A large number of floor-to-ceiling bookcases fill up the library, creating aisles upon aisles of books available for students to read and browse. To make finding books for all years a little easier Mr Kitridge has divided the bookshelves into sections like romance, suspense, crime, history, plants and fungi etc.
To return books just walk up to the appropriate shelf and hold up the book. The gripping charm in place on the shelves will take a hold of the book. When you feel a tug on the book let go and the book will fly up and find its right place amongst the other books on the shelves. When retrieving a book you can use the sliding ladders or if you feel confident with your magic you can use a simple accio charm to retrieve the book you want.
In front of each aisle there is small set of desks which students can use to complete homework, copy notes, take book references or chat. Keep your voices down and be mindful of falling books and other students accessing books around you.

Although Dot wasn't always keen on books, she was keen on knowing how to find her way around and knowing any secrets that Hogwarts was willing to share with her. That was the thing... secrets. Every place had them, and Dot wanted to collect them.
So here she was in the library. Books. Cuddly chairs. Desks and tables. Wall sconces. Very pretty stained glass windows. And it was quiet. All things considered, Dot was liking this place. There was a lack of hustle and bustle, but it was warmer than the rest of the castle. Not so much stark stone wall going on.
Dot grabbed the bottom rung of the nearest ladder and hauled herself up. If Dima was here, he'd push her around the room... but she could kick herself off and roll along a few feet at a time on her own.

Gabriel had IMMEDIATELY found refuge in the library...due to how many PEOPLE were at this school. NO ONE had told him about all the people there would be! See...he wasn't a fan of people. Books were better. Especially any books he could find in odd languages. The higher the difficulty, the more into it he'd be. To find the appropriate distractions, you know? From.....family....and girls.....and, uh, anything else that induced stress...
Gabe was searching for books that fit these very criteria....when...uh, it was the little scary girl from the train!
She hadn't seen him yet...
No....

There was this one time when Dot and Dima had seen a rabbit in the field by his house, and they'd had to creep up on it in stealthy bursts, judging whether or not it felt safe enough for approach before inching cautiously towards it. They'd never made it, since Dot gave up and ran at it full tilt, but she'd learned how to approach terrified creatures.
Like Specs was terrified.

Books in Mermish were definitely a step in the right direction...NOT that Gabe could mentally respond to her thoughts. He wasn't a mind reader...So, naturally, he had to make words.

"I know what you meant." There was just a little sass in her tone, but Dot didn't turn to look at him. Specs. Did he have a name, even? She moved down the shelf in his direction, pulling off one with a funny word in the title and sliding it toward him.

Angel looked at Benny and smiled, she was glad when he walked her into the Library and then they were going towards a book shelf and Benny was speaking. "Yeah it does." Angel whispered as she realised it was a library so they had to be quiet, she didn't want the Librarian mad at them or anything.
"Oh that would be great, though some how I got on the History of Magic Leader board last year." Angel was still in shock about that. She stared into his eyes and then looked at the books, did she want to say the thing that was on her mind the most, she decided that she wanted to. "Ben..." Angel whispered as she looked at him, her nerves were getting to her. "I like you... I like you a lot in fact." Angel hoped that Ben wouldn't freak out or run away. "I mean. I really.... really.... really like you." Angel whispered to him.

Clara had had enough birthday celebrations and stress for one day. Sure only a handful of people had wished her happy birthday, but it was many more than she was used to. Now she just wanted to find something difficult and distracting to read. Maybe it was time to start a new language. She'd been reading Portuguese for a while now and it had lost its ability to challenge her and right now, that was what she needed. A challenge.
No people. No presents. No cake. No nothing.
The redhead could probably just have summoned a book of of interest, but she always found it more interesting to look for one. Plus, it relaxed her somewhat.

Ruby wandered and came around a corner, stopping warily when she saw the girl ahead. Oh yes, she recognized her. Bed stealer. Narrowing her eyes slightly for a moment she tried to work out if she wanted to actually talk to her or if she should just continue on her little tour.
.... nope she was soooo going to talk to her.
Ruby sauntered over, coming up behind the other girl.
"Not harassing my brother today?" She asked in a saccharine sweet tone.

That had come as a complete surprise and could have been induced by the situation they had found themselves in within the bitter cold.
This...this was open and he could see the nerves in her tone. Much like him in Diagon Alley of the summer.
"I..." Ben started, suddenly having trouble speaking even though the answer was easy. He had been mulling it over for months after all."I like you too Angel."

After looking for a book for at least five minutes, not one of them stood out of took her fancy, so she turned on heel to go to a different section in the hopes of having better luck there. She didn't get that far, though, because someone was in her path ... and was talking to her ... fantastic.
And it WOULD be Gabe's sister ... who else would it be!?
"Ruby," she said absently, looking back at the bookshelves because that was easier than making eye contact with her. At least until she knew how to react and deal with her. She seemed complicated. Clara knew that Ruby and Gabe were close, she approved there, however she seriously questioned her choice of friends. Ahem, Zahra. "No, that's not on the schedule for today." Well. Maybe. There was still a lot of the day left, but if she spoke to him, it wouldn't be harassing. She definitely believed that that wasn't the way Gabe viewed it. Not entirely anyway.

Oh good, she knew her name. That made it less awkward since the girl had slept in her house and all. Ruby wasn't QUITE sure what to make of Clara yet, so far she only had totally negative things (courtesy of Gabe) to go off. But also? Despite all the crap that Gabe said about her? He was STILL hanging out with her, so Ruby wasn't completely convinced of his anti-Clara stance. And he HAD sort-of-almost-not-quite-but-a-little-bit acknowledged that he thought her pretty.
Pretty but totally a snot apparently. Ruby smiled sweetly. "You're lucky I haven't struck you at all." She said in an exact mimic of the other girl's tone. "But I'm not violent so by all means keep being freakishly obsessed with my brother. Its probably good for him." Ruby said, ending in a cheerful voice.
And no, she hadn't answered Clara's question as to why she was here. Why should she when the Ravenclaw girl had clearly been trying to be mean and imply Ruby was stupid.
She'd simply been being friendly. Wasn't her fault Clara was on the defensive.

Benny watched her curiously as Angel seemed to be distracted, the girl even starting to stay something before breaking off. Had she heard him? Had she thought he would say otherwise? But then it was a light bulb going off and her face seemed to say it all. The younger lion had figured out what he had said and it was then that he felt self conscious.
"Its....new to me too," he admitted. It wasn't like he had ever really had a crush before. That had been Adi with Sophie a couple of terms before, the two of them trying to set him up with another girl. That situation had been more than just a little awkward at the Valentine's event that year. But this...this was okay.

Angel looked at Ben and smiled as he said it was new too. See couldn't Ben tell that they were meant for each other, now she had got over calling him cutie-pie and was calling him by his name. "Eh...so Ben." Angel lifted his head up to him as she tried to look straight into his eyes which was a bit hard since well he was taller that her. "Do.... you.... eh." Angel had no idea how to say this.
"Boyfriend....Girlfriend....us.....I?" Angel was getting so confused now her speech was coming out blurred. "Uh I mean, you... boyfriend... I... girl." Angel stopped and looked at Ben wondering if he was getting the message even if it was going wrong.

The big "b" and "g" words that were involved in relationships between boys and girls and pretty important he supposed.
"Do you....um...want to be my ...um...girlfriend?" he asked swallowing as he tried to clarify her speech. Okay he soooo totally understood where she was coming from with the stumbling over the words. It was HARD to say. At least for him...and Angel...and anyone of the other socially inept people present in the world.

Though she was a bit worried now that he might call her crazy and tell her he wanted someone more her age and better looking than her. "I...eh." Angel looked up at his handsome face. "I hope you don't mind me saying that." Angel was blushing like crazy at the minute and she wanted to be somewhere else but she stood rooted to the spot, he could only call her crazy once if he didn't want her to be his girlfriend but she would wait and see.

One simple word confirmed the clarified phrase as well as changed everything for them. So that was that. They technically were now a couple. Well as long as he wanted them to be which he guess he did deep down or he wouldn't have been able to say anything about it, perhaps even running away from the whole situation. But he had done one and not done the other so he had his answer.
At her question he shook her head. "No," Ben answered truthfully. Granted there were weird feelings going on but he figured that was totally normal right now given what was happening. "How about we headback to the common room," he suggested not sure he could focus on studying at the moment. Besides the near-constant nice fire combatted the starting autumn chill.
