Ravenclaw Ravenclaw Girls Dorms

{Banner by sweetpinkpixie}

When you take the stairs from the Common Room and head to the right, the doors of the dormitories allotted for the females of Ravenclaw House are where you end up. Each year has their own room, but don't worry they are all furnished the same and are roughly the same size with the help of Extension Charms on the Tower.

Each room is circular and the large window pattern continues here like it was in the Common Room. The room is complete with four-poster beds spread out along the walls with each owner's trunk at the foot, all in a fair bit better condition than you may have noticed last term. The comforters and privacy curtains are no longer moth-eaten and are a lovely shade of navy velvet. The bedside tables clean as well, apart from some dusk along the backs, and above each of those, mirrors hang. Connected to each dormitory room is also a bathroom.

Use this room to rest after a hard day of classes, relax after Quidditch practice, or to just hang out with your housemates.
**Remember no boys allowed in here. The stairs will prevent this...

The sound of giggling laughter radiated out of the girls dorm – and maybe all the way down to the common room. It wasn’t that late at night, or strange of an occurrence really. Or was it? Maybe the strangest part was the fact that there was a uniform hap-hazardously strewn on the ground near a closed trunk.

But that wasn’t the strange thing.

It was the girl – dancing, singing (and maybe off-key) into an old round hairbrush. She wasn’t facing the doorway or anyone in the room as she bounced up and down and jumped from her trunk and onto her bed.

Yes, she was dancing on a trunk…it was like dancing on a table but not.

“She’s a girl with the best intentions” she danced around a bit twirled – hopped up and down, almost fell off of the bed and still kept singing “he’s a man of his won invention – she looked out the window he walked out the doooooooor” she giggled and kept singing “But she followed him and he asked ‘what’cha lookin’ fooor?” she didn’t care if people could hear her singing the song at all.

Melek glanced up and watched as one of the Ravenclaws that she had met at the feast, jump up and started to sing and dance. A giggle escaped and she smiled at her, "Are you having fun?" It did kinda look fun, to be honest... though Melek wouldnt want to join her. She laid and watched the girl dance and sing. She waited to see what the girl would do after the song finished. Mel didnt know whether to clap or be silent so she just stared at the girl and smiled then blushed and looked away, feeling like she was being rude and creepy and all that. Melek pretended to read her book again but she eyed the girl from the corner of her eye, waiting to see what the next crazy thing the girl would do.

Dancing Through Life

Friends, Gwenhwyfar. Make friends. Gwen reminded herself as she climbed the stairs up to her new dormitory. As soon as she opened the door a giggle escaped her. An older girl was dancing and singing into a hairbrush just the way Gwen did at home. But only when she was practically alone. She wouldn't ever do that in front of people. Making friends? a small voice in her head reminded her. Right.

"I love that song," she smiled. Glancing around the room for a second she found her things at the base of one of the beds and stepped over to it. It had been two years since she had had an actual bed and she was pretty excited about this one. She flopped down onto it, bouncing a little. It might not be the best bed in the whole world, but it was hers, and that's what counted.

She turned back toward the other girls in the room. "I'm Gwen. What are your names?" She asked in her rough-sounding American accent.

Adrienne entered the dormitory, tired and ready to practically fall asleep as soon as she hit the bed. Unfortunately, it seemed like that was not to be, because along with the usual people talking and introducing themselves that came with the first day of school, there was someone... singing. Into a hairbrush. Well, if you could call that singing.

"Could someone please put an end to that awful noise?" Adrienne grumbled, eyeing the other two, slightly less obnoxious people in the room with a generally annoyed look on her face. She didn't know either of them, which made sense because one looked young enough to be a first year, though she wasn't sure about the other one. Nobody seemed to be heeding her suggestion, unfortunately, as politely-worded as it was.

"Honestly, if you can't sing, don't." She got to her bed and laid down on her back, placing a white pillow on her face and trying to block out the sound.

The sixth year hadn’t really noticed that any of the people had entered the room. That is until she heard Mel’s both and Gwen’s voice piping in about liking the song and asking her if she was enjoying herself.

Of course she was enjoying herself.

She was Amelia Johanson that was the whole point of being her – enjoying every last minute of it…or making every moment as fun as it could be.

“Oh hello again Mel!” She beamed over to the girl with the interesting name – seriously that third year’s parents had a cool idea…Melek, it was interesting. And then she turned to the little (and quite adorable) first year. The way she seemed to revel her bed was interesting.

Mika quickly put away her hairbrush, or well put it on her bed and sat down on the trunk – not before chuckling at what Adrienne had said. “Oh you do, that’s great, it’s a fun song isn’t it?” She smiled over to the girl, “I’m Amelia by the way almost everyone calls me Mika” except one person who calls her his own variation of it, and Mo with his calling her Creepy. “Its nice to meet you Gwen – your from America?” She asked with a bright eyed smile. “I’m originally from Australia” she admitted the twang of her accent becoming stronger as she mentioned her country of origin.

And then she glanced over to Adrienne and chuckled. The girl already had a pillow on her face to block out the sound. “Sorry for disturbing you deary” she grinned over to the pillow-covered-face…she really didn’t care if she had disturbed the girl it was jut the polite thing to say…and well, why not have civility in the dorms? Made things easier by far.

“Honestly I wasn’t trying to sound pitch-perfect there, I was having fun. Why not embrace life and just go with it?”

Melek smiled as another girl commented that she liked the song. "Nice to meet you, Gwen... I am Melek or Mel if you rather... it is up to you..." She giggled and smiled at the girl. Mel glared at the girl who told Mike to basically shut up. "She is just having fun. There is no need to be rude. I doubt that you can sing any better and I think she didnt sing too bad." Yep, she was standing up for Mika. Melek beamed as Mika acknowledged her, "Hello, Mika!" She glanced over at Gwen again when Mika said something about America. A smile came to her lips, "Is America lovely? I havent traveled there... I barely am allowed to leave my home in Bursa, Turkey." A sigh escaped and she looked up at Mika, "Australia with the kangaroos? Is it as fun as it sounds?"

Adrienne peeked out from under her pillow in surprise. Usually people weren't that polite with her, especially after she'd essentially just told them to shut up and that they had a terrible voice in two sentences. She sighed and sat up, putting her pillow down. It wasn't often that she admitted to being wrong, but... well, these were her dorm-mates, after all. Best not to antagonise people you had to spend a whole year with, especially if they outnumbered you.

"You're right." She wasn't going to go as far as apologising, however. "I guess I'm just grumpy because I'm tired; I haven't had a proper night's sleep since forever."

"Adrienne, she said, turning to the girls. The younger one was most likely a firstie, given her apparent age. American, too, that was odd. Tora spent summers in America, but Adrienne herself had never been. To her knowledge, it was loud and bright and filled with technology, not that England and France weren't. Just... more so. Mel looked older, maybe around her age, though she hadn't seen her anywhere around the castle before, which was odd. "And that's ah-drienne, not ay-drienne." Honestly, the amount of people who pronounced it wrong. "Nice to meet you both," she said, with her customary eyebrow quirk and a half-smile.

"Well I could, if I wanted to, but I choose not to subject others to my voice when they don't want to hear it," Adrienne snapped before she got a chance to think about what she was saying. Then she turned to Mika and took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. It was too late for fighting. "Look, I'm sorry. I already said, I'm just tired." Also, she couldn't stand singing. It was just a more musical version of yelling, and honestly, she could do without being forced to hear it. She'd noticed that most people tended to think they were good at it, but it was rare she found anyone whose voice didn't make her wince.

Wow. That girl was a grump. Gwen looked over at her for a second, noting the pillow pressed to her face, and resisted the urge to giggle. She bizzarely reminded Gwen of her older brother. The one that was actually older than her, because minutes didn't really count.
SPOILER!!: Mika

Gwen was about to ask how someone got 'Mika' out of 'Amelia,' but Adrienne beat her to it. Now just wait for the answer. She nodded. "Originally, yeah. We moved to England a couple of years ago though. My mom is English." There. Easy explanation out of the way.
SPOILER!!: Melek

Melek? That was way more interesting than Mika out of Amelia. However, the girls Turkish heritage easily explained the name. So no questions there. "It's nice to meet you too." Is America lovely? What kind of question was that? "I love America. It's just perfect," she replied. "Hey, Turkey is fourth on my list of places I want to go next! Sometime you should tell me where the best places to travel are." As in not right now, because Gwen didn't have her notebook out and didn't really want to grab it.
SPOILER!!: Adrienne again

"Adrienne," Gwen repeated, solidifying it in her memory. The girl seemed like someone to be on the good side of, and Gwen knew firsthand how annoying it was when someone mispronounced your name. "I get it, with the name thing. My whole name is Gwenhwyfar, but it's spelled so weird that most teachers don't pronounce it right." It was Gwen-hiff-far. Not Gwen-hoo-ee-far. Gwen was just easier.

"And I'm French. What a diverse group, huh?" Adrienne had seen Mika around before, definitely, and she knew her name (not entirely sure how), but she didn't think they'd ever been properly introduced, and she'd never really learned her real name. "So I have to ask, how'd you get Mika from Amelia?" Sure, they both had an M and ended in A, but that was kind of where the similarities ended. It was just a weird nickname, that was all.

Gwen was about to ask how someone got 'Mika' out of 'Amelia,' but Adrienne beat her to it. Now just wait for the answer. She nodded. "Originally, yeah. We moved to England a couple of years ago though. My mom is English." There. Easy explanation out of the way.

Amelia grinned over to Melek who seemed to be an adorable girl really. She did nod at the girl, “Yeah we do have Kangaroos but we also have the collection of other not-so-great features” she grimaced before going on. “it’s a right nightmare for an arachnophobe like myself” She muttered and shuddered at the thought of the spiders that inhabited her country. “there’s one that eats birds…” she muttered and wrapped her arms around her knees as she sat down on her bed.

The spiders…they just made her go all quiet and scarred. And then Adrienne caught her attention…she could hug her – but she wouldn’t seeing, as that would be entirely weird. “Oh I know what you mean – I never got that great of sleep my first few terms here really…mainly because I’d leave winter and come to the tail end of summer just for the start of another winter” she nodded. Yeah that was one of the weirdest parts about traveling over the date lines.

“If you ever need any tea or anything let me know I’ve got loads of different flavors…and some potions my sister made” she admitted with a grin. Yes, India did make a sleep-potion and maybe just maybe the girl could get her hands on some if she really needed it. And the pronunciation lesson – she almost laughed…the girl obviously was French.

And her assumption was answered. “Ah yeah that’s actually because my mum had the brilliant idea of always calling me by both my middle and first names” she smiled. “Its technically Amelia Kaikoura Johanson…and my little sister could never pronounce either names perfectly and would always call me Meee-kaah at first.” She admitted, “and so I just told people it and it kind of stuck” she admitted with a smile.

Gwen seemed nice. She did grin over to the girl. “I see your parents must have been fans of Arthurian legends” that was a neat trait considering people were still trying to figure out if Arthur was real…

Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.

Hope had finally made herself comfortable enough in her bed with a book...of crossword puzzles. She was on the last clue on the last puzzle on the last page. After this she was going to need another from her trunk. A stupid person. Starts with and I and ends with an S. Whatever could it be, she thought sarcastically as she scratched in the word ignoramous. She tossed the book on her bedside table and moved to kneal at her trunk. She dug through it cursing herself for burying them so deep.

She moved an elegantly crafted mirror out of the way,the one she received over the summer from someone she didn't know, and pulled out a new puzzle book. As she went to close her trunk, she glanced at the mirror and shrieked when she saw the reflection of an older woman staring at her. A woman who looked like an older version of herself. A woman surrounded by trees and blue sky. She looked behind her and no one was there. No trees and no blue sky. When she looked back she saw herself. Young and clutching a puzzle book fear on her face. Merlin. Maybe she needed sleep?

Grabbing the mirror, she closed her trunk and placed it on her bedside table just in case, she climbed back into her bed and tried to focus on her knew puzzle book. It was all her imagination. Being busy with classes and homework and extracuricular activities was obviously taking a toll on her mind.

Adrienne grinned at Mika, never really having met someone before who could empathise with how awful it was to live one place over the summer and somewhere so hugely different during the year. Tora was in America, sure, but that was pretty close to England. At least they spoke the same language! "That does sound weird. I'm glad that we have the same seasons in France, at least, but the time difference gets me every year." Really, it had only been a few days since she was in France, and even though it was just an hour, she was never able to fall asleep until later than she really needed to for school.

"Yeah, thanks!" she said. Usually she had to get accustomed to the jet lag (at least, that's what Papa called it, probably because of his muggle parents- the phrase made no sense to her) over time and wander sleepily through her first few weeks of classes, but a tea or even a potion would be really helpful.

Adrienne had never let anyone nickname her. There had been a few who wanted to call her 'Adri' back when she was younger, but she'd quickly squashed any attempts at shortening her name, because she liked it just the way it was, thank you. "Kaikoura, that's a really cool middle name." Even she had to be careful to pronounce it correctly, but she thought it sounded just about right the way she'd said it. "Does it mean something?"

Adrienne had just opened her mouth to say something more when she heard a shriek from behind her. She turned her head, confused, and saw a blonde girl with a mirror and a book of - were those crossword puzzles? The girl looked terrified, though, so she turned around properly and scooted to the edge of her bed. "Everything okay?" she asked, an edge of worry in her voice, but the girl already seemed to be over whatever had frightened her, because she was climbing back into bed with her book. Adrienne looked at her expectantly, because this definitely required explanation.

Hope gave small smile to the girl. "I think I'm okay. I just saw...well it looked like an older me in the mirror. I don't know. Maybe I'm just tired." She scratched an answer into the boxes and chewed on her lip. "Thanks for asking though. I'm Hope. I don't think we've met." She stared at the mirror and saw it reflecting the ceiling of the dorm. She shook her head and brushed it off. Just a trick of the light.

Well that was certainly weird. Adrienne frowned. "Is it, like, a future-telling mirror or anything? Or just a normal one?" The second option was, of course, much more unexplainable and ominous. "Tired I can get, though. Like I was just saying, haven't gotten a proper night's sleep in days." Weeks, even, though that may have been a bit of an exaggeration. She was used to getting five or six hours a night, and it was only when it got into the region of four or fewer that she began to get delirious and fall asleep during the day.

"Adrienne Rebecca Colbert, third year," she said, giving Hope the full introduction. She'd always liked her name, and figured she may as well use the whole thing whenever it was a possibility. "Pleasure."

"How's the crossword going?"

"How's the crossword going?"
Hope shrugged. "I don't know. I got it delivered to me by owl before I left with a letter congratulating me on my acceptance to Hogwarts. I thought it may have been from the school or something. I have muggles for parents and I didn't know any witches or wizards before for finding out I was a witch...or at least I don't think I did." She hadn't really bothered to question the mirror or the radio, which she loved and left at home.

"Nice to meet you Adrienne. Do you have a nickname?" It felt like a mouthful to the girl. Maybe Adri? Would the older girl be okay with that. Hmm?

"Good. It's my hundred and ninety-second crossword book. I'm obsessed and I can manage to do four a month. Two in English and two in French." Her mother had encouraged her at a young age to learn a second language and find a hobby she enjoyed.

Oh, a muggleborn. Adrienne always felt sorry for them. Imagine having to grow up without magic? Ugh. It must have been awful. She couldn't empathise, but she could certainly sympathise, so she gave Hope a pity-filled look. Still, the mirror part was weird. Her eyebrows drew together as she tried to think of a reason why one would have been sent. "That's abnormal. Nobody I know got anything other than their letters." Not that it was a subject that came up often, but still.

"No, no nicknames," Adrienne said sharply, remembering after a moment to say, "please. I hate nicknames." Anything out of the ordinary was always attractive, so she wanted to get this girl on her side in case it turned out anything interesting was going on with her and her mirror.

Her eyes widened visibly when she heard the number. "A hundred and ninety- that's ridiculous!" she said incredulously. A moment later, she realised what Hope had said afterwards and couldn't help but smile. "Parles-tu français?" she asked. If so, that would bring the number of people she could speak French with up to a whopping two, (though Cutty only kind of counted), which given the last two years was a pretty impressive difference.

Hope looked at the girl and shook her head at the look that she was being given. "As much as it's appreciated it is simply not accepted. No pity please. I've come to terms with it and I enjoy knowing that I'm one of a kind in my family." She sighed. So who sent her the mirror and why was it so weird. "Odd. I guess I'll just look into it later." She wanted to know.

"Okay. No nicknames." She usually didn't give people a choice, but she was making exceptions for all Ravenclaws it seemed. She just couldn't find herself to argue with any of them...well except Huxley. That girl just seemed to get under her skin somehow.

She beamed. "Oui, je parle français." Oh! How wonderful! She rarely had anyone to talk to in French. It seemed to be an almost dead language. "I try not talk too much in French though. I tend to forget that a lot people can't understand." When she started speaking in French, sometimes she just could stop.

Adrienne raised her eyebrows. If she'd been in the girl's position, she would happily have accepted any pity she'd gotten. After all, it was a pitiful situation to be in, not being able to have your parents help you learn simple spells as a kid and not knowing what was going on when you got your Hogwarts letter. But it wasn't her, so she figured she'd oblige the girl's wishes and try to stop feeling sorry for her. It wasn't hard, but she also usually wasn't that considerate either.

"Thanks, she said. "It's not a big deal, I just... really like my name, that's all." And the kind of people who nicknamed her were usually the kind whose faces she had the urge to punch. A few flashed into her mind- nobody she knew from school, but definitely people that made her start to feel annoyed right now, to the point where she had to take a few deep breaths to help her calm down.

Adrienne grinned, asking the other girl, in French, "Are you from France, then? I am. Or did you just learn it from somewhere?" Either was almost equally exciting, but if she turned out not to be English then she could ramble on about how annoying it was sometimes to live here, with all of the considerations and unspoken rules of society that she just seemed to find less of back home.

Dancing Through Life

Gwen sat down on her bed gripping the offending letter and letting the edge crumple. It wasn't as if it was her fault. He knew what the man had said. If she didn't learn magic properly, it could explode out of her and be dangerous. He KNEW that. So why was he acting like Gwen was the sole cause for everything? He was being downright nasty, something she had come to expect from certain siblings, but not her twin.

Maybe she was just thinking about it too hard. Maybe he hadn't meant it in a mean way. She read the thing again.

Text Cut: Letter

Gwenhwyfar,
I know that you are enjoying yourself at that school and don't really care what goes on at home, but you should. You should know that Zeke has been in lots of trouble lately and poor mom is really stressed out. She cries at nighttime after she thinks we're asleep.

Also, this magic thing is out of hand. October has been having nightmares about you as a green-skinned witch riding a broomstick and cackling as you cast evil spells on her. I think what it boils down to is that she misses you, Gwenny.

Due to your selfishness, this family is falling apart. Nobody has heard from dad in three weeks. It's as if he doesn't want to talk to us. I know it's because of your freaky magic. You always were his favorite and now that he doesn't have you to spoil what does he need with the rest of us?

Sorry to dump this all on you at once, but you need to know. And you need to come home. People ask about you all the time and I don't know what to tell them. To be honest, it's a little embarrassing to tell them that you go to a school for smart kids, because that makes them think I'm not as smart as you and that's not fair. I'm just the normal one. Actually, I'm smarter than you. You even have that stupid dyslexia thing. So, I'm going to start telling people you're in Juvie. They'll probably believe me too.

If you ever want to start caring about us lowly "muggles" let me know.
-Iestyn

Nope, he definitely meant it to be mean. Gwen pulled her knees up to her chest refusing to cry. Gwenhwyfar Jensen didn't cry. It wasn't really a thing in her family. If you were hurt, you worked through it and got over it and you never cried except for emotional manipulation. There was nobody here to manipulate.

She ripped the letter violently in half and tossed to toward the ground. She didn't need them. She was magic.

One of the many perks to having dropped most of her classes, was that Dora now had plenty of time to do whatever the hell she wanted to do. One of the disadvantages of having a badge was that even with no classes she was still expected to participate in other school events and encourage other students to do so as well. But Dora being Dora decided today was not the day for extracurriculars.

Naturally she was sitting in her dorm in the middle of the day, travel books laid out before her, and a black dragon leather journal sitting open in her lap. She was currently the only one in the dorm, which was nice, and was using the time to check out new places further south to visit.

Also drinking a butterbeer, she had one of those too.

Blue found herself just... bored a lot of the time now that she was free for a lot of periods and had no Quidditch-y type sports to occupy her time. Homework wasn't an option. It was the kind of bored that required someone else to help entertain her. Not school work. She wasn't lame enough to spend all of last year working about studying and then continue feeling that frantic this term. Not yet any. Ask again in seventh year.

She was humming slightly under her breath when she entered the dorms and found Dora. Thank Merlin. A much needed cure for her lack of amusement.

"Hey."

Blue flopped down on her dorm-mates bed, reaching over to take the bottle of butterbeer before taking a swig and handing it back.

"Whatcha doing?"

Dora didn't even so much as flinch when Blue joined her on the bed or snatched up her drink. It was Blue and so it was allowed, and a frequent occurrence. The sixth leaned back on her pillows and glanced up at the other girl, taking a moment to pull herself out of her reverie. "Nothing important. Just planning out my travels for next summer and my future after Hogwarts." Totally not a big deal. "Where have you been?" Could Dora guess? Guessing was fun.

Moving aside some of the books for the other girl's comfort, she stretched out her legs. "I've considered redecorating our dorm a bit as well." Boredom did that to a girl.

Blue scooched over closer so she could awkwardly angle her head to give the books a glance. "Find anything of interest?" She straightened but still pulled a travel book onto her lap and thumbed through the pages, not properly giving them a read before returning it to the gap on the duvet. Where had she been? "You could guess but I think you'll overestimate me and then be disappointed with me when you discover quite how boring my life has been."

The sixth year mimicked Dora's movements, leaning back onto one of the four posts of the bed, stretching her own legs out. She glanced around. "This room is extremely dull. What did you have in mind?"

"Greece." She turned the book so that it would be easier for her friend to see before moving it back her way and marking a page. "It's definitely on the list of places to visit." The when wasn't exactly planned just yet, but that wasn't important right now since they were in school and all. Sigh. "I doubt disappointed, more un-surprised or expecting. It's not like there's that much to do in the castle." Dora grinned. Blue's life was hardly disappointing, she was dating Nigel, mostly Dora assumed the girl was off snogging his pretty face.

The looking at travel books could wait though. They needed to redecorate. Dora drew her wand and silently cast at all the books, not watching as they went to their proper place on the bookshelf as she laid beside Blue. "I was thinking of redecorating. Moving some stuff around.... and moving that spare bed out of the way. It never gets used." Not even when they had company over.
