Hufflepuff vs. Slytherin

It was nearing the end of the term and the weather was absolutely splendid on this late-Spring day. The temperature was warmer than usual, the sun was shining and the brilliant blue sky was void of any clouds - the perfect weather to be lying on a beach someplace (and the type of weather that made one forget about studying).

Professor Vindictus was familiar with playing in such conditions and had already taken the usual precautions - slathered on a high SPF sunscreen (even his hair products contained sunscreen 'cause there was nothing worse than a sunburned scalp) and was wearing officiating robes made out of a lightweight material (he realized that perhaps the four teams needed three different sets of robes made out of different fabrics for the various weather conditions - all they had were the standard robes made out of sturdy wool).

"Welcome to the Quidditch Cup Championship game between Hufflepuff and Slytherin!" he announced to the crowd. "Please give your teams a loud round of applause as they take to the pitch!"


Two sets of gates creaked open to reveal the teams - Hufflepuff (clad in yellow) and Slytherin (clad in green) - the athletes were standing by their brooms awaiting the signal to enter the stadium.

The teams took to the pitch in a blur of yellow and green. For several minutes, the athletes flew around the pitch before settling into position overhead so that Professor Vindictus could check the rosters. Nodding his approval to the captains, he tucked the rosters away and released the Bludgers and Snitch into the air. He grabbed the Quaffle and mounted his own broom so that he could join the teams in the air.

"I want a clean game from both houses," Vindictus began. "Remember to play your positions and keep your focus on the game. Ready?" There were a bunch of nods. "On my whistle . . . one . . . two . . ." He brought the whistle up to his lips. "TWEET!" As he gave the signal, he tossed the Quaffle into the air amongst the Chasers.

It's a blur of yellow and green as the Chasers fight over the Quaffle . . . there's pushing and shoving . . . a few broom tails are grabbed from behind . . . suddenly, Melanie Lockhart darts out of the fight with the Quaffle in her hand . . . she tucks it under her arm as she zooms down the pitch . . . Trixie Malfoy follows in hot pursuit . . . Malfoy inches closer to Lockhart . . . Lockhart leans closer to her broom and zooms away from the Slytherin defender . . . she enters the scoring area . . . Lockhart raises her arm and she shoots . . . DING! Melanie Lockhart scores the first points of the game for Hufflepuff!

Oliver Greenwood retrieves the Quaffle and he puts it back into play . . . his pass is caught by Kevin McKay and he tucks it under his arm as he zooms forward . . . he zooms beneath a Hufflepuff defender and raises his arm . . . McKay passes to Trixie Malfoy . . . she makes the catch and zooms forward . . . Malfoy zig-zags past two Hufflepuff defenders and raises her arm . . . she passes to Dillon Greenwood and he makes the catch . . . he enters the scoring area . . . Greenwood raises his arm and he shoots . . . THWACK! Miranda BelCanto uses a sweeping motion of her broomstick to swat the Quaffle away from the left goal hoop and denies Slytherin a chance to tie the game.
