SSFC Discussion Topic #5: He didn´t die!

What if things would´ve gone a bit differently for our beloved Potions Master, and he would´ve survived.

What would have become of him? Where would he have been living? Would he still be a Professor at Hogwarts, or would he have found another job? What would his relations with Harry have been now that Harry knew everything? Would he ever have married?

All of these are excellent topics for speculation, don't you guys think? I will start.

If Snape had lived, I don't think he would have stayed on at Hogwarts. Too many things had happened in his life, and he would probably figure it was time to move on to somewhere else. Perhaps he would go to teach potions in some other country where the Hogwarts story wasn't as well known, after all he would want to be using his talents and helping others to learn, at least I honestly believe that.

I don't know that he and Harry would ever be really close. After all, there was still part of James Potter, who Severus hated, in him and not just Lily. Still, I think there would be a kind of love there on Severus' part, because Harry was the only thing left of her. But, he would never, ever let Harry know that, yet always be watching out for him.

Would he ever have married? I doubt it, though I couldn't rule it out entirely. Snape seems very much like the prototypical solitary man, but who knows? Perhaps in another setting he might have met up with the perfect woman for him and lived happily ever after.

After his short career as headmaster of Hogwarts he decides to leave that place and goes to the Hindu Kush, where he buys an abandoned Gobstone mine.
During the first years the mine yields poorly, but then the goblins discover a new layer.
Very soon, Slyprinstone Ltd. supplies apothecaries all over the world with the finest Gobestone powder.
The owner of the mine lives a solitary life, no one knows who he is.

Maybe he'd finally be given a Hero's title and respect. He'd retire from teaching, perhaps writing a book about his life, minus the heartache, Lily and anything else that was too painful (because he wouldn't share his pain, he'd endure that alone).

I love both of these theories! Truly, as much as I've imagine him with such characters as Hermione and Minerva and even Trelawney, I really can't see him settling down. But there is no reason he couldn't have lived a happy life, made a fortune or been recognized as a hero. Snape deserved a little happiness, he had experienced so much sadness in his life. I think he would love to be recognized as a hero, although he would never admit it. And, who would turn down a fortune (though he didn't want that to be known, either!) Very Snapelike.

Maybe he would've finally gotten that DADA permanently. He wouldn't have to be the potions master anymore. I think that Harry, Ron, Hermione, and him would've gotten along much better after that. They wouldn't have been trying to knock each other down all the time.

Well maybe he just left hogwarts and went on a travel around the world spreading out love..and then maybe he'd have been lily,albus and james's god father....

Maybe he moved to china and taught eastern kung-fu. I always thought that he was a kunf-fu man. And if he did do any style of kung-fu I think it would be tiger style.

Oh yeah Severus is the man.

Oh and what if he had the potions on hand to save himself? he did once quote in the first book "Put a stopper in death" what if he really did?. Plus What if after that he turned into his Cyote or Fox animagus and left.

I dont think he would have left Hogwarts at all, he had put many years into the school. And you know Professor Mcgonagall seemed to have a soft spot for him because she trusted Albus Dumbledore fully. She would have offered him a position at the school. I dont know if it would have been potions or DADA, he may not have wanted to teach DADA since Voldemort was now destroyed. After all he had killed most of those whom either Snape loved or trusted most. I do think he would have gotten into a fatherly relationship with Harry, because like himself Harry was not a follower and because Harry was all he had left of Lilly, the fact that Harry refused to be cruel will have touched Snape. If he would have ever married I am not sure, but if the right person came along and loved him so deeply and genuinely for who he really is, he might have gotten married. But definitely it would be a unique person who understood his undying love for Lilly and be able to accept this fact. He so deserves some happiness and someone who takes care of him. Even if he would not show it. I could also see him writing a book, definitely revamping the whole potions book.
