Apart from the long and tiring climb up here, the rooms in the Astronomy Tower offer an almost unparalleled view across the Hogwarts grounds. Professor Antares moved into this office three years ago when he first joined the teaching staff, and since his initial furnishing of the room, nothing much has changed.

The walls are lined with big, solid bookshelves, overflowing with large books with incomprehensible titles. Even the space between each rung of the shelves is in use - papers and scientific journals are stacked on top of each other, and they have been squeezed and shoved in on top of the books.

At the other end of the office, large windows open up on the fabled vista of the grounds - the lake, glittering when it's sunny and brooding in shadows when it's not, and the eerie Forbidden Forest in the background. Each window has been adorned with a set of grass-green curtains.

In front of the windows stands the professor's desk. It's big, made out of dark wood, and one wonders what kind of tree it might have once been. Its imposing respectability is slightly marred by a set of colourful wooden trays trays on one side of it. They were obviously meant to help fight the mess (and a piece of paper pinned to one of them, with a heart scrawled on it, shows that they hadn't been Risu's idea), but papers are spilling over on all sides regardless. There's a comfortable chair with a high backrest for the professor to sit, with a much simpler - and probably less comfortable - chair in front of the desk for a student.

On the other side of the desk, in a miraculously clutter-free corner, one can see a pair of photographs in polished silver frames, each showing a smiling couple with their arms wrapped around each other.

One is of Risu's parents; the inscription on the frame reads Karin and Per Laelaps-Antares, Luleå, Sweden.
The other shows Risu himself and a witch with blond hair (recognisable as the proprietress of Florean Fortescue's) in front of a spectacular glacier.

Bleu nervously walked up to the door. She had never really gone to a Professors office before just to meet them and ask them questions about the term, but she heard a lot of people did. So she figured that if she was going to start off the new term as a new Bleu, who already found a friend at the feast, that she would talk to a professor.

Professor Antares was her first choice. She loved Astronomy. Of course she wasnt the top student, but she did her best. Plus, Professor Antares was a total babe; the shopkeeper at Florean's was a lucky woman. (

)

Bleu slowly made her way towards the office door. She took a deep breath and knocked confidently three times, and waited for a response from within.

Now here was a subject Maddox could get behind. Astronomy. She could lay out and look at the stars for the rest of her life and die a happy lass. She was glad that the students started to thin out after she got above the 5th floor. They were really starting to work on her nerves.

Maddox reached the top of the stairs and was surprised that someone else was already there. "Great evening for stargazing eh?" she asked the girl.

This high up in the Tower, the breeze wafting through the open window already had a tinge of autumn chill to it even though it was still, technically, late summer, but with the tea to warm him up, Risu didn't mind. He had spent many much colder nights at the Array, either wrapped up in blankets in front of a computer or, if the chronically underfunded operation had blown a fuse in one of the radio telescopes, outside, cursing with blue and shivering hands that would not hold a screwdriver properly.

When the knock on the door came, it took him a few seconds to be roused from whatever it was he had been thinking about. He had to clear his throat before being able to speak. "Come in, please. Both of you," he added as he heard a low voice; whoever it was, they apparently had brought someone along.

Maddox heard a voice calling them forward and the other girl seemed to be trying to figure out if she was indeed firing on all cylinders, and Maddox guessed she wasn't, but Maddox opened up the door. "Good evening." she smiled. Her eyes got big as the sight outside of the window caught her attention. "What do you have pay for a view like that?" she asked pointing toward the window.

She walked into his office looking around and taking in everything. The mundaness and boring aspect of it made her eyes cross and her head swim. How could someone take something as wonderful as stargazing and turn it into a but of calculations in a book. She shook her head to clear out all the cobwebs and she pulled her telescope out of her David Bowie messenger bag. "The word in the corridors is a lass needs a piece of paper to get to the Astronomy Tower." she sat down in the chair and almost winced at how uncomfortable it was.

Risu turned around when the door opened, putting his cup of tea down on the edge of the desk (there was a corner free of stuff just big enough to fit the mug; he secretly hoped this was by design and not accident) and pinching the bridge of his nose. He felt fairly tired.

The girl walked in with a very self-confident air. Risu, uncharacteristically, felt a hint of annoyance at her obvious displeasure of how his office was furnished. It was nothing to write home about, that much was certain, but he could practically see her grabbing a random box and tossing it out of the open window.

"Good evening," he said, a little bemused. "The view comes with joints pain, if you must know," he added with a little smile - now, he was sure, she was scoffing at his age. Behind the girl, the second visitor entered the office slowly. "Good evening to you too," Risu said. "Er, hold on..." He spent a good fifteen seconds looking for his wand on his desk. With a vague wave, he conjured up a second wooden chair for the other student to sit. "Have a seat."

He dropped the wand carelessly on his desk where it immediately rolled out of sight again under some papers. "Well!" he said brusquely. "Word on the corridor is, I'm not surprised to tell you, inaccurate. You will need a permission slip from me if you plan on using the Observatory after hours." He shrugged. "Whatever they might be for you, Miss..?"

She looked at the other girl just following behind her not saying anything. That was weird, but if she was going to snooze, she was going to loose. Maddox had business and she was getting down to it. She could stand there and look around till Maddox was done.

Maddox had to hold back her giggle. The joint pain was probably because the man was getting old, but for once she held her tongue on that nugget of brillance. She gave him a funny look when he got snippy with her. "Have you missed your nap time?" she asked him curiously. She hadn't said anything to offend him. What was with the people around here? He couldn't be mad at her she hadn't done anything wrong so far. Well as far as she knew. "Maddox Jones at your service captain." she said before she could catch herself, "Err.....teacher, professor guy." she said quickly. Alighty then, "Um yeah I would like to use the observatory after hours. I like to star gaze and make star charts." she explained.

She took the piece of paper and clipped it to the one of the barretts in her hair, "So I will know where it is," the slip hung down over her ear and actually looked like it was a intentional piece of her outfit.

Maddox stood up, "Much obliged." she nodded to the man.

Bleu shyly smiled and sat down in the chair, wating and listening to the conversation going on between the professor and The Slytherin girl. She said her name was Maddox. Bleu had always that thought was a boys name, but apparently it could be for girls as well.

Listening to the conversation that was being had, she felt kind of awkward. Maddox seemed slighly, but unintentionally, rude. But she was a slytherin so what should she really expect.

She waited patiently for her turn, not saying a word until the other girl left.

Melina waited outside Professor Antares' office; she could hear a few different voices from the other side of the door. She bounced a little in her seat while she waited (a nervous or excited habit of hers- and in this case she was feeling both) for whoever it was to come out and the Professor to call her in.

She was sooooooo ready to take this class!!

Risu nodded. "Milk does, I agree, Miss Jones. Unfortunately, in my wild and wondrous days as a researcher, far away from civilisation you might say, we once received a delivery of food items, including milk, that hadn't been cooled properly during the trip. An entire research facility full of sick people, the most common symptom being diarrhoea..." He grimaced. "Surely I don't need to paint a picture, Miss Jones. I'd fast run out of certain colours at any rate."

He tapped the desk in a decisive sort of way as the girl got up. "You're very welcome. Happy stargazing, and I hope to see you in my classes. Let me know if you come across anything interesting."

With the first student dealt with to her apparent satisfaction, Risu turned to the second girl. With a curt wave of his arm, he invited her to vacate her chair and sit down next to the desk, opposite of Risu. "Please, have, er, another seat, then," he said with his customary slight smile. "Do tell, what can I do for you?"

His office was barely empty again when he saw, through the open door, that another student had arrived and was apparently waiting for him. Risu was certainly in high demand this evening. "Come in, please," he called out loudly, waving the girl into his office.

Melina entered the room with great enthusiasm. She hoped it was alright to sit in the chair obviously meant for students. She plopped herself down.

Wow, guess he doesn't want people in his office too long, if the chair has anything to do with it, she thought, squirming a bit to find a comfortable spot.

"Thank you, professor, for seeing me. My name is Melina. Melina Morninglory, 1st-year," she said proudly. "You see, this is going to be my favorite class! My father and I stargazed all the time, and he taught me all the constellations and the planets that can be seen with the naked eye. I got a brand-new telescope for class," she gushed, with all the excitement of tiny little firstie.

"May I ask you a question? Are we allowed to go up to the Astronomy tower before our curfew, just to sit and look at the stars? Provided there's no class going on," she added quickly. "And can I do anything for extra credit?"

She couldn't wait to feel closer to her father; she knew they'd be looking up at the same sky.

Waving his hand lazily to shut the office door, Risu returned to sit down behind his desk. "Good evening, then, Melina Morninglory," he said, his usual genuine (but now, as the evening was wearing on, increasingly tired) smile making another appearance. "And I certainly hope my classes can live up to your enthusiasm and expectations," he added.

"I hope your new telescope didn't stretch your budget unduly. I know how much some of the books for Hogwarts can be, especially if have just become a student..." He gave her a questioning look. The girl couldn't be more than a second-year. "We have slightly older but perfectly functioning telescopes here," he continued with a small smile. "I service them myself. The large one in the Observatory is, obviously, more for my personal use, but we may employ it in class if an opportunity arises."

With a sigh, he settled a little more comfortable into his seat. "To answer your questions, Miss Morninglory. Yes, you are certainly permitted to visit the Observatory before curfew. Don't be surprised to find me there too. It's a very relaxing place, the Observatory. If you wish to go to there later than that, however, you will need a permission slip from me. They are, I can tell you, a little more difficult to obtain for younger students such as yourself, but if you have a specific project in mind, something can be arranged, I am sure.

"As far as extra credit goes... Um." He glanced around. "I could certainly use someone to tidy up my office, as well as the Observatory, but I would be very uncomfortable asking a student to do that, even if it were for extra credit." He smiled weakly. "So unless you have an idea, I think I will have to decline. No extra credit opportunities at this time. Of course, you will have the chance of snagging a respectable amount of points in my classes!"

"Erm... nicest and coolest?" Risu repeated, more than a little bemused. "Are you sure you didn't get lost on your way to... Divination or something? That's in another part of the Tower.

He looked at her questioningly. Was that really what students thought of him? That was rather... flattering, in a surprising, probably-not-true kind of way. Sure, he rarely, if ever, gave out punishments, and while his classes were (in)famous for their rather high level of difficulty, not too many people, as far as he knew anyway, complained about him personally. So there was that...

And why was he overthinking this so much? He really needed some sleep. Hopefully this was the last student for the evening. There was a lot of overthinking going on in Risu's creaking brain...

"Here you are indeed," he went on, still slightly lost in thought. "Er... your face does seem kind of familiar, but I don't think I have seen you in my classes before. Not a lot of students choose Astronomy, of course, so I try to make the effort of remembering those who do." A small grin apparead on his tired face. "I guess telling me your name is part of your introduction...?"

He looked at her questioningly. Was that really what students thought of him? That was rather... flattering, in a surprising, probably-not-true kind of way. Sure, he rarely, if ever, gave out punishments, and while his classes were (in)famous for their rather high level of difficulty, not too many people, as far as he knew anyway, complained about him personally. Bleu grinned and thought about that for a moment.... "Um....nope. I wanted to come to Professor Antares...I do believe I am in the right place." She smiled. He must have never been complimented like this before. But it was completely true to her, so it had to be for others as well.

Nodding to his question she replied, "Willow Bleu Rawley, though I go by Bleu. I am usually in the back of class scribbling down notes as fast as I possibly can. I generally don't answer in class mostly because...I'm just more of a listener and I'm not really comfortable speaking out in class. But I'm going to try my best this term." She smiled.

"Participation on my students' part is very much appreciated," Risu murmured as if to himself. There was a slight awkward pause.

Then he roused himself. And managed a slight smile. "I do apologise, Miss Rawley," he said, "it's been a very long day. I'm not sure the students appreciate how comfortable - and in style - they are getting here. The Hogwarts Express, the carriages..."

He stretched, his joints crackling loudly, and got to his feet to wander over to the window. Night had truly fallen now, and apart from a few small patches of light - the huts of the Groundskeeper and Care of Magical Creatures professor, the Moon reflected on the surface of the Lake - it was dark outside.

"I can't speak to your classmates, of course," he said, turning around, "but I'm not in the habit of presenting my students in a bad light in class, even if what they have said is not quite correct. Generally I can find something to pick up on." He smiled at the student again. "I guess a throwaway comment from me isn't going to help much, but if it can coax you out of your shell in my class or in the lessons of my esteemed colleagues, then all the better."

She walked over to the door to let the other students have their chance with Professor Poop, hey that almost rhymed she giggled at her inside joke. "Sure will chief." she nodded and then she was gone.
