Default The Office of Professor Renée Bishop

Upon entering the office, most people are surprised at its appearance. It looks nothing like what you would expect inside Hogwarts, with soft green walls and light woods floors. The heavy wooden furniture could possibly work, but then you're drawn to the charmed doors. They don't lead anywhere except to a long drop from the tower, but as you look at them, it seems like they do. Professor Bishop likes the look of gardens and such, and this brings them to her when she's not actually outside. Inside the many shelves and cubbyholes of the desk and other furniture are mementos from the professor's travels and her life before she came to Hogwarts, but her prized possession is the delicately inlaid wooden box set on the corner of the desk. This is where she keeps all her writings, and is most likely where she has the rough draft for her next novel. Along with the box are a few new picture frames, although they are turned away from view.

Comfortable chairs are set on the rug, facing the desk, for students or other visitors, and across from that is a large bookshelf containing any manner of books on Divination, sets of Tarot cards, oracle cards, and other items that can be used in the subject. In one of the corners nearest the "doors" stands an elegant stand where Anastasia, the professor's pet phoenix, can most likely be found, and on the floor next to the desk is a cushion for her crup puppy, Bowie.

Once you are invited in, feel free to take a seat, pet Bowie, or look around. Just don't touch anything unless you are given express permission to do so. Professor Bishop is very particular about her belongings.

ooc: Please do not post in here unless you have posted in the corridor thread first and been invited inside. (or have otherwise been given permission) Thank you.

The same as last year. And now he was free to feel comfortable while being inside this office. Perfect!

He smiled to Bowie, and the Phoenix received a nod on his behalf. Yes, he suddenly found out she had a Phoenix at her office, but he wouldn't comment on that. However, Phoenixes were kind of awesome, no? The epitome of immortality and loyalty. Good creatures.

The fifth year was soon seated, and he eyed the bookshelf from the corner of his eye. It had become clear that he forgot to research if she'd written any books, or to ask Nolan about it, because the man would know, right?

Anyway, "So, as I've said before, there's something I wanted to discuss with you, Professor," he started to say, "But first...I trust you had a good summer?" wait until she hears who he ran up to.

Anyway, "So, as I've said before, there's something I wanted to discuss with you, Professor," he started to say, "But first...I trust you had a good summer?" wait until she hears who he ran up to.
As she'd let Treyen walk past her into her office, Renée had kept an eye on him. He'd seemed less disconcerted about her being there after their discussion last term, but he still hadn't been in here since then. Things could have changed over the summer, but as she'd silently watched, a smile crept onto her face. It seemed everything was going to be fine, and even her pets had nothing to begrudge Treyen for, as the Hufflepuff had acknowledged both of the animals. She'd known he knew Bowie, but Anastasia was another story. In fact, she couldn't even recall if the phoenix had been there during his visit last term. It didn't matter, though, as acknowledgment had been made.

Heading over to lean against her desk, as she usually ended up doing during student visits, her smile grew into more of a grin as she saw him eye her bookshelf. Seemed Treyen had forgotten about another thing from last term, as well, although she knew now that there was at least one person at the castle who knew about her literary career. Other than the little that she'd revealed to the Huffelpuff last term. He hadn't asked, though, so she simply nodded as he'd spoken, her grin turning more friendly than amused. "Of course," she replied, glancing down at the things on her desk as he asked about her summer. "My summer was quite nice. Relaxing, in a way," she answered, glossing over the undercurrent of confusion she still felt about certain events over the summer. "I assume your summer was good as well? Or does that factor into what brings you here?" They weren't necessarily mutually exclusive concepts, but she had had to ask.

Right. She'd already mentioned he was always welcome at her office, but she seemed a bit preoccupied when he entered...was she expecting him to behave the same as lat year? Interesting. Bishop should've known by now that he was more than happy to have her in Nolan's place, yet she was never going to find that out unless he told her, right?

Well, he wasn't going to.

At her reply, he smiled. Relaxing. It wasn't like she had an easy term, but at least she had a nice summer. "Good." That was his reply, and perhaps she'll be able to see that he really meant it. Renée seemed to be able to read people well.

Oh. His summer? The Divination Professor didn't mention what she did, so, he probably shouldn't get into details as well, he'd shared enough details with Mr. Stryker.

"It was great, but...," and here is where the matter of the conversation will begin, "...I got to think a lot about what I wanted to do after my Hogwarts time was up," which is nowhere near soon, but he sort of tended to get ahead of things, sometimes, almost never, just this time, "And, well, I actually talked to Nolan about it over the summer," he'd been the one Treyen pretty much told that he had no idea what he wanted to do, and then the man presented him with a bunch of ideas, "One idea he gave me, reminded me of you," it was a nice idea, okay, and the boy was still talking, but getting more comfortable by the second, as if the matter wasn't as serious as he'd considered, "He spoke of research." he nodded and his eyes flickered between the bookshelf and Bishop.

The boy had paused, though, and then relaxed into his seat a little, "I think you may know a bit more about that than he did," mainly because she had suggested something similar the last time they spoke.

Surely, Bishop knew that the last thing he said was actually a question.

Surely, Bishop knew that the last thing he said was actually a question.
It was a fascinating exercise in restraint, both keeping herself from trying to get verification that she was more accepted this term than last and watching Treyen choose not to offer that information up freely. Either way, Renée didn't really question it all, as the feast had seemed to prove she was part of Hogwarts now anyway. Not to mention the fact that her office felt like home, as much as anywhere she didn't spend a whole year in could.

His response to her vague comment about her summer was entertaining as well, as it seemed to express so much in just one word. And she sent him a grin to show she'd understood, just as much as she understood his own reticence at relaying details. Details weren't needed, not unless they became relevant to the conversation. Just as she knew her own summer activities had not much to do with what she assumed was the true topic, she imagined his were similar. Not the same, but not related at least. "I'm glad to hear that," she replied, as he at least said his summer was great, but then she nodded as he continued.

"It's never too early to at least consider ideas as to your future," she said, smiling a little as it seemed he'd decided to insert at least a few more details as to at least one thing that had happened during his summer. It truly didn't bother her that he'd brough Nolan up this time, as she knew it hadn't been meant cruelly or anything like that. He was good for advice, that was certain, even if she hadn't spoken to him for a while now. "Oh really," she said with a light laugh as he'd said something had reminded him of her, glancing at the bookshelf herself momentarily. Odds were it wasn't related to that, though. It would have ben infinitely amusing, but she imagined there wasn't much Nolan could have said that would make Treyen think of that. And that assumption was proved correct as the Hufflepuff continued. "Ah."

There had been another glance at the bookshelf that time around, however, and that made another smile cross her face as she shifted comfortably against her desk. "I wouldn't necessarily say I know more about research than most of your other professors," she responded. Any of them, past, present or future. "It certainly helps as a way of learning once you've decided on what subject you'd like to pursue, though." In her case, her research had been regarding Divination, as well as much of her traveling. At least the traveling she'd done when she was younger. She was getting more interested in the idea of travel for amusement now.

Selina stood up from her seat when Bishop approached. She seemed to slow down when she noticed it was Selina at her office. As she walked over to her door she unlocked it and still kept her eyes on Selina. But while she unlocked her door she asked if everything was okay gesturing for Selina to enter the office. She pushed a strand of her red hair behind her ear and made her way over to the door walking in behind Bishop. Once she was in the office she turned and looked around the office. It was the same, Bishop was the same, it was Selina who was different.

"Ma'am, everything is fine. Well I mean everything is between, its never fine. But I'm here to ask for your help. I need to be able to control it. It comes in without a warning showing me things I don't want to see. But if I could go into the future and choose what I wanted to see, maybe it could help people... help me."

She took in a deep breath and pressed on, "Professor I need to try. And I need someone to help me. No one else is equipt to help me. Kurumi knows but she doesn't have experience. I'm afraid if I go to anyone else I'll end up like those Prophets in the Department of Mysteries. That they will crack my mind so all I do is spew out the future all day long. I don't want to live like that.

"But I also don't want to be afraid of this curse anymore. I know it isn't a gift, bur my burden will not tie me down. If I could just be in control.... for once than maybe I could change my destiny."

Why was it that Treyen felt like he was being watched? It wasn't like Bishop was listening but like she was trying to get more information just by studying his reactions.

She can always ask. He'll answer.

The boy didn't mind being watched either, he was still a Lockhart.

This was the first time he'd seen her smile so wide, and he'd enjoyed witnessing such a thing, it allowed him to relax even more, as if he wasn't talking to a Professor he'd been rude to last year, but as if this was a Professor that had been there from his start at Hogwarts. He sort of imagined this is what he'd feel if Kapoor was still around.

Either way, he smiled back. Not that it was the hardest task to accomplish, but still.

The Hufflepuff nodded once, and then again when she'd mentioned Nolan in some way, yes, he'd seen the man in Diagon Alley and didn't miss the opportunity to greet him. Who would, right? HE NEEDED TO TELL ELLIE! He failed to inform her at the feast, but, yeah, back to Renée...

...there. The research part. He listened, and once she was done, or so he thought, he started again, leaning towards her desk, "You mentioned it wasn't always related to books, though," he said, "Last time, I mean," clearly, not now, but she'd also mentioned something both important and annoying to him. That thing had gotten him to one obvious conclusion, "Every career has their own research," and he sounded defeated, as if he'd given up, yet he truly wasn't, "And research alone should be directed to one field," it was like a never ending circle of the unknown, if you had no idea what to do, that is.

His mind was working now, that's why he failed to hear the people waiting outside and...hey, when did the girl enter?! Ooooh, lookit! Bowie again. Smile.

All Renée could do as Selina entered her office and looked around was wait. She had a feeling she knew why the Gryffindor was there, especially as they hadn’t talked at the feast and she couldn’t imagine things had gotten that much better over the summer that a talk wouldn’t have happened. She had headed for her desk as she waited for the girl to make the first move in the conversation, scratching Bowie behind the ears for a moment as the cruppy nudged her leg. She’d turned back to the room’s inhabitant as the redhead spoke, though. “I’m sorry to hear that,” she said sympathetically, before nodding as she was asked to help again. That was the difficult part, since she still didn’t share the unfortunate ability as Selina herself. She could control whose thoughts she explored. Visions were significantly different.

“The future isn’t set in stone. That’s the first thing you need to realize regarding what you see. That is only one possibility, and like any type of Divination, it requires interpretation,” she said, perching on the edge of her desk like she so often did. It helped her feel closer to the students as opposed to sitting behind her desk and having that between them. “Going back in history, as I imagine you well know, the record of prophecies that explicitly state futures is slim. Even Professor Trelawney couldn’t say that her prediction specifically stated harry was the chosen one. Just that it was someone born at that time, and events dictated what the prophecy told.” She couldn’t say the story would make Selina feel better, but at least it could help her understand that what she saw was elusive. Images, not necessarily cold, hard reality.

But she needed to get to the crux of the matter, and that was the Gryffindor’s feeling that she couldn’t control anything. Her visions and what she saw, at least. “Unfortunately, I can’t say I’m aware of a way you could control when the visions occur, but once you’re in them, you should be able to focus and direct it where you want. Get a clearer picture, at least.” That was what had instigated her directive to research her ability last term. Knowing how others experienced it should have helped her understand things, but unfortunately it seemed the girl was more familiar with the horror stories. “Not all Seers end up crazy.” She knew of at least one, who at least currently seemed still rather lucid. Reports at least seemed to say that.

His mind was working now, that's why he failed to hear the people waiting outside and...hey, when did the girl enter?! Ooooh, lookit! Bowie again. Smile.
Renée could tell her watching had conflicted Treyen, even without truly reading him. His very mannerisms seemed to show that, and she appreciated the returned smile. Things had changed drastically since this time last year, and it made her feel better knowing there wasn’t that animosity. She’d much rather have her students feel like they were comfortable in here, not like they were fighting against emotions or anything else. Even if she’d had an appreciation for the loyalty both him and Ellie had had for Nolan, not fighting against it was much easier.

The room had stayed quiet for a bit, though, which made her wonder if the spirit was still haunting their conversation. The discussion of seeing the previous professor over the summer hadn’t seemed to awaken much tension, but she still had the tiniest feeling that she’d always be proving herself. As the Hufflepuff had finally spoken again, though, she raised an eyebrow slightly as he’d leaned forward. That was interesting, especially as his words hadn’t seemed particularly secretive. “You’re right. Research isn’t always restricted to books. Traveling, talking to people, all of that adds to what you can learn about any subject,” she replied with another smile. That was how she’d learned everything she knew, although books were still particularly precious to her as well. Not everything could really be written down, as that made it lose a bit of its magic. Especially in her case, studying Divination.

His other comment elicited a nod from her. “Everything has its own pathway, research or not. And you’d be surprised. Things cross over more than you’d think.” It was impossible to restrict research simply to one topic. It seemed that was what had brought him there, in any case, and her expression turned a bit more sympathetic at his own. “The first step to choosing a topic to research, whether it be career related or otherwise, is to decide on something you enjoy. That’ll make it all much more exciting, and even more interesting,” she advised gently, hoping it helped his confusion even the tiniest bit. She hadn’t chosen her own subject on a whim, just as she hadn’t entirely chosen her writing on a whim either. Both had always seemed intimately connected to her, and her experiences. One more than the other in each case, of course, but she had a feeling he still only saw her as his Divination professor. There was no need to go into anything else at the moment.

Selina listened to her Professor talk and nodded her head. Everything that she said seemed valid, the whole the future is what you make it stuff. But when you had seen all that Selina had seen she could not believe that the future could be changed. It was implausible to Selina. Yet verbalizing that to anyone made her sound like she had accepted defeat and the whole purpose of her wanting to come to Bishop was to beat it.

But slowly as Bishop talked it seemed less and less likely that Selina could beat it, control it and in turn control herself. At this point she wanted to crawl up in a corner and cry. It was like hearing that she would die in a year and that she had very little time to live. Because that was what the visions were, they ate up her life and her soul. Every time she had one she less and less attached the to Earth. Maybe that was why she liked Quidditch, because for a moment the attachment to Earth was supposed to occur when you flew. She felt in control, because, well, she wasn't and at least she was aware of that.

At the point of Trelawney she crossed her hands over her chest and looked down ashamed, "Ma'am... I don't see hard images. I see scenes... people talk, move, there is life. And then I get wrapped up in the scene of the future unable to escape until my mind decides that it will set me free. My mind is a cage."

Then she said the main point- Not all Seers end up crazy. Selina backed away to the door and whispered, "Then why am I?" The next moment she was running out the door and back to the safety of her strong tough facade that, if only for a moment, gave her some comfort.

OOC. Hey there! So Katherine and I wanna talk to Bishop post Divination. So I ended the RP here. Hopes that's okay with you

Er, now, wait a minute. There was no girl inside. He blinked twice and decided that the illusion could've easily being created by...Myrtle, or something. Whatever.

'You're right'. That sounded so...amazing. Especially coming from Bishop. Yet, what he'd been right about wasn't precisely as important as one would think. So, it truly didn't matter.

All Treyen Lockhart needed was to have that little piece of information given to him to be confirmed somehow. And once confirmed, well, he had no idea what to do with it, but it was still vital that he knew every field related to research before making a final decision, right? Which, ironically, will never we final.

The boy nodded in agreement, and then Bishop continued on. Yet, by this point, Treyen was almost sure he could find a career that will allow him to research about many different topics. Maybe. "Something I'd enjoy," he said to himself, but Bishop clearly heard him, "That sounds about right," he smiled, and if he could only enjoy ONE thing, then that would've settled everything, no? Still, Bishop's words had helped in confirming many things, and then her advice...it served him well. Since he was supposed to enjoy the present time as much as possible.

"Actually, Professor," he said, getting his robes free of wrinkles, "You've been of great help," or always, actually. But since he was looking for more insight about a certain topic that Bishop seemed to be more familiar with, then she'd help great deal with that. As far as Treyen figuring out things...well, that was another story.

He stood up, all of the sudden, "I may be returning throughout the school year," just a fair warning, "But I think this will be all for today," he said, with one nod.

The boy smiled towards Bowie, and then headed for the door. He walked out of the office rather quickly, no? Odd.

Something was telling Renée that even though she was making a highly valid argument against Selina's fears, it wasn't so much the visions she was fighting against but the Gryffindor's own psyche. As long as Selina believed that the visions controlled her, they would. But in the same respect, she wasn't entirely sure how to break through that state of mind. It was hard watching the girl close off even more as long as she talked. But, luckily for Selina, she wasn't going to give in. Even if she had to send an owl off to get more information, she was going to figure out how to help her. It had been a promise, and she wasn't about to break that. Perhaps it just needed something other than history and words, although that was her problem. She wasn't a Seer, even though she had her own abilities. They were decidedly different.

The redhead's reaction to her introduction of history to the conversation was interesting, though, and Renée contemplated it for a moment. "Your mind is only a cage if you see it that way. Whather or not a vision is static or moving, that doesn't make it any less of, or more than, an image. Something that you are witnessing, not necessarily taking part in." That seemed to be the problem. Selina was getting too involved in what she was seeing, and letting it trap her. Which just meant she needed to figure out how to truly help her realize she could break free of the cage she spoke of, as obviously that hadn't been discovered just yet.

However, it seemed her last, comforting, statement didn't quite have the reaction she'd expected, as she was surprised to see the girl backing to the door. It almost seemed like the moment was frozen, that the sounds she was so used to, from Anastasia and Bowie, were muffled. "You're not," she replied to the whispered question, standing up once again and reaching a hand out. But Selina was gone, and she sighed before a determined look came onto her face. She was going to figure this out.

The boy smiled towards Bowie, and then headed for the door. He walked out of the office rather quickly, no? Odd.
Once again, Renée had the urge to try and find out what was on Treyen's mind, as something seemed to have bothered him. Luckily, before she could slip with her control again, it seemed he'd heard her words and she regarded him with a mixture of amusement and surprise. If he was that shocked at bening told he was right, he seemed to have a bit of an issue with self-confidence. Either that or his other professors were a bit too inured in their own belief of knowing more, and she doubted either case was entirely true. She knew enough to know Treyen wasn't exactly one to be lacking in at least some confidence, and her fellow professors all seemed willing to give advice just as easily as herself. Advice that didn't always need to be a lesson of some kind. True statements deserved acknowledgment.

It did seem that her advice was getting through to him, as he echoed her words before actually responding to her. She sent him a nod, returning his smile, but didn't quite say much. There really wasn't anything she needed to say, not without undermining the relationship between professor and student that finally was in place. Besides, anything she'd say could come across as arrogant, and that only held a place in her if she was being teasing. That wasn't necessarily something that was appropriate for this situation. Not when she was asked for serious advice.

She smiled again as he fussed with his robes, more in amusement at how particular he was being as it seemed to echo stories of other Lockharts a bit, but the expression turned more subtle as he'd basically thanked her. "You're welcome," she said. He might not have actually said thank you, but it had been there. She might not be entirely certain of what was really behind the visit, but that was perfectly fine. Advice was always given if she was asked for it, and she knew he felt she at least was knowledgable about something in his quest, or he wouldn't have come. She definitely knew about research, after all, that was almost common knowledge for those who knew about her history.

She blinked as he stood up suddenly, however. The visit was over already? The surprise faded into another grin, though, at his words. "My door's always open." Metaphorically, at least. It was amusing that he felt the need to warn her, when she'd never been against students coming to her for advice in the first place. "Alright," she added with a slight nod as he excused himself. "I guess I'll see you some time later then." When maybe she could decipher a bit more of whatever was on his mind, that was instigating the questions.

Bowie bounced after him as he left, eyeing the door as it closed, but Renée stayed at her desk. The entire visit had been rather odd, but at least it seemed to have gotten somewhere.

Selina walked into the room with giggles still on her breath. When Kurumi said that it wasn't an attempt to break down the door Selina let out a soft laugh and muttered under her breath, "It's wasn't an attempt- it was successful."

She looked over at Kurumi who cooed over the phoenix and Selina smiled. The office was so familiar and familiar in these type of situations was good to Selina. It gave her a sense of reality to hold onto. Especially when she was slipping, which could happen at any moment, any time, any day.

Once all of the greetings were made to Anastasia Selina looked at Bishop and suddenly felt very ashamed. The way the two had left things during her previous meeting was not exactly something she was proud of. She was stressed though and it had all built up. Slowly, Selina was loosing her grasp on reality- she could feel it. But she had to remain strong. She would not lose it now, "Hello ma'am. I'm, um, sorry about the other day."

Renée was still rather amused when the three of them finally headed back into her office. Even though she hadn't heard most of the discussion outside, just the fact that it was centered around her poor, innocent door was quite hilarious. "Obviously the door is no worse for wear," she pointed out gently at Kurumi and Selina's responses to her earlier question, even though a smile was still on her face. It seemed Kurumi wasn't either, as the Gryffindor immediately zeroed in on Anastasia as susal and greeted the phoenix, who tilted her head regally to one side and then let out a little trill at the attention.

Renée's own attention had gone back to Selina, who looked like she'd lost most of the earlier amusement from the door situation, and she sent her a gentle smile as the redhead spoke. "It's okay. I understand everything's difficult," she replied. Especially for a twelve-year-old. She still had the thoughts of trying to contact people who might be able to advise her more as to how to help. "Why don't you make yourselves comfortable, and then when you're ready we can get into what happened during the lesson?" She wasn't going to force the issue, and that way Kurumi could continue admiring Anastasia if she liked for a while longer.

Kurumi had been so focused on the SUPER!AWESOME!BEAUTIFUL phoneix that she had almost missed the exchange between Selina and Professor Bishop. She very much wanted to touch the phoenix, or at least cuddle it, but she remembered that the Divination professor had mentioned that Anastasia had been through a lot. She hadn't heard the details, but Kurumi supposed the reaction would perhaps be one like Lady Rosamund - and Kurumi didn't fancy an attack even if it was done by a creature as magnificent as Anastasia. "Professor, can you speak phoenix?" Kurumi asked suddenly as she still kept her attention on Anastasia.

It was then that she heard the tail end of Selina's conversation and her cheeks flushed. Right, they weren't really here to talk about the language of a phoenix - although Kurumi wouldn't complain if Professor Bishop just so happened to have a book of phrases she could start memorizing.

Kurumi sheepishly took a seat and folding her hands in her lap. She glanced at Selina for a moment. The second year ought to be the one to bring the subject up, not her.

Selina could feel all eyes on her as the Professor motioned for everyone to take a seat. Slowly Selina moved across the room and sank into one of the chairs. Her shoulder slunk down with her and she fiddled with the hands in her lap. All of the laughter that had followed Bill the door had left like a gust of wind across as plain. And like the wind after a passing the whole room was silent.

She lifted her eyes and saw the two other people looking at her as if she was the one who had to speak. So Selina took a deep breath and tried to speak slowly and calmly, "Well, um, hello. I was wondering if maybe I could talk about my vision? If that would be okay with you two? You see I've only ever told four people. My friend Violet, Elektra and you two. I just don't think that they'd understand. I don't even understand. Why do these happen to me? I don't think I've ever done anything that terrible in my life. Why me?" She said softly. She hated pity parties... she just wanted to know- why her?

"Anyway... you don't want to hear that. You want to know about the vision." So Selina began, "I was in the Common Room and I was sitting as still as a statue, obviously in a vision. My eyes were glazed over and everything. It had to be a vision, I knew what they feel like and in that vision the future me was feeling it too.

"Then Kurumi came rushing down the stairs with a batch of cookies. They smelled lovely by the way... and she asked me to try one. I didn't answer her and she muttered something about the two of us being in a fight. That she wanted to just stop fighting. But I still didn't respond.

"Then the future Kurumi noticed something I didn't. I wasn't breathing- I wasn't alive. I was just trapped in a vision. No outer signs of life. Kurumi started to scream for me to wake up and for me not to be dead... but I didn't stir.

"That was when I was pulled out of the vision..." Selina prepared herself for the hardest part, "I looked twelve..."

Kurumi's jaw dropped as she listened to Selina recount the vision she had seen in class and all thoughts about learning how to speak Phoenix and her forbidden love with Bill the Door vanished from her thoughts.

"W-W-We had a fight?" she managed to squeak. Leave it to her to note the less important aspect of what Selina had just said. Well, clearly this vision was a little wonky since her and Selina never really fought over anything. She closed her mouth and then opened it again to thank her for the compliment about her vision cookies, but assumed that this probably was not a good time. She DID, however, wonder what recipe she had used in Selina's vision so she could avoid it.

Registering everything that Selina had said, or at least processing more of it, Kurumi turned back towards Professor Bishop with a look like that of a house elf realizing that they had mismatched their master's favorite pair of yellow woolly socks with blue plaid knit ones. Had...Had Selina just seen a vision of herself...

Kurumi couldn't even bring herself to say the word.

Kurumi swallowed and looked back at Selina for a moment before returning her gaze to Professor Bishop.

Still giving Selina the space to decide how and when to begin her discussion of the vision during her lesson, Renée glanced over at Kurumi as the other Gryffindor asked another question regarding Anastasia and smiled a little. "Unfortunately, no. I can't speak phoenix, at least not in that way. I can tell you she appreciated your attention, though," she replied, nodding slightly before turning to shuffle through things on her desk. Just to pass the time, distract herself a little from what she knew was coming. Sometimes her ability actually did prove to be a downside, as she in fact at least had a vague idea of what had shaken Selina so much.

She'd glanced up from the picture frame she'd shifted the slightest fraction of an inch as Selina had spoken, though, and nodded at her solemnly to show she could continue. "I don't know. It's not a punishment, but I can't say why exactly you were chosen to have this ability," she said softly, just feeling the need to say something. Even if it didn't quite comfort the redhead. She was coming for help, and there wasn't any way she wouldn't at least try to prove she was there for the girl, even if she didn't share the ability.

As Selina went into a retelling of what she'd seen, Renée sat against the edge of her desk, listening closely to the details as they spilled out and occasionally glancing at Kurumi as the story went on. It had to be hard on the girl, listening to what her friend had gone through. And that theory seemed accurate as it all finished, and the poor girl looked like she could be blown over with the slightest wind. At least she was already sitting down. Because most of what she had to say was for Selina. "You don't generally react while you're in the process of having a vision," she stated, not even bothering to make it sound like a question. She'd seen a few happen since she'd first been asked to help, after all. "I would suggest that it all seems to say that you need to buckle down and try to control how the visions affect you, but I'm not sure I'd make the leap to say the you in the vision weren't alive. Catatonic, perhaps, but I wouldn't go further than that." Selina was scared enough of her visions, she didn't need that to worry about either.

They definitely needed to figure something out, though, and she started thinking again. She didn't want to believe the vision was set, but even so, that didn't mean it could be ignored.

Kurumi swallowed as Professor Bishop spoke. Catatonic? Kurumi certainly didn't like the sound of that word and she was a little too nervous to dare and ask.

Shifting her gaze back towards Selina, Kurumi tried to offer her friend a brave smile. Kurumi couldn't relate entirely to what Selina was going through, but she did have to deal with her own emotions revolving around her inherited metamorphagus abilities from her father. Her thoughts suddenly went to the conversation she had had in the library with Treyen and her cheeks flushed a rosy pink for an instant.

No...now was not to the time to think about that golden smile of his.

"S-Selina," Kurumi said in a timid voice as she reached her hand closest to the red head and rested in on the girl's arm. "Y-You know I often think the same thing...about why me...why this curse..." She shot a quick glance towards Professor Bishop. She didn't believe that she had ever come outright and told her that she was, well, what she was. But Kurumi had the suspicion that the Divination professor already knew. "But...someone once told me..." a certain someone with a charming smile "...that perhaps the reason was because we can handle the ability. That we'll be able to control it eventually..."

She chewed on her bottom lip for a moment not sure what else to say, save for one thing.

"You know I'll be there every step of the way figuring things out along with you."

She rested her hand back on her lap and leaned back in her seat a bit as she thought more about the vision Selina had described. Clearly, Kurumi's reaction in the vision had been what had triggered Selina's shock. Well, not the only thing, but Kurumi was sure that the vision version of her screaming things like 'DON'T DIE!' did not help the situation.

"P-P-Perhaps it is a good thing you saw this vision," Kurumi said shyly wanting to choose her words carefully. "I-If you think about what Professor Bishop said, that you are non-responsive when you get in that state..." which Kurumi knew to be true from classes. She just had never seen it happen outside of the classroom before. "...then it is no wonder I freaked out and jumped to conclusions." Kurumi was always doing that. Prime example being the baby dragon in the potions storeroom.

Ahem.

She returned her attention to Professor Bishop now. "Professor, when...when I see Selina in that state...are...are there things I can check for, to make sure she is alright?" Kurumi wanted to help her second year lion sister anyway that she could. She knew Selina would do the same if their situations had been reversed.

Kurumi wanted to help her second year lion sister anyway that she could. She knew Selina would do the same if their situations had been reversed.
Selina kept her head in her ands as the two other women started to talk around her. Hers eyes were cast down and she could feel her face getting flushed and her eyes brimming with tears. But she would not cry. She would not allow it. If she could be strong for everyone else in her life than she could be strong for herself. She could be strong for her friends and her family and work through this. Well, it was a hope at least.

Then Bishop said a key word, Catatonic. Selina froze in her seat and looked up scared in Bishop's eyes. She fumbled trying to find the words to formulate her emotions but all she could musters was a few sounds. Catatonic? She was going to be one of those freak shows who just stood still with no movement for hours and had low brain function? She would prefer death than to live that meaningless existence.

And everyone seemed to be forgetting one major thing- she wasn't breathing. She had never not continued to breath during one of her visions. The only thing that changed was that she was still and her eyes glazed over. But no breathing? She didn't for one second Kurumi would make that up- even if it was a future Kurumi.

As she got lost in her own little world Bishop and Kurumi started to discuss a million and one ways to help fix whatever was happening to her. She finally spoke up, "I don't want to die and I do want to go into a catatonic shock. What should I do?"

While she'd been thinking, Renée found herself idly running a hand along the wooden box on her desk, as if she thought the cards that were still inside after the lesson would help her figure out how to help Selina. At least dealing with this had momentarily pushed her other questions she'd been dwelling on to the back of her mind, and she continued listening to the two Gryffindors as they'd reacted and spoken about the situation at hand. It was helpful to know that Kurumi was as concerned as she was about Selina, however. The more heads trying to come up with ideas the better, but she knew they had to be people Selina trusted.

She'd glanced at Kurumi as she spoke about her own abilities, gift or curse notwithstanding. Catching the young girl's own glance at her, she nodded slightly. "That's good advice," she said with a little smile, amused slightly by trying to guess who the girl was talking about. It was easier in some ways, but she wasn't about to really try very hard. Especially not when they were there to help Selina, not discuss other people.

Her attention had gone back to the redhead before she thought about answering the questions that were posed to her, though, wishing she could ease the panic that was building up. Unfortunately, it seemed that was turning out to be the difficult battle. "Well, we could look at this vision in one of two ways," she finally said, expression not showing anything other than sympathy and a bit of determination. To get her through this, to somehow find the right way of saying things, everything. "Either it's something that's actually going to happen, or just a warning. Telling us that we need to try harder, that everything we've tried so far isn't quite it." Neither one of those really sounded very positive, but there really wasn't a good way of sugar-coating it.

"We're not going to let you die or go into catatonic shock, Selina," she said, reaching out to try and comfort the girl before turning to Kurumi again. Perhaps answering the other questions would be good right about now. "It depends on what's actually going on. Checking for breathing, pulse, that's all good. Not panicking is another good idea, especially as I still won't believe any of this is going to actually happen." She wasn't going to let it, even if she didn't know a lot about how to train Seers. "We just need to figure out how to get your mind to believe that you can handle this, then maybe the rest will follow," she continued, paying attention to Selina again. It seemed the fear was the biggest hurdle. Once that was conquered, she hoped it woudl make everything else easier.

Selina kept her head down as her Professor spoke. Part of her felt warm inside because she had two people who were willing to help her through... whatever was going to happen to her, yet another part of her was scared. She didn't want to be some Ministry Puppet who just sprouted out the bits of the future all the time for their own personal use. She was a person.

Then with some odd force Selina looked up in Bishop's eyes and said, "Okay then. How do I start?"

Moving into the office, which pretty much looked exactly the same since the last time she was in here, Evelyn stood in the middle of the room, fidgeting with the sleeves of her school shirt slightly. Perhaps it was all those stairs she walked up that made her fidgety, but regardless that she was standing in one spot, she just had to move.

She was also determining if people would be able to hear them talk through these walls. Could ghosts come through here? Were they known to? What if they overheard?! WERE THERE PORTRAITS IN HERE!? Those things gossiped ALL the time.

...

Oh dear Merlin...
Closing her office door behind them as Evelyn passed her on the way into the room, Renée turned to see the Slytherin simply standing there in the middle of her rug. Glancing at her desk once, she took a couple steps toward the girl in concern before saying anything. She didn't need her ability to know that there was something on her mind, and a bit of paranoia as to if it was truly safe to say anything in here. Fidgeting told a lot.

"There's nobody here that will judge you for whatever's bothering you. To be honest, I doubt there's anyone even near enough to hear us," she assured Evelyn. Anastasia and Bowie certainly weren't about to say anything, and most of the portraits didn't travel this far up just to visit random still-life artwork and the occasional Tarot image. And besides, if Evelyn was going to come up to her office looking that worried, she wanted to help.

A silver wolf patronus entered the office and spoke in a young man's voice, "Professor Bishop, your assistance is needed immediately in the Gryffindor Common Room. A student by the name of Selina is in grave danger." And after the message was delivered the wolf began to fade.
