Kay stepped hesitantly into her favorite teacher's office. She loved the way Professor Lainey taught her favorite subject. History was simply the most intruiging subject out there. She smiled tenatively and said, "I just wanted you to know that if there's anything you need, I'm available. And, that I love your classes. They're brilliant." she smiled her small smile and hoped for the best.

Amelia stopped just outside this next office, hesitating because she really despised History of Magic. Of course, she had heard such good things about the Professor from her brothers, and her lack of interest for the subject would not stop her from learning the material and trying her best. Oh yes, she would try hard and do very well.

Taking a deep breath, she knocked and opened the door, "Hello Professor Lainey. The name is Rose. Amelia Rose. I'm a second year Hufflepuff. You may remember my brothers from a few years ago; they've told me wonderful stories about you."

She smiled politely.

Kennedy spent her day exploring the castle, heading from one professor's office and classroom to the next, in an attempt to make herself confident that she wouldn't get lost and be late for classes when they started. So next on her list, and perhaps the most important stop of them all, was Professor Lainey's office. Kennedy was most anxious about meeting Professor Lainey because not only would she have her as History of Magic professor, but also as her head of house for Ravenclaw. Kennedy thought she should introduce herself to her HoH as soon as possible in order to start the year off on the right foot.

Kennedy knocked on the door to Professor Lainey's office and when acknowledged Kennedy said, "Hello Professor Lainey. My name is Kennedy Jennings and I am a first year Ravenclaw. I just wanted to introduce myself to you seeing as how you will both be my professor and my head of house. Also, I am bit curious; could you possibly tell me how long before classes officially get started? I'm wondering how much time I will have to read my textbooks prior to the start of lessons."

Kerry knocked on the door and peeked in to see Professor Lainey sitting by her desk.
"Excuse me professor, I just wanted to come in and say hello. I loved your class last term and can't wait for the classes to start this term. I've been reading up on muggle fairy tales over break, and you have certainly opened my eyes to things I have never thought about. I hope we'll be analyzing more of them this term," Kerry smiled - thinking back to last term and how she still has a hard time thinking about Beauty and the Beast in the same light she once did.

"Of course I remember you, Eliza. I can remember adding quite a few points to Gryffindor on account of you last term," Lainey smiled and stood to greet the young lady. "I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the classes last term. Hopefully, we can have just as much fun this term as well!" Lainey gave the girl a wink and tossed a peppermint her way.


"Good, you can take my babysitting duties that Rae has me doing on occassion. I love those girls, but did you know that babies are made of poop and tears? I swear, they are. I'll enlist your help the next time she puts me up for it, Kay!" Lainey laughed and also tossed her a peppermint.

"Oh no, Miss Amelia Rose. May I ask who your brothers were? I hope I never gave them detention!" Lainey was notorious for her detentions. "It's very good to meet you though, Miss Ameila Rose. Lovely, lovely name." Just like before, Lainey tossed a peppermint her way.

"Well, I'm very glad you stopped by my office, Miss Jennings. It's certainly a pleasure to meet a bright, new Ravenclaw. I expect only the best, you know!" Lainey tossed her a peppermint before answering her question. "It shouldn't be long now before classes start. I'm sure some of the more ... shall we say prepared... professors are ready to go now!" Lainey gave a glance to the messy stack of books and papers by her desk. She was certainly not one of those put-together professors at all times.

"Kerry!" Lainey exclaimed. "I am very, very pleased that you dropped in!" Lainey passed out the usual peppermint to the last girl and dropped back down into her seat. "I think there are a few more fairy tales for us to visit this term. Last term's fairy tale classes were, really too much fun not to try again this term. You students really, really impressed me with your ideas."

Taking the peppermint, Kerry said "Thank You," and sat down.

"More fairy tales? Really? I can't wait!" Kerry exclaimed.

"It's funny because as I've revisted fairy tales this summer, just thinking about this class. I've tried to look at them the way you do. I've twisted them every which way, pulling them apart in my mind, trying figure them out. I thought the hidden magic would be more appparent. But to be honest, it's not easy. I can't seem to find the obvious like you do. I think that's why I enjoy class so much. You challenge me to think in ways I never thought I could" Kerry blushed.

Kerry thought she'd try to probe and see if she could get a sneak peak at the upcoming class.

"So Professor, would it be too much to ask if you could give me any hints for the next fairy tale we'll be working on?" Kerry laughed, knowing the chances were quite slim, but she wanted to have something to look forward to.

Kennedy noticed that Professor Lainey glanced to her own belongings as she said some professors were less prepared than others and realized she was referring to herself. Although anxious for History of magic to start, Kennedy sympathized with the workload that Professor Lainey must have had, what with being head of Ravenclaw house AND a professor. And those are just her responsibilities at the school! Who knows what else is on her plate! Not wanting to take up anymore of Professor Lainey's time, Kennedy said "Thank you for your help Professor. I'm looking forward to your first class. See you then!" And with that said, Kennedy exited the office and headed up the corridor.

Nicnevin knocked on Proffesor Lainey's door. She figured that since she had missed the last 3 years of Hogwarts, she should get to know her teachers again. There was a possibility that her teachers would remember her, always disrupting class and being a general class clown. But she had done all he work, and got extremely high marks for her the amount of fooling around she had contributed.

She waited impatiently for a sign to enter the office. Manners have been drilled into her subconsious ever since she was a baby. Of course, with her parents dead now, there was no one to tell her how to act, but it was now considered habit.

Nic tied the black silk ribbon that was holding her blonde hair in a high ponytail tighter. She didn't want to appear to be a slob with a professor who may already dislike her. She took ina deep breathe, then entered the classroom.

"Good afternoon Professor, I am not sure if you remember me or not," she began. "I was at Hogwarts three years ago, for three years. I left to travel with my parent, but that didn't turn out so great. I just wanted to re-introduce myself, it having been so long." She stuck out her hand, expecting it to be shaken. "Nicnevin Rye, Sixth Year".

Amelia took the peppermint and popped it in her mouth. "Mmm... Thank you Professor. Well, my brothers had my last name, Rose." She laughed stupidly, thinking this would have been obvious. "First names are Andrew and Alex... They were tall, good looking quidditch players. Very smart, but like myself, had a knack for finding trouble." She winked innocently. "Anyway, sorry to be taking up too much of your time, but it was lovely to meet you too... erm, can I call you Lainey?"

Rachel hesitantly stepped into the professor's office. After being late to class. she was worried of it happening again. "Um, hello professor. When is the class going to start?"

Josey knocked on the door and stepped in, hoping that was what she was supposed to do. She smiled. "Hello, Professor," she said. "Did you have a good vacation between terms?" Her smiled turned into a grin as she remembered her own break, which she had spent with her cousins. "I hope this term's going to have as many fun History classes as last term," she added excitedly.

Lainey laughed and looked around the room to see who was listening. "Would you believe me if I said I hadn't really decided yet? I know a few I want to touch on, but I haven't put my thumb on any one in particular for our first class." Lainey so loved this great Gryffindor. It was a shame she wasn't in her Lainey's own House. She was brilliant and loved the challenge of a good fairy tale break down. Lainey loved this girl!


"Nice of you to drop by, Kennedy! I'll see you in class soon I hope!"

"Nicnevin Rye, Sixth year," Lainey repeated. "That's quite a strong name, hun. I'm glad to see you've made a return." Lainey squinted trying to recall her exactly. But, then... three terms ago, sadly, Lainey wasn't exactly in the right frame of mind. Was Lainey ever actually in the right frame of mind? It was certainly questionable. "All newcomers, even those returning newcomers, get a peppermint." Lainey tossed the Slytherin a peppermint and threw in a grin to her. "I think you'll be glad to be back."


"Nothing wrong with a bit of trouble here and there. Why.. when Rae and I were....,"Lainey just grinned, knowing better than to take a trip down memory lane and bore these poor kids to death with old stories. "Well, you may call me Lainey, yes. But, when there are other Professors about how about you call me Professor? I know, calling me Professors sounds crazy even to me. I can't believe they give me that title, but Lainey will do in class with me."

"Soon, my dear! Very soon!" Lainey launched a peppermint her way. "This week, I'd wager."


"Hey, Josey! Go long!" Lainey hurled her a peppermint much like she was throwing a Quaffle. "I had a great vacation, thanks. I babysat. It was interesting." Lainey pondered those babies and what they were possibly up to that very instant. "I hope we have as much fun as we did last term, too. Though... it will be hard to beat!"

Kerry smiled, "I do believe you, actually. I know you professors have lives outside the classrooms, too. So I can understand last minute preperation. I thought it was worth the try. It just gives me more reason to get to class on time and build the anticipation for class," Kerry winked as she laughed. "I can't wait, I hope it will be soon. My brain's swimming in fairy tale characters, I just hope I don't mix them all up." Kerry laughed some more.

Nikki Knocked on the doo and walked in slowly. She saw her professor sitting by her desk. "Hi Professor. I just wanted to pop in before class started, to see how you were. I really enjoyed your classes and im looking forwards to another term of great classes. I can always let my creativity flow in your classes." Nikki laughed as she remembed the fun classes she had last term.

Lainey had to laugh out loud. Lives? What on earth was that?! Lainey was just simply indecisive; she didn't have a life. 'How humorous!' she thought. "I think it would do you a great deal of good to come to class early. You know me... I always like to bring something to class for us to play with. So, getting there early might clue you in a bit."



"Nikki! Good to see you! I'm glad you decided to pop in and I think you should pop in often." Lainey bombed a peppermint her way. "I'm looking foward to class, too. I really am. If I have students like you in my class again, I just can't go wrong. You lot barely even need me! So smart, really."

Kerry smiled, "I can definitely do that! Even just a peek into what we're doing will have my the wheels in my mind going, which I think will result in a much more productive class. Just ask my friends, I'm quite the interesting little thing when I get going" Kerry laughed. "I keep them laughing and on their toes all the time, but it's helpful in your class, as you really do need to think outside the box to understand the witches and wizards we study."

Josey caught the peppermint in surprise and looked at it for a moment. She had just had five tic-tacs, so she didn't think she would be able to handle more minty flavor at that moment. Putting the peppermint in her pocket, she grinned. "Thanks. But you always do seem to beat the term before," she said. She looked at her watch and sighed; she would have to leave soon, but there was time for a nice conversation first. "I can't wait till our first class, Professor," she said. "Are you allowed to tell me what we'll be learning?"

Em hearing voices inside went in "Hello proffessor I'm Em Folly I just wanted too say hi and introduce myself before turm and that I find History can be fun with the right teacher" oops she thought too herself i hope that came out right she had a tendency too say things the opposite of what she ment

Kay caught the peppermint and smiled. "Any time, Professor." She popped the mint into her mouth as she walked out of the office.

Nikki accepted the peppermint and smiled at the compliment. "Thank you professor. Of course it does help when we have such a great professor. It is also good to be in a class full of bright students. It really helps the class as one's intellect can go around the room. Any hints on what we are covering this term?" She asked curiously, being very eager to start some of the work.

Aurora stopped my and wanted to say hello to the Professor "Good day porfessor. I am Aurora 2nd yr ravenclaw. I am looking forward to you class . I have a knowlegede of Old magic taught to me through my family. MOre of an earth based magic. so if you need from that, please let me know"

Lainey narrowed her eyes at the whole group. "You all really want to know what we're going to be up to, bad, huh?" Lainey got up and cirlced around to her bookcase. She plucked a book she'd borrowed from a student last term and brought it back to her desk, randomly opening it to a page. "Ohh...Yes. Yes, of course." She closed the book back quickly. "We'll have class today. I know exactly what we'll be doing now." Lainey grinned and returned the book back to its place. "The only clue I'll give you is this: We will not be having class in our usual classroom."

Lainey was wicked for that tease, but she got to move on quickly when a new students arrived. "Em Folly and Aurora. Beautiful names for beautiful girls! It's nice to meet you both! Em, I hope you find History with me to be... fun. And, dear Aurora that sounds fascinating! You'll have to tell me more about it later! Let's go get class ready now, though."

Lainey gave the group a wicked grin. "See you all in class soon," Lainey opened the door for the whole group and hurried off to her classroom.

Maya rapped her knuckles a couple times and peeked in. " Hello? Professor Lainey? " she asked, and paraded in. The office had a familiar scent of... Old furniture? Or maybe cooked eggs. She couldn't tell. She played with her (currently) violet guitar strap. She had lent the Professor her Ancient story books last year and couldn't remember if she had gotten them back or not. Most likely not, though, seeing as her suitcase didn't scream, ' I'm too stuffed! Get these darned books outta me!!! '

Once again, it was time for some History! Lainey had a red wagon full of what appeared to be blue turnips. She pulled the wagon along behind her and opened her classroom door. She used the wagon to prop the door open.

Lainey waited on her students to arrive. Each student was to take a turnip on their way in, so Lainey waited by the wagon to make sure they got one.
