As you trot out toward the marked-out track for the Hippogriff Hundred Yard Dash, your eyes are immediately drawn to the five beautiful half-bird, half-horse creatures standing proudly behind a locked paddock, each in its own stall from which it will take off for the race.

The raven-like black beauty is named Talonfingers; the chestnut one is Tailfeathers; the white one is Eagleye; the reddish one is Quickhooves; and the gray spotted one is named Winnerwings.

Pick your hippogriff and place your bets! Baskets for gambling tokens sit before each hippogriff's respective stall. Once the bets are placed, the hippogriffs will take off down the track, hopefully not flying (as that will result in disqualification) for each of the three rounds.

If your chosen hippogriff wins, everything you gambled will be doubled! If not... sorry Charlie, but the House gets your tokens.

The Rules:
We will have three rounds, each with plenty of time in between for you to place your bets.

You have a limit of 10 tokens to bet with. You may choose to have less based on your participation in the other activities BUT you cannot exceed 10 tokens.

Please do NOT RP for the Hippogriffs. After the end of the three rounds you will have an opportunity to approach the hippogriffs, pet them, and RP with them.

To place your bet, make a quality RP post of placing the amount of galleons on the ONE HIPPOGRIFF you want to win in front of its corresponding basket.

WE will RP the outcome of the hippogriff race for you, though you are more than welcome to RP cheering them on.

Remember all SS Site Rules.

Professor Williamson stood out near the edge of the Forbidden Forest, nearly bouncing on the edge of his toes as he waited for the students to trickle out. Every so often he wandered back to where ~~his~~ the hippogriffs stood in their paddocks, reaching out a hand to pet their beaks or stroke their heads.

Gambling and hippogriffs. Two of his FAVORITE THINGS! Now where were the students?

Kurumi made her way over to the hippogriff area with her eyes sparkling. "Wooooooow, professor, they are beautiful," Kurumi exclaimed. The hippogriffs, obviously. Her eyes were especially drawn to the chestnut and white hippogriffs for some strange reason, and she simply couldn't keep her eyes off of them.

"Can I place a bet of three tokens on..." she squinted to try and see their names. "Tailfeathers?" Sure, those other ones had fancy names that implied winning and stuff, but many times people named animals that because they were too proud and assumed victory. Too much pressure on a creature was a horrible thing.

Then Ira came across this. They had to gamble? Ooh! That was exciting. Ira's mother never let her do that!

Ira went in and saw that Kurumi was already there and it seemed like she had placed her bet. So which hippogriff to bet on? Ira looked at all of them.. The five hippogriffs standing there were so beautiful! and looked majestic. They all were so different!

But the raven-like black beauty stood out from all others. Ira looked at its name and saw that it was named Talonfingers. So that would be the hippogriff she was betting on.

"Professor, can I place a bet of 2 tokens on Talonfingers?"

Students were allowed to gamble....what?

Jezz had shown up and looked over at all the beautiful Hippogriffs. She took a special liking to the reddish one. She squinted and read the name on the name plates Quickhooves. It definitely sounded like a winner to her.

"May I place a bet of three tokens on Quickhooves?"

Oh come on! There was also a betting game! A BETTING GAME! And they were betting on hippogriffs. Pwew. Those wonderful creatures are surely something worth to bet on. And she was feeling lucky today that she was very excited to bet.

She looked at the hippogriffs first before betting. Somehow, the white one had caught her attention. "E..eagleye?" So that was its name..Hmm..Eagle..Ravenclaw.. Good! She'll choose that one. So she headed to the white hippogriff's stall. "I'd like to bet three tokens on Eagleye.." the eaglet said.

Zhenya walked up to those familiar and beautiful creatures she had been introduced to in last years care of magical creatures, taught by a man from the department of magical creatures. They had fascinated her, and she had really liked the hippogriff she had connected with that lesson. She now looked around and decided to put her bets on the Reddish one. "hello, may I please put three tokens on Quickhooves?" she asked. Now she was nervous. She had never expected to gamble anything but here she was, gambling AND having fun!! She waited nervously in anticipation.

His eyes not moving away from the hippogriff's, Daichi moved closer to the edge of the forest as he wondered what this game was about. He was mesmorized by the black raven color hippogriff and his mouth fell a little open when he was close enough to read the game rules.

Betting?!

"P-professor?!" he asked as he looked at the man. "My dad says betting is wrong..." he blinked innocently a couple of times before moving his hand in his pocket. "i bet 20000 galleons on that black one right there~!" He said with a sly smile and pointed towards TalonFingers while handing him two tokens.

Okay so it wasn't 20000 galleons, but it sounded cooler.

Laura looked at the Professor and was in shock. "Professor I've been told it's naughty to bet before you are 18." Laura was never allowed in the betting shop when her Grandad went in, so seriously why did the Professor want her to bet, well she'd give this a go. "Professor I bet you all my candy for a month that the black one wins." Laura just thought that sounded more interesting than betting tokens, though she handed over two tokens.

"The gambling is OPTIONAL," William clarified cheerfully, petting Winnerwings' beak fondly. "But if you wanna win, you'll do it anyway!"

He collected the students bets in their respective baskets, keeping track of who wagered what in a tiny black book ~~just like a bookie!~~ Once all the bets were written down, Willy tucked his book into his back pocket and looked around.

"Last chance to place your bets before the first round begins! LAST CHANCE, folks!"

Adam walked up to the area that had been designed for the Hippogriff Dash. He saw all their names an began to analyze each one. From what he could guess, the names that referred to winning in some way, such as winnerwings sounded like a bad idea. The name already implied bad luck by it just sounding like it'd be an easy bet, win. All the others had similar names as that.

Tailfeathers. That would be the one.

"Professor, I'll put three tokens on Tailfeathers." He told Professor Williamson

Tiffany didn't know much about Hippogriff Dash but anyway she got to have tried once in her life. She went and scanned those lovely creatures carefully. They looked great and wonderful, as if all of them were going to win. But there was one which caught her attention. The one in that special color, chestnut, Tiffany has never seen a hippogriff in that color before. It looked pretty.

Well she guessed it would be the one. "Professor, I would like to put two tokens on that one in chestnut, Tailfeathers right?"she said cheerfully.

Given that she had never won anything in her life, Ari doubted that she'd be lucky enough this time, but that didn't stop her from wanting to get involved. Approaching the now quite large groupof people, the third year tried to decide which beautiful hippogriff to bet on. For some reason, the white one seemed more elegant than all the other ones. Of course, elegance had nothing to do with winning,but Ariadne wanted to stick to her choice. 'Eagleye.' she announced. 'Erm...that is, two tokens for Eagleye, please, Professor.' Politeness was important.

Wililamson nodded as more students came up to place their bets, whipping out his little black book again to start jotting things down.

Once that was done, Williamson cleared his throat and looked around at the assembled students, scooping up their baskets and moving out of the way of the hippogriffs.

"All right, all right now," he called out loudly. "Everyone, give the hippogriffs some distance." Just in case they decided to stray from the track. "I'm going to start the race in THREE.........TWO........ONE!"

He pointed his wand straight up in the air and it went off like the boom of a cannon. "AND THEY'RE OFF!"

The hippogriffs' stall doors burst open and all five of them took off at a quick trot, squawking at each other as they started down the track.

Kurumi stood back as instructed ~~despite the urge to run up to her hippogriff and give him a big hug~~ and waited. She didn't have to wait very long though as soon Professor Williamson began the race with a bang. Literally!

Kurumi jump with fright before her eyes glued on the chestnut creature. "Go Tailfeathers!" Kurumi jumped up and down and cupped her mouth with her hands. "Show them your dust! Show them your ... TAILFEATHERS!"

Adam covered his ears when the "starting" sound boomed through the air it sounded as he almost had been killed. His heart jumped with fright an he screamed "AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" while clutching his heart.

His eyes then got big when he turned to his side an faced Kurumi. Could she really...blow out her lungs. Adam had never heard her so, excited before. Could this possibly Kurumi if she were at a concert? But he realized they were on the same team. "C'MON TAILFEATHERS! Two Gryffindors Believe in you!C'mon! We know you can do this!"

Quickhooves was the first Hippogriff out the gate, and he took off like a rocket, basically leaving a red trail of sparks for the others to follow in. The hippogriff squawked loudly and turned his head to look at the others trailing behind him, wondering why they weren't hurrying away from that cannon sound???

Winnerwings and Tailfeathers were neck and neck with Quickhooves, with Winnerwings trying to nip at Tailfeathers' neck as they gained some ground on Quickhooves. Tailfeathers heard people spurring him on and resisted the urge to kick Winnerwings in the side. Rude hippo.

He let out a little, "CaCAWW!" and made eye contact with the Gryffindors, picking up the pace to pass Quickhooves as they rounded the first turn.

Eagleye and Talonfingers, meanwhile, brought up the rear, with Talonfingers being just slightly behind Winnerwings as they all made the turn. Eagleye started to fall further behind as his eagle eyes caught sight of a yummy-looking hawk flying over the forbidden forest. With a loud caw, the hippogriff took off from the track, abandoning the race and all who had betted on him in favor of a good snack.

"Well there goes Eagleye!" shouted Williamson with a chuckle, his hand shielding his eyes as he watched the progress of the hippogriff. "Sorry ladies," he offered toward the Gryffindor and the Ravenclaw who had bet on him, "but I doubt Eagleye will be back in time. Looks like he thought chasing a hawk was more important than winning a race!" And even if the hippogriff did return, he was disqualified, so.

He chuckled some more and turned back to the race, clapping loudly as Talonfingers caught up and passed Winnerwings, while Tailfeathers and Quickhooves were neck and neck, nearing the finish line.

"GO HIPPOGRIFFS GO!" William called out impartially. "WHO WILL IT BE? Looks like....."

POOF! The wizarding camera rigged up at the end of the line captured the image of the four remaining hippogriffs, all of which finished the race panting a bit. William ignored the winner's photo, moving instead to lead the hippogriffs over to a trough of water and then back into the stalls. Then he grabbed the photo and shook it as it developed, revealing the winner.

"Congratulations.... TAILFEATHERS!" he announced loudly. "Kurumi, Adam, and Tiffany all get double tokens!" Williamson beamed, oddly proud of all the gambling going on as he passed back four tokens to Tiffany and six tokens each to the Gryffindor Prefects.

Now then. "Betting for round two may start now!"

Tailfeathers must've been exhausted by now. An to think, Adam still had two more races to cheer the other hippogriffs while they drank their water, catching up on a sip. He knew that he shouldn't pick Tailfeathers again because he might have the pressure of having to win an would not do so well under it all. He'd be going for Talonfeathers.

"Good job,boy. I'm very proud of you. I knew you'd be a good pick-your name said it all. " He spoke in an encouraging tone. Of course he was still standing way back where Professor Williamson had told them to stand minutes ago.

"Professor, I'm gonna put 2 tokens on Talonfeathers." He informed the teacher.

It was times like these that Ira couldn't understand whether to be sad or happy! She was sad that her bet, Talonfingers didn't win.. But she was happy that Kurumi won. Ira loved Kurumi and was happy hat she had got her tokens!

But now Ira had lost her two tokens! That felt bad. So this was the reason her parents always used to warn her that gambling was a very risky business!

But anyways, she decided she was going to gamble again! And no, she wasn't going for Talonfingers again! Instead this time she went for the red one, Quickhooves. She hoped that this time she wouldn't be in for disappointment!

"Professor, I want to place a bet of 2 tokens on Quickooves.." she informed the professor

"Thank you, professor," Kurumi smiled as she accepted her 6 tokens and placed them in her. Now, who should she bet on next. Kurumi was really taken with Tailfeathers, but would he be too tired to perform just as well the next race? Hippogriffs were very proud creatures, so it was possible that the creature would try even harder to keep his title. On the flip side, BECAUSE hippogriffs were very proud creatures it was also possible that Winnerwings, having come in last place, would be very angry and determined to make a name for himself in the next race. She was beginning to wish that she was a hippogriff whisper so that she could understand the pschy of the racing hippogriffs in front of them.

But, her mother had always told her not to put all her eggs in one basket, so Kurumi offered Tailfeathers an appreciative bow and looked back at Professor Williamson. "Three tokens on Winnerwings, please," Kurumi said as she handed over three more tokens from her original ten.

Sierra watched from the sidelines as the herd of Hippogriffs burst out the gate and took off. She watched each of them, one at a time, and wished she'd have stepped up moments earlier and bet on the first round. Spotting Hollingberry, she made a low hiss as her eyes flickered from the girl to the Hippogriffs and back again. As much as she hated to admit it, when that girl was around, she always ending up winning or beating out everyone else.

...and of course the hippogriff Hollingberry bet on had won. Of course.

With that round over and a new one beginning, Sierra stepped up. "Four tokens for...Quickhooves, please."

Williamson whipped out his little black notebook again and quickly started jotting down the bets, eying the male Gryffindor prefect as he butchered Talonfingers' name. Tutututut. The hippogriff obviously didn't like that either, as he looked up from his trough and gave the boy a glare.

"I'd like to place 3 tokens on Quickhooves again please," Jezzabelle said smiling. She was very fond of the Hippogriff for some reason and had some serious faith in Quickhooves.
