| | The Office of Professor Newlin If Professor Newlin happens to be inside her office when you knock, the first thing you will notice upon being ushered inside is that the room has a very coastal look to it. Having lived in Fiji for the past few years, Vanora has taken a liking to the beach and decided to dress her office up accordingly. The next thing you will notice, and the thing that seems to be the most out of place in the entire room, is the ginormous cat-like playhouse sitting in the corner behind the Professor's desk. Don't be fooled, however. The little creature that can be seen lounging on the top platform or poking her head out of just to be nosy is not a cat at all. Go on ahead! Move closer and even hold your hand out towards her. Grise won't bite.
Once you're able to tear your attention away from Grise, you'll most likely notice the shelves on either side of the office. Sitting on most of the shelves is where you can find numerous different books and text on magical creatures and even some on muggle animals. There is always so much to learn, and the Professor's collection is always growing. The rest of the shelves are full of small knick-knacks from her travels when she was younger, a few small collections, mostly seashells, from her time in Fiji and other beachy places, and some picture frames. If you look close enough at the pictures, you'll see Vanora during those travels, along with the many creatures and animals she encountered. And perhaps, if you look even closer at the pictures from her Hogwarts days, you may see the recognizable face of your lovely Healer.
But, you probably aren't in the office to just look around, are you? Have a seat in one of the comfy chairs in front of the Professor's desk. Or, if you'd rather not, there is also a matching sofa closer to Grise's house. Don't make yourself too comfortable, though. Grise will want to get comfortable on your lap.

On the other hand, she didn't want to be sitting in her office, doing nothing but sitting, but the cold threw off everything and anything she wanted to do! She could have went inside the castle, of course, maybe visit Cece for a little while, but that meant being far from her creatures, and after everything that happened last term, she didn't want to be more than a hut's distance away.
She was just about to pour herself another cup of very hot chocolate, to think about what she could do besides sit there, when a knock at her door brought her out of her thoughts. At least she didn't have to decide if she wanted to leave her hut just yet.
Picking up her wand, she used it to open her door, so she didn't have to get up, and seeing Oakey standing right there, with an owl perched on top of his head caused her to laugh. "Come on in!" The both of them. Hehe.
Oakey could help but laugh at the exact same time as Professor Newlin did. He was sure she thought it was funny to see an owl perched ontop of someones head, but Oakey found it hilarious that the COMC Professor was overly bunndled up sitting inside an office that looked like a beach house, one of these things doesn't belong here. He covered his mouth up quickly to keep him from laughing any longer. "Sorry Ma'am." Oakey said as he stepped inside.
Moving towards her desk Oakey took a seat by Professor Newlin's desk. "Professor, I wanted to ask a favor of you." He looked up to his Eagle Owl, and noticed the bird eyeing the COMC withis his large eyes. Before he could continue, Valentine fluttered slowly from Oakey's Head and onto the Professor's. Even when sickly the damn bird flirted with women, "I want to figure out how old Valentine is. He hasn't been himself since I visited him last, and I can't tell if he's just sick or old."
He purchased Valentine in his first year, because he was angry with the bird for attacking his hand, and wanted to teach the damn bird a lesson. It only occured to him by the next year that Valentine was fully grown, and never cared how old he was until now.

It only occured to him by the next year that Valentine was fully grown, and never cared how old he was until now. Vanora wasn't exactly sure what Oakey was laughing at, although she had a feeling it had something to do with all the sweaters she was wearing, but she didn't think that was nearly as funny as the owl that was perched right on top of his head. Was that a trick he had taught the creature? Or.. was that the reason why he was visiting her? Perhaps the bird was just kind of.. stuck there?
Either reason for the visit, though, she gestured towards the empty seat in front of her desk for the Hufflepuff to sit in, and she even waved off his apology. She might have done the same to him, since now she was being asked to do him a favor and her thoughts were back on the bird really being stuck there, but before she could even open her mouth, the owl hopped off of Oakey's head and landed.. right on top of hers.
It caused a new set of giggles to leave her mouth, and reaching up, she gently took hold of the owl and placed him down on top of her desk. Was her hair all a mess now? She didn't care. "It's actually really difficult, if not impossible to tell how old an owl is unless you've raised it since hatching." she glanced over at Oakey as she pulled a few owl treats from out of her desk and set them in front of Valentine. "I wouldn't worry about his age, though. Eagle owls, especially ones that live in captivity can live up to sixty years." And she had seen a sixty year old owl. Valentine did not look that old. "But maybe we can figure out why he hasn't been himself. Have you been doing anything differently? Maybe sending more letters than usual?" She set a few owl treats in front of Oakey as well, in case he wanted some.

She set a few owl treats in front of Oakey as well, in case he wanted some. Oakey looked on with widened eyes as Newlin lifted Valentine from her head onto the table. Merlin, if he tried that any other time the damn bird would be nipping, clawing, and screeching like crazy! "But, you can figure out his age?" Oakey asked. She was the Animal Expert at Hogwarts, and she could do the difficult things that he clearly could not. "Sixty years!" Oakey was utterly surprised by this, he was going to be stuck with his bird forever, unless he could convince Aegis to take him once he starts school.
Oakey watched his Eagle Owl nibble down the last of the treats that Professor Newlin put out and hopped over to the ones that were in front of him. Valentine gave Oakey a hard stare, and tilted his head slightly. "Yeah, go a..." The bird didn't need to hear, or get Oakey's permission to eat them, he picked one up, then fluttered to the top of Oakey's head.
The unusual thing, would she believe it? "We'll he's not as violent as he used to be a few months ago." Sounded weird, but the two of them never got along since Oakey purchased the Eagle Owl. "He's always scratching, and biting me whenever I try to send a letter, but I've sent my last few escaping unscathed, that's why I'm worried he may be sick." |

She didn't knock or didn't pause for long outside this door, though. No. The redhead simply took a thin pink scroll out of her bag and slid it carefully under the door. There. Newlin would know what that meant.
Then she headed back up to the castle, her bag a little lighter but her heart a little heavier.
