Since it's the first day of they year 2012, I'll start with the New Year greeting.

Happy New Year! - Maligayang Bagong Taon!

Have fun with the 2012 Year of the Dragon and greet your friends with this phrase!

Good day. - Magandang araw.

This phrase can be used of course, in the day, when the sun is still shining in the wide blue sky. When greeting elders, you put "po or ho" in the end of the sentence. Such as, "Magandang araw po" or "Magandang araw ho". That is how to say it politely, though it is only advisable to use it when talking to older people than yourself.

How are you? - Kumusta ka?

Actually, it's either "kumusta" or "kamusta", whichever suits you. But then again, the origin of the word is como estas so I guess sticking with "kumusta" is better.

Good morning. - Magandang umaga.

Since I just woke up and well, it's morning. Here's a Filipino phrase you can use to greet your family and friends as you welcome the warm sunshine. Magandang umaga!

Good noon. - Magandang tanghali.

Yeah, because it's already noon here. And yes, we have greetings for morning, noon, afternoon and evening.

Anyway, have a healthy noon meal to you!

Thank you. - Salamat.

I know this would be helpful. Yes, the Filipino equivalent of thank you is only a three syllable word. Though if you say Thank You to one person alone, you could also say "Salamat sa iyo" since "sa iyo" refers directly to one person.

Good afternoon. - Magandang hapon..

Afternoon here! Around 3:38 PM and it's hot. Hmpf.

Anyway, another phrase that you can use to greet your friends and family a good afternoon.

Good evening. - Magandang gabi.

Uh-huh. You guessed it right! It's already evening here and yes, the sun did set like two hours ago.

And here's more to it. Here in the Philippines, we don't have a direct Filipino equivalent for "good night" but we stick with using "magandang gabi" as its equivalent. So, "magandang gabi" can both be used when saying good evening as a greeting and good night when you're about to go to sleep or leaving.

Pleasure to meet you. - Ikinagagalak kitang makilala.

Why this? Because I've got a new friend and I told her this.

So. When you say "It's a pleasure to meet you" or "Nice to meet you", in Filipino you can say "Ikinagagalak kitang makilala" or its inverted form which is "Ikinagagalak kong makilala ka".

I am beautiful. - Ako ay maganda.

You might laugh but i really feel beautiful everyday. And i want you all to feel the same way. You can also say in a simpler way "Maganda ako." That's just another way of saying it. So go feel free to brag to the world you are Beautiful.

You/They are beautiful. - Ikaw/Kayo ay maganda.

And if you feel like telling people they are beautiful you can just use that phrase. You can say in another form, "Maganda ka/kayo." Now, spread the word and make everyone feel beautiful.

I love you, too. - Mahal rin kita.

I just want to tell someone that phrase but it's not right so i'll just share it here. When you want to your loved ones to feel more love tell them those phrases.

My name is ____ - Ang pangalan ko ay _____

Hmm.. As you can see, we're into introducing one's self now. So first, when you want to say what your name is in Filipino.

Let me cite an example. Ang pangalan ko ay Gladys. Uh-huh. I just gave you my real name though I love it more when you guys call me Tazzie.

Here you go, how to say goodbye in Filipino. Paalam! I'll be going out for a while. Be back in a few! Take care..

Take Care. - Mag-ingat ka.

Okay, we normally use this when saying goodbye to other people. Telling them to be careful while they're away.

Now, here's the switch about that. Saying "Mag-ingat ka" means "Take care". However, since the word "ka" is present it only refers to one person, only refers to the person you're talking to. If you want to say it to two or more than, change "ka" into "kayo". So, you'd be saying "Mag-ingat kayo". Yet, if you're feeling shorty, you can just say "Ingat!" and that would apply to one or more than people.

I'm hungry. - Nagugutom ako.

So, I haven't posted here in ages. So sorry! Anyway. The phrase for today is "Nagugutom Ako" which means "I'm hungry". Yeah, I really am. It's almost 6 AM here and my school bus should arrive soon and I haven't eaten anything! So..yeah. Well..that phrase could also be revised into "Ako'y nagugutom" And it would still have the same meaning.

What happened? - Anong nangyari?

Yeap. That how you say what happened on Filipino. That's kinda the short version. But if you would like to imply demand, you can say, "Ano ba ang nangyari?" It means the same but using "ba" demands attention from your listeners.

And so sorry about posting just now.

If you guys want to know more phrases. Please feel free to post on this thread and I'd be happy to assist.
