As he neared the end of her pathway, Adam thought he had heard something. Not something, but Lorelai. Calling his name. Turning slowly, Adam's face started to light up in a smile, but then he watched her closing her window, and then the curtains. He must've misheard, or heard the whisper of the wind, and mistaken it for her voice. Sighing again, he watched her window for a second longer, and then he turned back and carried on down the path.

Out of her gate, he sighed. He'd lost his cousin, one of his best mates, and he reeeaaalllly didn't want to have to lose Lorelai too. Sitting down on the low wall of her next door neighbour, he pullled his hands out of his pockets and sighed, resting his head in them. What in the name of Merlin was he going to do?

Lorelai pulled her cardigan around her tighter, and gave up watching as she finally lost sight of Adam as he turned out of her garden. Stupid badly positioned window. Hoisting herself back onto the windowshelf she opened the window, and clambered out. Deciding to sit on the roof, as she had done many-a-times, and just have some alone time.

Finally after minutes of sitting there silent, she caught sight of where he had actually sat, and decided to finally say what she had intended on saying, or asking. "Adam?"

Thinking about it from his position on the wall, Adam realised he wanted to be back at school. Where he wouldn't have to see Brooke or Nick if he didn't want too, 'cuz they were in a different house to him. But he'd still be able to see Lorelai. Because he would want too. He'd thought this summer would be good, wanted it to last. Now he longed for his seventh year, and the strenous work it would bring. Which would hopefully keep his mind off of the whole situation.

Hearing his name called behind him, Adam turned around, almost falling off the wall in the process. Regaining his balence, he looked around, seeing nothing. Then he remembered on of his first dueling strategies - No one ever looks up.

So up was where he look, and he scrambled to his feet on the wall. "Lorelai?" he said, almost in disbelief.

She looked down into her front garden for a moment, just to check that none of the housekeepers, or maids or her parents were out there. Thankfully, they weren't. She realised then, how much she was probably goign to hate being graduated. Because it was just stupid. And being out in the big world sucked. And she wasn't happy about it at all.

Thank merlin he was looking around at her. Thank MERLIN.

Lorelai looked down at him and nodded. Of course it was her. She wasn't a mirage or anything. "Adam? Tell me know. Tell me know that you wont leave me... Because I cannot lose you AND my best friend." But she was going to. Wasn't she?

Looking at Lorelai, Adam couldn't help but smile, sadly and softly to himself. She was so pretty, and she even kinda lightened the darkend clouds behind her. But he was sad now, because although he knew they really like each other now, soon she wouldn't. She'd could be taken away from him so easily, and he was sure it would happen. It'd just be his luck.

Bowing his head at her question, Ad thought. He knew one thing, and however much he wanted to answer her with 'Of course I won't leave you. Ever' - he knew he couldn't say that. "I can't promise anything," he managed, his head raising ever so slightly, so he could look at her through his fringe, but she couldn't see his face. "I might get a disease. A car could come up this road and knock me over. Someone could... will, manage to take you away from you," he trailed off, looking up at her fully this time. "But I will promise I won't try. To leave you, I mean. I will try not to, try to stay with you. I really like you Lor."

His answer was right.
It was perfectly right.
But she wasn't admitting it.
And she certainly wasn't admitting how much it hurt her, that he was right.
That it could happen.

Nodding, she pulled her gaze from him and looked down the street, her eyes passing each of their friends houses. It was stupid how she couldn't look at him, how she couldn't even answer him. Because she didn't have the guts. Didn't have an answer. It really was stupid.

After about three minutes of silence she did look down at him, and sigh. "What if... What if maybe... If I paid for the disease to go away... Or if I saw the car coming, and moved you out of the way. What if I stopped it all. What if we avoided all of it, would you leave me then?" She couldn't have that. No.

Adding in a whisper she sniffled, "I really like you too."

Adam looked down again when Lorelai didn't speak. He'd upset her, he knew it. But he'd spoken the truth. And it was the last part that scared him the most. He could pay for hospital treatment, he could jump out of a cars way. But he couldn't stop Lorelai from falling for someone else. He couldn't stop her from leaving him, couldn't stop anyone that tried to get her from him.

And it scared him because he didn't want to loose her.

"If you managed to stop the car, managed to cure a disease... then of course not. I'd never leave you," Adam said, looking back up slightly. "But somone eill try and take you away from me. And I'm scared they'll succeed..." he trailed off. Because she was wonderful, and beautiful. And Adam would never be the only guy for her. He knew it.

Pushing herself up from her place on the roof, Lori watched him for a brief moment, as she slid down the drainpipe; something she had done many-a-time. This time it just hurt, because she had no shoes on or anything. OUUUUUCH. Sniffle.

Leaning against the wall of her house, she continued to watch him as she replied. "And how could anyone take me away from you, if I wont let them? Because I wouldnt. I wouldn't let them Ad."

Watching Lori slide down the drainpipe, Adam was startled at first, his face horror stricken, until she landed safely. He had to admit he'd been scared. Scared she'd really hurt herself. And he saw her slight wince when she landed, and jumped over her wall, running towards her. "Are you okay?" he asked concernedly, coming to a stop slightly infront of her. She wasn't hurt, was she?

"Really?" he began. "But what if you don't know them yet... and it turns out you like them more than me. Then what would you do?" He didn't want to seem awkward, but he had to ask. She had to know the truth. "But..." he carried on. "On the basis that no one would take you away from me... then, no, of course I wouldn't leave you."

Lorelai looked a bit flabbergasted as he came running at her, and took his arm as he came to a stop. "I'm fine. Just never done that without no shoes before. My own fault really." She shrugged and let go of his arm, smiling softly at him, as she pulled her cardigan closer, pushing her hair back and ruffling the loose messy bun at the back of her head. All before settling her arms crossed across her chest.

"Really, really." She confirmed. "Oh come on, Adam! I really couldn't. I know that there isn't anyone I would rather spend my time with than you. I swear!"

"Didn't I tell you to wear shoes?" Adam said, the glint of a smile in his eyes as he thought of the day by the swimming pool. When he'd carried her. Everything had been fine then. Watching her fix her cardigan, and her hair he smiled properly. He didn't know why, it just made him smile, all the little Lorelai-like things she did.

"Me too," Adam said softly, before steeping forward and enfolding her in a hug. It was nice to hear it said, and she sounded so meaningful. But something niggled in the back of his mind. Doubts about the future.

Lorelai chuckled softly and nodded her head. "You didddd, buuuuut ... I kinda couldn't find no shoes when I was sitting in the windowsill, and my roof doesn't have any shoes. Not that I could find." She laughed lightly, and shoved her hands in the pockets of her cardigan.

She smiled as he hugged her, and removed her hands from her pockets and hugged him back. "Ad? If my parents come out-"

"Awww.. you cried," Vii giggled, snuggling up to Mattie. The movie had been okay. The fun part was that Mattie was there. And that the pizza was good.

She didn't exactly have anything else to do in mind, so she just asked him, "Would you rather.. know it all or have it all?" His answer would probably be interesting, because with Matt, you never knew.

Nick looked around for Brooke. He wanted to talk to her, to be with her.. but he couldn't find her. So much had happened since the beginning over summer. It was like everything changed, but so did Nick. He had seen the fear in Brooke's eyes.. it was something he couldn't forget.

He had to become a different person; a person that wouldn't scare her..

He had to laugh at that. Couldn't help it. "Oh well," he murmured, a gleam in his eyes. "Maybe we should just leave a pair of shoes in each place? And then you never have to be without a pair." Okay, so like that was ever gonna happen. But still - in Adam's mind, it was an ingenious idea.

Smiling again when she hugged him back, he paused for a moment, holding the hug, before letting her go. "Sorry," he murmured, looking towards her house. "I'll go, if you want..." he carried on, shoving his hands into his pockets.

Climbing out of bed, Brooke changed into her usual attire of jeans and a t-shirt, slipping into a pair of DC's before she left the house. She didn't pause to look for Adam, or to grab breakfast. Well, it'd be lunch now, she'd slept so late. But she didn't want to see her cousin, and left the house quickly, moving away in the opposite direction to Lorelai's house, and down the street. Just walking, and thinking.

About the night before. She didn't know what to do. She'd lost her best friend, her cousin, and the boy she liked probably wouldn't want to see her again. And although she felt a little selfish, she couldn't help but whine in her mind. Life wasn't fair.

But as she contemplated, she realised; no one had ever told her otherwise.

Mattie smiled down at Vii and kissed her forehead and then shook his head. "you're lying. I certainly didn't cry! I just got teary eyed. And it's your fault for picking a sad film!" silly Vii. He chuckec to himself as he closed his eyes and rested his head on hers.

"know it all or have it all? Er ..." this was hard. "I guess I would rather know it all, then be able to have it all from my earnings." that sounded plausible didn't it?

Lorelai laughed a little bit and shook her head. "I am nit leaving my shoes on the roof or anywhere other than my house or Broo- eh." she sighed as she remembered it all again. Her best friend. Nick. Mattie. Vii. Everything had all gone wrong abc they were probably all now split into the pairs they had been the previous night. And they were all probably thinking about the previous night. Not that they could change it now ...

As Lorelai almost said his cousins name, Adam's face fell. No laughter left there now, just confusion. That was the only feeling he had at the moment, and maybe a hint of regret. There wasn't really much room for anything else, and although he tried to smile, for Lori if not for anything else, it was too obviously forced. He couldn't help but think about the previous night, however much he didn't want to.

"Okay," Adam nodded, waiting for her to re-tie her bun before begining to walk up her path again, keeping as out of view of the windows as he could. "Where do you want to go?" he added, although he'd already started walking down the road. He knew where he wanted to go - back in time. To before last night. But he knew that was impossible.

"Right," Vienna laughed. Of course he had cried. There was no denying it. But then again, it was no use arguing with Mattie because he'd most likely get his way. She rest her head on his chest, then looked up at him. ”I love being with you,” she told him.

Nick glanced over his side and saw Brooke, looking nice as always. He gestured to her, wondering if she saw him, then went up to her himself. ”Hey,” he said softly, ”How are you?”

Because nothing mattered more to him than her.

Turning as she heard someone call her name, Brooke jumped backward. But it was only Nick, and although she knew she shouldn't be mad at him, his question made her scowl. "Do you think I'm alright? I ruined Viennas birthday party, and now you're the only one who's speaking to me," she glared.

"So yeah. On the planet of Mars, or whatever, I'm great!"

Sarcasm over used there. She hadn't meant to be meant to Nick, but being Brokke she couldn't take it back. Biting her lip, she felt her face flush. Today wasn't off to a great start.

Lorelai shrugged once, and looked back at house, and much to her dismay saw nothing. Noone watching out of the window, or one of the bloody housekeepers running to tell her parents that she had left. Obviously, it probably wouldn't work out well if someone had seen, but she was so fed up of having to obey rules, and act like a stupid ruddy twit. It wasn't fair.

Finally deciding to look back at Adam, she shrugged once more, and shoved her hands into her pockets. "Anywhere, somewhere that isn't my garden, or the path right next to my house. Somewhere that isn't this road?"

Mattie laughed lightly, and pulled his arms tighter around her, closing his eyes lightly. That was, until she spoke. "Y.. You what? Love spending time with me?" Well that was a corker. Not that he wasn't super dooperly amazing to spend time with. But SHE was saying it, that made it a whole lot important-er.

Having a sudden urge to take her hand, Adam fought it as he saw her shove them both into her pockets. Looking at her out of the corner of his eyes, he kept glancing back down at the pavement. Somewhere out of this street, this road seemed nice right now, somewhere out of this moment seemed even better. Not that he didn't like being with Lorelai. No, quite the contrary. He just hated the memory of the previous night.

One he was sure wouldn't leave him. "How about we go to the little ice cream place, 'round the corner?" he said, taking a glance back at Lori. "And forget about last night? For a while at least?"

Lorelai smiled up at him and nodded, as she walked beside him along the street. Forget about last night? Well much easier said than done. But she nodded at that comment aswell. It wasn't like she wanted to keep remembering it, but it wasn't like she wasn't not going to remember.

"Hard to forget...." She added, completely absentmindedly.

Turning the corner, Adam saw the line of shops in the near distance, only about ten or so metres away. He caught Lorelai's smile out of the corner of his eye, and although he tried to smile back, it must've come out half-heartedly. Deciding that no smile was probably a lot better than a half hearted one, he switched it off.

"I suppose it is," he sighed, putting one arm around her shoulders. Loosely, though. Just incase, if she didn't like it, she could shrug him off. "But I'm going to try. At least for now."
