The Magical Creatures Nursery has been part of the Hogwarts grounds for several years now, sitting only a couple of yards away from Professor Lachlan MacFusty's hut. Inside the large stone building, moss covers most of the surface of the wooden floor, and a faint scent of peppermint and cinnamon fills the air.

Crates line up the walls, organized by size, and the type of creature they house; the smaller crates, those that contain small creatures such as pigmy puffs, are near the entrance of the building, while the larger crates, the homes of jarveys and bigger creatures of the like, are located close to the back of the room. Tear-shaped nests hover above your head; these are inhabited by young, shy augureys, and usually only grace anyone with their presences when lured out of their nests with food.

By the door, two tall shelves are laden with all the necessary supplies to take proper care of the young Magical Creatures, such as dragonhide gloves, goggles, brushes, and others; there's even an assortment of toys that the baby crups and niffles may enjoy playing with. Food is kept in plastic containers, and labels are stamped outside of them, indicating to what creatures they are meant for.

Please treat the young creatures with the same respect and care you treat your elders. And unless Professor MacFusty has given you his explicit permission, you are not allowed to take any of these creatures out of the Nursery. If you fail to follow these rules, you should be ready to deal with the severe consequences.

If your pet has gotten too big for you to keep it inside your dormitory and find yourself looking for a better housing for them, or if you've got any doubts or questions, don't hesitate to head over to Professor MacFusty's hut; he'll be happy to help you.

OOC: Seriously, if you've got any questions about this thread, don't hesitate to drop me a PM. I'll be more than glad to assist you. Crups, knarls and kneazles may bite, but I don't.

With a small brown paper bag in one hand, Kurumi slowly opened the door to the nursery and immediately turned her gaze skyward. Yep, the rumors were true then.

Practically squealing with delight, but knowing that in doing so would only startle the shy creatures more, she dumped the contents of the bag on the floor and took a few steps back before plopping herself down on the ground to wait. An assortment of dead beetles and flies lay in a pile on the ground just waiting for those elusive augureys to come down and have a nibble.

Salander was walking about the grounds, look for a particular tool and feeds shed that was his secret sanctuary last term. It was only then that he remembered that there was a new COMC Professor now and that with the departure of HottieSaylen, it seemed that the shed has vanished too.

Sadface. On both counts

The Slytherin lad managed to find his way to this new structure he hasnt seen before, and after a few steps he realized what it was...

... a building full of animals that can rip him apart. Gulp.

Hopefully since none of them looked to be large enough to rip him apart ~~yet~~ he would actually come out of this unscathed.

He finds someone sitting at the middle of the floor, and after a while realized who it was. "Hey there Kurumi!" he greeted the young Gryff as he crouched down beside her. His eyes fell on the pile infront of her "You need a broom to sweep away that dir-- hey waitaminute..... those are dead bugs!" he took out his wand, attempting to make the annoying things vanish.

Kurumi, who had her violet gazed locked on the tear-shaped nests up in the rafters, hadn't noticed Salander enter the nursery and was rather startled when she heard voice boom from the entryway.

While very happy to see him - honestly, there were very few times when she wasn't...minus the weeks following the whole kitchen incident - but he was not helping her quest to lure the greenish black birds down for a treat.

"SHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Kurumi squeaked pressing her index finger to her lips before pointing upwards.

Her eyes then widened when he took out his wand and she nearly flung herself over the pile of dead insects. If he cast his spell in that moment, did it mean she would be banished instead? Where did banished things go? It sounded rather intriguing actually.

"I am trying to get the baby augureys to come down," she explained pouting her bottom lip a bit.

And he was jussst about to cast evanesco when his eyes shifted quickly to Kurumi--who looked like she was about to make a swan dive into that bug pile. "Wha???" he started, then tilted his head up just as the brunette pointed. Only then did he realized that there was something above his head that can rip him apart too without him having realized it! No escape.

"A baby wha??" the Slytehrin lad repeated, subconsciously grabbing the fold of his robes and flicking it upward, protecting his neck. He feels like his just walked into a buffet and he was the main course.

"Augerey," she repeated as she waddled over towards the pile of dead bugs while still in crouching position. Using her bare hands, she began to re-pile the bugs that had been scattered a bit when Salander had opened the door. She looked up at Salander and noticed the puzzled expression on his face. Why was his collar up? Kurumi cocked her head to the side. Perhaps he was cold and that was a way of keeping himself warmer? Kurumi tried not to think too much on it, there were bugs to be taken care of and baby augerey to woo.

"They are also known as the Irish Phoenix. They resemble a vulture, only with greenish black feathers and a sharp beak," she explained as she picked up an especially large beetle and rested it on top of the pile. She swore she heard some sort of a cracking noise coming from the rafters. When she looked up, however, it didn't seem like there was any change. "They eat insects, fairies and flies and are very shy creatures. They sort of have a bad reputation, like dragons. Poor misunderstood creatures really. It was long believed that the mournful cry of the Augurey foretold death, and wizards would go to great lengths to avoid Augurey nests. However, research determined that the Augurey merely sings when it is about to rain."

Relaxing his grip from the collar of his robes, the Slytherin lad started to breathe a sigh of relief when the young Gryffindor mentioned something about a phoenix. "Guess thats not so bad--" wait, did she just say vultures? Hand goes back to his collar and eyes started to dart for the door. He wanted to just pick up Kurumi and run!

Then she started to explain a bit more about these creatures-- shy, misunderstood, harbinger of death?... Salander glanced worriedly up the nests above his head, for while staying rooted at the spot. His feet wanted to make a bolt of the door but his heart tells him to stay. Well darnit if Kurumi's gonna be hanging around here with a bunch of death birds he couldnt bear to just leave her behind, no matter how harmless she said they were.

"Huh... well, lets keep our distance from their food now, wouldnt that be a nice thing to do, make them a little less self-conscious?..." not to mention they wouldnt be confused between having to choose between live meat and dead bugs.

He looked around for a moment and grabbed a couple of large crates, motioning to Kurumi where they could hide behind.

Kurumi watched Salander continue to fuss with the collar of his robes. Was he hot? Kurumi found the nursery to be rather cool, perhaps even cold. But, that was to be expected since it was December after all and there was a thin layer of snow covering the grounds. "Here, use this," she smiled handing him her Gryffindor scarf. He ought to wear it around his neck instead of trying to cover himself more with his robes.

Kurumi then nodded and smiled at Salander. "That is very considerate of you," she chirped as she watched him drag a few stray crates over. Was he...hiding behind them? Kurumi supposed that Salander wanted to play a game of hide-and-seek with the baby augereys? Kurumi knew that human babies often enjoyed playing that game and it always made them smile. However, Kurumi didn't want to startle the poor green birdies, so she made sure that part of her leg was still visible.

Crouching down, Kurumi looked back at Salander. "So...I take it you were not here to play with baby augereys," she laughed noticing his obvious glances up at the rafters. Maybe he was here to play with some cruppies?

Salander's head kept shifting between the rafters and the ground where Kurumi sat. Unconsciously, he reached out and took her offered scarf, threw it over his head and tucked the ends down into his collar. Hmm... lets hope Kurumi's never heard of Granny Goose.

Crouching behind the crates with only the top part of his scarfed head visible, Salander peeked worriedly at the bug pile then back up at the nests. "Oh yes very exciting Kurumi..." he mumbled, patting her shoulder nervously. Kid was getting crazier by the day, choosing a pastime to hang around with vultures. Lexi's daredevil streak seems to be rubbing off on her already.

Wait the little Gryff asked a question too didnt she? "Huh?.... oh no. Uh.... I dont play with vultures-- I mean the augereys. Actually I was looking for the old feeds and tool shed from last term." He looked nervously around and drops his voice to a whisper "Truthfully hanging around a building full of animals that can eat you and rip you limb from limb isnt the best way to go about things if you plan to live to 100 y'know?"

Kurumi simply stared at Salander when he threw his scarf over his head. After blinking a few times, Kurumi supposed that he had made the proper move in keeping one as warm as possible. Her mother was always telling her to wear a hat during the cold winters back home because most of your body heat escapes from your head. He really ought to have brought a hat with him.

Then her eyes went bugging out of her head at his next comment. Wait...there were flesh eating animals in here?! In the nursery? Kurumi squeaked rather loudly and clung to his arm. "E-E-E-Eat us....t-t-tear us limb f-f-f-from limb?" She certainly didn't like the sound of that. Why would Professor MacFusty keep such creatures here? He didn't seem demented like Professor Vindictus was with Herbology. "I DON'T WANT TO GET EATEN BY A BASILISK!" she shrieked as she tightened her already close to death grip on Salander's arm. Well, that comment wasn't really reserved solely for basilisks. She didn't fancy being eaten by anything.

Salander's flailing made her return into panic mode once more as she forgot all about the gentleness of the green NON-vulture birds. "KYAAA!" Kurumi was taken by surprise when Salander grabbed her like a rag doll and leaped up on a crate. He DID realize that he was bringing them closer to those supposed bird of prey he was worrying over earlier, right? Not that there was anything to worry about to begin with. "Y-Y-You can speak Parselmouth...right? Y-Y-You are in Slytherin after all..."

Cue innocence...

"Maybe... maybe you're right. Vult-- I mean augereys, cant be so bad right? They eat bugs, how dangerous could the possibly be?" he grinned nervously as he sat down on the crate, now just keeping his eyes on the floor warily.

Wait a what? "Parselmouth?" he repeated dumbstruck at the little Gryffie. That sounded familiar... and important. Oh! "You mean someone that speaks to snakes? No... no I cant do that. Can I do that, I mean can I learn to speak to snakes?"

Maybe he can tell them to get the heck away from them. Or go after some annoying people. Something like that.

I suppose it was a little silly of me to assume you could, just because you are in Slytherin." She paused and looked up at him for a moment. "Just like it is silly to assume that all vulture-looking creatures are evil." She added a little wink.

"You said they were shy, what if they wont eat because we're watching them?"

"Are you implying that you have never had a hamburger before?" Kurumi asked batting her eyelashes at the older Slytherin. "Those are way larger than us after all." Then there were those tribes she had read about somewhere that killed dragons and turned them into dragon jerky.

Kurumi giggled when she heard Salander chuckle. "I guess not," she replied looking up at the rafters herself. "Maybe if we sit over there by the crup toys and dragonhide gloves and chat they will come out?" It was on the other side of the nursery from the pile of dead bugs after all.

Kurumi smiled and followed Salander over to the crates, cocking her head to the side again as he threw on a pair of dragon hide gloves. Aurora walked into the nursery, gazing around at the tiny animals, Salvatore clinging to the neck of her robes and tasting the air. She looked above her head, scanning for any sort of Jobberknoll nest but all she could see were Augrys. She gathered a few fallen Augry feathers from the floor, they weren't Jobberknoll feathers but they could still be used in a potion. She put them into a small box that she had brought out for this very reason and placed it into the pocket of her robes.

Enough was enough. Ariadne was tired of looking for plants, so she went to the Magical Creatures Nursery for a change, looking for Joberknolls. And there they were, in a secluded nest. Almost when the girl had started to lose hope. But how could she get some feathers? Surely, she wouldn't dare pluck them off the poor animals. Before she got the chance to devise a plan, however, the creatures moved around and about their nest, and some feathers fell to the ground. Without hesitation, Ariadne bent down to pick them and dropped them gently in her backpack. Now she was done! All that was left to do was to bring the ingredients to the storeroom.

Janice went in the nursery to look for some Joberknoll feathers, and hopefully some other unexpected 'wild' things. The only problem was that she had no idea how Joberknolls looked like. Just then, a Gryffindor picked up feathers from the ground, with some things moving near her. Without hesitating, Janice took some of the feathers with her.

In the nursery where there are a lot of animals, there has to be some cockroaches, right? Janice thought. It's not clean..
Searching the Nursery for 10 minutes, she found a colony of cockroaches on one corner. Casting a LOT of 'stupefy'-s, she then levitated them to a jar, separated from the daisy roots, beetle, caterpillar; rat; feathers; and the peppermints.

Penny had given up waiting for MacFusty to open his door for her.... she made her way to the magical care nursery to see if there was any potion ingredients there that she could use...

Walking around the nursery , Penny paused to look at the animals held there.. some of them were indeed beautiful but some were actually not pretty (ugly even)...

She walked around the interior wall, hoping to find a nest of beetles.... after five minutes, she saw one.... kneeling down, she watched them scuttle around..

Taking a glass jar out of her backpack, she began to lift them into the jar... wondering if thirty would be enough, she gathered another ten --- "There", she thought..."Forty should be plenty".. feeling pleased that she had collected all five ingredients..

1. Leeches
2. Owl eagle feathers
3. Nettles
4. Valerian Roots
5. Beetles

Putting the jar safely into the bag, she made her way up to the potions storeroom with her ingredients...

Gwen wanted to start collecting ingredients for the Potions homework. She tried remembering some of them that where listed on the board. However, she had no idea where to find those, so, after a few minutes of thinking, she decided to start with the thing she said. The Jobberknoll feathers! Now, the only place where I can find those is the Magical Creatures Nursery, the girl told herself.

She headed up there, entered the Nursery and looked around hoping to see that bird somewhere. When she spotted the bird, she went straight towards it, took some feathers from its nest, and placed them in a small jar.

Ok…only 4 more to go.

He settled onto the crate, still keeping his feet OFF the ground "Well, I wanna know your secret Kurumi..." he started as he cast a side glance at the young Gryff. Yes little one, you have secrets he could tell "... like, how can you be so awesome with so many... animals?" Really he wants to know the secret to being a friend to so many... animals.

Kurumi's eyes widened. What secret was Salander talking about? Not that Kurumi kept THAT many secrets from her friends, but there were SOME things that she didn't feel like talking about. Namely involving a certain Badger and some details she had found out about her family.

Panic was written all over her face until Salander spoke up once more. Oh, he was just talking about animals. Phew. Close call.

"I'm....not sure," she giggled as she rocked back on the crate a bit. "Growing up, I really only had animal friends, so that might have something to do with it. Animals don't judge nearly as harshly as people do." She paused for a moment to look up at the rafters for any hint of the the timid creatures making their presence known. "I guess I just understand their feeling of seclusion and vulnerability."

She wasn't so sure that that was much of a secret, or the sort of answer he was looking for, but it was the best she had.
