Default Herbology Final

Herbology Final

OOC: This Final is worth a total amount of 50 points (20 Theoretical, 30 for the Practical). Please read through carefully and follow all OOC instructions. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. This Final will be open until Sunday 31st July 3PM GMT. This includes both theoretical and practical portions of the Final. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please ONLY post ONCE in this thread.

ONE POST ONLY... No Idle Chatter.

Your post should contain:
  • If you want- a brief statement on your character sitting the theoretical component.
  • The Full RP of the practical acitvity- and leaving.

It's that time of year again, when all that hard work and study is put into practice. Have you done enough to get through this years’ examination?

There’s a light hue outside as the sun filters through the clouds, casting a warm glow across the grounds. The atmosphere was tense and sort of nervous, perhaps because it was time for Finals.

The Herbology Final is taking place in greenhouse one, as you enter the first thing you find is that the front portion of the greenhouse had been set up like a classroom. Individual desks were set up to form neat rows, each with a scroll of parchment, the question sheet and a quill, bewitched with an anti-cheating spell. Yes that’s right. It was the theoretical portion of the Exam.

Professor Bentley is seated at her own desk at the entrance of the greenhouse, the blackboard she regularly uses contains instructions you must read before proceeding to a desk.

Please answer the Theory component on the parchment provided then hand it in to myself (Professor Bentley) before going on with the practical portion.

For the practical portion you will need to go to the back of the greenhouse, here you will find small workstations with everything you will require and further instructions.

Please remember your dragon hide gloves, if for some reason you have forgotten or misplaced them, you may borrow a pair from the stores cupboard.

Good luck and may all your hard work pay off.
On each desk is the Question sheet you are required to answer.

SPOILER!!: Question Sheet

Herbology Final
Theoretical

1. Identify the correct sub-category for the following aquatic plants:
a) Brain Coral
b) Victoria Amazonica
c) Pounce Stink

2. What are the consequence of the following conditions, and which is the easiest to reverse and why?
a) Overwatering
b) Under-watering

3. Write a short essay discussing the importance of skilfully being able to identify various forms of vegetation. (2 paragraphs: quality over quantity)

OOC: You may post your character writing the theoretical portion of the exam and presenting it to Professor Bentley- BUT do NOT post your answers in this thread. The theoretical portion is submitted via PM to me- Please entitle it Herbology Final Theoretical, and follow the usual Homework Submission rules. Thank you. (As PART of your ONE post)

After you have submitted the theoretical portion of the exam you then proceed to complete the practical portion. Once you walk to the back of the greenhouse you find a number of work stations, each contains: a Venomous Tentacular seedling in a small pot, there is a medium pot, a variety of dung/fertilizer (dragon, moon calf, abraxan and hippogriff), watering can (if needed), and an instruction card, along with a blank tag and some string.

SPOILER!!: Instruction Card

Herbology Final
Practical

Task:
Your task is to re-pot your Venomous Tentacular seedling and administer the appropriate care.

Be mindful of:
The re-potting procedure, how much dung, how much dirt, how much water.

Also consider which dung/fertilizer you think is most appropriate for this task and think about why that is. (How did you come to that conclusion?)

Consider what other maintenance care you will provide to the plants appearance- trimming etc.

Once you have finished please write your name, house and year on a tag and tie it around the pot, thank you. When you have finished you are free to leave.

OOC: Please be aware of the characteristics of the Venomous Tentacular, also be aware that it is only a seedling and will therefore not fatally harm you in any way shape or form. Though it will probably still attempt to nibble at you and wrap its small vines around you. If for some reason your character does manage to get him/herself fatally injured/killed (HIGHLY unlikely) then you will need to deal with the consequences- whatever they may be.

Be aware that marking these will get repetitive at some point, so the more creative and detailed you are in the task the more points you are likely to gain. This is being marked purely on creativity, effort and participation- as well as of course some knowledge of the processes involved.

Nessie walked into class nervously. She saw that the Professor was sitting by the desk. She would have greeted the Professor, but Ness wasn’t too sure if she was allowed to talk at all. It was her herbology final and Nessie had been studying the whole night she was pretty nervous. Taking a seat at the classroom part of the greenhouse. She then looked at the board, and got working away with her theory. It wasn’t such a bad final. Nessie thought she’d do okay.

Now it was onto practical. Nessie walked over to where the working stations were for the practical. She then looked at her instruction and started to work. They had to repot a Venomous Tentacular seeds. Ness put on her gloves and picked up a small pot with a seedling inside it. The seed was rattling and Nessie could hear it quite clear.

Nessie carefully took of the dead twigs and trimmed the leaves back using the trimming charm. She remembered learning that, that always came first. It was a bit of a tricky thing to do, because the Tetacular kept on trying to get a nibble on her. Nessie then walked over to her medium sized pot. She dug out some of the soil from the bigger pot and put it aside for later.

As Nessie started getting the plant ready to be taken out, she kept an eye on the seedling incase it felt like having fun. She then loosened the soil at the edges at the bottom of the pot, looking up as much as she could to check on the Tentacular. Then looking at all the different fertilizers she had, she picked up a little Hippogriff dung and sprinkled some over the soil. She chose the Hippogriff dung because she remembered that it was the most expensive, so it must have worked best. She then moistened the soil with a small shower of water. She knew better not to add a lot of water.

Once the plant was ready to be taken out, Nessie slowly started picking it up. Then when it was completely out, including the roots, she brushed off the access soil off from the roots and anything else that needed to be removed. She then put the plant in the hole she had dug in the bigger pot. As soon as the plant was in the bigger pot, it decided it wanted to have some fun and it wrapped its small vines around her. Trying not to panic, Nessie not knowing what to do took the vines and tried to pull them off. It wasn’t exactly working. Her only option was probably to chop the vines of the plant, so she could pull them off. Nessie took out her wand and then quietly she whispered “Diffindo!” she aimed her wand at the vines and almost immiediately the vines got cut apart and the vines around her arm fell off.

Then calming down a little she picked up the soil, which she had dug out and she started filling the pot again. She then patted the soil gently making sure it was all perfect. After Nessie had finished with the soil she watered the plant carefully making sure not to over water it. The plant didn’t seem to be so interested in biting her anymore. It was probably afraid she would hurt it again. Nessie then took some more Hippogriff dung and sprinkled a little around the plant. She then took the blank tag and wrote her name, house and year on it, she then took the string and tied it around the plant. Now finished Nessie walked out the class, hoping she did well.

Thea tapped her quill on the table, reading and re-reading the questions on the parchment. Hom hom hom. She wasn't good with sub-categories! Finishing her essay, the first year Gryffie put down her quill trying not to look at her first two questions. Possibly not the best answers..

Now for the practical. Standing up, she donned her dragon hide gloves. Bring it! Approaching the back of the Greenhouse, she selected her seed, pot ,dung and everything else she would need. Rolling her eyes, Thea pushed her tool aside. She would just use her hands to dig the hole.

Popping some soil into her pot, Thea used her hands to make a seedling sized hole in the soil. Then turning to her seed, she grasped her wand as she shed away some of the dead leaves and other stuff that had been hanging off of it. Smiling as the plant tried to attack her, she popped it into the hole. Patting the soil around the seed, she loosened it around the plant so she wouldn' strangle the roots.

Plunging her hand into a bag, Thea grabbed a bit of Hippogriff dung. This was the best, she remembered. Wrinkling her nose slightly she scattered the dung around the seed. It snapped happily as she did so. Rubbing her gloved hands together, Thea grinned down at her little plant. It seemed to like her okay..
Grabbing her usual watering can, the one with the little elephants on it, Thea-Aurora began to moisten the soil. Remembering not to water it to much, Thea stopped. She didn't want her baby plant to drown!

Placing all of her things back from where she got them, the first year grabbed her quill. Kneeling by her plant, Thea quickly wrote out her tag.

William felt happy that he had completed the theoretical portion of the Herbology exam, but now he had to deal with the practical portion. This was probably going to be the hardest part of all, because there was no telling exactly what kind of plant he was going to have to deal with. It wasn't going to be some gerbera daisy or anything like that, that much was for sure.

William wasn't surprised to see that the plant he would have to repot was a Venomous Tenacular. That was certainly one of the more dangerous plants so he was going to have to be especially careful in handling it.

William put his dragon hide gloves on and picked up the small pot which contained the seedling. He thought the best thing would be not to show any fear, that worked around dogs and other creatures and might work around plants as well. Who could say that a plant didn't have a brain? "You have a brain, don't you?" William whispered to the little plant. It was still plant but already beginning to grow, and William could see that there was very little room in that plant for the Venomous Tenacular to grow, the roots would have no room at all. "I'll take care of you," he assured the plant.

William began to remove the dead leaves, twigs and other dead growth from the plant. Already the thing was trying to snip and nip at him. "I'm not the enemy," William said. "I'm trying to give you a new home here." All he could do was hope the plant understood, but he somehow doubted it.

William began to work on the larger pot, the one he was going to replant the Tenacular into. He covered the bottom third of the pot with dirt and then mixed in some mooncalf dung, which he had learned made an excellent fertilizer for all types of plants both mundane and magical. He would have to moisten the soil before putting the plant into it which he did carefully, not wanting to put in too much. Too much water was bad for any plant including this one, as William had learned in class and from personal experience. He had the death of a Christmas cactus on his conscience due to overwatering diligence and wouldn't make that same mistake again.

William approached the plant cautiously, because he was going to have to pick it up out of the old pot now and replant it into the new pot. "Time for you to move into your new home," he murmured, carefully grabbing onto the lower of the plant and gently pulling it loose from the soil. He then set it down in the new pot and began to fill the soil around it carefully with his small shovel. He took great care not to touch the roots or leaves of the plant in any way, because he didn't want to harm it. All he had to do was add more soil and dung along with another light saturation of water and he would be finished.

Wouldn't you know it, the plant began to move its tentacles crazily as if it was ready to attack. William could see it reaching one of its vines towards him and quickly moved his arm out of the way. "Just give me another few minutes and I'll be on my way," William assured the plant. That thing shouldn't be hungry, there was plenty of nutrition in the soil for it to live off, but that was just the nature of a Venomous Tenacular, he supposed.

William waited a few moments for the plant to calm down and then finished his task, filling the soil, dung and water mixture so that it filled a little over half of the pot. "There you go, you're all set," he told the little plant as it nipped at him once again, barely grazing his finger without drawing blood. That was lucky, since his skin wasn't broken William knew that the poison wasn't going to enter his bloodstream. He had finished the task relatively unscathed and the plant should be happy in its new pot.

"I'll come back and visit you soon if you promise not to attack me again," William told the plant before he packed up his supplies. " I will call you "Commtion" William smiled at the plant. "William packed up his dupplies and left the.Greenhouse. A job well done Willaim thinks to himself.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Jory completed all the questions to the theory part of the exam. He wasn't sure he'd answered them to the best of his abilities. He scanned the answers once again. He hoped he would have more luck with practical.

He made his way to the back of the Greenhouse where work stations were set up. He saw the Venomous Tentacular they were going to have to repot. He wasn't a big fan of the plant but he snapped on his dragon hide gloves and moved over to one of the plants.

Jory took another pot which was a bit bigger than the one the plants were currently in. He half filled filled the pot with Abraxan dung which he learnt were best used on small plants and shrubs and the other half with dirt. Next, he added some water though not too much since the plant was only a seedling. He then made a small hole in the dung to put the seedling in. Now the plant was ready to go into it's new pot.

He approached the plant with caution and gently began to remove it from its old pot. The plant began to snap at him and Jory was glad for his dragon hide gloves. Finally he managed to get the plant into the new pot. Jory covered up the roots with soil and dung.

Jory stood back and looked at the plant. There were a few dead leaves and twigs. He picked those out but the were some that needed a spell to get them out. He pulled out his wand, swished it while muttering "flipnsnipwitit" as he had learnt in class. The dead parts fell away. "That's better," though Jory. The plant look as good as new.

Jory grabbed his quill and scribbled the required on a tag.

Name: Jory J. Stonewall
House: Hufflepuff

He tied the tag around the pot and left the Greenhouse.

Aiden is glad she has completed her theoretical exam. Putting down the quill, she lets a heavy sigh before rechecking the answers again. She already did her best. Good enough.

Before proceeding to the practical exam, Aiden takes out a pair of dragonhide gloves from her bag. After that, she makes her way to the back of the greenhouse and puts on her dragonhide gloves. She pulls the larger pot closer to her and loosen the soil and makes a small hole to fit the seedling's roots. She sprinkles some dragon dung fertiliser into the larger pot and showers some water. Seeing that Venomous Tentacula is a dangerous plant, it is a very bad idea to use mooncalf dung since it helps plants to grow faster and stronger.

Moving to the seedling itself, the Venomous Tentacula attempts to wrap Aiden's arms a few times. Getting sick of wasting time, Aiden grabs the vines and makes a downwards slashing movement towards the vines. "Diffindo," mutters Aiden and the vines are cut. Now it's easier for her to get the job done.

Cautiously, Aiden loosen the soil surrounding the seedling. She removes it from the small pot gently and moves it into the larger pot. Then, she pats the soil back together covering the roots before showering some water at the base.

Done.

Finally, Aiden takes out her quill and writes on the tag before tying it up around the pot.

Louisa had walked into the greenhouse, took a seat and read the theoretical questions twice letting them sink in before taking a deep breath and started writing with her face buried deep into the parchment.

Once she was finished, the girl got up and wore her gloves, put on her goggles since she was not going to repot a Venomous Tenacular seedling feeling so naked. Uh Uh. Walking to the area where the practical exam was held, Louisa approached a seedling slowly and grabbed the small pot gently. As she moved to an empty table to start working, the plant was moving casually trying to nibble at anything. Louisa was dodging the expected movements of the plants and let out a sigh of relief when she reached the table without screaming..not even once!

She brought all the things she needed to her own table work and set them neatly near the seedling. Filling the bottom of the bigger pot with stones, and then two thirds of the big pot were filled with soil and dragon dung since it let the seedling nourish with 'acceptable speed'. Louisa made a hole the size of the seedling's roots and patted it carefully. Then came the last part of setting the new pot up for the Tantacular, she splashed some water into the soil moisturizing it.

With a deep breath, she extended her hand to the seedling only to receive a sudden movement from one of its many 'arms'. Not taking any chances the girl got her wand out and used the Diffindo charm to cut some of the mobile vines. Feeling satisfied and safe, Louisa took hold of the seedling carefully taking it out of its old pot and moved it to the new set-up pot. Patted around the roots so it sank perfectly to the new home.

Taking one last look at it, the girl took her goggles off and took a step back, she had her wand in her hand and, "Snipntrimwitit!" She started trimming and making the plant into a better shape.

Two minutes later, she had her tag done, stuck it to the pot and made her way out of the greenhouse passing her theoretical parchment to the Professor with a small smile.

Setting her quill down on her desk, Kurumi picked up her parchment and walked over to Professor Bentley’s desk to hand it in. “Here is my theoretical, Professor,” Kurumi said shyly as she set the parchment down on the desk. Kurumi bowed and then proceeded to check the instructions for the practical portion of the exam.

Back of the greenhouse it was. Returning to her desk to grab her goggles, earmuffs, and dragonhide gloves – you never knew what plant would be making its appearance – Kurumi walked nervously to the back and set her things down on a work station. The first thing she noticed, her nose at least, was the assortment of dung over to the side. Wrinkling her nose a bit, Kurumi grabbed an instruction card and her jaw nearly hit the table top.

Well…at least it I got through the year not having to extract pus from a Bubotuber,” she laughed to herself. Not that she was excited to see a Venomous Tentacula either. Last time she had dealt with one of these was last term when Professor Vindictus had taken over Herbology and had earned her and Hugo a visit to the Hospital Wing.

Kurumi peered over the small potted Venomous Tentacula and actually smiled when she looked at them. They were so cute! Forgetting for a moment that she hadn’t put her gloves on, Kurumi reached out to touch the flower when…

*CHOMP*

Ouch! Ouchouchouchouch!” Kurumi wailed as she waved her arm around to try and shake the plant from teething onher finger. Its poison wouldn’t hurt her, right? It was only a baby after all… It became clear after a few more moments of flailing about that the plant wasn’t going to let go anytime soon, so Kurumi reached into her robe’s pocket for her wand and whipped it out. Now, for the proper intent so that she didn’t blow the poor thing up or anything. “Diffindo!” she whispered and the plan’s sucking and nibbling movements ceased and it’s vines stopped waving around.

After pulling her finger free, Kurumi inspected the wound and pointed her wand at her finger. “Ferula,” she whispered. Now that that was done, she pulled her gloves on as well as her goggles – she had already been bitten, no need for the plant to wake up and spit in her face too.

First, things first…Using her gloved hands, Kurumi began to gently remove the dirt from around the base of the plant and a small frown appeared on her face. The roots of the little guy were rotted in spots and broken in others. No wonder it had munched on her finger! The poor thing was starving for nutrients. Pulling the sapling out, she then pointed her wand at the roots and with a swish of her wand said, “Flipnsnipwitit.” Rotted bits of root began to drop off onto the table and soon the plant was finally ready for replanting. “You hold on just a moment,” she said removing her glove and sticking her finger in the soil. Just as she suspected, the plant had been overwatered.

Kurumi took the larger pot over towards the dung and inspected each one. Now, what had Professor Bentley said about each types of dung? Dragon dung is the most common, Hippogriff dung is best when used in greenhouses, Abraxan dung is best when used as part of a compost for flower beds or…dried fertilizer on small trees and shrubs? That sounded right. She had only read over her notes at least two hundred times the night before in preparation for the final. She hadn’t considered mooncalf dung yet, and there was something that she was forgetting about the dung other than it was one of the strongest of dungs out there. She looked over her shoulder at the plant and eyed the roots when a light bulb turned on in her head. “Of course!” she exclaimed as she added a bit of the mooncalf dung to the pot. “It helps increases the speed of root growth.” Which is something that her stunned little plant needed very much. Kurumi then added just a little bit of Hippogriff dung since the sapling was going to be in a greenhouse.

Satisfied, Kurumi returned to the Venomous Tentacula that was beginning to twitch. She’d better act fast before it woke up and decided that it liked the taste of her nose better than her finger. Venomous Tentacula in place, Kurumi patted down the soil around the sapling and poked a few small holes here and there with the tip of her quill to make sure it could breathe. Now for some water. Upon filling up the watering can, Kurumi sprinkled water over the plant and tested the soil every few seconds to make sure that the same thing didn’t happen to the plant. Giving the mini Venomous Tentacula a quick look over and cast Flipnsnipwitit on a few leaves and vines that were yellowed and wilted.

Time for the last step. Returning her watering can along the way, Kurumi picked up a blank tag and a piece of string and returned to her station.

Kurumi gently tied the string around the plant just in time for it to wake up from its nap. It’s vines wrapped around her head and began to squeeze tight. Thankfully, the spiky bits on the vines were mild and if she hadn’t known better, would have thought that the plant just wanted to give her head a massage for all her hard work. Flailing a bit, Kurumi pulled out her wand once more and bent her arm awkwardly over her head, hoping to Merlin that it was aimed at the plant and not some poor unsuspecting student. “Diffindo!” The vines ceased tightening themselves around her head and Kurumi managed to pull the vines off her head without stretching the vines or ripping them.

Jumping backwards, Kurumi grabbed her things and threw her bag over her shoulder before anything else could happen. Upon exiting the teething area, Kurumi removed her gloves and goggles and put them back in her bag. She smiled and gave an awkward, but triumphant, thumbs up to Professor Bentley and then exited the classroom.

Janice went to the green house and sat for the theorycal exam. After finishing it, she handed it in to Professor Bentley and took an Instruction card.
As she walked to the back of the greenhouse, she took out her dragonhide gloves and her wand, incase the sedling is arrogant.
When she saw her seedling, a shiver ran tough her fingers. Remembering the spell she just learnt from charms class, she whispered, "Diffindo!" and the Venomous Tentacula stunned. Well, that made things a lot more easier, she thought.

Bringing the larger pot near the seedling, she faced a teeny, tiny, problem. WHICH DUNG???? After calming herself, she started to think.
SPOILER!!: in her head
Mooncalf? Nah. It's going to be a lot bigger if I use that, and I don't want it to strangle Professor. Abraxan? I don't even know what that is. Dragon? Acceptable. It's usually that, right? How 'bout Hippogriff? Yes, they said that it's the best. Now. Which one? Hippogriff or Dragon? What if I mix it together?

After about 3 minutes she decided that she's not going to take risks by mixing them together, so she took the dragon dung with her as most probably the hippogriff dung has the same effects with the mooncalf's.

When she got back to her table, it looked like her seedling is having too much fun. It has opened her bag and started to destroy her quill. She frowned, and after putting her stuff she ‘diffindo’-ed the seedling again.

After everything has been settled down, she mixed soil with some dragon dung. She put it in the bigger pot and make a hole as big as the seedling’s roots in it. She took out the Venomous Tentacula seedling out of its pot, and remove the excess soil from it. Then, she put it in the bigger pot and put some of the dunged soil to cover the roots.

“Aguamenti!” She whispered, and a spray of water come out from the tip of her wand. Not too much, she thought. The soil was not soaked, and wasn’t too dry; it has been watered in a perfect amount of water. She smiled in satisfactory, and made her tag.

Salina bounced into the greenhouse, her usual cheerfulness seeming a little more obvious than usual. She nodded at Professor Bently before taking a seat. Answering her theoretical, she tried not to look at her answers. Probably not her best.

Once she was finished, she snapped on her gloves and tied her long hair up into a practical ponytail. Salina bounced off to the back of the greenhouse, for her practical.

She saw the Venomous Tentacula seedlings, and the pots, she had a pretty good idea of what they were doing. They were going to repot.

She smiled sheepishly at the seedlings before picking out what seemed to be the most harmless looking one which almost automatically wrapped a vine around her wrist. She then brought everything she needed to an empty table, gently pulling her hand away.

Pulling a larger pot towards her, she filled the bottom of the pot with stones and two-thirds of the pot with soil. She made a little hole in the soil. Well, not exactly little... More... Seedling root sized? Then, she watered the soil a little with her favorite flowery watering can to moisturize the soil.

Breathing in, she reached out to the seedling, suprisingly to have it wave its arms around playfully. It was really cute, but Salina had to focus. Taking firm hold of the seedling, Salina placed it into the bigger pot and sprinkled a bit of hippogriff dung around the plant. That was probably good, seeing as the plant started to snap happily. She didn't put in any mooncalf dung because that would cause it to grow a lot and we don't want Professor Bently to get hurt tending to the plants, do we? Hippogriff dung. The best.

Stepping away from the repotted Tentacula, she twirled her wand, wondering what she was supposed to do. Trim! Right!

"Snipntrimwitit." she muttered, swishing her wand back and forth to cut off the dead leaves and twigs. Yup, it looked loads better now.

Taking one last look at her masterpiece, she filled out her tag and stuck it onto the pot.

"Maybe I'll come back and visit you sometime..."
she said softly. Salina bounced out of the greenhouse, passing her theoretical portion to Professor Bently with a grin.

I'm just one of those pretty little liars... | | I'm held down in this starless city...

After checking and rechecking and triple checking her answers on the piece of parchment that was in front of her, Helena quietly placed the quill on the desk and walked over to where professor Bentley was sitting, to hand over her theoretical part of the exam. With a faint smile on her face, the girl spun around and moved towards the back of the greenhouse, for the practical part. Well, she couldn't exactly grin, even though she kept trying to convince herself that she'll do well.

But as she approached the work stations... her eyes shot directly towards the Venomous Tentacula, and all the hopes she had were gone. Her eyes also went wide and she kind of... froze. What was she going to do with THIS?! Drown it seemed like a good idea, unless she wanted to ever graduate. Studying it more carefully, she noticed that it was just a baby Venomous Tentacula. But once a Venomous Tentacula, always a Venomous Tentacula. It could still harm her, couldn't it?

Deep breath.

Maybe... if it was a baby version of the deadly plant... maybe it didn't have teeth, not that Helena wanted to find out. She wasn't THAT curious.

Alright. Time to repot it.

The girl looked around until she found a slightly bigger pot than the one the plant (was she allowed to give it a name?) was in. Before doing anything, she put on her gloves, and then slowly moved her left hand towards the plant, to grab it by the roots and to move it in the other pot. But... "AAAaaahh -"

She clapped her hands over her mouth and quickly stepped away, before any other sound could come out. Another deep breath. Well, apparently her nameless plant had teeth. And they wanted to bite her hand! Okay, think. What could stop the plant from moving?

...

Hoping that she wouldn't severe the plant in two, Helena whispered "Diffindo" as she pointed her wand at it. To her relief, it seemed to stop moving. What if... what if she killed it?! No, she didn't. At least that's what she wanted to believe.

After she made a hole in the soil that was in the empty pot, she gently grabbed the plant by its base and carefully pulled it out. She held it up for a few moments on the same level as her face was, and also made sure to keep a fair distance, just in case it woke up. She looked carefully at the roots, but they looked alright, so no trimming was necessary. Next, she placed it in the new pot, and gently patted the soil. Yes, she made sure she wasn't suffocating the plant, even though it deserved it. Hmph.

Helena was about to think of a fertilizer, but then she thought that she should water the soil a little. Since she was most definitely NOT taking off her gloves, and neither did she want to get dirt on her wand, she took the watering can that was somewhere nearby and filled it with water, then sprinkled a little bit over the soil. She wasn't sure whether the Venomous Tentacula needed any water on it, so she didn't add anything.

Next, fertilizer. Without even thinking, she picked the mooncalf dung, since that was the one that was more efficient when it came to growing. Maybe it'll help the plant. She sprinkled it around the base, and then another light sprinkle of water. She wasn't overwatering it, was she? No, she probably wasn't.

The young Slytherin looked over the card on which the instructions were written to see what else she had to do, and there was... trimming. Ah, of course. It was time for the funny spell. If she tried to avoid getting dirt on her wand, she had no other option this time, because she still wasn't going to take off the gloves. "Flipnsnipwitit," she muttered, as she swished the wand towards the dried leaves and anything else that needed trimming.

There. The baby Venomous Tentacula that still had no name looked much better. And it was... slightly moving. So she didn't kill it! But she'd better attach the tag, before it would completely wake up. Knowing that she'll regret this, she finally took off the gloves and quickly scribbled everything that was needed on the tag, then tied it around the pot.

Fortunately, she walked away from the plant before it could try to bite her, and with a smile towards professor Bentley, Helena left the greenhouse.

The Idea Man Kori-Kins

Simon walked into the classroom and then sat down and looked at the board seeing that first he had to do some writing he sighed, he didn't like writing and was hoping he would be able to something a lot less boring, once he was finished with the theory he double checked the answers, as soon as he was happy with them he looked at the board and smiled, there was a practical part of the final.

Simon walked to the back of the classroom to where the work stations were and then he was shocked he didn't want to replant one of these animals but he wanted the points so he decided he would try and do the work.
Simon put on his dragon hide gloves and googles on and picked up the small pot with contained the cute Venomous Tentacula seedling, he decided he would stroke it, suddenly it bit him luckerly he had his gloves on though this now ment war.

Simon picked up a larger pot and put it near him, he then put everything he needed on the empty table, he then looked to see what he had to do and when he remembered he smiled.

Simon half filled the larger pot with Abraxan dung, he hated dung but if it made the plant happy then he would make sure it had dung, he then made a hole in the dung where he would put the plant.

Simon took out his wand and grabbed a vine. ""Diffindo," he said as he did the incarnation, he was glad when it worked he didn't want to get into trouble for killing a plant.

Simon started to remove the seedling from the pot, he was being so gentle he didn't want to get into trouble for yanking it out of the pot even though he didn't want to.

Simon then put it in the bigger pot, he then put in the right amout of water, he didn't want to be known as a plant murderer, so he was going to make sure the Professor knew his plant was safe, looking at the plant he smiled it was looking grand.

Simon make his tag.

SPOILER!!: Simon tag

Once he had done that, he put the tag on the pot and then took off his glooves and googles before smiling at the Professor and leaving.

Hiss!Roar!Growl!Caw! | Hermione's Double | The Little Three | Alecate

Sierra released a soft sigh as she wrote out the very last word on her theoretical and then dotted in a period at the end of the sentence. Dear Merlin, that had taken forever! She tried to ignore the fact that a good many others had already finished both parts and were long gone by now. Maybe that meant she was just doing a really awesome job. Hmm. Yeah. Going with that idea sounded good enough, and so Sierra reread her work for errors and then stood from her desk. “My theoretical,” she said, giving Bentley the tiniest of smiles as she handed it over.

With part one out of the way, Sierra headed to the back of the greenhouse. Why was she suddenly nervous? Maybe because this was the last final exam she had to sit and then summer break would officially be on its way? Possibly, but she couldn’t think about that now. She peered into her little bag of supplies, making double sure she’d brought along possibly every supply she might need. There were the usual goggles and dragon-hide gloves, which she promptly put on, but she’d also brought along some earmuffs in case they had to deal with a Mandrake. It didn’t look like she’d be needing those, though. Of course she had her wand, which was still stowed away in its holster. She flicked it out for good measure and then carried it along as she approached the nearest workstation.

Her wide eyes surveyed the work station, and it was then that she realized this wasn’t going to be a piece of cake. At all. She stepped forward and grabbed a hold of an instruction card, and then she set to work reading it over and over again. Her stomach turned a few times. Did she even know how to do this? …and to a Venomous Tentacular at that! At least it was a seedling. The most it could probably do is nip at her fingers, and so she gave the seedling a teasing smirk before moving on. In response, the vines of the little seedling rose up, almost like it was a human shaking its fist at her. Sierra smiled in amusement before reaching right in and loosening the dirt around the rooted part of the plant. Pretty soon, she’d exposed the full plant, and she examined it to check and double check what she was working with.

The roots looked good; at least, they weren’t rotted. She couldn’t exactly say the same for the leaves, though. The seedling had been under-watered, which was at least better than dealing with an over-watered plant. She’d have to get rid of the wilted, brown leaves before repotting the plant, though. Diffindo, right? Or, hmm. No, not right. Bentley had said to use Diffindo for larger cuttings, like full branches. She just needed to trim off a few dead leaves. Ugh, she had to use that idiotic sounded Trimming Charm incantation, didn’t she? Ehh, whatever worked. She raised her wand and swished it in the direction she wanted to trim. “Flipnsnipwitit!” A single wilted, brown leaf fell off and she put it off to the side. Bentley may make compost later. Who knew. “Flipnsnipwitit!” she said again, swishing her wand across another dead leaf. Pretty soon, she’d trimmed away all the dead leaves.

Now she needed to decide what type of dung to use. Ugh, …dung! The agony! She was terrible at deciding the exact type of dung too use. Why couldn’t it all just do the same thing, and then she could just absentmindedly throw something in the pot and move on? Of course she had to stand here, analyzing the disgusting, smelly piles while she decided which one was best. Not dragon dung. No, it just seemed too common, and she thought she probably should think a little further on this. Not mooncalf dung either. There wasn’t anything wrong with the roots of this plant, so what did it need then? In the end, she took a deep sigh before choosing the hippogriff dung. It supposedly worked wonders with plants in greenhouses, and well, since they were in a greenhouse now, and it looked like this would be where the plant would live for a while, hippogriff dung it would be. She added in a good amount of the dung, a fourth or fifth of a cup she'd say, to the medium-sized pot, and with that, she was at least done with the smelliest part of the final.

Sierra placed her newly-trimmed plant into the pot it would now live in. She held it in place while she gently packed in the soil around it. Pretty soon, it was secure in the pot and ready for…what now? Water. It needed water, didn’t it? Yes, it’d been starved nearly to death, as she’d discovered earlier. Right, nothing a good Aguamenti couldn’t fix, right? She raised her wand to the plant, and…stopped. Wait. Wouldn’t the steady stream of water be a little too strong for the seedling? There was a watering can nearby, and she guessed it was there for a reason. She moved the direction of her wand toward the watering can. “Aguamenti!” she exclaimed, and the water poured into the can. When the can was full, she used it to pour just the right amount of water into the pot. The soil wasn’t swimming in water, but it wasn’t too dry either. It was a good in-between. Moist, she'd say. She poked around in the soil and created a few holes so the water could spread all over.

Was she done now? Was this it? Oh, yeah. She almost forgot the most important part of the entire process—receiving credit for her hard work. ...because, that was the most important, right? She reached for a name tag and a piece of string, and on the name tag she wrote:

Sierra Greingoth
Slytherin
Second year

She tied the string tightly and then eyed her plant. It raised its tentacles up toward her, and she dangled her fingers in front of it like she was playing with a little baby; and in a way, she was. It nipped at her finger once, and even though her finger stung for a mere second, she still smiled in amusement. Venomous Tentaculars weren’t really so bad when they were babies. With her seedling now properly repotted (or, so she hoped), Sierra set to work cleaning up her workstation. She put the watering can back where she’d found it, and then she gathered all the dead leaves in a neat pile so Bentley could use them for compost if need be. She hadn’t spilled any dung, thank Merlin, and so she didn’t need to clean any of that up. She backed away from the workstation and then surveyed her work. Looked good to her. It deserved a good hundred or so points, if she did say so herself.

She pulled off her gloves and googles, put them back into the bag she’d brought along, and then stored her wand away. Done. She was done now! She slung her bag over her shoulder and gave Bentley a nod of acknowledgment as she headed out.

So, she really hoped this wouldn’t be anything like the OWL since, well she didn’t know what THAT exam was going to be like, and if she messed THIS up, than who cares, right? Well no, probably Professor Bentley ‘because she may have killed the plant, but that didn’t really matter. Once she was done with the theoretical, she went over and gave it to the professor, though only smiled the smallest smile. That exam, even if short, gave her a hand cramp. So much writing going on during these last few days.

Going to the back of the greenhouses, Evelyn…awww…kay…

She had brought her dragon hide gloves, but she didn’t know they were going to be dealing with THOSE plants. However, in the few seconds she spotted them and after that small little inward tantrum she gave, she figured this plant was better than having to deal with devil’s snare. Way better. Putting on her gloves, she grabbed a spare pair of goggles and put those on as well before heading on over to the plant- FLAIL!

FLAILFLAILFLAIL!! Eeeep!

Even if small looking, it still had that creepy vine effect with the trying to grab her and stuff- SLAP! Stay away darn vines. Yes, she just slapped one of them. Pffft. Plants.

She knew there was one spell that would make it stop moving, but she figured the Professor wouldn’t enjoy actually having a dead plant on her hands and whether or not Evelyn enjoyed the subject, she wanted to get a good grade so there would be no need to set the plant on fire. However, she also figured she could get away with doing the bare minimum for this. The Slytherin girl didn’t like plants that hurt her, and if they tried, than she wasn’t going to give them the proper care! Didn’t the plants know respect? Good Merlin!

It was just that tongue twister of a spell that was going to be the major tongue twister. Flippynipster. Flipnsnippy. “Flipnsnipwitit.” It all rushed out kinda fast but it worked none the less. With the swish of her wand, she eyed the smallish piece she had…accidentally…cut off.

…Well it didn’t need that leaf anyway.

“Flipnsnipwitit.” She said again and again with a few more waves of her wand, and soon enough, a small pile of dead stuff from the plant sat in front of her- GOSH ARGH! Let…GO! GIVEHERWRISTBACK! “Diffindo!” SIT! Sit….huh. That…worked. That worked! She had almost forgotten those herbology books actually held information.

Rubbing her wrist, even if she had her gloves on and wasn’t able to be hurt, she turned her attention to the soil that it was currently sitting in. Now she was no expert, but that looked like some really dry dirt. No wonder it had so much dead stuff on it. Although, with the four different types of fertilizer to use…heck, she didn’t know which one to use. Vinny used that dragon dung didn’t he? Right? For his quidditch pitch? And his quidditch pitch always looked amazing. So that dragon dung fertilizer was what she was going to use.

Not really knowing how much of the stuff to use though, she took a small bit, perhaps a small handful, and sprinkled it around the rather not moving plant, and sorta mixed it in a little bit. Just a little. She didn’t want her hand to be anywhere near that chomping part of it, nor the weird spiky vines. And after that was done, she tore off one of her gloves so she could handle her wand WITHOUT covering it was fertilizer, and first scourgified her gloves before sticking that glove back on and watering the plant. “Aguamenti.”

Since the plant looked rather dry, she didn’t OVERwater it, but she did give it a good healthy dosing of the liquid stuff. Since she had already loosened the soil some, it’d be easier for the water to seep down too. Stopping the spell, she stood back and took a look at the plant. That…she was done right? That was the minimum she had to do?

Either way, she figured she was done. Picking up a name tag thing, she wrote out her name, year, and house, and tied it around the pot she completely helped. Yea, this plant was totally thankful for her. Totally.

SPOILER!!: Tag

Name: Evelyn Flores
House: Slytherin
Year: 6th

….Let GO of her WRIST! Did she need to diffindo it again!? Because she would. And she wouldn’t miss the middle of the plant either! Let…let GO! THERE! Good Merlin, she was out of there. She didn't even say goodbye to the Professor. She was goooooone.
