“Katie…no pressure, just remember what I told you.” Wood shouted.
Silence fills the stadium and Oliver’s words ring loud and clear in her mind as she bends low over the broom handle.
“Quidditch. More than a sport.
Fourteen warriors fighting for honour.
Six chasers dogging the Quaffle.
Four beaters attacking and protecting.
Two keepers on the defense.
Two seekers seeking the snitch.
One winner.”
Katie Bell watched her opponent Flint through narrowed eyes, he was gaining on her. “One winner…” she whispered with shut eyes.
The crowd soars, and Lee Jordan on the microphone, “Katie shoots. She scores. GRYFFINDOR WIN!” | |

Other boys would describe the depth of her blue eyes, or silkiness of her auburn hair. But not the one that mattered. He would notice other things about me, Katie swore to herself with a tiny smile.
Potions with Slytherin was a dead bore, but not today.
A folded bit of parchment appeared on top of Katie’s notes and she read it, blushing like a fool as she did.
“That scar near your eye…I long to trace it. The stitches under your lip…I long to kiss it. And that long scar up your arm…I did it.”
Katie blushed. Marcus grinned.

Detention again, whoopee!
The brown goop I was supposed to be mopping up spread all over the desk surface. “Great. Now I’ll never get to quidditch practice.”
Professor Snape was being incredibly unfair, it wasn’t even my fault this goop was all over the dungeon.
It was all that idiot, Higgs’ fault. If he had listened and put in the beetle eyes slowly the thing wouldn’t have exploded!
I reached down to pick up a cloth from the floor, but contact with the brown goop made my eyes sting. “Ouch.”
“You should wear your dragon-hide gloves, Bell.” Great, Flint’s here. | |

Oliver bit the end of his quill thoughtlessly as he watched Katie talking to Angelina across the common room.
“Bleh!” he muttered as he spit out some feathers from the quill.
Feminine laughter reached his ears and he dropped the writing instrument, finally calling upon his resolve to talk to the young, beautiful and talented Chaser.
His confidence faltered as he caught the tail-end of their conversation.
“Look at this note he sent me in Potions last week! Flint is so…intriguing.”
Angelina was looking up at him, waiting for him to say something, but he had already turned and left. | |

All around the compartment people were regaling each other with tales of their summer. Nothing much to hear, so Katie tuned out.
Munching on a pumpkin pasty, and sipping on a bottle of Pepsi she had gotten at Boots earlier, she watched the sheep.
Someone was giggling over a summer fling somewhere beside her and she rolled her eyes clearly at the cows that they were passing by.
Just as she was getting into the tale of the Ravenclaw and the summer love, a Ford Anglia flew past her window.
Out came pasty bits and soda, “What in Merlin’s hat?!” | |

Drabble #6 - Torch “Ouch, bleeding barnacles!” And a clattering sound. Katie spun around at the angry tirade and couldn’t help the snort of derision that escaped her nasal passage. The Slytherin troll was leaning on the stone walls behind her, cluthing a hand to his head while wincing in pain. The burned out torch on the floor beside him explained the clattering noise. She put two and two together and this time burst out in real laughter, “You really are uncoordinated on the ground, Flint.” His hand came down and she saw the red bump on his head “Kiss the pain away, Katie.”

Detention was getting sillier every year. But cleaning up Hogsmeade? If she had been doubtful of the rumours circulating about Pince’s sanity before, she was now so sure, she was practically deodarant.
She bent down and picked up the discarded items on the street in front of her.
Newspaper, empty tin, and so on.
Everytime she did so, she fervently wished that it was a portkey to take her to a luxury palace in France or an unplottable island in the Tropics.
Or maybe into the castle grounds, on the Quidditch Pitch and opposite Flint in a heated Quidditch match. | |

Katie burst into gales of laughter at her captain’s antics. Maybe he had taken one too many Bludgers to the head. They were all thinking it, but nobody said a word to him.
Fred Weasley was dancing behind Oliver, waving the captain’s wand over his head before slipping it into his pocket.
“What are you laughing at, Bell? I’ve lost my wand!”
This time Katie couldn’t keep the verbal diarrhea from coming out, “It is my humble opinion that you have lost more than that since you came to Hogwarts, Oliver.”

Half the heads in the library turned to glare at Katie, who merely stuck her tongue out at them before going down for another loud sneeze.
Madam Pince came over looking like a snakeless Medusa, ready to turn the sneezer into stone.
“I’m sorry, Madam Pince…but it’s just the dust or something.” She said hastily, not keen to land another week in detention.
It would have worked too, if she hadn’t let loose another ginormous sneeze. “Merlin! I swear my brain would have gone through my nose that time!”

Gryffindor girls had a tradition. They all agreed it was stupid, but it was still tradition. So every year, on the last night of term one girl would be frozen, and taken out to the grounds where she would then be left tied up in her pajamas, and unfrozen.
Unfortunately…this year was Katie’s turn.
“I really don’t see the purpose of this. Ouch, that’s a bit tight! Aren’t there werewolves here?”
For her troubles, the other girls merely snickered and left her for the night.

Katie feigned innocence and glanced at the vial Snape was holding out in front of her face. “I can’t imagine why you would find a bottle of potion funny, sir.”
His already thin lips pulled tighter in the corners, “10 points from Gryffindor and a detention with me, Miss Bell.”
Her jaw dropped in indignation and had just stood up to shout something incoherent at the Professor.

Katie snuck out to the courtyard with the morning edition of the Daily Prophet tucked under her arm. She sat on a bench alone and unfolded the newspaper while gingerly looking around to make sure nobody she knew was around.
Instead of turning to the back for the sports news like she did in the great hall every morning, she stopped at one page with a photograph of a very happy young couple, kissing each other.
Katie sighed wistfully, it was true. Her quidditch idol had gotten engaged.

The young Malfoy made a mistake of commenting “Uh oh. Looks like Marcus is in trooouuubleeee!”
It got him a faceful of Quaffle from his irate captain.
“What is the meaning of this, Wood?”
Oliver rammed into Flint’s chest, causing him to fall to the ground. “Leave Katie alone, or I’ll kill you.”

Katie stood at the buffet table, glaring at her partner for the Yule Ball and feeling a strong urge to tip the contents of the punch bowl over his head.
The boy was ogling a group of Beauxbatons and he had not looked at Katie once since they had met at the Entrance Hall. He didn’t even bother to wear proper dress robes for the event, in fact, Ron Weasley’s dress was in better condition that his!

Katie rolled her eyes at the misplaced concern that Alicia and Angelina were pouring on her. It’s not her fault the professors had no sense of humour, and it certainly wasn’t her fault that the puffskeins had gotten loose in the first year boys dormitory.
She choked back on a laugh as she recalled the way those boys had squealed and jumped onto their beds.
“I promise…I’ll be careful from now on. Don’t worry.”

Reminder : Kneazle - intelligent, cat-like creature can detect unsavory or suspicious persons very well and will react badly to them. However, if a kneazle takes a liking to a witch or wizard, it will make an excellent pet.
Drabble #16 - Kneazle The Magical Menagerie was quite empty today, Katie thought as she looked around. She spotted a large, furry orange feline lurking in a corner of the store. The creature looked interesting, her mother would surely adore it, but Katie herself had an aversion to animals with claws. “How much is that…erm…cat?” she asked the lady behind the counter. “Crookshanks? He’s part Kneazle.” Katie bent down to pet the creature’s head but was greeted by a hiss and a swipe of the claw. “Kneazles are excellent judges of character.” Marcus said, picking up the feline and stroked it behind the ears. | |

Katie skipped into the Great Hall after Quidditch Practice that day, despite the shortness in her breath, the bruised ribs, the aching thighs and the sharp pain in her shoulder blades. She was accustomed to them by now, anyway. Oliver was a slave driver, but at least he always let them leave in time for afternoon tea.
She remembered a time when he had not allowed them to leave until tea was over. He had gotten a Quaffle thrown at him from an irate second year Katie.

“So what did muggle children do when they play dueled?” Katie asked, eagerly leaning forward to hear Dean’s answer.
“Well…we had these toy guns, which are like metal … er … wands. And we used to point them at each other and… er … zap each other. And then pretend to die.” Dean told her, trying to make it sound as interesting as possible.
Katie’s eyes glazed over in boredom and she nodded, looking around the great hall at the late lunchers.

A loud, cracking sound was heard very suddenly in the ballroom and heads turned to see what had caused it. Marcus Flint, the Director of Flint Industries stood grinning down at his wife with a red cheek. Katherine Bell-Flint stood glaring angrily right back up at him. It was obvious to everyone that a lover’s tiff was taking place and conversation levels escalated immediately to cover up the momentary silence. “I’m telling you it is going to be a girl, Flint! Push it and I’ll do worse than slap you!” Marcus led his wife to the balcony and kissed her.

So maybe taking a nap in the middle of a quidditch match was not a very bright idea. But then again, there was no reason for that Slytherin brute – Higgs – to latch onto her neck and nearly pull her off her broom.
She blamed Wood for keeping them at practice all day that she needed to study at night. She blamed McGonogall for pouring homework on her when the finals were so close. She blamed the four founders for not giving them extra time to sleep nearing exams!
Most of all, she blamed Flint. He could have trained Higgs better. | |
