ooc: That's what I am doing. I'm running between the computer and the TV.

"I'm willing to duel with anyone, " she replied shortly to the Professor and waited for anyone else who wanted to volunteer to duel with her.

Scanning the room, she noticed that Nadia was still practicing her wand movement. Frowning, she gave her a look, and tried to make eye contact with her. Although, that was rather hard considering that she had her back to Alex. ACK.

Finally noticing that Nadia put up her hand, Alex did also.

"Alright, Nadia. Come up and join Alex. You're both encouraged to try out a water bottle before you aim at each other." Rae held up her hands with wide eyes. "Wait... what bit of information are we missing before we start?"

Zekke found an old rickety chair in the corner that had been unused for quite some time and aimed and cast Glacies Transeo on it. The first time, it didn't quite do anything, the second time, he could see a bluey white glow and a sort of... mist? Must be because of the wood in the desk...

He was about to undo the charm when...

"Professor! Uhmmm... how do we do the Thawing charm?"

"Sounds good to me," she said, shrugging. Slowly, she walked up and grabbed a water bottle but was suddenly interupted by Professor Rae's voice once again. ACK, now she realized what they were missing.

"Erm, Professor, how --?" But before she could finish her sentence, Zekke was asking the question already. She listened intently for Rae's answer. This was something they definetely needed to know.

Nadia nodded, taking the water bottle but never the less approaching Alex for when they would have to use it on each other. Ugh, not nice. Then the professor came with a question. She pondered it had to do with security messures...

It was probably that one, that they didn't know how to reverse it. OR was it the triangle movement. She raised her hand, "I have a question if we should do the triangle shape going up first or going to the right side."

Rae smiled. "I'm glad we remembered. The incantation is Fervefacio (Fer-vay-fa-see-o). Move your wand back and forth in three short flicks. Left, right, left, only about two inches apart. Make the flick sharply, as if you're rapping it on a surface. And Zekke... I'd prefer you use a water bottle."

Rae demonstrated the motion again. "Left, up, and right."

"Fervefacio!" Zekke commanded, his wand making the short left right left flicks as he aimed solidly.

The blue glow disappeared, thankfully, and he gave the professor a sheepish and apologetic grin. "Apologies, professor, didn't realize you had water bottles for us to practice on."

He hurried over and collected two water bottles - one for him and one for Jen - and returned to where Jen was standing. He set one bottle down next to her and then returned to his dueler's stance.

He practiced on his bottle of water a few more times and a few moments later, he spoke to Jen.

"I'm going to cast it on you, now," he warned her and aimed carefully at her arm.

"Glacies Transeo!"

His wand made the sharp and distinct left, up, and right motions as he incanted.

Default I gotta go. *pouts* Nadia, feel free to cast a spell on Alex if want.

Alex listened very carefully and watched intently Professor Rae demonstrated the wand movement and prounounced the Thawing Charm. Nodding Alex clutched the wand in her hand tightly and muttered the spell over and over under her breath. the wand movement, well, it was a bit complicated, but once you got the hang of it, it was easy.

Left, up and right. Left, up and right. Sharp flicks at each point. She stared at the bottle for a few seconds, and repeated the spell once again, inside her head.Glacies Transeo. Well, at least she never had a problem with pronouncing the incantations, so I guess that was an advantage.

With a short deep breath, Alex pointed at the water bottle in front of her. " Glacies Transeo!" she said, in a low murmur. The water in the water bottle in front of her instantly froze. But then again, so did the bottle itself. Frowning, Alex stared up at the Professor. "Is the bottle itself supossed to freeze as well, Professor?"

Ah! There it was. Nadia copied the motion, first muttering 'left, up right' on the water bottle, then making sharp kind of flicks, to the point her hand looked like a little mouse looking for food. Weird sounding but true.

Just as she kept doing this movement, all the time ointing the water bottle in the floor, she started with the spoken part and commanded, "Glacies Transeo," first time, which she mispronunced and sounded more like thanks in Spanish. Another time, but it was more like muttered, and yet another time -- this time the spell shot as it had been ringing on her head. Another non-vb spell.

Nadia gulped... if she didn't control that better she was going to get into serious troubles. That she thought as she oggled at the side of the bottle which had been hit, seemly nearly exploding, that with the expansion of water.

"Yes... if you cast it correctly, the bottle is small enough that the whole thing should freeze. And explode. Try hitting it again if it doesn't. Anyone else is welcome to come for a bottle to practice on."

Nadia kept staring at the frozen side of the water bottle before raising her wand to try again. But then it dawned on her. This would be the best time to have the conutercurse practiced. She commanded, "Fervefacio!" while she made a movement much alike she was striking down a line in her notes.

The spell worked all right. In fact, maybe because she was used to the wand-movement, it came off easily. Besides, she was less nervous. Frowning in thought, Nadia turned to the professor, "What does Fervefacio stands for, professor?"

"It's the incantation to thaw the spell. Actually, it works on other frozen objects as well, and can occasionally be used as a warming charm. I wouldn't recommend it, though."

Nadia mouthed and 'ah', then shook her head. "I was meaning the etymology, what does the word means or is it from? Glacies might stand for glaciare, Latin for the verb 'freeze'. But I don't know what the other word means, or what Fervefacio means?"

She hopped this time she had been clearer, and idly wondered if to warm the bottle up she could use Chaudensis... Probably not, Chaudensis was probably too 'light' a spell to fight the Glacies spell before the 20 hours were up.

ooc: Because I don't want to get into trouble for having Jen's arm frozen off and for lagging in time, I'm going to have Zekke go ahead and pretend the spell worked and thaw Jen's arm, okay? Jen, it's your turn.

Zekke watched as the spell hit, the telltale blueish white glow telling him that the spell had worked.

"Fervefacio!" He commanded, aiming squarely as he flicked left right and left again.

It seemed that her arm thawed and he nodded, satisfied.

"Your turn," he held out his non-wand arm to be frosted and thawed.

ooc: Apologies if my appearance is sporadic. I'm working on a paper for class, so my attention is a little preoccupied.

"I suppose that loosely translated, Glacies Transeo means 'ice over' and Fervefacio means 'to thaw' from Latin roots, but not all spells have a predicatable or traceable etymology."

ooc: Still here... wandering in and out. Play on.

"Ah," Nadia said, nodding to show she had understood. Who would have thought the word was indeed 'thaw'? "Fervefacio!" she tried again, to make sure the water was indeed and completely unfreezed. What's more, when she reached the water bottle next, it was actually kind of warm. Shaking her head with a little smile she tried again.

"Glacies Transeo!" she commanded, the spell shoot with the last flick of the third triangle and it hit the bottle -- without knowing what happened when it happened, the bottle suddenly contracted at the time the water expanded and then -- BAM! The explosion. The bits of ice flew everywhere - she just hopped it hadn't reached anybody in the eye.

Good moment to thank the glasses.

Karen practices the wand motions for Glacies Transeo and Fervefacio, making sure that she had them down. It would be quite embarrassing not to know how to perform the spells if she volunteered.

Peony ducked the slivers of flying ice, rudely called back to the present. She had been daydreaming about... well, nevermind what she had been daydreaming about. I know! I know! said the Voice gleefully.

Peony ignored it/her/him. The Voice seemed to slide from childish to cynical to cranky to just plain cracked in a matter of minutes. It's none of your business, and you can't tell even if you do know.

She brushed melting water from her face and robes. "What next, professor?" she called out. "Do the rest of us get a try too?"

ooc: Aaaakkk.

Jaren got up to practice the spell on a bottle of water at Rae's suggestion, though first deciding on the wand movement and incantation separately so he would master them both. Botched spells tended to be...rather...well...you get the idea.

Grinning sheepishly at the classmates, Nadia went over to fetch a new bottle. Hopefully she could make it 'explode' - after all, that was what they were suppossed to be doing, no? - but without the blasting. That could just go. Uh.

She turned to other people as she returned to her position with new new glass. Still not confident in using it on humans / the living (mind, she did want! In the end... a little later. It wasn't true practice without knowing the practical use, right?). So now it was going to be bottles and -- Wait a minute. If the bottle exploded, as it was due... how they would make it to practice the counter-curse Fervefasio?

Blinking at the sudden idea, she had gone immovile. Then she raised her head, though her eyes didn't leave the bottle, and casted, "Glacius Transeo!" with the three sharp-edged triangles clockwise and a spell shoot from the wand, hitting the bottle but in fact missing all of it. She had missed on purpose to be able to perform the countercurse, like she did before. But in all honesty, the bottle looked like it was about to burst anyways.

Default Dude. You are not a Faerie anymore. XD! *dances*

With a blank stare on her face, Alex nodded at the Professor and tried the spell on the bottle once again. But of course, she had to thaw it first. She pointed her wand directly at the bottle, and just as she was about to mutter the spell, she heard a rather loud sound coming from somewhere close to her.

With a small squeal, she jumped backwards, and looked around with wide eyes. Nadia ad been able to make the bottle explde. Whew, at least it was just that. And also the fact that she was extremley jumpy at times did not help with all. Shaking her head, she returned her gaze back on the water bottle.

"Fervefacio!" she commanded and the spell hit the water bottle directly. A few seconds later, the bottle was once again filled with water. Well, the Thawing Charm had gone over relatively well. There was no point in going and grabbing another water bottle, so she decided to perform the spell on the same water bottle.

"Glacies Transeo!" she muttered under her breath. Once again the bottle instantly froze over and suddenly there was a rather loud noise and the bottle exploded into tiny pieces that flew accross the room. She turned around and made sure that no one got hurt.

Walking over to Nadia, she stared while she was trying to perform the spell on the second bottle. Well, while she was doing that, it would be a good idea for Alex to try it again over. Slowly, she strolled over to where the water bottles were but stopped in her tracks. "Wait -- but Professor Rae, if the spell makes the water bottle explode -- well, can't it make your arm or whatever you cast the spell on explode as well?" she asked, anxiously.

Gulping with more hesitancy than she would've liked to show, Erica got up and grabbed herself a water bottle from the professor's desk and shuffled back to her seat, content with just staring at it for the longest time. She was worried that she would make a majestic display of stupidity in front of the whole class and her thoughts had some merit. She couldn't remember anything that was actually useful from DADA at all.

Now don't worry, she thought, trying to push back the thoughts of fear from her head. All you gotta do is exactly what Professor Rae said and you'll be fine. Oh, yeah. And keep hold of your wand this time. You don't want what happened in Charms last term to happen again, do you? Biting back the urge to laugh, she fondly remembered that Charms class from last year. She had partnered up with Llew and subsequently lost hold of her wand, resulting in him crashing to the floor and snapping his wand in two. No, she most definitely would not like that to happen again.

She stood and faced her bottle, ready to attempt it when an explosion knocked her out of her mind state. Frantically looking around, she saw Nadia looking extremely embarassed at the scene she had caused. After making sure that she knew what the cause of that was, Erica turned her attention back to the bottle, breathing in and out deeply and trying to maintain some sort of focus and control. A few moments later, she felt ready enough to start and grasped her wand tightly, pointing it directly at the bottle on her desk.

"Glacies Transeo!"

The first attempt yielded no result whatsoever. The bottle remained the same as when she had picked it up from the professor's desk. Muttering to herself, Erica tried it a second time. Still nothing. The third time was the charm, producing a light bit of mist from the the bottle for a few seconds, before stopping. Eagerly, she walked up to the desk and examined her bottle. Beside the small amount of mist that had occurred seconds before, the bottle remained largely unchanged. Oy, she thought. This is going to take a while.
