While Hogwarts' new first years are heading for the castle via the firstie boats, the rest of the students will be taking the usual carriages.
These are the same carriages that have been used for years and years. They are round, black, and seat about four students. They also appear to move along on their own, with an invisible something inside the harnesses...

As soon as the train stopped in Hogsmeade station, Lily hopped off, carrying her owl and broom with her as she headed to the carriages for the non-first years. Finding a carriage empty, the seventh year climbed in, setting her owl down at her feet and laying her broom across her lap, essentially keeping anyone from sitting in the seat directly next to her. There was still plenty of room, however, across from the redhead, and Lily didn't have any plans to save the seats for anyone in particular.

She looked over at the girl she was sharing the carriage with and gave her a smile. "Hello, I'm Tessa- mind if I join you in here?" she asked, indicating the nearly empty carraige. It wasn't a large carriage, so she supposed the girl could be saving room for her friends to join her. So, it couldn't hurt to ask. She hoped that the carriages wouldn't be as crowded as the train had been... that wouldn't be fun.

Horseless carriages were these suppose to be cool? Bart arched his neck to see where his best friend got pushed too. She didn't want on those boats, but he did. They looked so neat and they moved alone. Not that he hadn't seen that before, but his parents were always with him. So to get to do it now he wanted to so bad. Maybe he could just sneak on. Yes no one would notice he was new so it was like he was a first year.
As he wanted to try to sneak on he lost focus seeing some interesting people move towards the carriages. Maybe he would follow them see if anything was exciting, but after being bound in the luggage compartment he wasn't sure whether or not he wanted to test anyone else tonight. HA! He even made himself laugh. Patting his pocket he had taken a little souvenir before anyone had seen once he was unbound and he left the compartment.
Jumping up on a carriage Bart was ready. "To the next best thing.. let's go. High Ho silverless horse away! "

After a few awkward seconds, she spoke up again. "I'm Lily, seventh year ravenclaw." She said, introducing herself as she sat up a little taller. The seventeen year old pulled her house robe a little tighter around herself, hiding the quidditch sweater underneath. "What house are you in?" She asked the other girl to pass the time.

Tessa blinked and then laughed as another person joined their compartment. "How do you know there isn't a horse pulling this carriage?" she joked with the newcomer. "They could just be invisible," she grinned. "I'm Tessa," she introduced. "Any idea where we're going to?" she asked, glancing out the window. She assumed the castle in the distance, but she had thought the train would go to the castle... there could be another surprise change in their journey.

Of course, Tessa couldn't help but glance at the girl's broom. In the dim light she couldn't tell what it was, but she would have to ask about it at some point. Maybe even see what the girl knew about the school's Quidditch teams.
"Excellent," she said, taking the offered seat across from the girl. "Thanks," she said. "Nice to meet you Lily... but what's a Ravenclaw?" she asked, cocking her head to one side. Someone had mentioned houses, but it was a strange name... "I'm Tessa," she said. "Sixth Year, I believe?" she quickly did the math in her head. "Yeah, Sixth Year... no house, yet," she told the older girl. "I'm a transfer, fresh from North America," she said with a grin.
She had lost them? Seriously? Maybe it was a good thing because she was starting to feel...well, confused? Seriously that was one packed compartment with Huxley, Sander, Kace, the girl Hope and her puff...the cat, and well...the girl Alex and whoever else was in there. Seriously it was like a clown car - and the rumors didn't help.
She practically ran to get in line for the carriages. It wasn’t that she wanted one of the first ones, no; she just didn’t want one that was packed like a can of sardines. Yes, she needed breathing room and lots of it.
She was practically running and jumping to get into the nearest carriage. Her tiny height was a large problem when it came to carriages as she just barely managed to only grab onto the handle by the open door.
Slipping…well, that would be one messy feast wouldn’t it?

Sander got off the train. He looked around him. So this was Hogsmeade. Nice...for a village. He noticed that the students were getting into the carriages.
Was he supposed to get into one too. He shrugged and walked up to one. He noticed the Thestrals standing in front of it. Beautiful creatures they were.
Yes Sander could see them because he had seen someone die. It wasn't someone he knew. Just a boy he had seen on the lake when he had been practicing his game. He had wanted to call out to the boy, to warn him that he was standing on a thin patch of ice, but before he could, the ice cracked and the boy fell straight in.
Sander remembered skating as fast as he could to help the boy, and had managed to pull him out, after jumping through the thin ice after him. But he was too late. The boy had died from drowning and from the cold.
Shaking his head, Sander patted the mane of the one nearest him before he walked back to the carriage and climbed into one.
So okay...would he be the only one in the carriage? Sander stretched out and got comfortable.

Tessa blinked and then laughed as another person joined their compartment. "How do you know there isn't a horse pulling this carriage?" she joked with the newcomer. "They could just be invisible," she grinned. "I'm Tessa," she introduced. "Any idea where we're going to?" she asked, glancing out the window. She assumed the castle in the distance, but she had thought the train would go to the castle... there could be another surprise change in their journey.
When he jumped in he didn't even notice there was something already in there or well two people in there. He looked out at the place again. " I guess there could be doesn't matter to me really, but since I can't see anything I'm calling it the horseless wonder." Once Bart decided on something he was sticking to it. So no horse was on that carriage so onward let's get this going, but seeing as other students were still walking up to the carriages he figured they had time and sat down.
Oh the girl was saying her name, "Hey Tessa" doing his try to play it cool nod, "Bart" because no one needed to know his full name as long as he could keep it to himself no one would ever figure it out. The girl made him laugh a bit, where were they going, well ummm he scratched the back of his neck. "See Tessa these carriages we are on they take us up this path and to a circus with all kinds of muggle clowns and animals." Here's your sign, of course it was taking them to school. That's why their parents took them to the train, right? The castle could be seen in the distance so why wouldn't she know that.
"You knew too I take it? I had to transfer from my old school or well I got kicked out so yeah.. Go Hogwarts and all that stuff." He had no clue what to really say about going to school here. Everyone else was so excited and to him it was just school. Barf!

One second she was hanging on by a thread, and the next there were hands; strong hands that were not only about her waist. Her first reaction was to thrust out at whoever was picking her up – and then the voice. That voice made her knees go week, her hands loosen on the railing, and caused butterflies to flutter in her stomach.
All of a sudden, she wasn’t that hungry. Get it together Johanson she told herself as she as the hands the voice belonged to gave her the much needed shove into the carriage. Her wobbly knees didn’t let her move too far, but still she forced herself to slide against the window of the carriage as she watched him climb after her.
Her throat tightening as he spoke and asked if she needed help and if she was okay. She didn’t know how to respond to that, she knew honesty would make her heart hurt so she just smiled and shook her head. ”Well…not anymore” she half-grinned, before glancing at the ground. ”thanks for ugh, helping me out there, I’d probably have been a little down trodden and that would have been one hell of a mess” she shrugged and glanced over to him. ”H-how...how have you been?” she asked and glanced over to him as he entered the carriage after her.

"PLeasure to meet you Bart," she said, nodding to the boy. She couldn't help but laugh at the boy's answer... and who knows, he could be telling the truth. "Oh really? An entire circus? Wll there be elephants there? I do so want to ride an elephant," she told him, her tone serious. She was new, so who knew what could be waiting for them around the next bend. People had also mentioned some sort of test or sorting...

Of course it was a fair argument it wasn’t even an argument because he wasn’t changing his mind. “Well like I said to book boy this summer everyone is allowed their own opinions until you can prove them wrong and I don’t mean in a book, because books are boring and can be lying about things.” Nope he had to see with his own eyes or it wasn’t going to change.
He eyed her for a moment was she serious. She really thought they were going to a circus now? Hmm that was interesting. He liked having people believe him or at least go along with it. “Yeah plenty of elephants and goats, because yeah the sorting test uses goats. My step brother told me that.” He was really talking out his sleeve now, but he couldn’t show this. “I’ll ride the elephant with you it’ll be fun.” He wasn’t lying there it would be fun.
So she was new too cool. He started laughing with her question it wasn’t that he was hiding it. “I blew up the potions lab during class. We were making fireworks and I added an ingredient that exploded to cauldron. Everyone thought I did it on purpose, but I just wanted bigger fireworks.” He shrugged. He thought it was funny. “Want to see the scar” He pulled up his robe and showed his wrist. “Didn’t tell the healer about that burn when she was applying the burn paste.” His grin kept growing. He was so proud of that scare for some reason.

Lily followed the girl's eyes to the broom across her lap and smirked. Kid was interested in quidditch maybe? Didn't matter much to Lily now though. What did matter was the fact that the kid didn't know what Ravenclaw was. The seventh year's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "You don't know what Ravenclaw is??" Lily said, shocked, until she heard what followed. Oh... the kid was a transfer. "Ravenclaw is the best of the four houses at Hogwarts. We're known for our knowledge, our smarts, our ability to solve riddles. We also have a pretty awesome quidditch team if I say so myself." Lily said, starting to explain.
"Then there's Hufflepuff, the friendliest house. I'm not really sure what else sets them apart." Lily said pausing for a moment. "Gryffindor is the house of the brave. Also the house that the famous Harry Potter was a part of... they haven't done very well in the house cup for the past several years. And then there's Slytherin, the cunning house. Be wary of the snakes. Whatever you do, don't get on their bad side. Their head of house was known to have lit students on fire once." Lily said with a smirk. "Don't worry about her though... she retired last term." The seventh year stopped, letting all the information sink in, and giving the girl a chance to ask questions.

Tessa looked over as another person joined their carriage. She was about to call a greeting, but the boy looked deep in thought, and she didn't want to disturb him. She waited until he was all settled, then smiled. "Hello, I'm Tessa," she told the boy. "Are you alright?" she asked, leaning forward a little bit toward him. "Anything I can do?" She was a new transfer, but she was used to that sort of transition. If that was the case for this boy, she could offer reassuring words or something of the like. If it was something else... well, she would figure that out when she came to it.

"I completely agree," she told the boy with a grin. "Psh, I hardly spend time with books- I'd rather find things out myself, and with my own two hands!" she replied with a firm nod. Now, books about Quidditch, that was different. She would read those for tips and tricks and then give them a try herself. No use in re-inventing the wheel!
"Goats, huh?" Tessa asked curious, going along with the boy for now. After all, why not? It was amusing. "Sorting using goats- I'll be very curious to see how they do that. As long as the goats don't eat any of my robes," she said, looking down with fake concern. "I just got these." She nodded enthusiastically at his next proposal. "Of course I would ride the elephant! That would be so much fun!" she replied, laughing.
She listened to the boy's story, trying not to smile. It sounded like a funny experience- it was just a shame the school had taken it all so seriously. "That would be a problem," she commented, on adding more of an ingredient. But honestly, she knew many people who had taken such risks- but a majority of them hadn't ended in explosions that bad. "Sure," she said, looking down at the boy's wrist. "That looks like some of my scars," she said, rolling up her sleeves to display a handful of her Quidditch scars. "I'm training to be a Quidditch player, and I don't always land on my feet," she told the boy with a grin.

Tessa shook her head, followed by a shrug. "Should I?" she asked, curious. She hid a smile at the girl's explanation of her own house but mentally made a note. She probably would not be in that house. She was smart, sure, but she was not a book lover nor riddle solver. She was the kick down the door sort, or the skip class for an adventure sort.
She listened as the other houses were explained, nodding her understanding. The others sounded more like her style- but as for which one she would be, she had no idea. But that was what the sorting was all about, wasn't it. "Thanks for the info," she said with a smile. "It all makes a lot more sense now- I'd heard the names, but didn't know what people were talking about," she added, laughing. "So, what are the classes like? Anything I should know about the Professors?" she asked, hoping to get some good insider information.

Tessa looked over as another person joined their carriage. She was about to call a greeting, but the boy looked deep in thought, and she didn't want to disturb him. She waited until he was all settled, then smiled. "Hello, I'm Tessa," she told the boy. "Are you alright?" she asked, leaning forward a little bit toward him. "Anything I can do?" She was a new transfer, but she was used to that sort of transition. If that was the case for this boy, she could offer reassuring words or something of the like. If it was something else... well, she would figure that out when she came to it.
Sander quickly sat up when he realized that he wasn't alone in the carriage after all. How could he not have seen the girl sitting in the carriage.
Thank goodness, he hadn't begun to sing to himself or pick his nose or do something else embarrassing.
"Oh I'm sorry. I didn't see you sitting in here. Nice to meet you. Tessa. My name is Sander." he stuck out his hand to shake the girl's.
"Wrong? Oh no nothing...well no that's wrong. I was just remembering the reason why I'm able to see a Thestral. I just wish things could have been different that day." Sander told the girl.
"But thanks for the offer. I'm still getting used to all this newness. I'm a transfer from Durmstrang, so all the Hogwarts traditional stuff takes quite some getting used to." Sander confessed to Tessa.
Then he shrugged and leaned back in the carriage. Maybe it wouldn't be such a boring ride up to Hogwarts after all.

Tessa shot him a smile before combing back her hair from her eyes. "You seemed distracted, it's no surprise that you didn't see me lurking in the corner," she joked. "PLeasure to meet you Sander," she replied, giving his hand a shake.
"Thestral?" she glanced outside at the front of the carriage. "That would make sense," she said, nodding. "I've never seen a thestral, but I've heard of them- what do they look like?" she asked, resisting the urge to look outside at the front of the carriage again. She knew she wouldn't see it, but instinct just wanted her to take another look.
She offered a smile. "Is this your first time transferring?" she asked, readjusting how she was sitting to get more comfortable. Durmstrang... she knew someone at Durmstrang. Perhaps later she would ask if he knew her- but for now she would just let the question pass. "I'm a new transfer too," she told him with a warm smile. "So we're in the same boat... er, carriage as it would appear," she corrected with a laugh. "I've transferred a lot, but it always takes some getting used to: new layout of the school, new students, new rules," she agreed with a nod. "But it's fun being able to start over," she added. "And you never know who you're going to meet!"

"I completely agree," she told the boy with a grin. "Psh, I hardly spend time with books- I'd rather find things out myself, and with my own two hands!" she replied with a firm nod. Now, books about Quidditch, that was different. She would read those for tips and tricks and then give them a try herself. No use in re-inventing the wheel!
"Goats, huh?" Tessa asked curious, going along with the boy for now. After all, why not? It was amusing. "Sorting using goats- I'll be very curious to see how they do that. As long as the goats don't eat any of my robes," she said, looking down with fake concern. "I just got these." She nodded enthusiastically at his next proposal. "Of course I would ride the elephant! That would be so much fun!" she replied, laughing.
She listened to the boy's story, trying not to smile. It sounded like a funny experience- it was just a shame the school had taken it all so seriously. "That would be a problem," she commented, on adding more of an ingredient. But honestly, she knew many people who had taken such risks- but a majority of them hadn't ended in explosions that bad. "Sure," she said, looking down at the boy's wrist. "That looks like some of my scars," she said, rolling up her sleeves to display a handful of her Quidditch scars. "I'm training to be a Quidditch player, and I don't always land on my feet," she told the boy with a grin.
He looked with interest at the girl, no one had ever said they agreed with his down with books theory. This one wasn't so bad. Was he up to four or five normal girls so far. Tessa just joined that group with her comments. "I'm glad you agree, it's nice to finally know someone that gets it."
*nod* *nod*
He looked towards the castle again it was getting so close now, well she would soon know he was lying if she didn't already. "No I don't think you have to worry about them eating your robes. I think they give you a test with the goat based on personalities of the different houses. Which one you do is which house you should go to." Yep that was all a lie, but oh well it sounded good. He smiled as she said she would ride an elephant it would be fun if they could.
Her scars.. training for quidditch. Bart stared at her a few moments trying to remain calm and cool. "You play quidditch?" Alright she just jumped to super awesome in his book right there. "I play quidditch. I've broken a few bones." He was proud of those breaks. "Broke my nose this summer from a bludger. You going to try out for your house team?" If they got in the same house that would be cool to play together.

She saw him glance out the window and smothered a smile. "So, this circus- is there a mandatory show that we have to watch? Before we can go into the school?" she asked innocently. "Oh good, I didn't want goat bites in my clothes on my first day," she giggled, and nodded along with the rest of what he was saying. "I can't wait for this sorting- it sounds very interesting!"
Tessa was afraid for a moment that she had said something to the boy- he was staring at her after all. "Yes..." she replied slowly, wondering what sort of explosion was coming. She laughed as he finally stopped staring and resumed his talk. "Yup, I've broken a few bones as well- the healers that became familiar with me started to just give me the 'Bone-grow' to take home with me. I only had to go in for the more major injuries," she explained, grinning. "Probably," she told him with a nod. "So you'd better be cheering me on- unless we're playing against one another," she added with a wink.

"A Thestral has black leathery skeletal features. They also have wings and milky white eyes. I know that sounds kind of scary, but they actually look very noble in fact. It is sad that they do a great job pulling these carriages and yet they don't get thanked by their passengers. I mean it's no one's fault that they can't see them. But now that I can, I always make it a point to whisper thank you to them." he told Tessa describing what a Thestral looked like for her.
She was also a transfer? He knew of another transfer who studied in Beauxbaton. He wished that she had been able to transfer to Hogwarts too. But Tessa was sitting in front of him now and he should be giving her his full attention.

Tessa returned his smile. "Agreed- I'm not one to be by myself, it's too boring," she said, shaking her head. Her father had other ideas- being a scientist studying out in the middle of the woods. When she stayed with him, it was all she could do to keep herself from going insane- hence the Quidditch training.
She listened and nodded as Sander spoke. It sounded like many drawings that she had seen- but, of course, she had never seen one in person. "That's a good point," she said. "I'll try to do the same..." although it would feel a little odd talking to open air. But hey, they could see her. The least she could do is make the effort to thank them. "You just may have to point me in the right direction," she told him with a smile. She was tempted to ask how he could see the thestrals- but, if it had been traumatic, she didn't want to bring that up.
Tessa nodded. "Welcome to the world of transfers, it's an experience," she told him with a laugh. However, at his words, she tilted her head in question. It sounded like it hadn't been Sander's idea to come here, nor was he happy about it. She could sympathize. "Most of my transferring has been because of my Father's job," she told Sander. "So it's been from one school to another, to another," she shrugged, omitting how some of her transfers had been more her choice expelled.
"New friends, new everything," she said, nodding. "So, what have you heard about Hogwarts so far?" she asked him, hoping the change of topic would help him relax. It seemed the talk of his father had soured his mood.
One second she was hanging on by a thread, and the next there were hands; strong hands that were not only about her waist. Her first reaction was to thrust out at whoever was picking her up – and then the voice. That voice made her knees go week, her hands loosen on the railing, and caused butterflies to flutter in her stomach.
All of a sudden, she wasn’t that hungry. Get it together Johanson she told herself as she as the hands the voice belonged to gave her the much needed shove into the carriage. Her wobbly knees didn’t let her move too far, but still she forced herself to slide against the window of the carriage as she watched him climb after her.
Her throat tightening as he spoke and asked if she needed help and if she was okay. She didn’t know how to respond to that, she knew honesty would make her heart hurt so she just smiled and shook her head. ”Well…not anymore” she half-grinned, before glancing at the ground. ”thanks for ugh, helping me out there, I’d probably have been a little down trodden and that would have been one hell of a mess” she shrugged and glanced over to him. ”H-how...how have you been?” she asked and glanced over to him as he entered the carriage after her.
Sitting down, Kaiden scooted close beside the girl. "You sure you're fine? No splinters or anything?" he asked, reaching for her hand to inspect it. Her hand was... nice, and it looked fine. "And I'm.... good? I don't know." he said with a shrug. "I er... Sitting down, Kaiden scooted close beside the girl. "You sure you're fine? No splinters or anything?" he asked, reaching for her hand to inspect it. Her hand was... nice, and it looked fine. I gotta..." he set her hand down between them and leanded back to get into his pocket and pulled something out, still hidden in his fist. "Here, give me your hand." he said lifting it and placing the badge in her hand, and closing her fingers over it.
Gulp. This was, she was all nervous and nervy now, so much so that it was like someone had replaced her heart with a pair of hummingbird wings. The fluttery nervousness wasn’t fun. Sure it was exhilarating and nerve educing, and it made her cheeks flame up.
She took a deep breath and tried to exhale quietly but when he lifted her hand up to inspect it for splinters she just whimpered. Why did she whimper? She wasn’t in pain. Whimpering as something you did when you were in pain. Was she in pain? Maybe, maybe she was having heart-pains but that was her fault.
“I,” she gulped nervously as he placed her hand down. What was he doing now reaching into his pocket and asking for her hand. She didn’t know what he was doing with hands in pocket awkwardness but a part of her didn’t like where this was going. Still she didn’t exactly have a choice as he picked up her hand and placed something cold into it.
“So…I’m going to have to take my hand back” she muttered and pulled her hand slowly from his grip. Lifting one finger up slowly she only frowned. The rumors were real. Quidditch Captain. Brilliant. Now every stupid girl in the school would throw themselves at him…and he, in her opinion was more attractive than say…Odessa…but that would happen to him yeah? Girls being all Kaiden has pretty abs to more than a bathroom door.
“Oh” she muttered as she saw the badge in her hand. She was fighting the urge to throw it out of the window. “Here, take it please?” she asked her eyes pleadingly wide, “I might chuck it out of the window if you don’t…because well,” she frowned her eyes seemed to grown brighter almost more green than their normal blue-green tinge. Heck there might have been a hint of green-yellow to them.
Yes, something about the girl was glowing jealous. Closing her eyes she tried to force herself to look normal, to be normal, to not really care, but the pained jealous-pouty-look didn’t fade at all.

“No I haven’t. Most people think I’m dumb for saying it.” Which caused him to be in one too many fights. “It’s nice to know I’m not alone.” He was glad to share his theory with someone that seemed to be pretty cool.

"Well, those people need to understand that there are different opinions in the world- even regarding books," she said with a sniff. No one had really contested her about it- most had seen how antsy she had become when forced to sit or read for long periods. "There's always someone out there with a similar opinion," she said with a warm smile.
Tessa's smile grew slowly. "That's not true. I've never been here before, there could very well be a circus. I do, however, believe that it's doubtful. A shame, I really wanted to ride the elephant!" She told him with a pout. "No clue," she replied, shaking her head. "I've heard a little bit about the houses to know I won't be in the... Ravensaw? Is that it?" she said, looking at him.
"Not lost them... just broken them enough. The potion I have helps knit them back together and make them stronger," she explained. Perhaps she used the wrong name- she had just accepted the potion without too many questions. "It's painful- but much better than waiting for it to heal," she replied. "Sounds like a deal," she agreed. "And if we're on the same team- we'll be unstoppable," she told him with a grin.
