The Headmaster's office was a remarkably tidy place. The desk was devoid of the normal office-related hodgepodge, empty of stacks of papers and quill nubs spilling from desk drawers. It was especially odd considering the former occupant of this office.

Spread across the room were a few signs as to the disposition of the man in question. Heavy coffee mugs and steins perched atop one bookshelf, the shelves beneath lined with travel guides, language books, and Dark Magic and defense tomes. A few photographs of the Headmaster and people of varying nationalities sat on a low shelf behind his desk, under the large window that often hung open to the grounds.

The only real oddity in the office, or the only one in plain site, was a foe glass. The contents were murky, although occasionally a face rose to the surface that looked something like the DADA professor, but it disappeared before recognition. The Headmaster mostly ignored it.

You absolutely may not enter this office unless given the password or given access by the Headmaster. If you RP yourself here without following instructions, your post will be unceremoniously deleted.

"Have a seat," Tate gestured to the comfortable chair across from his desk. He dragged his own chair out... something about barriers between him and his men made him uncomfortable.

"Let me tell you my thoughts, and then I welcome yours. First, I recognize that you were not trying to be disrespectful. I suspect you have a highly ironic sense of humor, one you like to employ in stressful situations. Most ignore it, and those that catch your tone laugh at it. In most situations... I'd laugh. To be honest, I'd be the one to be lippy. Do you see why it might not have been the time for it in the Great Hall?"

Glancing around at the room, Sabel couldn't help but slow his walk as he took in all the details. It was beautifully stunning. That was until his foot caught on the edge of something he didn't have time to see, and he more fell into he seat offered than sat in it. Taking a moment to untangle his legs from one another and right himself upon the rather cushiony, and probably expensive, surface, Sabel focussed his attention on ignoring the sting in his ankle and what little pride he had, and on the Headmaster.

His first thought was that the Headmaster sounded a lot more reasonable than he had in the Great Hall, the second was that he could not see him being lippy, not in the sense Sabel had been labelled anyways. He vaugely wondered if the Headmaster had the same definition of the word, and if he took points from himself for being 'lippy', but kept the thoughts to himself, frowning slightly at the question instead. As usual, he didn't take time to consider his words or scrutinize them very carefuly and they came out. "I can see why humor would fall short in such a time. But can you also see why I said what I did? Why your wording of the situation made you seem as if you were looking specifically for one responsible?"

"Do you read the papers..." Tate wrinkled his brow. Hm. Big important part of introductions had been skipped. "Professor Tate," he pointed to himself. "And you are...?"

Sabel couldn't keep the frown off his face; those words sounded to him too much like an evasion from his question. He let a moment of silence pass between them as he considered the Headmaster, though he wasn't sure if it was because he was trying to sort through what he had read and hadn't read, or if he wanted the Headmaster to know he hadn't liked the response. Either way, he figured it was best not to be rude, or ruder, and held out his hand in greeting; again, natural reflex he couldn't seem to stop. "Sabel Dakest. And it depends on what papers you are speaking of. I'm from Canada, so what is reported there is a little different than what makes prime time here."

"Mr. Dakest," Tate repeated the name. "It's my pleasure to meet you. I would hope your parents had the foresight to do research into the school before blithely shipping you along, but the crux is this... you say my wording suggests I was looking specifically for someone to hold responsible. After what happened at this school last year, I can't be too careful in assuming that someone is responsible. And you can rest assured that I will find that someone."

Resting his elbow on the arm of the chair, Sabel considered the Headmaster with a frown as he chewed on his thumb. "So you did suspect someone to be responsible; the food posioning was just a cover to keep the students calm."

He shook his head a little. "I heard about the murders last year, how the murdurer still hasn't been found. But two questions come to mind. One; if you are so sure it is this same person who is attacking the school again, why weren't you more cautious about the food? Why didn't you take more precautions?" Admittedly it was hard to keep track of such things, but if the Headmaster was positive it was an attack, that there was going to be an attack this year again, if he even suspected it, it only made sense he should have, or have had, precautions in place.

"And two. Why are you telling me this? Why didn't you just leave the explanation as food posioning and leave me with my two negative points?"

"I never said food poisoning, and I still maintain the food was fine. As I heard the lovely Healer Ashford say several times, those who got sick were probably snacking on the train and then made poor choices at dinner. I have to be vigilant because you lot are on my hands, and someone was ill for no reason."

The other question was more troubling. Casey had no point of reference in working with children and he was always honest with his men about what they faced. Should he sugarcoat for them? No. He never sugarcoated.

"And I'm telling you this because its in your own best interest to be vigilant as well. All of you. The theme this term is 'Don't die.'"

The man was being honest; so blatantly honest it seemed to trouble him. That or something else was troubling him. The first possibility was slightly reassuring, the second, not so much. But there was still something that Sabel couldn't understand that kept him sitting on the edge of the comfy chair instead of lounging back in it; and he knew it wasn't because he had gotten in trouble.

Letting out a heavy sigh he looked back at the Headmaster. "If you were so sure the food was fine, then why did you bring up consequences of retribution for Brant's condition?"

"I don't find those two mutually exclusive," Tate shrugged. "If we're both working at being aware, then you won't die. Period."

There was nothing wrong with an inquiring mind, but Tate was weary of defending himself to a student who was actually the one in the wrong. "Let's circle back. What shall we task you to do to get your points back?"

By the shorter response he was getting, Sabel figured it might be best to keep his questions to himself. He could feel the wheels running rampid in his mind as if he had hired a dozen mice to turn them for him, but like the wheels the inquires weren't getting him anywhere.

Giving a one-shouldered shrug, Sabel looked up at the Headmaster. "If I may speak honestly Sir, and without any disrespect, but I did not come to reclaim points. I was more concerned about the situation that transpired in the Great Hall. I'll take my negative two points." He reasoned he was being stubborn in that he didn't consider what he had said to earn him those points had been completely out of line.

Letting out a small sigh, he shrugged his shoulder and tried again. "I could ask the food if I could get them back." A wince caught him at hearing his own words; probably not the best time for jokes here either. "I'll work to get them back, Sir." He attempted for a third time as he stood, barely reminding himself to watch his footing in time to keep it from snagging on the rug again. He figured it was probably close to time for him to leave before he cost his house more points or frustrated the Headmaster any further.

He sighed. The boy hadn't really been listening, had he? A time and a place for sarcasm... couldn't possibly be while you were in the process of making up for doing it previously. "I hope so, Mr. Dakest. I would hate for the house cup to be lost for want of 2 points. If that's your final decision, you are dismissed."

That sigh wasn't good. Neither was his attempt at livening things up between them either. Glancing towards the door Sabel thought for a long moment. He could feel the guilt-trip pulling at him. Well, guilt may not have been the best word to describe it as he had no problem with what he said. What he did have a problem with, was the fact he was going to let his house suffer because of his pride. That was the guilt trip. Letting out a heavy sigh he shook his head. He would work for those points as he had said he would. No sense on going back on his word.

Turning back to the Headmaster he gave a small, sincere bow. "Thank you for taking the time to discuss with me Professor Tate. And thank you for your honesty." With his focus on not tripping over the carpet or catching a foot on a chair leg, Sabel turned and headed out of the Headmaster's office. Of course, he had to trip down the last few steps and almost stumbled headlong back out into the waiting room before turning for the Gryffindor common room quickly.

Sidney is too busy taking everything in to notice the Gryffindor boy nearly fall down the stairs. She can not believe she is going to be in the headmaster's office in a moment, and then he opens the door. Sidney walks in. The first thing that catches her eye is the portrait of Professor Dumbledore behind the headmaster's desk. He really is larger than life. Then Sidney sees Professor Snape trying to look inconspicuous. I never noticed that Professor Snape and Professor Duskurk have the same scowl. Could I be wrong about him? Then Sidney hears Phineas Nigellus snoring. She turns around to see him pretending to be sleeping. How can she say he was just pretending? Easy, how many people or portraits sleep with one eye open. Of course he quickly closes it when he realizes I saw it open. Then I get an uncontrollable case of the giggles. "It's a pleasure to meet you too Headmaster Black." Sidney is so engrossed in the portraits; she completely forgets she came to see... Great! I'm going to look like a prized idiot. I've forgotten his name... again.

Tate stared at the small girl in consternation. Was she lost? Why was she staring at the walls like a prize idiot? Ah, Hufflepuff. Perhaps that explained it.

"Miss? If you're ill, perhaps the infirmary would suit you better. Otherwise... what can I do for you?"

Sidney snaps a photo of Phineas Nigellus Black. She completely forgot about the headmaster- What is his name? is also in the room. Sidney turns around and snaps a picture of Albus Dumbledore. Well she planned to do that. Instead she get a wonderful picture of the Headmaster's nose and upper face. The camera flash goes off right in his eyes. "O-o-o-h, I-I-I-m-m so sorry. I didn't see you there sir." Well, I guess I now hold the record for the shortest time as a student at Hogwarts. I imagine blinding the headmaster will get me an immediate trip home on the Hogwarts Express. Good thing I haven't unpacked too much. "Can I do anything to help you?" Sidney throws her camera in a chair, and tries to help the headmaster.

Tate summoned the camera and deposited it in a drawer on his desk. "Let me get this straight, miss. There is a line of students waiting to speak with me, possibly emergencies or issues of concern, and you're here to snap photographs of my office?"

He shook his head. He wasn't mad, simply because getting angry was a waste of energy, but he was moving there quickly. What was going on in this school?

Sidney doesn't really understand why the headmaster is acting like something bad is going to happen at any moment. "Yes sir, sorry sir, I didn't realize we are at a state of emergency sir. Has something happened? Is there another Dark Wizard on the loose at Hogwarts, sir?" Sidney snaps to attention. Why does she feel like she's been sent to a military school instead of a school of witchcraft and wizardry.

Now what did I do wrong? I really don't understand this man. "I came to introduce my self to you sir. I realize students generally don't just drop in on the headmaster, but I... Your speech at the opening feast was.... I don't understand sir. I thought the danger had passed. My father said the person responsible for the murders last term had been arrested and was awaiting trial in Azkaban prison. I apologize for taking up your valuable time. Since I was a little girl, I've wanted to see the headmaster's office at Hogwarts. I apologize for acting like a Tammy tourist... I need to know what to tell my parents. They are going to be upset when they find out I've been sorted in Hufflepuff House. It seems the dark wizard has something against Hufflepuffs. My parents would have never allowed me to come here if they thought there was... My name is Sidney Marlowe sir." Harry said the teachers at the Academy are friendly, helpful, and reassuring. It must be me. I just seem to bring out the worse in everyone. Sidney tucks her head. She feels like crying, but she knows that's not a good idea not with this professor.

"Your father reads the papers and so he must be right," Tate answered coolly. He took a seat, shoving the chair opposite his desk against the far wall. She was not invited to sit. "Let me be frank with you, Miss Marlowe. I'm glad you are pleased to be at Hogwarts and I hope you have a good year. However, if you insist on acting as if this is an amusement park for your own enjoyment, you will miss out on a great deal and will lose potential friends in the long run. This is a school, and the others here care little for where you've been and quite a lot about what you bring to the table."

He wasn't giving her back her camera either. "It's my pleasure to meet you, Miss. I hope you enjoy your year."

Tate smirked a bit. "As I said at the feast, my name is Headmaster Gaellen Tate. There are a number of new staff faces this term, so you'll have quite a few names to learn."

Daniel entered the Office of the Headmaster. As he saw the whole of it at last.
His eyes widen and his mouth was at agape. He couldn't believe what he is seeing with his own eyes, the former Headmasters and Headmistresses of Hogwarts.

"Great day, Professor Tate" he said with a smile on the man on the great chair.

He then looked around at the wall. There is Dumbledore, then Black, and then some other old guy...

"How are you, Professor? I am Daniel Robert James Kaiser." he said.
