The weather was ideal for the game - pristine blue skies, fluffy white clouds, and a radiant sun shining down on the green grass of the Pitch and the occupants in the Stands. The air was comfortably warm and occasionally, a light breeze would cause the fabric hangings of the stands to ripple. With a huge grin on his face, Professor Vindictus strode out onto the Pitch and signaled for the teams to take the field.

The tell-tale creaking sound from the old hinges echoed in the stadium and then a loud whoosh of air was heard as a flurry of figures dressed in green and red swarmed around the Stadium.

After several minutes of flying around the stadium, the players finally took their positions overhead and Professor Vindictus double-checked his roster. He gave a curt nod of the head to the captains and then addressed the crowd.

"Welcome to the Consolation Game between the Slytherin Serpents and the Gryffindor Lions!" he announced in a booming voice. Hisses and roars came from the supporters as well as some ear-piercing whistles. After the crowd settled down, he continued. "We begin this game with a penalty. Slytherin changed their roster after the deadline and according to the rule book, Gryffindor is awarded ten points." He flicked his wand and the scoreboard showed the correct score. Now he turned his attention to the teams overhead.

"I know that there is a history of fierce rivalry between both your Houses, but let me remind you to play by the rules and avoid obvious fouls. Anyone injured today will be treated by Healer Trelawney. So no hexing or jinxing, no slipping on an invisibility cloak, and don't gouge each other's eyes out!" He heard the players murmuring overhead about the healer intern and took a moment to release the Bludgers and Snitch into the air. "Remember to play your positions. On my whistle . . . one . . . two . . . three!" A shrill whistle was heard and Vindictus tossed the Quaffle into the air overhead.

The Beaters are smart enough to get out of the way as the Chasers fight over possession of the Quaffle. Pushing, shoving, and tugging on robes occurs . . . a few shreds of green and red flutter to the grass below. Finally, a figure in red emerges from the battle and zooms down the Pitch . . . Cale Newell enters the scoring area . . . he shoots . . . DING! Newell scores for Gryffindor!

Angry with himself for letting the first shot through his tiny outstretched hands, Theo Newtington tosses the Quaffle to Clifford Carden . . . Carden zooms down the pitch . . . he passes to Eleanor Bluebell . . . she zooms forward but is quickly surrounded by Gryffindor defenders . . . Bluebell launches a perfect pass to Carden who catches it one-handed . . . he enters the scoring area . . . he shoots . . . THWACK! Anna Greingoth swoops down and knocks the Quaffle away from the center goal hoop. As the crowd cheers loudly, she puts the Quafffle back into play.

Alexis Chosen . . . she zooms down the pitch . . . soon, she feels the brunt of a broomstick colliding with her own broom and she quickly passes to Newell who is now left unguarded . . . he catches the pass and enters the scoring area . . . he shoots . . . DING! Newell scores as the Quaffle sails over the head of Theo Newtington and into the left goal hoop. Newtington retrieves the Quaffle and puts it back into play.

A loud gasp is heard from the crowd as Anna Greingoth reaches out to attempt the save but the Quaffle sails through her open fingertips and into the goal hoop. (Correct answer: a severed hand; Slytherin scores; Bludger hit by Gryffindor and Slytherin loses 10; Slytherin score remains at 0).
