There certainly was a smile on Rae's face as she entered what Prof Chaud called "Hooligan Hole." Right now, anything with Prof Chaud sounded fun, even if he was angry at her. So she was in the room... Now what? Rae spun around on her heel to face the charming Charms Professor. "What have you got planned for us today?" Sure, she was the one with detention, but he had to be here with her, therefore she gladly used the word us.

Having followed the Slytherin into the Hooligan Hole, Jared stood there, the eyebrow refusing to go down, courtesy her giant smile and resumed spinning and hopping. For Heaven's sake, he had placed her in detention, not taken her along for a roller-coaster ride.
Do not make us suspicious, strange child.

Not now anyways, don't seem desperate. Rae's smile reformed as she spoke, "It's a lovely day to be happy. Let's say I look on the bright side." The extremely bright side, because right now, Rae saw no dark side in this equation. Rae + Prof Chaud + Detention = ULTIMATE FUN!

This change of scenery is quite nice." Of course she wasn't speaking of the dungeons though. She never broke eye contact with him. Psh, not with those beautiful green eyes of his. Now Prof Chaud explained what they were doing tonight. Her smile definitely faded and she was no longer as bright as the morning star. 20 reasons why it was a BAD idea? That's impossible! Errr. Great. She'd be lucky if she could come up with ten! Rae once again picked up the quill and started to try and write something.. Quote:

"Did I ever for a second look like I was going to be acting like a Prefect?" That should be an obvious question. The line has been drawn, and her tiptoes were threatening to cross. "You never wanted a detention before?" She asked the question so to lighten the question off her.

Scowl, Rae stared back at the paper, took a glance a him, then again at the paper. Not how she planned this detention. Not that she was complaining, but it wasn't ideal. "Only twenty now..." Rae commented, while tapping her paper. Quote:

Now Rae's mind was running dry on idea's. She had tried to be creative with her answers but there simply weren't enough bad things to cover it. She got exactly what she wanted... Yeah she felt a bit bad about the office, but she didn't injure anyone. She did what she had to do for that detention. No regrets.

As Prof Chaud examined her list Rae kept her gaze fixed upon him. When he talked, it was like Merlin himself couldn't create a better sound. Except he was angry, and that didn't sit well with Rae for too long. However, Prof Chaud just said that she had to take detention seriously.......
A smile played on her lips. Okay, why not go with it, even if she totally wasn't serious. Rae scratched out a few of the answers that she thought he considered unacceptable.. Leaving her with a much shorter list of certain Rae-approved reasons... Quote:

Right.... seven reasons. This is gonna be a lot harder than she thought. Taking a glance at the Charms teacher's face, she came up with more reasons and quickly tried to write them down... Quote:

9. Dessi could have tried to claw at Prof Chaud's pretty face then he would have scars and even if it would give him a dangerous looking edge, we don't want that.
10. Dessi could have tried to eat Prof Chaud's nice hair, because it probably smells like candy and she would have no control over not eating something that smells like candy.
11. If Dessi would have hurt Prof Chaud, I would cry. (And I DONT cry)
12. Dessi could have been hurt too!
13. I could have been sentenced to get my soul sucked out by a nasty dementor with no teeth and the bony hands that look like they've never been washed.
14. He obviously doesn't like detention like I do.
15. I don't like when Prof Chaud is mad at me.
16. He could have sent me to a Fire-Breathing-Basilisk-Lady Lafay
17. Prof Chaud could have taken revenge and thrown me into the lake to live with the giant squid even if Professor Welton says he's friendly.
18. He could have ordered a bunch of Acromantulas to carry me from my sleep into the forbidden forest to devour me alive.
19. I could have been sent to work with the house elves to clean bathrooms and make Destiny's mashed potatoes for dinner every night.
20. Prof Chaud could have been so mad at me that he would never talk to me again.
21. If he never talked to me again then I would cry. (for the second time)
22. Prof Chaud could have broken my wand and expelled me.
23. Niffler poo probably stinks and if Dessi pooed and Prof Chaud stepped in it, he would stink, too.
24. They have long noses and could have easily gotten itself stuck..somewhere.
25. Worst of all, Prof Chaud could have made me do CHARMS for my detention!

Of course when it came to Rae's reasons, the ones with what Prof Chaud could have done doesn't mean Rae thought he would actually do it. She knew that he wasn't mean, but writing down a bunch of 'could haves' and 'ifs' seemed to use up her writing space. For his question however... She could only think of one answer... "Cause........ You got mad?"

"No," Jared said calmly, though Merlin knew he didn't feel calm. "I didn't get mad because you put Dessi in my office. I got "mad" because you put Dessi there, knowing he might ruin important items and documents present in the office."
He could so not believe he had to explain even that.
"The point," he continued [since it didn't look like she might reach the point, any time within the next twenty-four hours, or even days]. "Is that it's wrong to intentionally damage anyone's property." He felt like he was explaining that two plus two has to equal four, just has to equal four, to a clueless child. "Do you see why?"
He could hope for an actual answer, couldn't he?

So Prof Chaud was explaining what she already knew. Of course it was wrong to intentionally damage one's property. But if detention is needed, then sometimes one must enter in the wrong to get what they feel is right.
Detention + Rae = Right. "It's wrong because........." She looked very thoughtful when answering this, maybe there was hope. "You got mad."
All hope is lost.

Simple enough question, simple enough answer. "Yes if I had placed Dessi into another's territory then I wouldn't be caught. Because the only other reason I would purposely let Dessi go besides meaning to get caught would be if I didn't like the person. But surely I wouldn't get caught so they wouldn't know it was me. And if they get sad about valuables.... They should've thought about something like that before I got mad at them...... " She paused, realizing that Prof Chaud's stuff was messed up without having done anything wrong. "I had intended to be caught this time, and I'm sorry about your things, I'll pay for them... My father left me more than I ever needed in his will. I pretty much want rid of it anyways. I'll pay for any damages in your office." For that statement, was actually genuine. And it wasn't until after she had spoken that she had become aware of the personal information that she had not intentionally wanted to give away. Rae cleared her throat hoping he might just forget that father part and only hear the 'I'll pay' part.

This could not be happening to him.

The little cough and her look at the end causing him to feel she had said more than she had intended to, he chose to ignore the latter part of her ramble, and focus on the first. "This is not about payment, Rae. This is about understanding why what you did is wrong." He looked up from the parchment and at her, his voice calm as he spoke.
"Sneaking a niffler into a place that belongs to someone else, despite being aware of the damage it can cause, isn't right; and your not getting caught does not make it so. No one has the right to damage another person's property for any reason whatsoever, and especially not because one is 'mad.' Do you understand that?"

I know your stuff is important, but would you have given me a detention any other way? I always knew it was wrong, but if I did something that was right I wouldn't be here." Make sense? Now her voice dropped a little, a smaller voice. "I would really like to help with damages... I understand it was wrong." But she's not sorry.
