss."

Penelope was nervous about coming to Professor Flamsteed's office because, well, astronomy lessons usually ended in her being hurt or crying. She was hoping that this term would be better, but she had a feeling that this would not be the case.
On a more positive subject, Penelope had been trying wheat-free baking. Her latest batch of cookies was in a purple tin with a red bow tied around it. Cookie tin in hand, Penelope knocked on the door.
She was not going to sit down, as there was still glitter everywhere. Glitter was one of those things that you could never get rid of, no matter how hard you tried. Sine last term, she had learned how useful lint rollers were, and she had brought several lint rollers with her to Hogwarts. Lint rollers were great for when animals left fur all over you. Standing outside the office holding the tin of cookies, Penelope reached into her pocket and rubbed a smooth stone. The stone fit perfectly in Penelope's palm, and she had started using it to help her think. Running her thumb over the stone, Penelope wondered what the astronomy professor could have possibly come up with for the lessons this term. Maybe there would be an activity that didn't involve things that she was scared of. Knowing professor Flamsteed, it was impossible to predict anything in his lessons. Somehow, Penelope still liked Professor Flamsteed after everything that had happened to her in astronomy class.
Oh sweet solstice. How in the world was Miss Valentine jumping from point A to point 99. It all quite literally made as much sense as that.
The astronomer rubbed his temples firmly with his fingers for several moments, trying to remind himself that conversations such as this called for some sort of bedside manner and not hard facts.
"The only thing that is un-Gryffindor about anything you have done recently, Miss Valentine, are your words right now. It seems to me that you are saying that you are giving up, and if that is the case then you are right. Because Gryffindors do not give up. They push through and don't see failure as an option, but a challenge." Which she then seemed to counter with her next words. Still something that needed said regardless. Rawr.
"I'm sure you will and then some," he nodded. He had no doubt about that. There were other Gryffindors he was far more concerned about with costing Gryffindor points. He paused for another moment and took another loooooooooong breath. "Life is tough, Miss Valentine, I suggest you wear a helmet and don't allow yourself to get so worked up over the small things."
Sweeeeeeeeeet solstice.
Angel shuffled on her feet uncomfortable, she had no idea what to say she just listened to Professor Flamsteed in silence, he was actually right it did seem like she was giving up. "No Professor I aren't giving up." Angel said truthfully. "
Angel looked down at the floor and then back up at the Professor. "Thanks for that Professor I needed it." Seriously it was important that she didn't let everything get her down so much. "I will remember that." Angel said truthfully.
Angel then looked at the Professor and smiled, she couldn't believe he had put some great words of wisdom in her and she would remember them. "Thanks for everything sir, your going to make an amazing head of house." Angel thought he would but she had taken up enough of his time so she just smiled and waited to be excused.

Airey simply shrugged his shoulders while reminding himself that Mr. Hirase's words were nothing but water rolling off his back - and also stopping himself from going into a lecture about magically modified behavior being along similar lines of the effects of one of the Unforgiveables and whatnot...but he resisted.
The astronomer's smile grew a bit wider as the Gryffindor's persona shifted just a little and his tone became more pleasant. Airey knew very well what the object he had been holding on to for so long was in his hands. It obviously was not something that he was going to give up THAT easily and definitely not today.
"You are most certainly welcome in to my office," he nodded to Mr. Hirase. "We can discuss the terms of our little exchange if you wish."

Checking to make sure Hershel was still sleeping, he moved past the phone booth cage and opened the door. "Ah, good day to you Miss Wright," he greeted somewhat nervously. Oh sweet solstice he was going to need to put her in a bubble this lesson. No, wait, bubbles didn't work for her either. Without really thinking, he opened his mouth and asked her a question. "Tell me, what do you think about wearing helmets and protective body gear in general?"

"I...well...I...um...thank you, Miss Valentine," he finally said after stumbling over his words. "Chin up and remember that every mistake is the opportunity to learn if you choose to see it." They were done, right? So he could stop pinching his leg with his one hand to prevent himself from squirming at the awkwardness, yeah? "I hope you leave here feeling a little better."
Subtle hint that she was free to go if that was what she wanted.

Penelope fiddled with the ribbon on the cookie tin a little bit, making sure that the bow was perfect. The door opened, and Penelope smiled at the professor. "Good day, professor." Should she give him the cookies now? She didn't have time to think about the cookies now, because the professor was speaking to her again. ...Protective gear? Helmets? Wearing helmets and protective gear? This didn't have anything to do with a certain upcoming astronomy lesson, did it? "Protective gear? Why?" She had read the lesson notice in the common room. It had said something about not wearing a skirt, but she didn't recall anything about helmets. How was she supposed to wear her uniform without wearing a skirt? What would they be doing in class that would require protective gear? If the protective gear was to protect her from flying objects or anything else that might hit her, she would rather not be in the room.

"Why what? OH! Just wondering if you have some sort of sensitivity to protective gear if worn during an activity." So he could maybe avoid a panic attack before it happened. Would be nice to get Miss Wright through a lesson without tears or the need to go visit the hospital wing.
"Of course you may," he nodded as he took a small step to the side to hold the door open for her. "Please, come right on in."

When she saw Flamsteed's feedback on her class participation, Sophie knew she had to reassure the man that she wasn't the least bit bored with him. On the contrary, really, and she needed him to know for certain.
Her whole method of not getting him disappointed in her seemed to have backfired, though.
This was why she approached Flamsteed's office with an envelope in her hand with two sheets of parchment folded up inside, explaining her case and hopefully reassuring the man that he hadn't made a huge mistake in naming her one of his aspiring astronomers last term. Carefully - and without checking to listen for voices inside the office first - Sophie shoved the envelope under the door and set off down the hallway with quick footsteps. No knocking this time so he wouldn't feel obligated to flag her down.

Just so you know - in response to your comments on my class participation - your class could never bore me. Never, ever. I feel this great need to make you proud and show you what I know, though, and I worry if I open my mouth and say something less than fantastic, you'll think less of me, and since I have the tendency to speak before entirely thinking things through, it would be likely that I could unintentionally disappoint you, so I fully intend on selectively speaking up. However, I did take avid notes throughout the class and wrote down my thoughts. I've copied everything over so I still have my notes, but I feel like you should see the notes I took during class so you know I wasn't tuned out or bored. Never in your class, sir - just uncharacteristically hesitant, I suppose. So that's what the attached parchment is, but please forgive me for my appearance of disinterest.

The professor had been engrossed with one of the books off of his science fiction shelf -a nice little escape from his research and marking from earlier in the day - and thus had not noticed the envelope slip under his door until much later. About 257 pages later to be exact. So it was only when he had placed his tie shaped bookmark into his book and jumped up off the sofa to return it to the bookshelf above his desk that he noticed it....because he heard the crunch of paper under his shoes.
"Hmmm?" Pausing for a moment before reaching down to pick it up because he was tempted to believe that this was a feeble attempt by Andy Pandy to prank him, the astronomer gave the envelope a quick sniff before opening it up and pulling its contents out.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand instantly felt like he had asteroids for brains when he read the first parchment. The look of 'oh fudgesticks' was replaced by one of complete amusement.
Opening the door to hopefully find Miss Brown still outside - or at least down the corridor a bit like the previous time - but to no avail. With a smile on his face, Airey chuckled to himself as he closed the door to his office. He had a letter that deserved a reply to write!

To say that the Astronomy professor was back to normal was a bit.....of an understatement. Especially when he swung open the door to see who was on the other side of it making all the tapping noises.
His blonde hair was a bit frizzy - as though he had been tugging violently on it for a long while to make it stand on end - and his eyes were wide and unblinking. They were, however, dry. Which was more than he could say about what they had been like in the Astrophysics Laboratory after....all THAT had happened.

..... And Zander had thought he was out of his element. But one look at Professor Flamsteed told him that he wasn't the worst off. Normally, this guy was groomed to a T, but uh the man standing before him was completely and utterly well...a mess?

AND THOSE EYES. Uh. Zander instinctively took a couple of steps back. And also, started blinking, you know, to encourage Flamsteed to blink some too. This was kind of scary. And Zander didn't like it, he didn't like one--AHHH WHY WAS HE BEING SHAKEN???? ?? ?? ? ! ?
"I-uh-I- Professor? Are you... Alright?" Clearly he wasn't. "... And who is she? ..... And they? Who are they, Professor?" And to say Zander was uncomfortable would be an understatement. He had frozen in complete shock. What was with the shaking??? But GAH. This was Professor Flamsteed. If it were anyone else, Zander would've probably slowly backed out of the room. But he still needed the Professor's advice and he did respect him and all... So there must be some worth while explanation. And hopefully less shaking.
And okay, so yes he had some major problems to talk about, but er, this came first. Professor Flamsteed looked like he was in dire need of a lint roller, and THAT never happened. So yeah, this was most definitely an emergency. "Is there, er, any way I can help you find them?" As long as he wasn't going to be sent to clean up the Astronomy room then uh, Zander would help. There had been too much cleaning going on lately. Forget fourth year Gryffindor, Zander was starting to look like a house elf, you know?
