The door to the potions classroom is swinging open with a slight breeze from the corridor. Professor Branxton is nowhere in sight but, you file into the room and begin to get your things ready. Upon the teacher's deak at the front of the classroom is an ominous black sheet with lumps poking up from it. As you take your seat, you wonder what the professor might have in store for the class today. | |

Linnea walked into the potions class and was only mildly surprised that Branxton was not there. hmph. She wandered the class momentarily wondering where he would keep the love potion, then realised he would probably hide that in his office. She sighed and took a seat, taking out supplies for class.

Professor Branxton walked into the classroom. He was still completely out of sorts. Instead of being able to relax and get over the whole insane Lainey thing, he had some student come in reminding him of how 'attractive' he is, bringing the whole Loony Lainey thing back up. He could not wait for the weekend to arrive when he could go down to Hogsmeade and lose himself for a little while. Maybe he should think about going alone instead of with Cassandra....
He shook his head. It was time to start his class. He took of his glasses as he stood up and walked to the front of the desk to address the class. After polishing them with the hankerchief he'd received from the Hufflepuff student, he held the glasses up to the candlelight to inspect them before putting them back on the bridge of his nose. He pushed them the rest of the way up with his forefinger before starting to speak. "Good afternoon, class. We probably won't have time to brew anything today but, I believe this class will be both informative and exciting, regardless," he said and then, with a bit of a flourish, he removed the black sheet from over the contents of his desk.
Upon the desk were several different items. There was a very small vial with what looked like a few drops of mercury. There was also a small bundle of white hair, a chunk of gold, and a spiral silver horn. "The contents of this desk are worth more than your lives. Can anyone tell me what they are?"

Linnea noticed the frustrated appearance of Branxton, I guess Lainey is over reacting to the love potion....oh well. One gets what one deserves....
She thought, then examined the material on the desk. She raised her hand, "gold, and unicorn hair and horn" she suggested, thinking that the gold may be a bit too simplistic. What is it with teachers and gold this term??

"Yes, you are correct. All of these items come from a unicorn." He picked up the small vial with what looked like mercury in his right hand and the lump of 'gold' with his left. "Two of the more rare items are unicorn blood, which I hold in my right hand and unicorn hoof, which I hold in my left. The other two items remaining on the table are of course unicorn hair and the horn of a unicorn. We won't be brewing any potions in this class here at Hogwarts which require any of these ingredients but, I believe it is an important part of your education to discuss the uses of these things. Any idea why we don't brew potions which require unicorn parts in them here at school?"
As he began to get into the rhythm of teaching, the trials of the past few hours drained away from his mind. Doyle never thought that teaching would become an escape for him as the students had tended to put him on edge last term. He never would have dreamed that he'd actually come to enjoy this job and see it as a way to relieve stress.

Gaby looks at the items on Professor Braxton's desk with interst. She had never seen a unicorn before, so seeing pieces of one excites her. Gaby also wants to ask Professor Braxton how Professor Lainey is doing. Crup bite are generally not fatal or really cause much harm, but Professor Lainey had gotten so excited about it. Gaby is concerned if something might be seriously wrong with the professor. Seeing as class is in full swing, she decides to wait until it's over to ask the professor about it. | |

Adrienne thought unicorns were Muggle myth, so she regarded todays lesson in awe. She picked up the items, one at a time, and held them like they were newborn babies. She barely had the capacity to take notes, but nevertheless she snapped back to reality and got out her quill and parchment, and took notes.
