Default Finders, Keepers

Is anyone around Diagon Alley missing a niffler? Because there's a certain eleven-year-old wandering around the London wizarding street who seems to have been lucky enough (or perhaps just resourceful enough) to get their hands on one. This can't be good, right? Merlin only knows what kind of misadventures will be had if such a creature was to suddenly be set loose on the denizens of the Alley...

Maybe keep your loose change and shiny jewellery well hidden, just in case, hm?

OOC: This RP is open to anyone; everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in. There are no limitations on characters' ages or backgrounds either - if it feels like it makes sense to play your character here, then go on ahead. If you play multiple characters in this thread, be sure to differentiate them with different fonts and/or font colours. Please post your characters' bios here (existing bios in other threads are also okay) and link them in your first post, and keep in mind that this RP takes place in Summer 2099 in Diagon Alley.

18. “It’s a niffler. I found it, and I’m keeping it.” Use this sentence as inspiration for your RP. Where did your character find a niffler and what kind of mischief will it cause? Will your character get in trouble for having one or for the destruction it creates?

Nemesis Upstead had robbed a bank.

Well. Kind of. Maybe. The niffler had certainly been lingering in that part of the street, and Nem thought it likely that they employed more than one niffler there. Or probably not employed, as it was unlikely that they got paid or anything, but still. Hadn't Uncle Dale once mentioned something about how he knew a goblin who had a niffler and that actually it was fairly common practice for them, especially Gringotts goblins?

The details didn't matter. The point was, Nem had a niffler now. They'd found it, and they were keeping it. It was compensation for the fact that they weren't old enough to buy a kneazle, and that neither of their parents would go in and get one for them. Also? A niffler would be great at finding galleons and sickles and expensive shiny things that could probably be sold on for a lot of money. If the fact that all of Nem and Pax's school things - bar their wands - had been hand-me-downs or bought secondhand (at least) had told them anything, it was that some foraged gold would be very good to have in the near future.

Speaking of Pax and Mum and Dad, Nem had no idea where any of them were right now. They had slipped away from the family as soon as they'd seen the niffler, determined as they were to claim it for themself. Now, Nem was walking said niffler down Diagon Alley; they had pulled out one of their shoelaces and fashioned it into a sort of harness and lead, just until the creature got used to them and knew who it needed to return to when it found its piles of gold later down the line.

Or perhaps not that much later at all. Nem was impatient, in the sense that they were easily irritated, yes, but also in the sense that they did not like waiting. That also applied to right here, right now, with the niffler and all the possible gold they could acquire with it. If it was going to be of any use in that department, now was the time to find out, while they were around crowds and crowds of people in the wizarding street. Lots of money. Lots of valuables.

Nem crouched down on one knee, and held out a hand to their new niffler, to get it even more used to their scent. The creature snuffled around their palm and investigated the spaces between their fingers, showing enough interest that Nem felt fairly confident it would return to them. And, if it didn't? Well, they'd just catch it again.

What? Like it was hard?

With that thought in mind, Nem unhooked the makeshift harness from around its body, and gave the small creature a couple of two-finger pets on the top of its silky head. "Okay," they said, pointing off to a nearby crowd of shoppers. "Come back when you've got something."

And off the niffler went.
