12 Days of Potter - "A Very Snape-y Christmas"

Christmas is fast approaching!!! Hard to believe, I know! Last year, SS had an event called the 12 Days of Potter in which the admins of the site gave out special graphics, sigantures, tags, poems, etc. to the members of SS! This year, the admins and mods have decided to let the fanclubs host the event! Go to this thread to read more about this year's 12 Days of Potter!

As you can see, the SSFC has been chosen to host "Day 1" (December 1 and 2), along with the SBFC. Odd combination, I know, but we can actually have fun with that! But in the mean time, let's brainstorm some ideas that the SSFC can do to make the holiday's a little brighter for the SS members (though I don't think Snape would like the holidays to be bright, but maybe that's just me!)

Rules for 12 Days of Potter
1. All SS rules apply, of course.
2. The ideas must be relevant to your club, or teams (if clubs are doing something together).

And I'm going to add two more rules:

3. Be as creative as possible!
4. Have fun!!!!!

From the chat thread, the following ideas have been generated:

1. Graphics with Snape quotes, either from the books or original ones (ones that say things we THINK he'd say, completely canon!Snape). If they're from the book, change them up a bit to gear them towards the holidays!

2. Confrontations between Snape and Santa and his elves.

The other clubs' ideas are really good, too! I was also thinking along the lines of drabbles/ficlets (a fanfic is a little too hard for the time we have) with a subject/theme chosen by the member who requests them. Or if we right them beforehand, a theme that we choose! And there's another idea I have, but I'm going to see what the other officers think of it before I post it here! I've sent PMs to the Presidents and sponsors of the SBFC and am waiting to see if they want to do anything together, and if so, what. I'll let you know what I hear!

So now, what about everyone else? Start thinking and post your ideas here! (Let's just not chat here, ok?) Thanks to everyone who has already contributed ideas! I know we're going to make Snape proud this Christmas!

Have you been in contact with the SBFC?

I think Jen suggested to have a contest, I personally like that idea, too, but I'm worried that two days for a contest are just not enough time. Any thoughts on this one?

Eh, I think it can be done. One day for the contest, one for the deciding of the winners. As long as the contest is something doable in such a short amount of time, I think it can be pulled off.

A contest might be possible. Like I've said, I've never done 12 Days of Potter, so I don't really know how things actually run during the event, but I've got an idea based on what I've been told as to what things will go like this year. But like you've brought up, the only thing that concerns me about a contest is that 2 days is a really short time for people. And a lot of people don't get on SS every day, so they might miss out on the contest all together. But if we can come up with an idea about a contest that is short enough to do in 2 days, I'm all up for it! I got a PM from Rhea this morning and she and the SBFC do want to do something with us, playing up Snape and Sirius' relationship. I love that idea, and a contest might be doable. I'll try to set up a meeting with her on MSN and we'll get some more ideas rolling!

Maybe we could somehow mix these things, in the siggys for example, if we are co-operating? Sirius could be Santa, he´s got the beard, you see

and the trio could be the elves ... I don´t know what the SBFC would think of this, though ...

*cough* I haven´t got your PM, Caitlin, even though there´s still room for one in my PM-box ... I don´t want have all the responsibility, but I sure want to tell my opinions, if there are any ...

The contest wouldn´t be bad either, and if I have understood right, we could run it for two days and make the decissions about the winners and such later ...

Hehe....I only sent the PM's to the council of the SBFC! I figured since we have a place already for the SSFC, we can discuss it in there! And we'd already expressed interest in doing something with them, so I just wanted to open the lines of communication with them!

And I do like the Sirius as Santa, trio as elves thing. What could Snape be, though? Hmmm....

And I was wondering if the contest could run for two days and winners be announced later. I'll mention it to Rhea!

Perhaps it could be an art contest? Maybe a depiction of a Very Merry Sirius/Severus Christmas? Either then strangling themselves in front of a fireplace or whatnot. Maybe make it comical or serious or whatever you. Perhaps most canon accurate? I'd love to see what some people would do in regards to putting those two in the same room at the holidays.

Either or could work. We could have the best in both categories, one for the drawing and one for the ficlet and give awards for each.

Snape would be ... well, Snape, of course

I guess either of them could be Santa, if we now are co-operating.

The contest could be creating siggys to some quotes we could suggest here beforehand. There ought to be both Severus and Sirius there, and they ought to be Chritmas themed. We might make the Severus quotes and SBFC would do the Sirius quotes.

I haven´t been spying on Sirius fanclub, though, so I have no idea what their plans are.

That's true. Otherwise they spend hours coming up with a decent quite and don't have enough time for the actual task. Should we each check one of the books for quotes we could use?

I´m not yet sure what direction Caitlin´s, Jen´s and Lissy´s thoughts will take. There seems to be other suggestions that are considered, too.

But I would think posting quote suggestions here wouldn´t be a waste of time, since they could be used otherwise around christmas. I had these two already:

"No Unforgivable Curses from you, Santa! You haven´t got the nerve or the ability -" and the thing about Santa´s elves being "insufferable know-it-alls".

The quotes, in my opinion, might as well be both ways, since too strict rules are not good in this case. We might lose some good ones by choosing only one way of making them.

That´s exactly what I think Nessie had in her mind. Quotes customized for Chrismas. And you were meaning we´d make up quotes Snape could´ve said? I was meaning both ways of making those would be alright.

Yeah, that's what I meant. So it's putting Christmas lights on pre-established quotes and creating quotes for canon!Snape to say? We should start coming up with some things now. That way we can chose maybe 10 and have those preset. It'll be 12 Days in no time, what with Thanksgiving next week.

That sounds like it could work out. Would those be signatures or avatars, or both? Obviously they'd need some kind of animation which is well beyond what I can do with them but I think they could be cute. Why not? It's something else to offer the people for Christmas. I think they'd enjoy it. But what would Sirius be in that respect? Black family reject?:

But these things have nothing to do with each other ... So those suggestions about who is who has nothing to do with that potion thingy, it was the idea what Nessie, Sissa and I had ...

Your suggestion of Snape being the grinch is marvellous, btw ... I'm not so familiar with these american fairy tales, but I've heard of him ....

the Grinch is green, so even the color fits. kinda.

But I think we should stick to the potions. the more I think about it, the more I like it.

I think it was supposed to be in conjunction with the Sirius Black Fan Club and I think we were supposed to be doing something similar but I believe all that fell through. So, all go for Snape mixing potions. Heehee.

What about expressions of what Snape or Black would do if they received presents from each other? It could be a ficlet, poetry, a picture, or a comic, but it has to portray both why they would give a present and what the other would do with it. Like Black grinning and looking at a watch in one frame and in the other is Snape behind some sort of blast barrier with a ward around the gift and his wand pointing at it for a short comic.

I do like the potions, though.

It sounds like a lot of fun.

Zellanna, I will suggest that to Rhea when I talk to her tonight! That's a funny but good idea! Rhea and I have been trying to come up with something for the SBFC and SSFC to do together, but so far haven't had much luck! If we can't come up with anything tonight, then I may just suggest to her that we do our own thing, and the SSFC can do the potion idea (since that seems to be accepted by everyone). The deadline to post what we're doing is the 25th, and I'll be out of town until the night of the 25th. But I'd like to know what we're doing before that, so we can start planning for it!!!

Okay, everyone. I never did get in touch with Rhea last night. Since I'm going to be out of town until Saturday night and we have to have our club's idea posted by noon on that day, I'm going to go ahead and make an executive decision and say that we're going to work on our own as a club and post that we're going to do the potions, since everyone seemed to like that. If anyone has a problem with that or would like to discuss this with me, just PM me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can! Hopefully I'll be able to steal someone's Internet while I'm away and don't have to be away from SS for that long! Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving (if you celebrate it!) and I'll talk to you all soon!!
