Arithmancy Final Exam

Shackleton stepped quietly into the Arithmancy classroom and swiftly approached the boards. Quickly but neatly, she wrote:

Quote:

1. Calculate the following for Neville Longbottom (15 points):
a. Karmic Lessons
b. Karmic Debts
c. Hidden Passion Number
d. Subconscious Self Number
e. Three Major Cycles

2. Provide the textbook definitions/meanings for each of the above calculations, as well as your own interpretations of the accuracy of the numbers/meanings (25 points).

Note: Some of these calculations require other calculations to be made first. While I am not requiring that you submit those calculations, if you make a mistake in your math and do not submit those calculations, I cannot award partial credit. So your choices are to either be VERY careful with your math, or submit the background calculations in the event that you are eligible for partial credit.
Upon putting the finishing touches on the instructions, Professor Shackleton took a seat behind her desk and waited for the students to arrive.

OOC: Due: April 28th by 6pm. Please submit your final exam in the same fashion all homework was submitted. You may RP your character taking the exam, but please do not post your answers in this thread. Thanks for a great term! :)

Walking into the class room, Liz smiles at Professor Shackleton, Hello Professor!

Liz takes a seat, and takes out her notebook and a quill. She looks up at the board, and gives a sigh of relief, this will be easy, she says to herself.

She looks down at her paper and starts to work on the questions.

Taking a seat in the Arithmancy class, Claudian took out his bag and pulled out his Arithmancy journal, as well as a self-inking quill and his reading spectacles. Staring at the words Professor Shackleton just wrote. 'Neville Longbottom?' he thought to himself as he tried to recall the information he'd used for Longbottom when he drew up a natal chart for kicks. Scribbling that down on a separate sheet of parchment, on which he'd work out most of the math, he began his calculations occassionally stopping to wrinkle his nose in disfavour of the trickier calculations. It was a still a tough subject for him, but he put forth his best efforts hoping that they'd ammount to something.

When he was through, he applied a drying spell to the still wet ink in the last few pages of his journal, saving the very last one for sentimentalities sake. He checked over his math and did a last-chance editing of his interpretations and turned to the last page of his Arithmancy journal. With his quill he inscribed a short note to the professor thanking her for her patience and for her dedication to the subject. He was going to miss Professor Shackleton, as he was all of his teachers. He hoped she'd still be here if and when he had any children, even nieces or nephews, to send away to Hogwarts.

Satisfied with his answers, Claudian stood from his seat, folded and tucked the scratch-parchment into the journal page on which he'd done the final, gathered his belongings and approached the Arithmancy Professor. "Professor Shackleton?", he said quietly. "Thank you for the wonderful term." Turning out of the class for the final time, he headed down the hall and on to what awaited him in the future.

Rhiannon walked into class, hoping she was ready for the Arithmancy final exam. Smiling at the professor, she sat down and glanced up at the board, reading the exam question. Once she was certain that she understood everything, she took out her journal, as well as a quill and everything else she may need to answer the question.

Thinking for a second, to make sure she has the right information for the exam, she finally puts quill to paper and starts calculating.

Xana entered the arithmancy classroom and sat down to take her exam. She read the instructions and quickly got to work making calculations. Arithmancy was never going to come easy to her, but she would always be grateful to the professor for taking the time to help her understand its relevance and offering her words of wisdom about the application of the subject in her own life.

She finished her exam, double and triple checking the figures, and then submitted the parchment to the professor.

"Thank you for everything, Professor." she whispered as she turned in her exam. She smiled at her and then quickly left the classroom for the last time. As excited as she was about her own future, the seventh year student couldn't help but feel melancholy to be saying goodbye to all her professors... saying goodbye to Hogwarts.

Cassandra came into the classroom and sat down. She gave the professor a polite nod, and started on the final. These numbers were making her head hurt... Oh well... she finished up the final and brought it to the front of the class. Again Cassandra gave Shackleton another nod as she handed her the assignment and left rather quickly...

Excelsior had gotten special permission to leave the hospital wing for brief periods of time so that he could attend classes and get his finals completed, so it was nice to be able to get out for a change. As he looked at the board and read the homework assignment, he suddenly began to feel a bit lightheaded but was determined to put forth the effort and complete the assignment. He set to work, finally satisfied with his results, and dropped his completed paper on Professor Shackleton's desk before exiting the classroom. He smiled at the professor on his way out, he would really miss this class, as well as the professor.

Emma smiled as she looked at the questions. She hadn't gotten this subject at first, but she had studied for hours during the past week, and she had finally begun to understand it. Better late than never, right?

She quickly did her calculations and made sure that all her answers were correct before going up and handing it in. It had taken her about 45 minutes, but she was sure her work was correct. She smiled at the Professor and exited the room.

Saylie quickly jotted down what was needed, then began calculating. She went through and double checked every single thing she wrote down, determined to make sure that she had everything right.

Turning her quill over and over between her fingers she read over the exam, it wouldn't do for her to make a mistake in this class. This was her favorite, the one class she truly excelled in. She set the quill down and nodded at the parchment, as if it had asked her how she'd done. Smiling, she took her parchment up to the front.

Putting the finishing touches on her answers, Rhiannon double-checks her math before closing her journal. Glancing up at the professor's desk, she sees that several other students had already turned their exams in. Shrugging, she stands up and brings her exam up to add to the stack. As she hands it in, she quietly says, "I enjoyed class this term. Thanks for convincing me that arithmancy can be fun," to Professor Shackleton.

Returning to her desk, she gathers up all her belongings and leaves the classroom, feeling fairly confident that she did well on this exam.

Austin walked into his favorite class, Arithmancy, nodded to the professor and took his seat. Looking at the board, Austin read the instructions and then began to work.

Lizasaurus 04-26-2008 01:06 AM

After looking over her answers, Liz picks up her parchment, and brings it to the professor. Have a great summer professor!

Austin looked over his work making sure that his calculations were correct and his ideas on the interpretations made sense. He stood collecting his parchment and hands it to the professor.
"Thanks for a great term" Austin said quietly to the professor, trying not to disturb the other students still working.

Kerry arrived and looked up at the board. "Wow, that's a whole lot of calculations," Kerry thought to herself as she took a seat in the back of the classroom. Placing her bag on the floor, Kerry grabbed her ink, quill and parchment and quickly began to scribble down the numbers that were relevant to Neville.

As the calculations were completed, Kerry sighed realizing she was only half way through the final. "Now to figure out what all this means and interpret it. Fun stuff." Kerry muttered to herself sarcastically. "Something tells me if it has to do with Neville, the interpretations will entail a whole lot of work for the poor guy to do." Kerry thought to herself as she massaged her aching hand before continuing on to complete those interpretations.

Anna Banana 04-27-2008 06:09 AM

Anna completed the first list of calculations, taking up pages and pages of parchment. "Wow, this is tough," she noted to herself, counting the pieces of parchment she had used.

Sighing, she got back to work, hoping she would pass with flying colors. Arithmancy had been one of her strongest subjects this term.

Amelia walked into the Arithmancy Final and took a seat near the front. She loved Arithmancy, but somehow exams just made her stomach do knots. Seriously. She the moment she looked at the board, it was like someone took an eraser to her mind.

After finally struggling through the first part the exam, which was in essence the challenging part, the sixth year flipped to the next page in her journal for the next piece. Interpretations. Ugh. She hated this part. The hufflepuff began to write, ignoring the cramping that was already incurring in her right hand.

alyweasley 04-28-2008 09:16 AM

Alycya walked slowly into the classroom and took an empty seat with a Final paper on the desk. She nodded at Professor Shackleton then turned the paper over. She smiled when she saw the questions. She took out a spare piece of parchment for working and her quill and started working. She could hear the scratching of quills on parchment as everyone was working and put her head down. Working through the questions, a few stumped her but she over came it. Some included much working out so she was careful to show all her work so as to show she knows what she was doing. This was her favourite subject and the only one she really understood. The rest baffled her.

Looking at her paper, she smiled to herself. I think I've done everything right. she thought to herself. She put her quill back in her bag and picked up her paper. She walked up to the front of the room and placed the paper on the teacher's desk. "Thank you for everything, Professor Shackleton," she said as she smiled at the professor before leaving the room.
