Madame Rowena's Office

*Thinking that you know far too little about you resident librarian you come into her office which before had been just another room for books. She has a large cherry wood desk and the walls seem like they are made out of bookshelves because you can hardly see any wall behind them. An oak ladder leans against one of the bookshelves and runs along the rail magically as certain books come off the shelves and others are replaced with an invisible hand as the ladder passes. Books are scattered all about the floors in large stacks but as you move towards Madame Rowena's desk you arrive at two large leather chairs in front of her desk. Along the bookshelves behind her desk however you see many pictures suspended mid-air without frames. Many are of the librarian on her expeditions during her holiday. The one that catches you eye; however, is where Madame Rowena is standing next to a cave wall where an ancient family tree is displayed. Away from her pictures frames you see a swirling pensive and numerous jeweled books in a glass cabinet behind her desk. You see that a brass lock holds the cabinet closed and look away in order to not attract attention to yourself. On her desk, a large scroll has been rolled out and books used are used paper weights to keep the scroll from curling. The scroll seems completely black, but as you look through the magnifying glass suspended in the air; you see very ancient scriptures and symbols from ancient wizarding books. At this very moment Madame Rowena comes through the door and is excited to see her first visitor*

"Hello! How are you today? I was just doing some research on the four founders of Hogwarts, a particular hobby of mine. Please come in, is there anything in particular I can help you with?” says Madame Rowena with great warmth.

Erin shyly stepped into the librarian's office. She had never been there before. "Hello," she said. "I was wondering if you needed any help around the library. You know, like putting books back on shelves or something like that?" she asked. Erin stood quietly, smiling slightly while waiting for Madame Rowena's response. She really wanted to find a professor that she could help out in some way to earn points for Gryffindor.

MadameRowena 04-23-2006 08:57 PM

"It's nice to meet you Erin," greets Madame Rowena. "I really appreciate your offer for help but currently the shelves are magically set to sort and replace books themselves. Thus, I am not usually in too much need of extra student help since magic seems to work wonders in a place this large. However, I will keep you in mind for anything that I might have that pops up where magic is not sufficient. In the meantime, the best way to obtain your house points is attending classes and finishing your homework. I really do appreciate your offer though so I will award your house 2 points," she states warmly.

ErinElizabeth 04-23-2006 09:01 PM

Erin was a bit disappionted about not getting to help out in the library, but she was happy about earning 2 points. "Okay, thanks!" she said. Erin turned towards the door. "Bye, thank you," she said before leaving.

Meghan walked into Madame Rowena's office looking around. She smoothed out her skirt and tucked the loose strands of hair behind her ears. She pulled out a quill and some parchment and knocked on the door.

MadameRowena 04-29-2006 03:15 PM

*Madame Rowena hears a knock at the door and looks up from her parchment*

"Please come in," she announces.

HPCHAMP101 04-29-2006 03:35 PM

Meghan walked into the office slowly. She was looking around at the walls which were covered with books on the bookshelves. She smiled inwardly feeling as if she were in heaven.

She looked up at Madame Rowena and said, "Hello Madame Rowena, my name is Meghan Champ and i'm a member of the SS Quill. I am doing an article about the different activities you can do outside of the classroom and I was wondering if I could interview you about the Book Club?"

Meghan spoke in a quite sort of voice which instantly showed the nerves she had tried so hard to hide. She wasn't sure whether she should sit down so she stayed where she was.

MadameRowena 04-30-2006 12:11 AM

"Hello Meghan," she says getting up to shake Meghan's hand.

"Please take a seat, make yourself comfortable" she says gesturing towards a large chair in front of her desk as they both walk in that direction. Madame Rowena listens to Meghan and nods her head.

"Ah, the SS Quill, I really enjoyed the last issue. It was most informative to new students from what I heard. I would be happy to assist you in an article for extracurricular activities here at Hogwarts. The Book Club is bustling with a lot of activity this term and it is quite exciting. Many students here are passionate about muggle works and I highly support that idea that the magical community should be exposed to them. It is also very comforting to have an atmosphere where we can all discuss them," she states.

HPCHAMP101 04-30-2006 12:44 AM

Meghan sat down. The chairs were extremly comfortable, she noticed right away. She listened patiently to Madame Rowena talk. She had bewitched her quill to take the notes down for her so she was free to talk.

"So where exactly does the book club meet?" Meghan asked. She knew it was a basic question, but this was to inform the students so they could get involved at school so she didn't mind being a little basic.

MadameRowena 04-30-2006 04:52 PM

*Madame Rowena watches on as Meghan sets up her journalism apparatus before proceeding on to answer her question*

"The Book Club meets in front of the largest fireplace in the library, at the back of the library. Our sessions are once a week and are usually on Wednesday evenings though this can change depending on what events are occuring in the school," she states.

HPCHAMP101 04-30-2006 06:24 PM

Meghan nodded and glanced over to make sure the quill was getting it all down. It was so she forged on.

"How long have you had a book club here?" She had attended a few times last year and a couple times this year, but she wondered if it was started long before that.

MadameRowena 05-01-2006 12:58 AM

*Madame Rowena ponders the question for a moment*

"From what I remember this is the second year that it has been in existence," she states.

HPCHAMP101 05-01-2006 01:12 AM

Meghan nodded. So it was started when she was there. "Do you usually have a good turnout of students?" From what she remembered it was a yes. This year they seemed more involved though.

MadameRowena 05-01-2006 01:47 AM

"There is usually a very decent turnout of students. However, you are correct in stating that this term there is more activity than usual. Our rather intimate wednesday evenings have turned into quite the events from what I gather," she states.

HPCHAMP101 05-04-2006 11:42 PM

Meghan nodded and than checked her parchment again to make sure the quill got everything right. "Ok only a couple more. Do you have any goals for this club? And do you think this club is beneficial to the students.?" Meghan coughed and than smiled.

MadameRowena 05-05-2006 05:42 AM

"My main goals for this club is just to create a safe and inviting atmosphere where students can discuss their favorite muggle texts. I know there are many students here who have never been exposed to muggle literature and it is something that should not be missed! Literature is something that should not have boundaries between magical and non-magical people and I wish to break those boundaries down with the book club. We must understand that good texts can come in a variety of forms, no matter who it is written by. Thus, all bias must be placed aside and we have to read and appreciate literature like art. In saying that, I think it is extremely beneficial for students to join the book club. It is a great chance for students to meet friends who have the same book interests. Also, any chance to be exposed to new and exciting texts and priceless. A influence of a good book is lifechanging and if I can get students to share those experiences with others so that they can feel the same way, then I have done my job well."

HPCHAMP101 05-05-2006 11:29 PM

Meghan watched the quill writing furiously across the parchment. She gave a small chuckle. When she was sure it was done she turned back to the professor and gave her a big smile. "Ok, last question. Are there any rules or anything that you would like to inform the students about?"

MadameRowena 05-06-2006 06:56 AM

"Hmmm, some specific rules are that we strictly discuss muggle texts. As much as I love magical ones I feel like we cover them enough in our studies here and it is nice to try something else. We welcome new members at anytime and there is no official signup of any sort. Other than that, I just like students to have a good idea of how they want to present their favorite texts and provide as many details as possible without ruining the book," she states.

HPCHAMP101 05-07-2006 06:17 PM

Meghan nodded smiled brightly. She put her things back into her backpack and stood up saying, "Thank you so much for meeting with me. It was a pleasure." She stuck out her hand to shake.

MadameRowena 05-08-2006 05:21 AM

*Madame Rowena rises from her seat and shakes Meghan's hand graciously*

"It was lovely speaking to you Meghan, and all the best in writing your article. I cannot wait to read it," she says with a smile.

A small brown owl flutters up to the office and drops a tiny envelope on the desk.

Dear Staff,

You are invited to a surprise party for Mr. Andrew McAiken and Headmistress Rae! Keep it a secret and bring a small engagement gift. See you in the Staff room, Friday evening.

*Madame Rowena enters her office and notices a small envelope on her desk*

"Hmmm, this must have just arrived, I didn't see anything here this morning," she says to herself. The envelope opens itself with a tap of her wand and the message unravels itself mid air. She reads the message and smiles. "I should go out and get a gift for them."

Phoebe knocked on the door. She hears a warm "come in" So openes the door and walks in. "hello Madame Rowena" Phoebe says smiling. "Do you remember me? I'm Phoebe" She said not waiting for a reply. "I'm not sure if your the righht one to talk to but you seem to know so much. I was wondering if you could help me find a career that I might like?" She asked. "If you can't don't worry. You lent me this book" She said showing the Librarian The complete guide to careers.

"Also I would just like a chat" Shje said a little embarresed. Not wanting to be a teachers pet, ut she found the Librarien very interesting.

MadameRowena 06-07-2006 02:17 PM

"Hello Phoebe, it is nice to see you again," says Madame Rowena clearly remembering who she is. "Please come take a seat, I would be delighted to have a chat with you and offer you what information I have," she states.

lavoni 06-09-2006 10:14 PM

Phoebe sat down on one of the comfy chairs. "I am interested in herbology, care of magical creatures and charms mostly. What do you think would be a good job to look into?" She asked.

While the librarian was thinking she realised she had been so rude so addded "How are you?"
