Entry 1, August 11

...

Well, this is stupid. I don’t even know why I got this. Passed by a stupid muggle shop and picked up this stupid notebook. I think it was so I would irritate my father. I like doing that. Well, I thought getting a stupid muggle item and actually using it will irritate the stupid beard off his face. So here I am, writing in this stupid thing.

So...yeah, whatever, I’ll just do the usual ‘hi, my name is such-and-such and I’m such-and-such years old’ thing. How original.

Hi, I’m Keltan James Micheals. I’m thirteen - fourteen on September 21st - years old, and I hate my life.

Okay, maybe that’s exaggerating. My life isn’t all that bad; it’s the people in my life that I could deal without. My annoying pureblood father, my social pureblood mother, their obnoxious pureblood friends, and my suppose-to-be girlfriend are the people I have to deal with all stinkin’ day long. My mother stays at home and teaches me ‘how to be a proper wizard’. My dad works at the ministry of magic, and I have no siblings. The way my parents see it, they don’t need another child. I’m here to carry on the family name, what else could they want?

Honestly, I wish I could get rid of my last name. My parents teach me that I'm better than everyone else and as surprising as this may seem; I do not agree. To me, it doesn’t matter what kind of stupid ancestors you have and whether your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather was a wizard.

What I also don’t like is that I’m not allowed to go to Hogwarts. Wanna know why? Not everyone’s a pureblood. UGH! My stupid prejudice father won't let me let me get a real education because not everyone’s a pureblood! How stupid is that? It bugs me.

And I’m not allowed out of this house alone, either. Because my parents fear that I might talk to a muggle. As if talking to a muggle will take away my magic or some stupid thing like that.

I had to sneak out my bedroom window, which is on the third floor of my stupid house, climb onto a willow tree, climb down the tree, and crawl through bushes to get this stupid book. All to do something my parents told me I can’t.

And man, was it worth it.

Hmm, it’s kinda more fun writing in here than I thought it would be. With no one half-way sane to talk to, I get pretty lonely....maybe writing in thins thing will help me keep my sanity. At least it’s better than talking to myself

Psh. that sounded pathetic.

I’m only writing in here because I’m breaking the rules. That’s my only motivation to write in this stupid muggle-paper-book-thingamajig.

Entry 2, August 11

YES! MY MOTHER IS LETTING ME GO TO HOGWARTS! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!?!?!?

Hmm, I can’t. I actually thought that I was dreaming, for a while. This whole situation had kind of supernatural feel to it. But then I started writing in this thing, and I realized that if I was dreaming, I wouldn’t be doing something as boring as this...so I guess I’m not dreaming.

Alright, the story.

I had walked downstairs and into the kitchen, right after I wrote in this thing for the first time. Mother was supervising our house-elf while she cooked dinner.

“Master Keltan,” our house-elf, Ginly, greeted when I walked in. I waved half-heartedly and sat down at the table across from mother. She clucked her tongue in a sound almost like disapproval and turned to me.

“I talked to your father,” she started. I switched my brain to pretend-to-listen-and-actually-care mode and rested my elbows on the table...something that shoulder have automatically earned me a very strict and annoying lecture about proper etiquette.

“I talked to your father,” mother repeated, obviously wanted so much to yell at me to remove my arms for the dining table this instant, and continued, “he agrees with me that you’ve been home schooled long enough. We’re going to allow you to go to Hogwarts school next year.”

I gaped at her.

Hogwarts? I can go to Hogwarts?

I immediately switched my brain to actually-listen-because-this-might-be-a-really-good-thing-for-you mode, a mode I didn’t use very often.

“You’re letting me go to Hogwarts?” I asked, not daring to believe that she was telling the truth. This was obviously a sick joke, and I didn’t find it funny at all.

Mother paused. “Yes, Keltan. Your father and I both think that I’ve taught you enough to keep you normal for at least one year. We’re not making any promises about years after that. But yes, you may go to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry for your third year of schooling.”

Aha! I knew there was a punch-line!

“One year? And what if that one year doesn’t work out?”

"Then you come back and we carry on your schooling here.”

“Until I’m seventeen.” I reminded her. “Then I’m a legal adult and I can educate myself wherever I please.”

“I suppose you’re right about that.” she agreed quietly.

“Well, thank you...” I said, frowning slightly. I felt like she was kidding me...like I did something wrong - and I’m not talking about keeping the notebook, because mother doesn’t even know about that, so there’s no way I’d be in trouble for it - and she was building up my hopes just to take back her offer as soon as I actually started to believe her.

I wouldn’t put that past my mother.

“You’re welcome.” she responded. A faint trace of happiness was creeping onto her face. Well, if she was planning on taking back her offer, she wasn’t doing it yet.

“Well, I have a letter from Hogwarts...it has a list of school things you’ll need. You can go to Diagon Alley...tomorrow, I guess, it’s as good as any other day. But you need to eat and get to bed. I won’t be here in the morning and you’ll need to leave early.”

So I ate the dinner Ginly cooked and walked dazedly up to my bedroom. Now I’m here writing in you

NO WAY! There is no way in the whole freakin’ wizarding world that I just addressed this stupid, inanimate object as ‘you’. Ugh. I’m turning into a sissy.

Okay...

Anyway....

So I’m going to Diagon Alley tomorrow. That’s nothing typically exciting, except that I’m going to get books for the best magic school in the world, and I’m going there without parental supervision. Any normal almost-fourteen year old would be excited about that, right?

Well, it doesn’t matter to me. I gotta get to bed.

Entry 3, August 13

So there was this girl...

And so begins the longest, most boring monologue in the history of muggle-paper-book-thingamajigs. Ready? Well it doesn’t matter. ‘Cause I’m writing it down anyway.

Okay, well, as I have said, I went to Diagon Alley today. It was....well, really fun. But there was a downside. Okay, maybe not a down downside, if you know what I mean, but there was a problem.

There was a girl, see. Jennumara Blood is her name. Jennumara Abigail Blood, apparently. But just call her Jenn. Or I call her Fwig, just not to her face. Freaky Weird Insane Girl...

But the problem with this girl is the fact that she’s ...well, really, really pretty. And nice. And funny. And sarcastic. And really, really pretty. And a spaz. And just all around really, really perfect.

‘What could possibly be wrong then?’ this muggle-paper-book-thingamajig might ask. Well, the problem, muggle-paper-book-thingamajig, is that I am not allowed to like any girl that my parents don’t set me up with. Which means that I am stuck with Deliliah Lucas. And trust me, nobody wanted to be stuck with Deliliah Lucas.

‘So why don’t you just disobey your parents?’ this muggle-paper-book-thingamajig might ask. Well, because I’m SCARED, muggle-paper-book-thingamajig. And I hate to admit it, but I am.

Girls are scary. All of them. Every single one of them. And, muggle-paper-book-thingamajig, Jenn is the scariest of all, because I already know that I like her. A lot. A lot a lot.

...

Yeah, I’m done writing about her. But I did warn that this was the longest, most boring monologue in the history of muggle-paper-book-thingamajigs.

So...whatever.

Oh, but I have something else to add, on a slightly scary note. I had ice cream - with three girls. Fwig, of course, and Rachel and Livvy Zhang. They were actually really nice, and weren’t scary - not really. All the girls are in Ravenclaw...a house that I think I wouldn’t mind being in. I also got a glimpse of one of the Hufflepuff prefects, and the Ravenclaw Quidditch Captain...and Rachel is one of the Ravenclaw prefects. Maybe it’s a good thing that I’m becoming ...friends? With her.

...well, maybe not.

Alrighty, Entry four! Now...I'm a bit behind, this happened the night of the day he went to Diagon Alley

Entry 4, August 16

I’ve done it. I have gone and made a complete fool of myself. Forget my gentlemanly ways, I blew it in front of a girl.

Because of a girl. And that makes it worse. Yes, the girl I blew it in front of was Deliliah, and the girl that’s to blame is Jenn.

“Good afternoon, Deliliah,” I greeted as I opened the front door for the Lucas family. My mother and father were in the dining room, making sure everything was absolutely perfect for our guests tonight. I bowed at the waist and let the family in, trying to ignore the weird feeling in my stomach as I saw Deliliah’s bright pink stiletto shoes. Bleh.

“Good afternoon, Kelly,” Deliliah chirped. I kept my eyes off her and held my arm out, inviting Deliliah, her mother, and her father into the house. It took all of my self-control not to yell at her for calling me Kelly. What a stupid name. It sounded like a girl’s name, and Deliliah’s horribly nasally voice made it sound worse.

I led the way into the dining room and pulled the chair out for Deliliah. I sat down next to her, much to my disappointment. (Whenever there’s a young girl over for dinner, I’m plopped right beside her. No matter who it is. But whenever Deliliah’s here, we get the whole side of the table to ourselves. Whoo hoo.)

So dinner was served, and dinner was eaten. Hours after we ate, we were all sitting in the den. I was reading a school book, and Deliliah was trying to get all the attention on her, like always. Finally feeling fed up with her being so loud, I stood up, dropped my book, and invited her up to my room. She, of course, agreed and followed me up the three flights of stairs. I offered her a seat on my bed and settled into the chair at my desk.

So we talked, and it was still all I could do not to yell at her. She kept calling me Kelly, and her voice had hit my last nerve.

“So, I told her, I said, ‘Look, Tammy, I can’t help it. Guys love me, and I’m just really pretty.’ and do you know what she did? She yelled at me. She told me that I have a big head, and that I need to-”

“Jenn! Please!”

Yeah. That’s when it happened. I meant to say Deliliah, but no. I go and say Jenn. Totally and completely embarrassing. All I wanted was to get her to stop talking. But did I have to say a name?

So, to make a long story short, the rest of the night was horrible. Deliliah freaked out and stomped on my foot with her stupid stiletto heel, rushed downstairs, cried to her mother and father, and then they left. But not before her mother and father yelled at me. Then they left and my parents yelled at me. My dad because he said that I interrupted good social time, my mother because she said it was unbelievably ungentlemanly of me to call Deliliah by the wrong name and not apologize.

But guess what? Nobody asked who Jenn was. That is a good thing. A very good thing. So for now, I’m still not in trouble and I’m in the clear for Hogwarts. And I probably won’t have to deal with Deliliah for quite some time. Although...I’m not allowed out of the house for a long time...

Well, I'm Deliliah free for a while, at least. Finally, something good came from my parents' social lives.

Entry 5, August 17

Mwahaha. I snuck out again. My parents won’t be happy at all, but I couldn’t spend the whole day locked up. No way, no how.

So, I went to Hogsmeade. After using Floo Powder (I snuck into a random muggle shop, thankfully I thought to take Floo Powder with me before I left the house...) I ended up in the Leaky Cauldron. I don’t know why exactly I came to Diagon Alley, but...well honestly, I think I just had fun yesterday.

So, after wandering the streets for a while, I started talking to - shocker - a girl. Apparently, it was her birthday, and although I had just met her fourteen seconds ago, I was invited. So, of course, I went. It was the polite thing to do, right? Yes, it was.

The party was...pink. Very pink. Which, thanks to last night, was not a good thing for me. But at least no one - that I saw - had pink heels. That would’ve been baaaaaaad. Very, very bad indeed.

I didn’t really do anything at the party, by the way. Gave Cela (that’s the birthday girl’s name) her gift, which was just money, considering I had no clue what she wanted. But her real friends gave her a lot of cool things, and I kinda felt bad. But Cela seemed happy...she said it was enough to play Knucklebones with...something I have no clue what she’s talking about.

I saw Rachel and Livvy there. And I met some kid named Barry. But that’s about it. Um, had ice cream...that was good. And saw some kid - Plymm, I think his name was, I’m not sure - make a fool of himself, but I didn’t stick around too long to see why exactly that was.

That was pretty much all that happened today. Now I’ve got to wait for the train...which sucks, because I really don’t want to wait. But, at least I’m still going, right? That’s what I need to look forward to.

Entry 6 - November 16

I know I haven’t written in forever...but I have NEWS, muggle-paper-book-thingamajig. BIG news.

I, Keltan J, Micheals, have a girlfriend. As in - girlfriend.

That’s something I didn’t tink I’d ever be able to say (or write down, whatever) and still have a smile on my face. Crazy, I know. It kinda happened in a weird way, though, so in my defense - I really don’t know how it happened and how I got into this situation.

Jennumara Abigail Blood is my girlfriend.

If this muggle-paper-book-thingamajig had a brain, I’m sure it would be wondering how this whole thing happened. It would probably be thinking ‘you have to know you’re getting a girlfriend, right? No sane person wouldn’t realize what was happening before it happened.’ well, that’s not the case. I had no clue what was going on, and all the sudden Jenn was my girlfriend.

Well, it all started out in the bamboo forest. Me and Fwig were talking. We got into something, and we both stopped talking. So we were both waiting for the other person to say something, and I got up and left. Big no no.

Jenn followed me up to the Ravvie CR, and started yelling at me for leaving her. We got into a yelling match, and whaddyaknow, I yelled to her and anyone else listening that I liked her. Well, she got this weird look on her face, asked me “really?” and then KISSED ME! ON THE LIPS! RIGHT THERE! In. Front. Of. Everyone.

Well, that’s the story. I don’t even know why I wrote it down, but I did.

...OH! And weird stuff is happening at hogwarts - I mean, besides my own personal crazy-weird life. The castle is like, flooding. Becoming a big swimming pool, and no one knows why. The HuffiePuffies are staying in the Ravenclaw common room, and the Slytherins are in with the Gryffindors.

Just thought that was worth mentioning.

Entry 7, November 28

I don’t even know where to start, muggle-paper-book-thingamajig. I...just don’t know. I kinda feel like my life’s been turned around 180 degrees since the last time I wrote. And it all happened in a day, too. Not gradually over a couple days...but, in all reality, it all probably happened in about an hour and a half - maybe less.

Why don’t I just write it all down?

First off, it started with the brilliant idea I had to take a walk down by the lake. When I got there, I saw Jenn (my girlfriend Jenn, of course) near the lake shore talking with Jesse HighlessHighmore, sorry, talking. Now, I was going to leave them alone and let them talk, because Jenn had every right to talk to anyone she wanted, even if it was a guy. But I couldn’t help it - I kept looking over at them. And that was the whole reason I’m writing in here; I looked over, and Jenn was leaning in to kiss him.

That was just the beginning. I figured she had the right to do that, too. But then I saw him kiss her back. That’s what made me mad. So, without thinking about anything except how mad I was at the Gryffindor, I went right over to him, pulled him away from Jenn...

...and punched him in the jaw. But noooo, I think I did more damage to myself then I did to his jaw. (I tucked my dumb thumb inside my fist) My head was so jumbled up that I didn’t even remember how to punch someone. May sound pathetic - but frankly, I don’t care.

Well, he punched me in the stomach, I punched him (with my left hand, the right way, this time), and then he whacked (and that’s an understatement) me in the nose .Jenn got sick from the blood coming from my nose and Jesse’s hand, and she threw up. A lot.

So she was the reason why I went to the Hospital wing. I hardly thought about my aching hand and nose as I carried her up the three flights of stairs to the hospital. When we got there, we had to wait a minute for Nurse Avalon to not be busy. When she got around to checking us out, Jenn got away with drinking a glass of tea.

And, I must say, that Nurse is smart! She like...reads minds, I think. She’s got to. Because even before Jesse said anything about what happened, she knew that I’d punched someone. And maybe that was just because of my hand, maybe not. But she’s smart.

Anyway, I ended up with two dislocated fingers and a broken nose - but I’d already fixed that into place, because I don’t want a crooked nose. Jesse ended up with a dislocated shoulder, and a swollen jaw.

Yeah. Then we had to apologize to each other. How was I suppose to do that? Sure, I was sorry that I’d actually hurt him, but I wasn’t sorry...ugh. This all confuses me. I don’t know how you can feel two completely opposite emotions toward the same person at the same time. Okay, the best the I can explain it is that I’m glad I punched him, but I’m sorry that I actually hurt him.

Well, anyway, I was sent away from the hospital wing after I apologized and got ice for my hand. Jenn tried to walk with me...but I walked away. I know it’s not he nice thing to do, but the things that I’m feeling toward Jenn are probably the worst part of this whole situation.

The big problem is: I can’t believe she kissed him. More than that, I can’t believe she was so glad to be my girlfriend (or at least she seemed like she was) but she obviously cares so much about Jesse. It seems to me that...well, maybe I just don’t get it. From what I know, Jesse’s been her best friend since they were kids. I never had a best friend, let alone a best friend of the opposite gender. So maybe it’s harder to deal with than I think, I don’t know.

Anyway, I’m confused. I still like Jenn a lot, I’m afraid. I wish things like liking people had an off switch - life would be so much easier. Because right now...I honestly don’t know if I want to like her. I don’t know if she wants to like me. And I don’t want to ask her. I don’t want to talk to her at all. Maybe that’s harsh, but she...she kissed someone else. I wouldn’t even be this mad if she’d broken up with me beforehand. But she’d gone and done it when (as far as I know) she was still my girlfriend. And that kinda....hurt.

So...I just went up to my dorm for the rest of the night. Plymouth was there, and Copernicus Kettleburn, too. Plymm offered to help me break into the Gryffindor Boy’s Dormitory so I could push Jesse’s bed around, like I helped him do to Cope’s bed when he was angry with him. But I didn’t do that, because I had escaped detention, and I didn’t want another chance to get into trouble. What we did do, though, was burn my bloody Hogwarts robes in a garbage bin. Which was strangely more fun that it sounds. Except now I have to go shopping, and I don’t want to.

Anyway, I’ve wasted enough paper with my mindless rambling. I’m going to go do something productive. Like sleep.

Oh, and I’m just gonna point out - I wrote this all with my left hand, and my handwriting is legible. Maybe I’m ambidextrous.

Oh my goodness gracious, it's been a long time So...to go along with that, the next post will go right along with the time line, which means that Kel wouldn't have written in his muggle-paper-book-thingamajig for a few months. Sorry about that - but I'll get something written soon - hopefully - and get all caught up!
